  • In this video we will be looking at creating amazing single layer halftone stencil portrait of Marilyn Monroe using the Gimp software and cut out on the Cricut Explore Air 2. While I would normally prefer to spray paint through my stencils, the recent restrictions on material availability meant that I had to improvise using what I could find lying around.
    Materials:
    Canvas-size of your preference
    Black paper-210 gsm was used in this video
    Transfer sheets-not used but highly recommended
    Paint-optional
    Spray adhesive
    Software:
    www.gimp.org/
    Music:
    boogie pep - Instrumentals
    -Soulsmasher

    I do not own the rights to this image but feel free to use it and make a version for yourself.

    You can also take color selection tool in gimp to remove the white. Or make a vector/brush in gimp if you select the black or with copy and past it like a vector or brush in a new layer. It's nice work with the news paper effect to make a halftone effect and cool how you print it out and make this pop art👍🏻

    LOVE your art!!!! I tried to follow along but my newsprint feature is different than yours. You have a G next to yours and mine is at the bottom of the list with that other symbol. Any suggestions?

    • @WickedPaint

      Thank you so much and I am so happy to hear you are trying it out. When I created this video I made sure I installed the latest version of Gimp which is 2.10.18 so I would check to see if yours is the same. I don't know what the G symbol actually means but will have a look and come back to you with a better answer. Is your newsprint feature creating the same result when applied to the image?

    VERY COOL bro.. Just downloaded GIMP to try this style out.. Wish you could recreate this in Photoshop.. I tried, but my brain is broke.. lol

    • @WickedPaint
      @WickedPaint  3 роки тому +2

      It is possible but it is a bit tricky in photoshop as it doesn't give you the same amount of options. Gimp definitely has some cool features considering its free.

    Hello, I tried to print it but there’s a yellow triangle telling me that I can’t print cause the image is too large . How do I bypass it as you’ve done ?

    • @WickedPaint
      @WickedPaint  2 роки тому

      Hi, so what I did was save out the image in two half's so it fit the printer size. Then I cut them both out at the same size and stuck them together afterwards.

    can this method be used to screen print with vinyl?

    • @WickedPaint
      @WickedPaint  3 роки тому

      I've never tried screen printing with vinyl to be honest but it looks really interesting. It could work if you have a good way to transfer the vinyl without getting the thin parts tangled up. Maybe by using a vinyl transfer sheet to get it the design onto your screen then it would work.

    Do you know where I can print a stencil if I don’t have the printer?

    • @WickedPaint
      @WickedPaint  3 роки тому

      Good question, this was cut with a cutting machine and if you don't have one of those then you can print it out and cut it by hand if you have the time. Otherwise you can always go to a sign making shop where they have these machines and ask them to cut it for you if you have a file ready for them.

      @@angiec3860 Wow, its awesome to know people from the other side of the world are watching my videos.
      You could try finding someone local with a cricut machine who is willing to cut it for you or you could try an online service like www.stencilsonline.com/ where you can upload your design and they will cut it for you. There are also lots of people on etsy willing to do this also if you have a design.
