    Awesome. We walked the short Balsam Nature Trail this past weekend. What an amazing hike!

    Great video. My brother and I are going out to do the 11-mile trail to Mt Mitchell, then doing this one the next day. Thank you for showing that compsite!

    Thanks for posting this. We’re hitting it in April. Two suggestions for you: 1). Ultimate Direction ultra runner vests, which we found more comfortable than packs and MUCH lighter & balanced. 2). trekking poles.

      Thanks for the tips. I had recently bought my daughter an ultra runner vest - and we have just bought some trekking poles. We evidently thought your suggestion were SPOT ON! Thanks for the comment. I hope you enjoy Mount Mitchell in April. I recommend you check out the Deep Gap Trail, too: ua-cam.com/video/1803DdgKXtA/v-deo.html

    Couple of questions: Did you have to pay a parking fee, and what time does it open? I’m going to hike this soon and I’d like to get there early

    Hey there--- thanks for this video.. I am hiking this on may 25th. I am trying to get started by noon... I am travelling from Ohio. If I decided to camp at that site or further up... hammock friendly?

    I just hiked this and it was brutal
    Coming down I thought was more challenging simply because how fatigued my legs were. Apparently I missed a black bear and her cubs on the trail by 30 minutes

      A bear and her cubs, huh? What's funny is that we were not too far from there ourselves. We hiked the Deep Gap Trail (aka Black Mountain Crest) this past weekend. This hike is shorter, but it is rugged and technical - and will wear you out. You have to watch your step 90% of the time. But we love it. Check it out: ua-cam.com/video/1803DdgKXtA/v-deo.html. Additionally, we understand about fatigue and the hike down. We actually prefer a tough hike up than a tough hike down. We feel there is less risk of injury going up. Thanks for leaving the comment!

      I'm sure you will love it. I don't know the plans for your trip, but I'm wondering if you would consider some of the other nearby hikes. We have videos on the top hikes near Boone and Asheville. If you're looking for ideas, you should check them out. Grandfather mountain is a great destination. Hope you have fun!

    She made it look easy not even breathing hard

      Yeah. She needs to make it look a little harder - or people will get the wrong impression about the difficulty of the hike. She just ran her first marathon in November, so she has the endurance. Needless to say, I'm proud of her. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

    How long did it take round trip ?

    • @criscale3667
      @criscale3667  Рік тому +3

      Of course, this depends on your ability. In this video, my daughter and I logged 6.5 hours of moving time but had an additional 45 minutes of rest time and taking in the scenery at the top. I would set aside 7.5+ hours round trip. It's one of the longest, constant uphill climbs in the East. Thanks for your question - and good luck if you decide to tackle this one.
