Are you new to these headphones? There are ALOT (NOT 2) of versions of this headphone. It comes in 80/250/600ohms. It comes in black and silver. It also has two models being the premium and the pro. Premiums have different headbands and cords. Pros have the coiled cord. All of these sound the same but the exception of the ohms. And you don't even list good mixamps/DACs for gaming. You listed a shitty Creative Omni with no Optical Input!?? Are you high? Why didn't you list the Creative G6? You have no clue what the fuck you are talking about. LMAO. Do your research instead of trying to make money off a video driven by Ninja's success.

These are studio headphones which is why they don't have "great bass". They're meant to be flat so that you can get balanced mixes in the studio. They will give you clean and "accurate" sound within the spec range. Accurate meaning it's not influenced by a built in EQ. This means that when you're recording, it will represent the actual sound coming out of your DAW so that you can balance them accurately. For example, if your headphones were heavy on bass instead of neutral, then during your mix, you might reduce the bass and then when someone plays it back on a system that isn't heavy on bass, it'll end up having no bass at all. That said, if you're already listening to mastered content (like games), then they will give you the intended balance as created by the sound engineers for the game. If you want more bass, then you're opting to modify the source which is fine, but that's not what these cans are for.

@@tectonicimp7801 any of the gamer headsets are fine (hyperx , turtle beach, Sony, razr). Just look for a good frequency response (e.g. 12k-20k at least) and then we the bass up in your audio software. Or just research any highly rated sets made for *listening* to music. You’ll save hundreds. “Studio headphones” are a waste of money for gamers.

@@tectonicimp7801 if you have an external mic, then I'd just search for cans that are made for listening instead of mixing, that's really the main distinguisher and should help narrow it down. I don't generally listen on headphones, and for gaming, I prefer to turn the bass down so I can hear the sound effects that matter in competitive games -- so I don't have much of an opinion nor recommendation there.

Had these for a couple years and I still keep them in rotation with all of my other cans. A removable cable mod was the first thing done to mine. Makes them 10/10. You have to keep in mind when these were first initially released (2004?) , that's the reason for the attached cord. if you don't feel like modding you can also spring for the new version, the DT1990 :P -Edit for spelling-

Good review and good headphone, but what never gets mentioned in reviews and i think it should is the fact that Beyer earpads need replacing every 6 months and they are 20 a time. Cheaper headphone velour pads such as Takstar Hi 2050 those don't wear out like the DT 990 Pro does.

As mixing goes in my studio I love the idea of an outwards shootout audio open end headphones. It's affordable and the company is 🔥 get yourself a two year replacement plan especially during the corona shit is concerned they won't let you return anything like mics or headphones.

I appreciate a well done review, good video and clear audio. I have used AKG K240 headphones for years in composing my electronic synth music, and they are extremely clear , but also have slightly de-emphasized bass as well. But they are just a bit uncomfortable to wear for hours in a recording session. I was wondering if you have used the AKG K240 and if so, how do they compare to the DT990? I am going to find a store that has these Beyer's to check out.

I own these for music production the 250ohm. I was surprised to see the big time gamers using them as gaming headsets. It pretty much makes all sounds at an equal balance, which is important for producing music so nothing is too overwhelming on the finished product. If you want a cinematic experience these are not for that. These are more for the technical side of things

    • @areddan
      @areddan 2 роки тому +2

Competitive games are developed with high fidelity sound and binaural positioning. Important in games like Valorant/Hunt:Showdown and more to know where shots are coming from, explosions, footsteps, etc.
Hunt:Showdown team actually used DT 770s during dev for this reason. AAA single player is more what you're referring to with the cinematic experience with less importance on separating sounds and positional awareness.

I like these headphones but I wouldn't call them balanced by any means. It has a bump in the bass, some roll off in the sub bass (to be expected with an open back) and a pretty hefty peak in the highs.

Even with the price of a standalone mic/usb micro added this is so worth it. The soundstage is amazing, the comfort is 10/10 and the price is just to die for. If after a few years the earpads get dirty/flat you can just replace them easily for a good price which is just amazing. You CAN NOT go wrong with trying these headphones atleast. If you consider buying the 990s I would highly recommend you to also try the 770s. I have been using the 990s for over a year now and they are my first open back headphones.
Over time I realized that I personally miss how closed back headphones sound and I also realized that I could find the enemies better, once I used closed back headphones... Thats why I am going from the 990s to the 770s now.
Open back headphones are not the best for everyone and I highly recommend trying them before you buy them if you have the opportunity...! ALSO If you are not sure that your sound device actually has enough power for the 250 ohms version, then get the 80 ohms one! There is pritty much no difference when it comes to sound but there is when it comes to loudness trust me! I have both and I prefer the 80 ohms version! The 250 ohms one is also kind of uncomfortable to listen to because its just a little bit too sharp and precise. Its really just for music production and things like that but not for gaming.

The DT990's paired with a Soundblaster X G6 AMP/DAC has been some of the best money I've spent on my setup. The amp provides plenty of juice for the 250ohm version and the software's "Scout" mode (filters out ambient noise found in gameplay) is so good that it almost feels like cheating lol, you can hear everything related to enemy player movements.

You should know that ohms is the unit for resistance, not power. Yes you need more power for them but there is much more to it than just boosting the signal. Amps have as much impact on the sound of the headphones as the headphones. Also the difference between 250 and 80ohms is not noice, it's more like the resolution of sound. Gamers won't tell the difference anyway so any gamer just go for the 80ohms unless you're a producer and you know the difference, but then you wouldn't watch this video review but a review by someone who really knows what he's talking about, no offense. For gamers still a good video I think.

Coming from a Sennheiser 598 CS (closed source aka closed back) to the DT 990 Pro (I already had an amp), the sound was... interesting to get used to, as these were my first open back headphones. I opted for open back even though my Sennheiser's weren't broken because I was getting headaches from the closed back causing pressure over a long time of gaming or working (I'm on video calls for work). The other day I tried the Sennheiser's again and now that I've gotten used to the DT 990's, the Sennheiser's are complete rubbish by comparison. I don't recall them being that bad. But I'm redpilled on open back despite my dislike of sound leaking - the quality improvement is worth it.
Edit: my only gripe is that they're too tight, again putting too much pressure on my head, which can sometimes induce headaches. Not as bad as the Sennheisers because the DT 990 is open back, but still a bit too tight for my liking. But I'm not going to swap them out because they're too good for the price (£108 in UK is a bargain)

awesome review! i personally own the 250 ohm dt990s and they still sound good from your phone, they just dont go very loud or anything. also ohms is not the amount of power needed to drive the headphone. it is the impedance of the voicecoil located inside the driver. the higher it is the thinner and longer the copper wire of the voicecoil is, and the more power is needed to drive them

I own the DT990s 250ohm along with several pairs of headphones. If you use them with a dedicated amp and windows sonic with a treble reduction EQ they are monsters for gaming. When is comes to music listening I wouldn't recommend them. In addition to the harsh highs I found that the sound is too thin and airy overall. A good choice for gaming if you can invest in them.
