My youngest son moved into his own place two years ago and chose his own decor and colour scheme, I helped him paint, he chose teal and pink for his bedroom which I thought was a bold choice but it looks beautiful and he had several occasional tables with beautiful lamps and coasters and unusual pieces he picked up. He has since met and is marrying his beautiful french fiancée next year. I put it down to having a wonderful, tasteful mother 🤣🤣

Kazoo might be the most perfect little speck of a creature to ever draw breath and/or be on camera. Also, this is a great video! I'm not a bachelor dude, but I spent my teens and the beginnings of my 20s living with my divorced dad and I definitely picked up some of his hideous household habits, so this was a deeply necessary push to commit to doing away with the last vestiges of that.
I wonder if the single male population of the world will understand what a GIFT this is for them. Their moms have been saying ALL of this to them for years but they need to hear it from YOU Ms. Winkler!!!! This video should be required homework for every dude. ALL OF THEM!! A+ for the fellas who put the lotion away before the video is even over.
As the mother who has desperately tried to get this through to my son, I totally agree! Indeed, I'm thinking of putting this video up on my livingroom tv next time my son is around. He actually pays attention to my "background noise" at times. Fingers crossed. Also, I'm buying him a freaking rug!
I love that she picked the ordinary as the perfect man brand to display! It really does work, and I never even thought of it for that purpose. I always felt their packaging was too simple, but this puts it in a whole new light.
Don't think I ever left a comment on a video before but damn it Caroline.... You're freaking awesome keep being you. I have learned so much from you on design, on life, and on relationships. I'm a 62-year-old man that has been married twice. Thank you. That's all I've got to say is thank you!
Caroline yelling at bachelors is what my life was missing, even though there isn’t a single bachelor in my life and I’m happily married to a guy who thankfully has learnt a thing or two about good interior design from me. 😂
Didn’t know a sassy interior design scolding could be therapeutic lol This video reminded me how badly I need your (and also your sister’s) dissing of AD’s celebrity homes. Pls bring it back! ❤
@Caroline Winkler you need the flip side for women- how to design your space so that men don't run in fear away because they can hear someone's marriage/baby clock ticking so loudly it belongs in the Upside Down. You know the ones... all pink, ruffles, doll collections, fuzzy toilet seat covers, affirmational signs, etc?
Someone shared your organization video with me about a month ago; after that, I got hooked to your channel. You’re funny, helpful, and GENUINE! (Coming across someone who is genuine is refreshing. It makes you feel like a friend
There are people I've watched for years, and I'm not subscribed to them because I'm not interested in every single video they post. I subscribed to this channel after 2 VIDEOS.
Love this message - and as a non-bachelor I found lots I needed to hear as well. Particularly the practicalities of why “design” is self care and makes your life easier. Love it! Keep yelling! :)
You are so super creative in how you deliver content! Men need to hear this from a woman that’s NOT their mother. Women feel more comfortable in a place that’s CLEAN, and looks cozy. These things are what make us WANT to spend the night or take our shoes off or want to cook with you in your kitchen. It’s no more excuses that men/bachelors get a pass. They are staying single longer so get it together with Caroline’s advice!
Haha same w my 3 yr old son! He said - why hers yellin' mama?? He also said - huh!?! Eating innot uhgustin'!! No! I wuv eatin! You have the ears of three year olds, as well, Caroline 😂
On the bath mat front, if my fellow bachelors aren't into soft, absorbent things that require regular cleaning, look into a diatomaceous stone bath mat like the ones from Dorai Home... they dry instantly and are your second favourite colour (grey)!
Thrilled that I already practice a few of these tips (burgandy is my color, my art is framed) and mortified that I'm guilty of some of these crimes (beard shavings, liquor bottles displayed) 😂
Okay so like hear me out - obviously I will be cleaning the beard shavings if I know someone is coming over, but holy shit it is impossible not to get them everywhere. I literally pick up my trash can off the floor, put it in the sink, and shave with my face as close to being inside the trash can as I can possibly tolerate, and they still get fuckin everywhere. And maybe it’s laziness, but I do not have the time or energy to be fully cleaning the countertops every single time I shave. Very much open to life hacks on this front lmao
@@diemdia ABSOLUTELY. I even have a beard bib which helps with the bulk but there are always a bunch that just fly out wherever they want to. And yeah, someone's coming over? I'll clean them up. But otherwise it's honestly such a hassle to keep up with it's insane
This is so interesting. I’m gonna say get one of those tiny dirt devil gadgets to clean up after each shave. They are like the size of a pistol, or smaller. Keep it in the bathroom.
