    Key Takeaways:
    1. Short-term use of prednisone can cause a range of side effects, including headaches, mood changes, moon face, hot flashes, heart rhythm changes, muscle wasting, increased risk of infections, glucose level changes, bone loss, and adrenal suppression.
    2. The definition of "short-term" prednisone use varies among studies, with some considering it to be seven days or less, while others define it as 21 days or less, 30 days or less, or even three months or less.
    3. Prednisone is often prescribed as an immunosuppressant for autoimmune diseases, but it can increase the risk of infections. Individuals who took prednisone had a higher risk of developing pneumonia again and other infections within 30 to 180 days.
    4. Short-term prednisone use is associated with a nearly five times greater risk of sepsis and a three times greater risk of blood clots, according to a large study of 300,000 individuals.
    5. Prednisone can cause bone loss, increase the risk of fractures, and suppress the adrenal system, leading to a decreased ability to handle stress. To manage the medication effectively, the author recommends downloading their Prednisone checklist.

I have laryngitis, not sure if it’s from viral or bacterial, and my doctor ordered one week of 20 mg methylprednisone. I just picked it up and after reading the insert, no freaking way. I have an active infection of some sort, why on earth would I want to lower my immune system right now? The US medical system is ridiculous.

So tricky! There’s a tiny chance it could help with the inflammation causing the laryngitis… but a much greater chance it will cause tons of side effects.

I did 7 days of decreasing doses of prednisone and before finishing I began to feel very weak in legs and arms. Blood work was fine. No blood sugar issues. Muscular symptoms continued and I was sent to hospital to have LP to rule out GBS. It was negative. Still feel symptoms. Do you have a video with more info about prednisone induced myopathy? Treatment?

I took prednisone for about a week after issues with my asthma and I had significantly more energy, I wasn’t tired, I was able to get a lot done, less irritable, and more motivated- it was the best I’ve ever felt (way more effective that my antidepressant). I typically struggle with depression- is it just random to have this kind of side effect? Or could this mean my body is not doing something it should and prednisone was temporarily filling that?

I took prednisone for a long time. And the last time it was six months at 20 mg. I have been without him for three weeks. What should I expect? How soon does the body eliminate prednisone? Thank you so much !

I just finished a 40 mg taper for 12 days. Hearing these things makes me wonder how do you tell the difference between sepsis symptoms and symptoms of coming off prednisone? I was given the drug for Bell’s palsy and am now concerned I will get infection of some kind. I’m extremely fatigued weak and dizzy a full day after stopping. And my heart rate is not elevated but it pounds.

Definitely go to the doctor if you’re having any symptoms like that.

@@PrednisonePharmacist I did. No one will say that steroids will produce such symptoms. So I’m back in the dark. Don’t even know if I needed to take them in the first place.
