- Jersh reacts to the song Around the Fur by Deftones.
*I'm deaf in my right ear which is why I'm not wearing headphones. I know, it's a bummer not to get the panning sounds. It's also been a bummer to only have one ear my whole life for lots of other reasons, like, playing telephone growing up, I was terrible at it. But, I'll be ok, and I'm getting both channels in the earbud, thanks for your concern :)

Chino Moreno has acknowledged that the album title Around the Fur sounds "sexual." As he said in a 1997 interview for Dutch television, "People have been asking me a lot about that, especially with the album cover." But, he continued, the actual meaning of the phrase had more to do with sonics than sex. "Our music," Moreno explained, "I picture it as being, you know, very ugly, [with] heavy chords. Everything's really abrasive. And at the same time it's really soothing. And I think I picture fur as being very glamorous and very beautiful. But around the inside it's skin. And it's ugly. So it's somewhat of a metaphor for the music and the way I feel sometimes about people being really pretty on the outside and ugly on the inside." from one of his interviews ✌️
MX is my favorite in Around The Fur. Headup is awesome too.
Deftones - Hole In The Earth
Few more good tracks from this record:
MX
Lhabia
Dai Da Flu
Headum
lotion
To Have And To Hold
Damone
I was seventeen when I discovered Deftones and, ofcourse, it was with "My Own Summer". Song hit me like a brick and Deftones became one of rare bands that I like from my high school days all the way to today. I can't wait to see your reaction to "Phantom Bride", it has a nice collaboration with Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains and a sweet little grunge tone to classical Deftones tone. Thank you for your reactions. Cheers.
I 100% am gonna have to recommend Damone, it's a hidden track at the end of Around the Fur album. That, MX, Lhabia and Mascara are the biggest highlights for me that you've yet to listen to from that album and they're all very great songs
Gotta co-sign that, people sleep on this song but It's one of my favorites from this era
MX next please🙏
As a guitarist, you may not give drummer Abe Cunningham his due. IMO he's one of the best in rock/metal history and makes the band tick at times. Points of this song would be an example.
i think i address the deftones drummer and my lack of discussing him in an upcoming video, you're not wrong i'm definitely trying to do better with that, thanks! :)
@@SuperJersh Didn't mean it as a criticism, just an observation one has preferences based on their own experiences and yours is as guitarist. Love the channel and Deftones' coverage!
Abe is actually my favorite musician in the band. His drumming is just so unique: dynamic, creative, passionate and super clean; with so much groove and energy. Definitely my favorite sound on every Deftones' song. 😉
Nothing to be said for the lyrics but Deftones has always had an unforgettable and signature sound.
Won't call myself a fan but whenever they drop an album I always give it a listen.
Katatonia - Dead Letters
This song isn't the first I heard from Deftones (that being 'Change'), but it got me to listen to more of them. And it wasn't actually because of Deftones themselves. A local band I was friends with would play this as a cover and really rocked the place with it. They were named PYLOT (Put Your Lips On This). I do miss those guys, they made some really interesting music but only ever made the one album.
Some tracks you still have to react to are
Hole in the Earth
Entombed
Headup
Leathers
Phantom Bride
Oh that drumming in the intro always gets me! 😍💕🔥This song is from 1997 😉 Around The Fur is awesome as an album 🖤
About the song: Chino said he got the idea for this song while looking at a fur coat in a store. It's actually half a metaphor, and half an example. On the outside it's beautiful and soft, but on the inside ("around the fur") it's the dried out skin of a dead animal. He's comparing the fur coat to vain people. Pretty and nice looking on the outside, but dead and ugly on the inside. 😉
I think Around the Fur is a reference to someone who'd wear it being pretty and narcissistic but shallow inside. Draws you in, seek their approval, then a push-pull of should you or shouldn't you, before you're out. Cool rhythm, and the change-ups makes the screaming work as opposed to if it was repetitive. Also reflects the allure to then being angry w/ the heartache caused.

Knewwwwwwwwwwww you'd dig this one.
That thumbnail tho 💀💀💀
More from the Adrenalin album please? Just a personal/nostalgic preference but this whole album is what Deftones is to me...
Never heard Deftones described as "rap rock" before. I mean that's the last thing I think of when I think of this band, but okay..
" I dont know what around the fur means..."
no one knows what it means its provocative, it gets the people going!
I'm giving nod to your blades of glory reference.
do Street Carp, Riviere, or Hole In The Earth. all badass songs.
More from the Adrenalin album please? Just personal/nostalgic preference but that whole album is Deftones to me...
Olly Hudson Lol every Deftones album is Deftones tho? He did say he prefers the newer material a lot more
Gee...I’m so glad there’s guys like yourself to keep me in check. Thanks.
Klone - The Drifter
A really good Deftones song is Swerve City. I really like it. Give it a good listen, you might really like it too. 😉👍🏼
👊
No sabía si poner like , lo que haría que ese número cambiara 111, no quería hacerlo , por eso sume dislike , ya que el 2 solo no me gustaba y le sume 1, el 3 es un numero a mi parecer más armónico...
It’s all about himself, it’s all going on in his own head. And use a dictionary.
Deftones - Hole In The Earth