My husband has a beard trimmer with a vacuum built in. It's not perfect, but it cuts way down on the clippings going everywhere. He was about to buy something else, "because it was cheaper," and I made him put it back. I will pay $20 to be free of beard hair.
Not bachelor, but I'm here for this. XD Tbh framing posters make such a difference. That room she showed was like my room when I lived with my parents - putting up those free posters from conventions. When I finally got my own place, I took them with me & framed the ones I didn't want ruined & hung them up. Most of the other ones, I threw away. Frames really made such a difference. A few posters I kept & have taped to a corner wall so I can see them often. Every so often, I get rid of one that I'm tired of looking at. What is it with men and dark colors?? Yea it can be your favorite color, but a home (whether house or apt) needs light colors so it looks big and inviting and clean. Its such a process - I'm trying to get my brother to move away from dark hues.
I am older woman that adores moody jewel tones (mostly greens) and wood.......but I accent with gold and very specific red with those minimal black pieces here and there. I can tolerate pastels and greys in friends I interiors for a minute but would slit my throat if if in own space. Please let ur brother's soul speak into his space. Yeah a plant here or there (nice faux is acceptable).....maybe a side table with light marble(natural element)top instead of dark wood. I distress every painted wood surface (nothing slick). Trust me....he's not you.
@@janmoore6340 Jewel tones are better than the blacks and browns men gravitate towards. Never said it needs to be pastels or gray. I never said he was me. But we live in similar tiny apts and he insists on matching black to black - "tv is black so the console table, coffee table, speakers need to be black". The ugly brown bath & sink mat so 'you can't tell if it's dirty.' It's a lot of darkness for a small apt. Pick a richer blue or green. Certain textures just doesn't work in brown. At least his bed is a nice rich darker wood color. No plants bc of the cats. It's one thing letting your soul speak in the apt and another when you're just lazy. Took me a year to convince him to get a display case to show his figures/collectables.
@@janmoore6340 No worries! I think we all get a bit defense when it comes to our aesthetics. That's the word I was blanking on - he needs to find his aesthetic. No rush, but lets not be dirty and lazy. Hahaha!
My son at 20 (now 27) and his then house mates collected empty toilet rolls on the toilet floor! They joked about getting empty toilet roll tattoos as they realised the stupidity in it. I’m thankful my son is now taking much more pride in his space now.
I like the passionate energy! Yelling because you're excited to get the point across is ok. Yelling in anger (at your viewers) isn't ok. That's not happening here people. There's a difference. I get it.
Duuuude my dad is a bachelor and has a styled coffee table!! It's inspiring. We can believe in huMANity. 😅 you are so fun thank you for letting us have fun with you all the timeee!! Cute pup too! Meow 🎉
Telling men that some of these things won't make them less of a man is so on point. I absolutely hate toxic masculinity embedding stupid beliefs in their brains.
Sharing this with my son and his four best friends right now! I’ve been in all of their apartments and houses (they’ve been friends since they were 8 and they are 27 years old now) I’ve seen every one of these things 😂 As always hearing something from outside the maternal unit allows them to hear the message. Hopefully Caroline’s tips will help them snag me a daughter in law and eventually a couple yummy grand babies to love on! Here’s hoping 🤞🏼 😂
Having 3 grown son's and seen it all. If all they do is clean the bathroom and take out the trash I think it's good. Having design sense is miraculous! They should all watch your video!
Yes. This is the video I need. Let's goooo Edit: "I pray you own a book" does it count if I've bought them but never ended up reading them? 😬 Edit 2: I HAVE A RUG!
Oof the rug comment hurt. I had to get rid of mine because I have a 400 sq foot apartment, and NO space for a decent vacuum (literally it was just sitting in my bedroom out all the time) and I live at the beach so my rugs were just FULL of sand all the time even when I vacuumed. I miss my rugs because they did really tie the house together but when it's a choice between minimal visual clutter and cleanliness vs a better design aesthetic I had to choose. RIP my funky green rugs, but yay for my sanity.
Can you make a video about interior design for "ugly" apartments? Like, is it possible to make a space with beige wall to wall carpet and brown baseboard heaters look nice? I'm sure I'm not alone, there's a limited stock of cute apartments, and even less are actually affordable!
The Biggest problems I see in all single straight guy apartments: 1. All furniture is pushed up against walls 2. Only one sitting surface, which is a couch, and it always faces the tv, so if people come over you have to all sit in a line facing the same direction 3. NO CORD MANAGEMENT
7:11 How you have fun with the freedom to just say how you feel and what you really mean all while saying it so freaking funny- that's what I dig most about your videos. You're the realist Caroline!
