Hey thanks for watching! If you enjoyed this episode, check out the entire series here: ua-cam.com/play/PLnSGJ0XeWUB-JP6qnIX7_QCkxcQjmzUvK.html and if you took something away from these, it would be amazing if you shared these to other artists, both aspiring and pros alike! Thanks!
i am a comic artist, currently working on a pay graphic novel and i put your videos as a company while i produce. I see myself reflected in you and i get inspiration too. Greetings from argentina. The World bicampeon.
Thank you Francis, I just watched this, and the penultimate video, on your channel, your experience shared in words accompanied by images and Music, made my mind less agitated, so that I can focus on my goals!
The class and sophistication of your videos is so far beyond the other comic artist UA-cam channels. I have no doubt they take far longer but they have completely been worth the wait.
Thanks, Isaac! It definitely takes a lot longer, and I find the more I learn about this process the longer it's taking! I'm hoping this series helps me with the entire video process.
These videos are so great. So well done it's pure fun watching it. And easy to take something out of it too. I'm stuck on my book for months now. Juggling Job, Family and trying to get this done is really challenging 😬 I'm trying to coem up with better systems all the time but it's like working 3 weeks on it to have a working schedule and then something comes up and blows it to pieces because i have to rearrange everything 😅
Hey thanks for sticking with me since then! It was a hard decision but I wanted to have more time to spend with the family since my kids are still pretty young.
@@FrancisManapulArt awesome! Very excited. Hope to show you my stuff for a review someday. I want to make comics so badly, but it's definitely hard. And with a chronically ill family, the climb is tougher as I can sacrifice less. A journey still worth taking I think. Thank you for your honesty and open door through the channel. Can't wait for next week!
Amazing work Francis, seriously! Networks and Streaming channels have entire crews that produce doc series that look and feel half as good and engaging. And you art... gorgeous! I first encountered your work in Witchblade, many moons ago. You were one of the first artists whose art inspired me to pay more attention to the names on the book. And finding out you were a fellow Canadian just solidified your position as one of my all time favorites... Though, lets be honest, the work itself holds your position firm all on it's own. Just set the bell to "All Notifications". Hate being late to the party...but I always show up. (Apologies for the novel of a comment 😉)
Hi! Thanks to share your journey it's very inspirational! I love your work on The Flash and your style is gorgeous :3 One find to motion on the video: it's hard to hear you with the music so loud, especially at the end. Would be nice to turn down the music and turn up you voice :) Have a great day
Thanks, Alex! And yeah you're right about the audio in the end... i noticed the subtitles failed to capture it cause of the noise. Still a lot to learn in this format.
Damn good to see another awesome comic art video, here on your channel. This topic specifically will be worth the wait. Thanks for the valuable content, you inspire my art.
I love this series. I'm actually re-watching them from the beginning. I do have one question: might be a mote point, but is there a different with working in a separate studio as apposed to working with an in-home studio? Do you share said studio with others or is it private? Thank you for making these videos, they are inspiring and greatly help me, not just with art, but other aspects of life all together. Keep up the great work.
Thanks so much, Jeffrey! How we approach work and art really translates to aspects of our daily lives so I figured I'd share a wider look at what it's like to be in the industry. And yes I have a separate studio I share with 3 other people. It will actually be the subject of episode 12 or 13 so keep an eye out!
I'm curious. By creating everything digitally, are you losing out on reselling your original artwork? My friend who is a penciler uses pencil and paper because he can resell his original artwork probably higher than his page rate. What are your thoughts?
It was a conscious decision when my first daughter was born so I could improve my efficiency and be able to have more time for the family. I definitely feel the loss of income, but luckily my output helped make up for it.
I think the biggest let down of being a comic artist is how when you are finnally working on books it de romanticizes the comic book magic (the allure of reading and holding a great book ) and instead it becomes a production job…trying to hold on the the magic of being an artist and still having a competent consistent artistic process to ensure deadlines are hit can be the pinnacle of stress and dis ease. In hindsight I wish I would have stuck through all the emotional pushback and kept going. …

Hey Renan, so happy to hear that!

Thanks! Yeah as they say, we make plans God laughs lol! Something always derails the plans no matter how well intentioned we make them.
absolutely underrated
Much appreciated!
I've followed you since the Legion of Super-Heroes......I have a few pages of your art.....sorry to see you go digital.
Hey thanks for sticking with me since then! It was a hard decision but I wanted to have more time to spend with the family since my kids are still pretty young.

Thanks, Andy! Glad you enjoyed the book!

Thanks! This will be quite a long series so buckle in!
I love all your videos. Thank you so much. Can I ask where you got that awesome "Toothbrush" brush from?
It's part of Kyle Websters brush packs. I bought it years ago, but if you sub to adobe it's now free.
Great video! I always love seeing behind the scene videos
Me too! I love watching all the bts stuff in dvd's!

5:02 you can go from prolific to infrequent. Like Jim Lee. 🙂
to be fair his job now is more in the business end. But man I'd love more jim art!
