Well, for can boy, I'd say the most important factor is control. Trying to direct the flow of the conversation from certain topics; belittling the victim shows a need for feeling superior to others. Not wanting others to touch his belongings or move things out of place is also part of control. I'm not sure if he's looking for validation, by trying to get the others to agree with him, but with the upturned slant of the head I think he is seeking admiration ("look up to me"). I think the need to escape his cage is just an extension of his need for control - he can't be in control of himself or others as a prisoner. However, once outside, I'd expect him to disappear into a similarly confined space because it would offer him a greater sense of safety and predictability.

Wow!!!!! Amazing read! Literally profiler level analysis here! Pining this!!!
And you’re absolutely right about admiration. He couldn’t care less if people agree, he’s too arrogant, he knows he’s right. The only slight thing I would add is although you’re absolutely right that he’s likely to go to somewhere he feels safe, he also has a need for decompression and relaxation.
      But epic conclusions here

@@SpideyHypnosis Thank you! That's high praise, and I appreciate it.
I did notice the other comments about the sea noise CD, and the need to be at the beach. My thought is that he'd be like a rat or a snake, venturing outside to sun himself, but never far from his bolt hole if he had to retreat and feel safe.

There was this one scene in the mentalist(100th episode I think), where Patrick Jane used made up cards that he made with scraps of paper to tell which of the suspects is the murderer. He set the made up cards on the table, and the killer took the "Death" card for himself in the scene.

I would say, the obvious one is his love for the beach and how that calms him. I guess you would call that his happy place. His need for control sticks out to me as well. He was friendly, but also wanted to take control of the conversation right off the bat, with the random comments about a massage. You could say that was a way of saying hes stressed, but honestly I think it was more of a way to off balance the other person and show his control over the conversation. He doesn't like change I would guess, from eating the same thing over and over again and needing the same sound machine to relax. The comment he made about the clown, and it being clever was interesting. Not exactly sure where to go with that, but once again I think it shows his enjoyment of controlling another person. Using something they fear was smart to him, which would control someones behavior and show dominance over them. Thats all i can really think of after 1 watch (I didn't want to re watch it, just go on memory after you asked.

Unfortunately, I am too big a fan of the show. I do like how Jane is subtly prodding him to see his reactions. Just wandering about and fiddling with things....and he does it in a lot of episodes. Usually not so much that it seems odd, but enough to unsettle someone. It's gatherig intel in a way most of us wouldn't think about. And Simon Baker does an excellent job of portraying that.

There's one game at a casino where he can pretty much guarantee a return payout, and it plays into his strengths: the Poker Tables. There's nowhere near as many counter measures because it's not their money at risk. They just want to make sure everyone at the table is playing clean, including the dealer. Patrick Jane could fleece the other players left and right. As long as everyone is having fun and no one is chased out of the casino, they won't care.

Once again a awesome video. I really enjoy to hear these things explained through the eyes of a mentalist.
The clues i picked up from the scene are both the poster and the seagull sounds. It could give the conclusion that he eighter wants to be at a beach, or at least outside. The way he reacts in the conversation wasn't really open and the food looked simple to get.
My thoughts is that he wants to be in a place there not a lot of people pay attention to him.

The “no windows” isn’t really true anymore. Was years ago, but these days no.
The green pyramids on the craps table is called the alligator.
Adding extra decks to BJ doesn’t make it harder to count, but your right about penetration. Also most casinos on the strip pay a blackjack 6:5 instead of the normal 3:2, giving the casino an extra 1.4% edge making card counting useless as it’s not enough advantage to overcome the edge. You need to go off strip to find good games in Vegas. Station properties..

    • @SpideyHypnosis
      @SpideyHypnosis  3 роки тому +3

Yeah I didn’t want to get into too much detail for the average viewer for counting. The rules of the table, the spread, the limit on splitting aces, soft 17 rules etc make a big difference. Also here in Canada in a lot of casino the cut card goes 40-50% in which is why I brought up the multiple decks thing.

