Go for a walk on a first date! Highly recommended 👌 No shouting over crowded restaurant/bar, no awkward 'how much eye contact'! Less intimidating to have a chat without being watched all the time. If it goes well you can always grab a food or beverages after the walk. If it goes badly, at least you got your steps in 😅
I know I’m late but as a dude a girl told me she wished I had asked her out for walk instead of dinner - I felt like I was a dumbass for not thinking about it. I didn’t work out at all but gotta plus one this suggestion.
Is it possible to sit down, order drinks and then casually just say, “the bill paying part of these things always stresses me out- can we just agree now to split the bill?” 😂 Honestly a genuine moment like that can be a cute ice breaker I think.
This is an amazing idea and I think most guys don't care nearly as much as Caroline. I think the rule is normally "if I ask you out then I pay" and if you're looking for a more traditional person then you should insist. Frankly if she made such a big deal out of this tiny interaction it's a giant red flag and I would move on. But from a guy's perspective I can't read your mind so a straight-forward conversation would be wonderful. And in regards to being "used for money" I couldn't care less. Again, if I invited you I am just happy to enjoy your company and if it goes nowhere then it's not a big deal.

Though she added a good deal of “dramatic effect” to the “who pays” monologue, it was by way of expressing how uncomfortable women are with how we’re perceived. This is exacerbated by the scenario having occurred multiple times in a row. I don’t see this as a ‘red flag’ for two reasons: First: These concerns reflect someone who CARES about a guy’s feelings (versus making a mountain out of a molehill) and Second: I very much relate to the discomfort. If we try to get a feel for how tight a date’s budget might be (i.e. how big an impact springing for the date will have) - then we might come off as ‘only interested in income.’ It’s just so frustrating ...it can be very difficult when you’re sensitive and trying your best to be fair and do the right thing. 🤷🏻♀️

Yes, those creeps are everywhere and have turned violent so many times so there are plenty of reasons why a woman might insist on paying her share. I've also had guy friends tell me themselves about no longer wanting to date because they're expected to pay and wonder if women just went out with them for some free food or drinks meanwhile those same friends and others also complained about if she insisted on paying her share. Like, guys talk to women too and we hear it from both sides-the guys we go out on dates with and the guy friends.
I figured it out: Coffee first dates only. It has a built-in time limit (no one drinks three coffees like you might a cocktail), you keep your wits about you, AND it’s cheap. Plus if you get there first, you just buy the coffee and wait. Done and done. This saved me when I was doing all the app dating 🎉
DATE IDEA: bring the guys to Luke's workshop to help make more honey pots. If the date doesn't go well, at least you got some free labor out of each guy 😅

This is why I love museum dates! I live in the DC area too and there are so many wonderful, free museums to visit. You get your walk in, there are exhibits to talk about to keep the conversation going, and no bill at the end!
Same. Lived in Northern Virginia for over 40 years, only recently moved to the eastern coast of Virginia. DC has so many things to do on any date! Between the museums & the arts it's amazing. Now the canal ride has opened and mozzie season is dying down, that's a fun thing to do, as well. The honey pots are lovely! I'd get one but I have 3 other types already. Maybe I'll give them away 😉

My boyfriend and I went on our first date on a walk. He surprised me with Starbucks and we already had an idea of what drinks and foods we liked from talking weeks before we meet. He knew I didn’t eat gluten or dairy and I’m deathly allergic to hazel nuts. Our next few dates we cooked for each other foods that we had said we liked or wanted to try and or brought take out and did lunch at the park. Let me tell you how organic and romantic it was. The meal felt special and for us. Three years later we are still going strong and he is amazing with my son, too. I say, go on the walk and both bring your coffee or whatever and enjoy the moment shared and if that doesn’t feel right, trust your gut!
I did this every first date. It worked great. I was looking for a 50/50 partner scenario so I think it weeded out some of the dudes that could not handle that but never created an awkward scenario for me.

Honestly my dad has walking dates and it’s great. He does a lot of outdoor activities so if the person refuses and says she is not really into outdoor stuff it helps him know if it could be a good match or not !

