the Truth about Working from Home

- Artist like you and me, and more than likely other freelancers from different fields have had the advantage or disadvantages of a lengthy experience with working from home. It’s something that has become increasingly relevant to the greater population in our ever-evolving world - the profound contrast between working from the comfort of our homes versus the creative environment of a separate studio space.

Francis, this video was BEYOND helpful to me! As a comic artist who’s drawing and self-publishing their first comic book, this was exactly what I needed! Thanks!! Keep it up!!
Awesome! And thank you! Best of luck with your journey!
As an artist, I miss the studio days but now I join drawing livestreams to hang out with other artists while drawing, and recreate those days.
Art friends. I miss art friends. There is nothing to compare with that kind of energy.
Totally.
It is amazing how much digital has changed the way artists work. "Back to the drawing board" is now more of a metaphor than a reality. "Everything is thoughtfully placed..." at least that classic Jim Lee X-Men 268 cover is well-positioned above the detritus. I'm just a writer so my office is always Starbucks. I wrote a novel there. I rarely get much substantial writing done at home any more.
That’s awesome! Do you ever find the noise at Starbucks distracting to your work?
@@Superior_Design I mean far more distracting is that I still have access to UA-cam, Facebook and email etc. But the noise doesn't bother me and I can put in earbuds and listen to something ambient (without many words) like some of Cercle's performances or somesuch if I really need to focus. It just feels much better being outside for awhile than sitting at home alone in my room staring at the computer.
Btw I see an artist in here all the time drawing portraits in his sketchbook. He usually does so for about 90-minutes or two hours every day.
@@GodLovesComics Nice! That’s awesome! Thank you!
I'd say the process is still fairly similar. I just make less of a mess :)
So good. I love this, dude! I'm the same way when I buy new gear. Haha!
Heck yeah!
there you go again, exactly the video I need. love it!
Same here!
So glad to have you back!
your studio is down the street from the tattoo shop i work at! beautiful neighborhood. thanks for these videos, i started watching yesterday as ive been wanting to get into comics after 22 years as a tattoo artist. comics were a childhood dream and i made them with friends when i was a young teen. these have been informative and motivating. if i see ya in the area ill say hi
No way! I pass by that place all the time! Say hi if you ever see me!
Thank you Francis, great video. I am someone who is dreaming of leaving nursing to pursue career in art, so this was highly interesting bit. Thanks for that.
Hey glad I could help in a small way. Wishing you the best!
Great video, always love these, so satisfying!
Another great video. Your ability to pack in tons of information, knowledge, and insight while still keeping things very entertaining is quite impressive... On yeah, and your art is pretty good too! 🤪 (yes.. that is a massive understatement!)
I appreciate that! Good to see you back here!
bro, i like your videos, i'm a new animator and these vids really get me fired up.
Same here!
Heck yeah!
You're putting out some great content, Francis! My cat is always right around me while I work, too. ;) It's also super nice watching you work in Clip Studio, my weapon of choice, too. Doing some great work there, I see. Thanks for posting!
Thanks! I use photoshop for my art.
HOW could I have missedthat?!! So sorry!@@FrancisManapulArt
You have the best videos of all comic creators.
Hey that truly means a lot to me! Thanks!
Thanks a lot for this videos, Francis. I really appreciate all the time and effort that you put in ❤
My pleasure!
Really appreciate this series, Francis. Currently working from home and planning to use these suggestions.
Awesome! Hope it goes well!
My friend that is an established penciler works the night shift at home. I'd never call him before 1:00 in the afternoon. He usually doesn't wake up until 11 or 12.
Wow, really? How does that work?
Yeah I used to do that when I was younger. Definitely fun having my days fee and working away at night.
your videos make me want to pursuit art full time as a profession. very inspiring and entertaining to watch, also a realistic representation of your experiences. please continue making them
I couldn’t agree more!
Happy to hear that! Hope your artistic journey goes well!
Great video
Thank you so much for this video, Francis. It's so timely!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you mr manapul!! These videos with more of an insight into the life part of comics are super helpful and interesting too
Hey super happy to hear this!
Oi, great video, as always 🤘
Hey, thanks!
it depends, but really its all about having actual choice. I'd rather not be forced to go back to work in the office I don't like, but I do like having a separate space such as a walkable to local library
Yeah I agree. I certainly wouldn't like being forced to go in. Luckily us freelancers can work from anywhere :)
Great content as always sir, I want to build an outside studio for me and my team soon, since working at my home studio can get distracting especially I have a 3 yr old running around, don't get me wrong I enjoy playing with her but the deadlines and distractions are not a great mix.
I totally get it. Love them kids but I just can't work around them lol
Thank you very much for this videos!! It is awesome to learn this part of the life of a fellow artist, also a mentor, who faces the same struggle The rest of us face day to day.
I couldn’t agree more! It’s really nice to have a transparent, inside look into the realities of being a comic artist!
@@Superior_DesignHow can i fimd the famous companies for comic books in Paris,Madrit,Verona,Jerusalem?
@@Aquarius285 I’m not sure. My best advice to you is to do your research for comic book companies in those areas that fit what you’re looking for! Hope this helps!
Thanks! Yeah the human experience is so universal no matter what stage we're all in.
@@FrancisManapulArt It turns out that this week I start using a coworking space that my wife and a friend rented for me for a month, the truth is I feel a little strange, but I'm going to give it a chance to see how it turns out.
