Back when her first album came out, she was performing at a small club in Minneapolis and I decided to go check her out. I didn't consider myself a fan, I didn't own her album, but I thought the songs i heard on the radio were fine. I really liked her live and after each song the way she said (almost yodeled) thank you in her accent was just great. I left the concert with her cd.
I love dido because it reminds me of my childhood before my parents separated. Its so far away from the stuff i usually listen to, but to me dido is just straight up comfort music.
Probably my favorite pop (ish) artist. She's not reliant on manufactured songs or some sort of hypersexualized image. Just a beautiful voice, good songwriting and great fun liveshows with a talented group of musicians.
It’s worth mentioning that Dido has always put together brilliant touring bands. Her long time percussionist Jody Linscott (an American living in London) has one of the most impressive resume’s in rock and pop. Also of note is her use of electronica synths etc combined with standard bass, guitar, drums, percussion. Her sound is very organic.
Her voice and this song absolutely moves me. I get a lump in my throat, tears welling up in my eyes, and chills all at once. Beautiful angelic voice and it carries lots of emotion. ❤❤❤
Thank you for your explanation. For a long time, I wonder why her voice is breathy but also consonant like that. I can't find the similarities with legend Dolores O'Riordan in Cranberries either, Wow, now I am clear.
That’s quite a leap. Dido was born and lived her entire life in the London England area and left home at around thirteen. There’s no discernible Irish accent in her speaking or singing voice. No reason for one. The comparison with Delores doesn’t work. O’Riordan has a very pronounced Celtic accent. Dido is Kensington all the way.
I normally don't like breathy singers (e.g., Amy Grant) but Dido feels natural doing it and I love her tone. She sounds so beautiful live, I had no idea!
Ah my teenage days. She also has such a vast repertoire and I love that early 2000’s mix of electronics + real instruments. Her live band was so good. It’s sad that style got out of fashion.
As an American, my first introduction to Dido was when I heard the theme to the TV show, 'Roswell', from back in 1999, "Here With Me". I loved the song so I watched the show and I loved the show as well. But, my favorite part, being a musician and singer myself in my younger days, was that theme song. I just couldn't get enough of it. I'm 68 years old now but I still, all these years later, love to hear the song "Here With Me" by Dido. It's my favorite by her and this song, "White Flag" is my next favorite. Great job young lady and keep doing what you're doing. I really enjoy hearing what you have to say and listening to some good music as well.
Since she was part of Faithless, then Stan with Eminem, which kinda made her shine again, and now at her almost 42... Her voice and talent have aged so damn well. And her name Dido, is dramatic as well.
Not only was her brother in Faithless, she also sang backing on some of their songs. Dido once said that she could sing anything you asked as long as you wanted it in B flat :)
Love listening to Dido. All her lives at Brixton are great. Here With Me is one of my favs. Funny that she also has a song called Christmas Day if you haven't heard it.
Her tone reminds me a bit of Dolores O'Riordan. Florian is definitely a German male name, there's a lot of Florian in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. One is married to my cousin.

Love the song in the whole presentation I would love to see you Beth record some original like this or perhaps like Dolores from The Cranberries!! With your looks charisma and vocal ability u would make such an amazing artist! please please please!!
I'd love to hear you react to Fiona Apple with Elvis Costello-I Want You. A powerful performance. The good recording is on the "Fiona Apple Rocks" UA-cam channel.
This was fun! Can you do Dido, See the Sun (last song), Live at Brixton Academy? There was a BIG note at the end of that one! It's spectacular. She's perfection.
Your really should take a look at Heather Nova, she is an outstandig singer and live always a step up from the recorded sessions. Check her Wonderlust live album version of "Island" ;-) (unfortunatly the youtube-videos are mostly crap recordings)
Come on down to Australia. The singers over the years we have become legends. Mu siggestions are John Farnham And Jimmy Barnes performong When Something is Wrong with Baby ftom
A few things to correct you on - Paddington Bear was from Darkest Peru not Britain (although the Browns did adopt him), and Sade is pronounced like Shah-day not Sade (can't believe you didn't know this)!!!
I think she also plays Stan's girlfriend in the video. It's a great example of sampling done right. Lots of people discovered Dido because of it and the way it was used gave it a completely different feeling than the original just because of musical context even though it was a pretty long continuous sample
This is for @Beth Roars: ua-cam.com/video/jqJEeD6qCgg/v-deo.html Dido 2019 sings White Flag, great quality and her voice is better? or different? fuller? deepr? I don't know, I'm not an expert but I love it very much. Just for fun.
Never heard of her. The funny thing is I read the title as Vocal coach reacts to DIO. HAHA Yes quite a big difference. She is good. I like your videos a lot. Speaking of women singers that use their accent to brand their art, Sia. I see other singers try to sing her songs and it just can't be the same.
I say her tone is like she was yawning, but it works. Her talking voince has more top end, like most women, but her singing is more opaque. I have no idea how to imitate it.
to me it sounds like she changes from chest to head voice because she would not be able to reach the tone with her regular voice, which sounds forced somehow. Don't get me wrong I LOVE Dido,
I always thought Dido’s songs always sounded similar to each other in terms of style and tone. It caused her repertoire to become repetitive and predictable. Don’t get me wrong, they were all good songs btw, not criticising the quality.
Don't be embarrassed of your "english" accent. I just watched Tom Scotts video - Nobody should ever be embarrassed after that pubescent choirboy + 70 year old granny rendition of Oh Holy Night. lol
I always thought she does the head voice simply because she can’t belt high notes, no? She does it all the time. I love the texture of her voice but her range is pretty limited, hence the falsettos.