At my age, you are subject to ridiculous stories-recently I was told that his "PAST THREE girlfriends were in their early forties." Why do I care? We both belong to the same country club; we played only 9 holes (I wisely wouldn't commit to 18!) and I declined getting a cocktail afterwards for fear of more fascinating girlfriend/ex-wife stories! He told mutual friends that introduced us that it seems I "didn't enjoy him"-Good Read! When I see him at the club, he is always alone, apparently his program is not working. I always plan ahead for the quick "out" to freedom-to minimize wasted time........NEXT!
Paying for your own drinks/food is the norm in Sweden and it's awesome tbh. You spend as much as you can afford/want to spend on a date, no one feels like they've been used or like they owe something, and there's no discussions about who's paying :) Also: there is in my experience no date debrief among guys. Most of the time we won't even say we've been on a date haha
Yes! Among guys I know, there's no or barely any date debrief. "it was ok" or "she's nice" or "nah" being about the scope of it. Certainly nothing like what women get into with analysing the details.

We DO generally have very clean, modern and well kept public restrooms and biking, are you kidding me (?), we ride bikes like there's no tomorrow. (Didn't own a car until my 30's, before that bike only. Used public transport only when living in Stockholm (also very good). The infrastructure for bike riding is very well planned with special bike roads, bridges and lanes. It's standard in all cities/towns. Grew up biking all year round. (Yes, even through serious northern winters. They plow the bike roads every night.)

@@Caroline_Winkler I only do walks on a first date. Not only this issue won't come up, awkward pauses aren't that awkward when you're walking, I don't feel forced to hold eye contact constantly and you can tell a lot by the way someone walks, too.

I trained in neurosciences and I’m a medical doctor plus philosopher. Try not to get caught up in the whole ‘neurodivergent’ label. Very Brian is unique and each being individuates developing different parts of their brains with different skills, talents and passions. A label is just another way to try to fit into a box which would never fully encompass yours or any other humans potential anyways. ✌🏽🥂

After a lifetime of being called ‘weird,’ ‘awkward,’ ‘too much’, ‘too sensitive,’ ‘nerdy,’ and ‘you’re not like us’ - all hurtful ‘labels’ - it’s been lovely & liberating to now understand myself & how my brain works. I laughed so hard when you started raging about the insane time investment no woman would go through to get a free meal 😂😂😂 I once was accused by a man for using dates to get a free coffee. Even selling your stuff online is probably giving you a higher hourly wage than going on dates for a free coffee that costs like 3 bucks. I am totally okay with splitting the bills. I only let men pay if I can picture a second date with them. I don't want anyone to feel used. I am an adult, I can pay for my drink. Loved dating during the pandemic, everything was closed so the only thing you could do for dating was going on walks. Met my partner during this time, he got us two lemonades at a kiosk. I let him pay for the drinks. We moved in together last year :)

Personally, I’m fine with letting a man pay. That being said, I’d prefer men to tell me before (“What about I invite you for dinner at…?”). But the good thing about letting men pay, you can immediately see if you should stop dating them if they act like they expect something in return. 45yo single divorced father of 13yo who is terrified of dating again. last girl I was with I knew for years and turned out to be a horrible partner like my ex-wife. She was very mean to my daughter and jealous of our relationship. So I am very picky about bringing anyone into my inner circle and around my daughter. I'm also old enough to be Caroline's mother, but I think there are actually quite a lot of us in this demographic who love Caroline's videos. What a gift she has to be able to reach such a varied audience.
I'm 52 this year and so enjoy Caroline's content, because she's so down to earth and real. I remember meeting someone after weeks of messages and oh, the letdown! So I really relate to her comments around 16:00. Even though I am in a happy, settled relationship now.
I remember going to high school with Alex Anele. (From your vid shown on this video:) She was an amazing artist when we had classes together and overall just such a level headed person (totally makes sense she’s a makeup artist now). So much fun. Loved her style, and LOVE your style with interior design and just overall how you carry yourself whilst navigating around this crazy planet of people we interact with.
As an Italian I melted at "dal panettiere". To me seeing foreign speakers make baby steps into learning my native language is akin to watching puppy videos. (Especially if those foreign speakers are creating some of my favourite content on youtube/spotify - cheesy, but true)
I'm quite a bit older than you, but found myself divorced in my early thirties, just when internet dating was hitting its stride. I agree with you 100% and figured out early in the online dating process that meeting for a walk on the beach (our beaches are comfortably crowded all year long so it was as safe as could be expected when meeting a stranger) was the best date and the best way to get to know a guy and see if there was anything there.
This is exactly why I prefer to meet people and get to know them organically, which has been harder the last few years. Dates feel inauthentic and are way too much pressure to perform a certain way or follow a bunch of rules that people don't agree on. But if someone's ego is bruised because you offer to split or pay the entire bill or if they assume you're using them then they have just outed themselves as someone who is immature and too insecure for the likes of you! I'm a big fan of being upfront and communicative. And it scares some away. And yes, walks are the best!