When I met my now husband he had literally just moved in to his apartment (like he had been there for a month or so). He had decor in his bathroom, a pop of teal in his living room, a big iron and driftwood bookshelf in his bedroom and neutral rugs in every room - clean, tasteful and comfortable. I moved in with him a year later ^^
I am so bad at adding pillows and trays and stuff. You are really encouraging me. I may be a girl, and I am great at putting color everywhere, but details escape me, probably because I have moved around a lot, so I got used to not owning trinkets. Now I have a flat of my own and I have been furnishing it slowly over a year, I am almost done, and your advice truly is helpful to me when it comes to picking the decor details even though our styles don’t match at all. Thank you!
Hello.....my accessory journey began about 50 yrs. ago....so is vague memory....but my first advice is only gather items that make ur heart smile/giggle/scream "Yes" in ur gut. If they evoke a good memory of comfort/sweet happy times/adventure that you'd like to recapture. If you started out with solid color pillow...keep eye out for patterned (floral/stripe/paisley) version in same color to add or replace. Take time to look over shelves in antique or thrift shops....get a feel for your preferences. Hopefully.... I don't create an addict....lol
@@janmoore6340 thank you for the advice! I do that for furniture, but trinkets tbh have never spoken to me at all. I rarely get something that has no practical purpose, I mostly feel like it's just one more thing to clean and move around 🤣 But I will try!
Clutter is a hazard. You sound to be more intentional than I was in younger days. Have definitely hosted garage sales of discarded items as I trade "up" in my search. Maybe collect only items that relate to your preferred furniture choice. Natural woods and fabrics maybe refer to similar themes in art, useful trays/bins to gather coffee table clutter. Use things for other than original intent. Have floral planter in outer metal holder for keeping plenty of TP available in my bathroom.(One of my top fears in visiting others)No one EVER is without. I have collected wooden cigar boxes with pretty artwork on covers along with clean original options because of an obsession with "To Kill a Mockingbird". Book and movie. Author "Harper Lee" wrote screenplay. One too many was attached to wall among framed outdoor art. This small hideaway cubby makes me giggle to see. Artwork on top has woodgrain that flows and catches people off guard when they realize what it is. Fun. Large wicker birdhouse keeps old bottle collection together with couple favorites set by door of cage. Old keys(another fascination) sit inside natural pottery leave plate on livingroom table. Other birdhouse collects glass "Christmas" ornaments year round. All my teas are kept in favorite tins collected over the years. Bird or fruit motifs only. Don't know if this helps you at all.....but thanks for letting me share outcome from decades of fun.
@@janmoore6340 yes, I try mostly that approach. I also use books and special editions of movies and albums as decor, which helps! Your house sounds lovely! ✨ Thanks to you for sharing your experience, it was very sweet to go through it with you.
My Dad got really into decorating his house after he got divorced and everyone loves his place especially his new girlfriend and people always say how impressed they are with his decor and paint choices
I love how you said that it's more like, "SHOW ME YOU HAVE A PERSONALITY, for crying out loud!" 😂 Life is about enjoying and BEING, and design shows your choices and yes- personality. Live happy, people

Caroline - I'm dying. Brown being a go to "color" for "men". Hilarious...because it is TRUE! My boyfriend in my late 20s did not only have a dark chocolate brown bathmat, but microfiber towels to match. I hated them so much. Also, no matter how many times he washed the towels, they left little brown pieces of microfiber on you whenever you used them. Uhhhgh.
I'm dead. First, loving Caroline's face at 1:51. Also.... yes you really can still be a man if everything isn't brown. The prior owner of our home was a bachelor and we are slowly undoing all the brown walls, cabinets, trim, doors, floors.... And it's amazing what just paint can do!
Your energy is the reason I continued clicking on your videos after watching the messy home declutter video. Plus there are way worse things than having a beautiful woman yell at me about my design choices. Get your yell on girl!
Things in a man’s apartment that make me cringe: 1. Athletic jerseys hung ON THE HANGER on a nail in the wall 2. A bed that looks like it hasn’t been made since his mom last visited 3. Wires and cables with no thought to managing them nicely 4. Dirty bathroom Thank you for coming to my unsolicited Ted talk

guys she's right about the rug. I thought I couldnt have one because my dog peed all over my old one so i had to throw it away and i told myself, "i'm not allowed to have a rug because it'll just get ruined". after a while i couldnt deal with it any more and i went to big lots and bought a plain $30 rug to test out whether my dog will let me have a rug this time and so far so good. even this inexpensive rug made such a difference in the space. it looks like you're the kinda guy that does stuff on purpose when you have a rug.