I met Dido before she was famous and she couldn’t have been nicer. I swear she’s a angel
If angels fo exist, I'll bet you she IS one.
Welll here's a throwback! I loved Dido back in the day. She's very underrated.
This Song Was Released July 7th 2003 In The United States. September 1st 2003 In The United Kingdom.

Jodie LS toured with David Gilmour as well as literally, everyone else.
@@norwegianzound yes she has. A favorite of Pete Townshend as well. She gets legend status in percussion! lol
Her voice and this song absolutely moves me. I get a lump in my throat, tears welling up in my eyes, and chills all at once. Beautiful angelic voice and it carries lots of emotion. ❤❤❤
Didos father was Irish, so you can hear the Irish influence in her voice, she has a similar voice and style to Dolores O'Riordan from the cranberries
Yup, and Sinéad O'Connor as well!
Thank you for your explanation. For a long time, I wonder why her voice is breathy but also consonant like that. I can't find the similarities with legend Dolores O'Riordan in Cranberries either, Wow, now I am clear.
Exactly dolores O'Riordan,
she sang in that style

@wutangman8248 this makes no sense.
one of the best women voices ever

Such a pleasure to see you enjoying Didos music and to listen to your profound knowledge on voices! 🧡❤
SO GLAD you did Dido! More Dido and Jewel PLEASE
Best singer for all times , singer from another planet
I just stop by now and then to hear Beth's voice and accent. Just audibly pleasing. 🤘🙂

Love her voice, is so unique!
One of my favorite songs of all time
Dido is one of my favorite UK female singers, something about her voice so soothing.
This song was everywhere in Italy back in the early 2000s since it was used in a popular TV commercial. Dido is a great singer
Since she was part of Faithless, then Stan with Eminem, which kinda made her shine again, and now at her almost 42... Her voice and talent have aged so damn well. And her name Dido, is dramatic as well.
She is 50 years old.

This song is so great. Thanks for the analysis. So interesting.
La dulce y cálida voz de Dido, se extraña mucho su música.
Her tone reminds me a bit of Dolores O'Riordan. Florian is definitely a German male name, there's a lot of Florian in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. One is married to my cousin.
She is London Irish , spent her childhood between London and her family in Ireland. Her uncle was the famous Irish politician Dessie O Malley.
I would be very happy listening to Didio read the phone book.
I love her!❤️
Very beautiful song. Loved it from the get-go. Interesting analysis. Happy New Year Beth.

This song reconnected my girlfriend and i again after an 8 month breakup and now she's my wife..
Sade is pronounced 'Shar-Day', btw.
Beth this concert was one of the best concerts i have seen, al be it on video, not just Dido who is brilliant but the instrumentation was magnificent.
Happy New Years! ROAR!
Hi Beth, I didn't realise how good Dido was until watching your video, thanks.
Beth IS the cutest!
Love the song in the whole presentation I would love to see you Beth record some original like this or perhaps like Dolores from The Cranberries!! With your looks charisma and vocal ability u would make such an amazing artist! please please please!!
She indeed has a beautiful voice.
as a black metal person i really enjoy her voice
A fan of Dido, she's so underrated even in her heyday.
I like the June 25th change. Again, great videos Roars!
I'd love to hear you react to Fiona Apple with Elvis Costello-I Want You. A powerful performance. The good recording is on the "Fiona Apple Rocks" UA-cam channel.
The most spectacular interpretation of the Christmas song "O Holy Night" Brazilian singer Gabriel Henrique.

