    HEY GUYS!!!! Hope you enjoy this one! Worked really hard on it! Let me know what you think!
    Learn how to actually read people and detect lies: ua-cam.com/video/boys-3_T86M/v-deo.html
    A few additional thoughts about the video for those who want more details.
    1) Some of you might look at the first scene and say “well obviously this is how he knew all these things...” but as Galileo said: “all truths are easy to understand once they have been discovered; the point is to discover them!” It’s much much much easier to figure out why he said what he said than it is to say it in the first place.
    2) In the first scene, I know he’s using cold reading and deductions. And he’s very good at it. The point I was trying to make is not that what he’s doing is impossible. My point is simply that mentalists rarely do elaborate cold reads like that. We normally depend on much more deceptive but certain “tricks” to get information.
    3) Some people in the comments said he moved the straw with static electricity, not by blowing. That is incorrect. They confirm in the episode that he blew. It is possible to move a straw with static but it looks nothing like that. The hand has to be closer and the movement looks much brisker. Also, most importantly, he picked it up and did it again. This can’t be done with static without recharging. Finally most mentalists would balance a straw on something and rotate it with static. A steady roll like that is much harder.
    4) Regarding Rock Paper Scissors. I know there are ways to increase your odds to win at Rock Paper Scissors. I also know you may have seen mentalists on tv or UA-cam win consistently at Rock Paper Scissors, but it’s not the same as what he he did in the clip. There are very subtle, hard to detect differences that I can’t talk about without giving away secrets that aren’t mine to give, but for those who know what to look for, it’s obvious he didn’t use what a mentalist would actually use to accomplish this. The way he did it can’t be done, you’re just going to have to trust me on this.
    5) For the triangle and circle. Some of you noticed he signals the shapes with his hands as a way to “subliminally influence” her. Good catch! However, not all mentalists use this, because sometimes the spectator might notice it and think of something else on purpose (in fact a lot of you commented that you purposely changed your mind because it was too obvious). Besides, the point I was trying to make is that with these tricks, we hope for the best outcome, gesture or not.
    Thanks for watching!

      I loved the show but I hated the episodes that had too much about Red John in them. I've rewatched the whole series twice so far and still find it entertaining. I dislike the Red John character because he is too good at everything and too many followers that go under the radar to be interesting. He is clearly just an excuse to make the writing easier. Also, I don't like the gory scenes that they use in those episodes. I think they could have written the series just fine by catching Red John in the first season.

    • @TheJjcczz
      @TheJjcczz 3 роки тому +25

      @@RobertShaverOfAustin He was too integral to Jane’s character to be caught that quickly, there had to be a reason why Jane wasn’t able to catch him before. Otherwise everyone would look like idiots. That being said they definitely dragged it out and built it up too much. Leaving it as the guy in the mall would have been a much better option and given them more time to explore Jane’s life at the CBI after killing Red John

    Jane’s abilities stem from his mastery of His CONfidence. He understands how people think in a given situation and uses confidence to sell his abilities. He also has mastered how to “lead the mind” of his mark. He has experience in redirecting attention when he deals with skepticism. Yes it’s a TV show so it needs to truncate many of the cons of manipulation and sometimes suspend reality for the storyline. It’s one of my favorite shows

    With rock, paper, scissors. I make my decision slightly after they do.
    The most complicated hand motion is the scissors. The least is rock. So once you see fingers come apart, it's either scissors or paper. So I pick scissors in that instance.
    If no finger movement, paper.
    If they aren't paying as much attention. I can observe thumb curl, which means they'll pick scissors. So then I do rock.

    I think Jane's mentalism is based on taking risks 95% of the time -- he's gutsy with no holdback and perhaps one of the fatal flaws of the show is they never do offer his faults. That makes it entirely too idyllic (coming from a major fan of said show). His calm demeanor can be said to be part of how he could get away with this approach, that, and his charm to distract. However, I believe the scene where he predicts rock, paper, scissors could possibly occur to some extent. His opponent was angry, making him more likely to show a fist (rock) than anything else. His next obvious move would be to do the opposite. I've heard of watching pulse in body language reading and it is likely there could be a couple other tells within the arm. I'm not entirely sure it is impossible. If you anger a friend and then immediately play the game to decide who's right or wins, they probably will go far rock first and paper second. What do you think?

    • @gabrielabagala
      @gabrielabagala 2 місяці тому +1

      My brother and I used to play rock-paper-scissors when we were teenagers, and after 2 or 3 "warm-up" attempts, we managed to get all our results the same (for example: both rock, both scissors, etc). And we achieved this equality one after another, for about 10 minutes straight. I can't explain that other than with "synchronicity"... if you have any other explanation, it's welcome.

    For the vegetable I thought of broccoli, for looking out the window on a roadtrip I thought of a cow, and for pulling a tool out of a toolbox I thought of a wrench… The thing that sealed the deal in the clip from the Mentalist was the hand motions Patrick was doing: he first motioned in a triangle, then in a circle. Excellent break down! Always enjoy your presentations and explanations Spidey. Thank you for your great magic and mental lessons. I was fortunate enough to call Randi a friend. He explained the straw trick to me at a diner in Oahu. He would do it exactly as it was done on the segment you showed. But then he taught me another "upgraded" version. As you gently blow, you stop and turn your head away. By the time the "air" has touched the straw, your head is no longer facing the straw and gives an even more impressive look to the effect. The waitresses expression was priceless and before you knew it, Randi and I were surrounded by the other staff in the diner and not only did we all get a free show, we were treated by the manager as well. I laughed when Randi bent and broke one of the spoons at the table and the waitress quickly grabbed it and ran off saying something like, "I'm keeping this!" He was a great human being and so full of knowledge and willing to share it too. That is why I like following you too! As for the triangle and the circle, yes, I imagined the same design too. For the tools, I guess because I am also a non-believer, I went from HAMMER to SCREWDRIVER and finally to WRENCH. Bottom line, I still mentally chose the HAMMER first. Again, thank you so much for all you do to further our art!! Take care and stay safe Spidey! Magically, Hank Rice from GUAM, USA.

There was a contractor that came in all the time and standing orders were for everyone to stop typing when she was there. Once I was a guest at a very rich families house. I took a few moments to look at the parents book shelf. It had a few books on problem children. Which was odd because the family had good children. I asked the mother about her life with her kids. The conversation then revolved around how difficult her oldest was. I spent some with the children. Before my time with the family ended i told the eldest child I also was the black sheep in my family. My parents resented me because I was too outspoken and told the truth too often. I sense that is the big problem this house has with children. She then with tears in her eyes gave me a hug as we left the house.