Brown is great, but a space needs more pop of color beyond brown. I started my space super minimalistic to sort of start with a blank canvas, but now I def need some brighter fun colors mixed in

Ditto about Kazoo!
She’s a completely intolerable little piece of dust 🥺
I’m dying. “I just want everyone to be happy. That’s why I’m yelling at you.” 😂😂😂😂 You make my Saturdays Caroline.
That’s why I yell at people, C.
This is so helpful I can see all the men in my life clutching their masculine pearls “what’s wrong with brown?!?” 😂
You are the best Karen on the entire internet!!! Man pearls, priceless
Their pearls 😍😂
@@Caroline_Winkler just the two 😂
I love that she picked the ordinary as the perfect man brand to display! It really does work, and I never even thought of it for that purpose. I always felt their packaging was too simple, but this puts it in a whole new light.
The Ordinary is my favorite skin care, and I love how it looks on my bathroom counter tray! So classy :D (am female, just fyi)
I personally always note a good toiletry
I use the Ordinary!
Didn’t know a sassy interior design scolding could be therapeutic lol
This video reminded me how badly I need your (and also your sister’s) dissing of AD’s celebrity homes. Pls bring it back! ❤
A minute in and love the video! Can you do a video for college students?! How to make dorm rooms feel like a home?
on board with this!
Oh I love this idea!! I do think it’ll be a series, so taking all suggestions!
Great idea!
@@jawjagrrl Jesus, yes. Im a woman, married to a man, but When i go into those "little girl" spaces i get the creeps. I cant stay long.
So touched to hear this, I’m honored thank you ❤
I love that “well well well” is your new opener these days 😂❤
Idk why! Just overflowing with naughty disdain this season
@@Caroline_Winkler we’re here for it 🙌🏻
Love this message - and as a non-bachelor I found lots I needed to hear as well. Particularly the practicalities of why “design” is self care and makes your life easier. Love it! Keep yelling! :)
It’s the little things, especially in design, that can help the overall aesthetic feel even more well designed.
My three year old daughter is watching this with me and saying “I want to see someone yelling”. Haha! Keep it up we have a fan over here.
You are the perfect level of volume and the correct level of animated.
"beard shavings"🧐😂
Sounds like you are awesome sister! Think some of my own issues spilled out there in my response. Any steps forward are good ones. Hang in there😀
I am a woman and I love my framed artsy movie posters because I love movies. I don't care.
Meow 🎉
Protect this man!!!
Telling men that some of these things won't make them less of a man is so on point. I absolutely hate toxic masculinity embedding stupid beliefs in their brains.
Pretty sure the lack of decoration in single men's apartments is less to do with toxic masculinity and more to do with them all being depressed. 🤷
LOL in my experience it's a little of both 😭😭
@@SquishypuffDave statistically, depression is more common among women so that doesn't add up
Putting the puppy in the ad break... you got me. No skippies.
Men are allowed to articulate their intellect & emotions through their environment. Too Real.
Sharing this with my son and his four best friends right now! I’ve been in all of their apartments and houses (they’ve been friends since they were 8 and they are 27 years old now) I’ve seen every one of these things 😂
As always hearing something from outside the maternal unit allows them to hear the message. Hopefully Caroline’s tips will help them snag me a daughter in law and eventually a couple yummy grand babies to love on! Here’s hoping 🤞🏼 😂
😅😅😅 what if they decide to be childfree
this is hilariously methodical! good luck
Having 3 grown son's and seen it all. If all they do is clean the bathroom and take out the trash I think it's good. Having design sense is miraculous! They should all watch your video!
On the contrary, get louder, get crazier, be even more passionate! This is why we adore you, Caroline!
Yes. This is the video I need. Let's goooo
Edit: "I pray you own a book" does it count if I've bought them but never ended up reading them? 😬
Edit 2: I HAVE A RUG!
Totally counts 😉
Oof the rug comment hurt. I had to get rid of mine because I have a 400 sq foot apartment, and NO space for a decent vacuum (literally it was just sitting in my bedroom out all the time) and I live at the beach so my rugs were just FULL of sand all the time even when I vacuumed. I miss my rugs because they did really tie the house together but when it's a choice between minimal visual clutter and cleanliness vs a better design aesthetic I had to choose. RIP my funky green rugs, but yay for my sanity.
