  • I have had a major infestation of tree saplings in my lawn this spring. I have never experienced anything like this in the lawn. Just as I stated in my last video, "one thing consistent about maintaining your lawn is change". In this video, I will discuss how I eliminated these tree saplings and it would also work for other wood type of weeds. Hope you enjoy the video!!!

    I have a customer with a huge maple seedling problem. I wanted to to try triclopyr on a small scale to see if it would work. I applied Weed B Gon Chickweed, Clover & Oxalis Killer which includes triclopyr. I mowed the lawn four days later and saw no effect, but when I came back yesterday, eleven days after application, I saw mass die off of the seedlings. The ortho product in the hose end sprayer bottle would be good for a small area where you do not want to mix your own. I may look into crossbow herbicide, which blends triclopy and 2,4 D. That probably kills everything bad including dandelions, plantain, wild violet, creeping charlie and woody plant seedlings!

      Yeah the label says you can roll it with 2-4-d. That's probably a deadly combination for weeds

    I so appreciated the apocalyptic tone in the beginning 😂 that's how I feel looking at my yard--just moved into this new house and there are a variety of woody weeds *everywhere* through what would otherwise be really nice grass. I'll have to figure out what grass it is and then hopefully be able to take care of it. Thanks for the video!

      Glad you enjoyed it. Identify your grass type and get it taken care of this spring before they mature which makes them harder to eliminate.

    Legally any branches that hang over to your property you can cut, I would suggest talking to you neighbor and asking if he minds if you trim it back a few first as most neighbors will be alright with that but you always have the nuclear option of cutting what hangs on your side. Tripclopry is likely your best bet tho

      Yep, you are right but the there are 2 of them and the 2nd one is easily 40-50' tall. The seeds will still end up falling across the fence. At least, I know I have a solution for them next year.

    Enjoyed the video and I'm hoping I can do that same treatment for my sucker issue as I have too many to dig up but I don't want to kill the lawn grasses either. Do you know if that this way will kill suckers off of crab apple trees we took out of our lawn? We have a million suckers coming up from the old tree roots. I have purchased Crossbow herbicide so not sure if that will kill the grass or not. It's 34% 2-4 D , 16% triclopyr BEE so still trying to find out. THANKS

    • @ElevatedLawnscapes
      @ElevatedLawnscapes  Місяць тому

      If you have a cool season lawn 2-4D and triclopyr are safe to use without damage to the lawn when applied correctly. I am not confident that it eliminate suckers because those are from a much larger root system that Im not sure triclopyr has enough power to eliminate.

    If you were moving into a new house and wanted to do a full renovation to establish you own practices so you’re able to identify issues whether human error or not what grass type would you use? Also would having two separate types of grass in front and backyard be too much work?

    • @ElevatedLawnscapes
      @ElevatedLawnscapes  Рік тому +1

      The grass type would depend on where I am located. I would pick a grass type that was suitable for my location and environmental conditions.
      I don't think managing 2 different types would be too difficult if you have the time and can have duplicate equipment....like 2 sprayers. I would not use the same sprayer for products for warm season and cool season grass types.

    Question…the trees that are causing the saplings in my yard are next to my grass. I went ahead and cleared out the area down to dirt and was wondering if I sprayed it with the herbiside….1) would it hard the large trees in my yard, 2) would it be smart to spray it before I lay sod?

    • @ElevatedLawnscapes
      @ElevatedLawnscapes  2 роки тому

      If you have cleared out the saplings i do not see a need for you to spray a herbicide. The herbicide needs to come in contact with the saplings to be effective.

    Just watched your video and hoping this may work for the problem I have. We had a black locust tree that was cut down last year and this year we noticed a multitude of saplings starting to grow everywhere...in our lawn, garden beds and it has spread around our house. Is this Triclopyr available in Canada? If not, what would you suggest we try...we are desperate and the situation is not good.

    • @ElevatedLawnscapes
      @ElevatedLawnscapes  2 роки тому

      I am not familiar with the laws in Canada but I know that many herbicides are restricted there. I have experience with Triclopyr and it works well on saplings and woody plants. My apologies but i do not have another suggestion at this time for you to try if Triclopyr is not available. If do find or hear of another option I will let you know. Thanks for watching.