A lot of men expect that one woman’s standards is every woman’s standards or lack of standards. Instead just ask that individual person what their expectations are. This should be part of the pre-date conversation. And no one should be shamed for their expectations

Also, as for dates , back when I dated, I liked to do outdoor activities with them. Kayak, bike rides, picnic, maybe? For picnic, you can both bring food. I think it makes it less awkward when there's something to do, or a goal.

Same. Lived in Northern Virginia for over 40 years, only recently moved to the eastern coast of Virginia. DC has so many things to do on any date! Between the museums & the arts it's amazing. My boyfriend and I went on our first date on a walk. He surprised me with Starbucks and we already had an idea of what drinks and foods we liked from talking weeks before we meet. He knew I didn’t eat gluten or dairy and I’m deathly allergic to hazel nuts. Our next few dates we cooked for each other foods that we had said we liked or wanted to try and or brought take out and did lunch at the park. Let me tell you how organic and romantic it was. The meal felt special and for us. Three years later we are still going strong and he is amazing with my son, too. I say, go on the walk and both bring your coffee or whatever and enjoy the moment shared and if that doesn’t feel right, trust your gut!

Thank you Caroline! I ALWAYS PAY MY OWN BILL-I am a 65 year old woman and this "dance" has been going on for decades! At my age, you are subject to ridiculous stories-recently I was told that his "PAST THREE girlfriends were in their early forties." Why do I care? We both belong to the same country club; we played only 9 holes (I wisely wouldn't commit to 18!) and I declined getting a cocktail afterwards for fear of more fascinating girlfriend/ex-wife stories! He told mutual friends that introduced us that it seems I "didn't enjoy him"-Good Read! When I see him at the club, he is always alone, apparently his program is not working. I always plan ahead for the quick "out" to freedom-to minimize wasted time........NEXT!

Paying for your own drinks/food is the norm in Sweden and it's awesome tbh. You spend as much as you can afford/want to spend on a date, no one feels like they've been used or like they owe something, and there's no discussions about who's paying :)
Also: there is in my experience no date debrief among guys. Most of the time we won't even say we've been on a date haha

We DO generally have very clean, modern and well kept public restrooms and biking, are you kidding me (?), we ride bikes like there's no tomorrow. (Didn't own a car until my 30's, before that bike only. Used public transport only when living in Stockholm (also very good). The infrastructure for bike riding is very well planned with special bike roads, bridges and lanes. It's standard in all cities/towns. Grew up biking all year round. (Yes, even through serious northern winters. They plow the bike roads every night.)

I trained in neurosciences and I’m a medical doctor plus philosopher. Try not to get caught up in the whole ‘neurodivergent’ label. Very Brian is unique and each being individuates developing different parts of their brains with different skills, talents and passions. A label is just another way to try to fit into a box which would never fully encompass yours or any other humans potential anyways. ✌🏽🥂

45yo single divorced father of 13yo who is terrified of dating again. last girl I was with I knew for years and turned out to be a horrible partner like my ex-wife. I'm 52 this year and so enjoy Caroline's content, because she's so down to earth and real. I remember meeting someone after weeks of messages and oh, the letdown! So I really relate to her comments around 16:00. Even though I am in a happy, settled relationship now.
I remember going to high school with Alex Anele. (From your vid shown on this video:) She was an amazing artist when we had classes together and overall just such a level headed person (totally makes sense she’s a makeup artist now). So much fun. Loved her style, and LOVE your style with interior design and just overall how you carry yourself whilst navigating around this crazy planet of people we interact with.

I'm quite a bit older than you, but found myself divorced in my early thirties, just when internet dating was hitting its stride. I agree with you 100% and figured out early in the online dating process that meeting for a walk on the beach (our beaches are comfortably crowded all year long so it was as safe as could be expected when meeting a stranger) was the best date and the best way to get to know a guy and see if there was anything there.
This is exactly why I prefer to meet people and get to know them organically, which has been harder the last few years. Dates feel inauthentic and are way too much pressure to perform a certain way or follow a bunch of rules that people don't agree on. But if someone's ego is bruised because you offer to split or pay the entire bill or if they assume you're using them then they have just outed themselves as someone who is immature and too insecure for the likes of you! I'm a big fan of being upfront and communicative. And it scares some away. And yes, walks are the best!

I really appreciate that you are open about changing your mind with decor. I always feel so bad when I no longer like something but I'm trying to not be emotional about it and just make the change.
Also, as for dates , back when I dated, I liked to do outdoor activities with them. Kayak, bike rides, picnic, maybe? For picnic, you can both bring food. I think it makes it less awkward when there's something to do, or a goal.