Watched this video this morning while I was trying to figure out what to do today. Well, I guess now I know. ♥
Can you make a video about interior design for "ugly" apartments? Like, is it possible to make a space with beige wall to wall carpet and brown baseboard heaters look nice? I'm sure I'm not alone, there's a limited stock of cute apartments, and even less are actually affordable!
It can be possible. I lived in one and had no issue having those as base colors, besides I like beige and natural brown so I was inspired.
the energy of this video is immaculate!! I had such a grin on my face throughout :)
The Biggest problems I see in all single straight guy apartments:
1. All furniture is pushed up against walls
2. Only one sitting surface, which is a couch, and it always faces the tv, so if people come over you have to all sit in a line facing the same direction
3. NO CORD MANAGEMENT
Hahaha this is so on point 😂
"Things That Are Not Decor" had me laughing so hard I scared the dog.
Having a cute dog in frame has to be the most effective way to keep me watching your ad.
Have fun and yes, know your clutter threshold. Enjoy your home to the max! I’m only starting to decorate now I’m older and I’m loving it.
My Dad got really into decorating his house after he got divorced and everyone loves his place especially his new girlfriend and people always say how impressed they are with his decor and paint choices
literally in mid of "i need to make my bedroom pretty, cozy and inviting" breakdown and here you come.
oh it’s for male bachelors
I love how you said that it's more like, "SHOW ME YOU HAVE A PERSONALITY, for crying out loud!" 😂
Life is about enjoying and BEING, and design shows your choices and yes- personality. Live happy, people
In all fairness, I've seen my share of bachelorette homes (in lieu of pad) that Seriously Need this advice. Entertaing and Informative per usual Caroline ✨
Even newly married couples who haven’t figured out their combined style yet and just bought bog standard items from furniture stores.
Completely agree 🙌
Caroline - I'm dying. Brown being a go to "color" for "men". Hilarious...because it is TRUE! My boyfriend in my late 20s did not only have a dark chocolate brown bathmat, but microfiber towels to match. I hated them so much. Also, no matter how many times he washed the towels, they left little brown pieces of microfiber on you whenever you used them. Uhhhgh.
😂😂😂
Things in a man’s apartment that make me cringe:
1. Athletic jerseys hung ON THE HANGER on a nail in the wall
2. A bed that looks like it hasn’t been made since his mom last visited
3. Wires and cables with no thought to managing them nicely
4. Dirty bathroom
Thank you for coming to my unsolicited Ted talk
Dirty bathroom is a deeeeeaaaal breaker
Wires everywhere

Awesome! I’m about to decorate my house after the ex-hoarder with no taste moved out. He wouldn’t let me have art up without whingeing about it so I didn’t have it. Now it’s going up and I’m ecstatic looking at it.

You are a delightful storyteller, Ms. Winkler. 👏
guys she's right about the rug.
Girlll i was lately in a bachelor apartment and i must say that one kiss was too much for that hell of a mess…
The energy in this video is the best thing I've ever experienced. Caroline, you are an absolute gem.
Also, this is how I end up talking to people at literally every work meeting. LOLOLOLOL.
Brown is a good color!! Chocolate, coffee, leather. all the woods are all great brown things. I enjoyed the rest of the screaming though.
I am married to my Browns as well, but on some level, I know that I need to start drawing divorce papers
Brown is great, but a space needs more pop of color beyond brown. I started my space super minimalistic to sort of start with a blank canvas, but now I def need some brighter fun colors mixed in
Just not for a bath mat...
I love browns and tans but like reddish toned , such a good base for so many other colors
Brown is good for your neutral base but needs to be surrounded by color to be balanced.
*You talking about hiding the lotion.*
Me (yelling at the screen): Put the lotion in the basket!
Also as a someone who is a former actor that lives in Ohio, just feel like I relate a lot to most of your videos.

Do it 😈
As a woman, yes, Caroline, thank you! And you, boys, listen to her.
When you invite me to your home, I don’t want to feel like it’s a party space or just a place where you sleep. I want to feel comfortable there, I want to feel like it’s nice to spend some time with you there.
So, listen to her, Boys, thank you!

I cannot do this new editing style. It distracts from the integrity of the content. YOU ARE ENOUGH, CAROLINE!!!
Lol, this is taking me back to my boyfriend's (now my husband's) bachelor pad when we were first dating. It never occurred to him until I pointed out that everything was brown, red, and black, including a huge slouchy black leather couch and cowhide bar stools.