The sterling silver case thing perplexed me a little. I mean it could be like you said about earpiece or something but that seems unlikely since that would've been like the early 80s. I thought maybe they used the technique of first letter of each word spelling out parts of it. They'd only need like ster- and sil- for him to know what it was and the dad did say things that seemed unnecessary for the setup (unlike the Evansons, so impressive!). But that didn't work either so I am curious if there was anything real in that scene which would've informed little Patrick. Even if they only picked one particular kind of item, which is a common technique, the sterling aspect gives away that there needs to be some form of communication exchanged between the two.

He has his own ideas about things and seeks validation to some degree or maybe just confirmation of his position of intelligence. He has anxiety I think and seeks out things for relaxation and finds reassurance in routine. This may be part of his seeking to control the situation and desire for validation. I didn’t see what the book was but it probably something to either validate an idea or related to anxiety or control.

Nothing the casino itself did, but I worked in surveillance and basically learned how to cheat. I’d watch for players who would raise and lower their bets based on the count of the cards out of the shoe. Watching dealers to make sure they cleared their hands, didn’t push the first card up out of the way (basically a second deal) out of the shoe. Watching the poker tables to see what the dealers were doing, watching players, etc. It was a small casino, so there weren’t many of us, but I did a couple of “classes” with the other people in surveillance to show them what to look for. I’m sure there’s plenty I didn’t pick up, but that’s just my small slice of casino life in the bowels of a casino.

    Needs of the interviewee.
1 - security via personal order. This guy has a visceral need to be in a familiar, controlled environment. From his reaction to Patrick touching his sounds-of-the-beach generator, to his adherence to a diet of canned pasta (multiple repurposed cans in the room). Even his need to quickly pass snap judgments on others gives himself a sense of superiority and assurance and thus control.
2 - intelligence. This guy has no stock in his looks (little grooming), charm (shows attitude), sanity (no sign of insecurity about being in a mental ward) or physique. His entire self image is built upon intelligence; he bets all his social value upon having high intelligence. He doesn't appear to want new friends, and may default to a superiority complex, but he keeps trying to show off how smart he is, even to those he doesn't respect.
3 - the beach, which relaxes him. The noise generator and the poster kind of give it away.
... by the way, this guy is obviously an extreme introvert.

That being said, I ALWAYS use a mechanics grip, as do all my friends and most of the people I play with. I and them never would think of cheating anyone. I don't think I've seen the episode with the boy at all, or if I did, it was a long time ago. Judging by his attire, I would assume that he is in a mental institution and not a jail, but he seemed aware enough (considering the reference to alien conspiracies) to miss freedom. I would then hypothesize that one of his needs currently unmet is freedom. This is further supported by the noise machine playing beach noises placed directly underneath the poster of the beach-going girl. All of this is a simulation to aid in his escapism. Speaking of the poster, the shot of the girl makes me think back to his first (inappropriate) comments towards Lisbon. At first, I thought they were just designed to irritate her, but the presence of the image of an attractive woman on his wall where he can see it every day would suggest that his comments are also a manifestation of his sexual needs that are unmet. Back to the inappropriate things he says, he's antagonistic and derogating the misfortune of the victim they talk about which comes across as too strong to be genuine. I'd theorize he might be uncomfortable and trying to emotionally distance himself from the topic, but his body language is too relaxed to support that theory. The other theory is that he's trying to satisfy his need for control since he likely has none in the institution. This is potentially supported by the now-two cans of spaghetti and meatballs. The staff would of course feed him from the kitchen, but he's chosen on more than one occasion to eat a sub-optimal meal, suggesting he just wanted to be able to choose his meal even at a cost of quality. Or he could just like it. Or the kitchen food could be gross. Whichever it is, he obviously has a need to eat food other than what is provided.
Edit: I also forgot to talk about him blowing up when Jane touched the noise machine. Definitely a sign that he needs to be in control which corroborates the theory that he's power-seeking, not emotionally distancing with his aggression.

