- Deftones released a new album Diamond Eyes.to promote the new album Deftones decided to do a live concert streamed at ustream.com from at Trees Dallas Texas.Deftones were pioneer on this type of album promotion when they decided to do a weblive show for White Pony ten years ago.

I like it when he's off form, its makes the song alot rawer, it also shows he isn't a fake, its just natural and i respect him for it.
I can't sing along to this song because I naturally start to cry ..it has this beautiful sentiment ..a kind of frequency that my heart and mind clamps to. it hurts so good lol

i don't care of Chino was having a off day with his voice, they need to play this song more live, it's just that awesome!
Is it just me who things his vocals are absolutely great. Rarely do you hear any singer being studio perfect and he has a wide range of vocals to perform. I think his life performance is great!
He never cancelled shows over his voice unlike some singers!
well, to be honest, he doesn't really hit all the notes, but you know what? it doesn't really matter if they get the message sent. It's rock music, and rock and punk are not always all about hitting the right notes but to transmit a feeling. So i this aspect chino delivers, always...Still, imo...being a hardcore deftones fan, it would be really nice if he could hi the notes...
My first listen I used to not enjoy this live performance. But I've come to actually appreciate waaaay more because of how emotional it sounds compared to the original. The raw recording of Chino's voice fits the song better.

those are hard notes to hit during the chorus! i'm surprised he did it 95% accurately WHILE playing guitar! those backing vocals might have been what was throwing him off...
Yeah hes so talented, its sad to see that now his vocals are damaged... but they are still releasing a new album sometime this year which is pretty cool

My favorite Deftones song ever
I don't get people critisizing his voice on this video. So he can't hit the high note, who gives a fuck, the performance altogether is amazing, and his lower register is just as beautiful as it is on the record. Obviously a screaming vocalist is doing damage to their vocal chords which is why his voice won't be as capable as somebody who doesn't. He actually hits 98% of all the notes.
This is what screaming does to your vocal chords, that's all. Hitting high notes will be hard for him.

Vocal was fine. Very hard to sing softly, then yell, then scream, then softly, then yell, then falsetto. I mean, shit.

wtf? Are fans not allowed to criticze a band they like? I love Deftones and their energy live, but it's ridiculous to say "why should a band sound exactly like their record live?" or "Can you do it? No? stfu." I love their energy live, so I can disregard a few vocal issues. But if the band can't perform what they produce they shouldn't tour. The only person in the band who has issues is Chino, everyone else is flawless.
I hope Chino gets a handle on his voice, because he's an amazing singer.

I love Deftones and Chino...but let's drop that b*llsh*t about his voice being 'flawless' here or anything mindlessly defending it. I've seen where Chino is on point live and when he's just not, it DOES happen
This really bums me out. I went to Sacramento, their fucking HOME TOWN, and they played like 4 songs from the album and a bunch of old stuff...I wish I could have seen them do all of Diamond Eyes like this.

He hits the note once in this vid and i understand as a person who abused falsetto and is now recovering from vocal cord surgery I understand why he isn't hitting them but the prob I have with chino he relies to much on falsetto but it never sounds like he's doing in the studio recording... Still love the guy cus even though he is inconsistent live he still is a great song writter
it's in between falsetto and regular vocalizing whatever the word for that is...
he can do it better in other performances. but nothing wrong with falsetto man some people get older.. happens
he belts those notes in the studio but live he just uses falsetto cause its way less harmful night after night.

If a live act where the same as the CD why would someone wana see it? Chino has a nice voice and it should be able to do great things in a studio where he aint playing at the same time. Playing live its a whole diferent deal, he's not the singing animal we'd all want him to be but he's still composing, writing, playing and rocking songs like very few.

@kubstix So I checked out the video you recommended, and when chino opened his mouth, the noodles I was eating dropped from my mouth and back into my bowl out of awe. His vocals are perfect in his performance in that show, and whats more is the smile on his face as he's doing it.

@snupcho Good lord, Mudvayne was ruthless live. Chad could sing and scream all through out. But they went downhill for me after LD50. Kinda like Korn. I loved them back in the day, but when I listen to those old songs, I kinda wonder why I liked them so much. When I listen to Deftones, doesnt matter which album. Be it Adrenaline or White pony. I still LOVE their tracks, old and new.
@QOTSAPT Sorry to interrupt your discussion but regarding the bad nu metal vocalists - if we take American Head Charge (!!!), early Incubus, early Mudvayne hedP.E. and Slipknot for nu metal bands - all vocalists of those bands are badass. Though for me Chino is the best, because of his timeless charisma and style. Many times he's far from perfect live, but he can afford it :)

@StaulkHolm but this is live not for the audience but anyway live ive listen to some horrible vocals on various concerts where i thought i would prefer the cd version but on this track i prefer the live version hes not the best siinger but for sure improvement

he knows he cant really sing the really high notes so he trys to hit the next lowest note in whatever scale or mode the melody was written in, or he falsettos the note. hes likely not going to do this song live.
@snupcho what an examples sorry i disagree. slipknot vocalist is great agreed even early incubus i dont see it nu metal i was talking about the technic which isnt important on nu metal but live sometimes gives me headaches

Studio and live performance is a whole different thing, u got serveral takes for a song to record vocals and live you got to be on point, the thing is when you touring for several months your vocals gonna crack at some point. IMO he did a pretty good job of course here and there you can hear the mistakes but hey, who wants to be at a live show where the Band sounds exactly like on the record right?

Metallica proved that many, many, many years ago! Haha but honestly it's one thing to perform well, and it's another thing to perform well night after night. Plus, most people aren't one of the 3 Tenors IJS, we work with what we've got.