I always loved her voice and when I just looked up her Wikipedia page, I found out her real last name is Armstrong....another reason to like her! 😆
love it 1st time i discover Dido like 22 years ago with Eminem , sorry for my poor english
Come on down to Australia. The singers over the years we have become legends. Mu siggestions are John Farnham And Jimmy Barnes performong When Something is Wrong with Baby ftom
Baby from a Hey Hey Its Saturday.
Beth Roar check out Judith Durham (Australian Seekers)
I always feel badly for Christmas babies! My great grandmother was a Christmas baby, she insisted that her gifts be wrapped in birthday paper!
Essa música é uma pérola do início ao final
Could you do one for “Roland Orzabal” from tears for fears (woman in chains live In California would be a good one )
Pretty,pretty please
That 6:31 -ish moment... We know sh *could* have belted. but did the late 90s flip, but how many people can belt but could never do the flip? (me)
A few things to correct you on - Paddington Bear was from Darkest Peru not Britain (although the Browns did adopt him), and Sade is pronounced like Shah-day not Sade (can't believe you didn't know this)!!!
She's a London Girl! She speaks Cockney dialect just like Adele used before! tis beautiful! xDD
Low key this was a soft and gentle roast 😂
thank you!
Me encanta la voz de Dido. Me encanta esa canción. Pero tú me encantas más Beth, estás hermosa, te mando un beso.
Greethings from Indonesia.🇮🇩
Finally!!!😻😻😻😻
"Missing" by Everything But The Girl please
Check out some parkway drive or born of Osiris please, thanks and luv ya beth
React to "Thank You" next time, it's another song of hers. That song was sampled in Eminem's "Stan".
I think she also plays Stan's girlfriend in the video. It's a great example of sampling done right. @@antivanti Yep!
Dido
A name given to the Phoenician Queen Elissar, which means sailors, and the Greeks called her this name because she was roaming the Mediterranean

Great vid as always, one point though.. I thought Paddington 🐻 was from Peru 🇵🇪
Roar 🎉
Just a FYI - singer SADE is pronounced Shaa - Day.
Paddington is not a British bear. He is from darkest Peru.
Dido is also even sexier now than she was back then. lol No wonder I love her voice. I'm a HUGE Cranberries fan.
We stan Dido's tone 😉
If love to see reactions to some other female artists. Particularly, Tori Amos, Lisa Loeb, Doro Pesch, and Ani Difranco.
Sade is pronounced Sha-day. (I suppose British people say Shar-day).
it would really be fascinating to see you react to Ronnie Drew of the Dubliners, he had a great voice, though not usual
What about some Tom Waits or this Cabaret English band named Tiger Lillies, his voice is unique and need to be praise

Wow..Seriously? You are young maybe..
@@khairulbasirrudin732 she wasn't that popular here in the US, mostly just the song in the video and her part in Eminems "Stan" song.

Better in person then the track
Did you mean Sade (S̶a̶a̶d̶, Sha-dey).
Hello 👋 ⭐⭐⭐👌👍
Sade is pronounced "Shar-Day".
Only if you are southern English.
I read it Dio 😂
My Biggest "Dream-Musician-Woman"....She Is Just a Dream, When She Came To México, She Got Nearly 10,000 Mexicans in love with her..
Dido would have been a great country singer if she was from the South in the USA.
Please react to Alanis Morissette
Is that really called yodeling?
Hi Beth, please react yo Cristian Castro SOLO song live at viña del mar. I'm from Juárez Chihuahua México.
I love how Dido sings.
to me it sounds like she changes from chest to head voice because she would not be able to reach the tone with her regular voice, which sounds forced somehow. Don't get me wrong I LOVE Dido,
😍
I didn't realize that was an effort of American accent haha
I always thought Dido’s songs always sounded similar to each other in terms of style and tone. It caused her repertoire to become repetitive and predictable. Don’t get me wrong, they were all good songs btw, not criticising the quality.
Yea she has a unique voice but she lacks things that other artists can do with their voice. I do love her voice sounds though.
Please, react to LiSa - Homura from The First Take video
One thing for sure, in June she's not celebrating her birth.
i like her ... a lot but her tonal quality lends an air of sadness to her overall performance
Solo Cristian Castro Viña del Mar
su voz es similar a shakira
Dolores did not yodel. That is offensive to the Irish.
Plzzz plz react to Arijit singh mast magan on Facebook live and namo namo shankara song on youtube