Wow 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 What an excellent analysis! Some terrific observations and if you communicated with this person based on this reading you would do a lot better than most. I have one comment and one curve ball
Comment: i would place what you identified as a need for control along with his need for freedom. Sort of like “freedom of choice” he has such few freedoms that he values the ones he does have, coming off as control. People who need control tend to be a lot more manipulative, he’s too careless. He wants to control his world but doesn’t care much for others. So to me that’s more about freedom
Curveball: would it change anything in your analysis if I said that I believe his intelligence, sexual references, anti social behaviours and need for patterns puts him on the autism spectrum?

    • @taylorcorbridge1492
      @taylorcorbridge1492 3 роки тому +1

@@SpideyHypnosis I completely agree with your Comment and think I was subconsciously considering them as the same thing. But since I was writing my comment to be true to my train of thought, the idea of freedom and control was interrupted and split by the theory of unmet sexual needs because something caught my attention.
As for the curve ball, if I were to consider him being autistic, I'd place less emphasis on the derogation of the victim for sure. Through that lense, what I thought was aggression comes across instead as disinterest. And as such, less attention would be given to be intentionally pro-social like many autistic people have to be. The inappropriately sexual comments still suggest sexual needs and the affected way he says it suggest that is still a power play though. The noise machine can also change from an emblem of freedom into a comfort object to reduce moments of overstimulation (although it's probably running double duty and being both in this case). Autistic people can also be picky eaters which would more than account for his preference for canned spaghetti and meatballs, especially if it was something he grew up eating at home. It becomes another security blanket. At first, I didn't think it would change much in my analysis, but after some thinking, it changed nearly everything 😅
Yet again, an edit to make: him getting angry at Jane touching the noise machine could also be him feeling threatened by someone touching one of his comfort objects. I wouldn't consider myself neurotypical but I'm not autistic and yet I still get agitated when someone messes with something I use to calm myself down.

Theoretically you can break a casino on games that give you odds close to 50% like Black Jack and using the red:black stacking algorithm on roulette.
But in case of Black Jack you don’t have enough time in your life to achieve that. Because of the betting limits that casinos introduce. Basically they’ll win more in the same time because of all the other punters that you could win if you won every hand.
In case of the roulette bet stacking you either need to have more wealth than George Soros and Elon Musk combined, logarithmic increments adds up really quickly. And also here betting limits work against you.
The casino controls the rules and thus the environment so theoretically you could beat the casino but practically, not!
And talking black Jack in many casinos the cards are continuously shuffled. After a hand is done the cards, are pushed in the table and added back to the continuous shuffling machine. So its totally random. There’s not an X amount of decks that are played through. So you can count high low all you want but its utterly useless.

The prisoner feels confined. Basic needs are met, but the "Don't touch that!" trigger is the sound of seagulls. There is also the beach poster. Once the sound effect is turned off, the prisoner resumes his blase' facade. The beach in particular has a special meaning. One would assume this to be related to happy memories, and possibly to certain people from the past. The central factor is likely to be a need for intimate human connection. His blase' facade when the seagull sound is not playing suggests that he is downplaying this need.
To be able to keep eating when informed that a former friend died violently would suggest that he would be in the sociopathy/psychopathy matrix. The crack in the facade with the seagull sound suggests that he is merely pretending to be unmoved, and thus hiding his true need. A certain intimate relationship from his past, involving freedom and/or a beach, is very likely his key motivation.

I also feel he has a strong need for intelligence, he focused on the cleverness of the clown costume and was willing to work on a problem for free. I also identified a need for superiority and a need for consistency (which is a basic human need but pretty strong in this guy)

Also on the consistency ... just to cover all bases ... is it possible that he sincerely does not care what he eats, and chooses the same thing in order to avoid wasting his time making choices? Or does that ever actually happen (the professor with only one color of shirt idea)?
