Beautiful trail. Thank you for sharing. How about one in/around the Cascades next? Perhaps Mt Thielsen, Mt McLaughlin or Diamond Peak? Not the tallest by any stretch, but respectable hikes.
@@Hikingguy I did the Appalachian Trail in the 90s, so I have a soft spot in my heart for Katahdin in Maine. Is Florida even on your list? It’s pretty flat, but beautiful!
Every time I see you walking ahead of the camera I think of you doubling back just to film that for us - thanks for making these videos engaging as always!
Ive lived here in NC since 95, never been to Mt. Mitchell. It was on my radar for this fall and I come across your video and now logistics with a stay at the campground and a pick up after completion by family makes this an easy weekend mark off my list! Thanks for making this video!! Subscribed!
Pisgah is my stomping grounds. Hundreds of hikes and volunteer hours. That said I still have not hiked mt. mitchell. The one time I tried it was closed (January weather). Will do so soon. Thanks for the video.
Wow! I was limited with time when I was there last year so I had to drive up but it was so foggy and I spent most of the time in the clouds. The panoramic you had is so amazing and I can't wait to go back and see them!
Mount Mitchell is definitely a surprisingly rugged hike. I’ve summited Mitchell a couple of time is the past few years and it’s always an enjoyable and challenging hike. Especially the descent, you really need to pay attention to footing as it is very easy to roll an ankle. Personally, I prefer high top hikers for this one. Thanks for the video breakdown on this one. I don’t believe there are any good Mitchell hike breakdowns out there besides this one.
Can’t believe I live in North Carolina and didn’t know about the Carolina Mountain Club! 😮 This is one of my favorite hikes! Thanks for showcasing my neck of the woods! You shared a lot of information I didn’t know about this trail, and I’ve hiked it several times. I love how you pronounced Buncombe so properly! Locals say BUNK-em and barely pronounce the k sound.
Wow, what an incredible guide to hiking Mt Mitchell! The detailed information and tips make it so much easier to plan this challenging hike. The variety of natural features and the stunning views from the summit sound absolutely amazing. Thanks for sharing such a comprehensive and easy-to-understand guide. This definitely motivates me to take on the highest point east of the Mississippi. Great work! Cheers, Simon - Tales From Abroad
I loved this video and am also thrilled you changed your pronunciation of Appalachian. Thank you! Looking forward to your next adventures. I’m personally interested in when you will hike to Clingmans Dome and what route you will take. There are so many options for starting points from easy to very difficult.
Awesome video! I think I might have done this trail around the same time as you: my trip report for completing the hike on June 22, 2024: Arrived at 9:15 am, Sat, June 22. Our group (2 cars) took the last couple parking spots on trailhead and then started the hike. Recommend arriving before 8:30 am if you want to for sure guarantee a parking spot on Saturday. Make sure you have Alltrails (or whatever GPX download) map downloaded beforehand because you will not have any data coverage from the base until like the last 1 mile of the uphill portion of the trail. Difficult hike; trekking poles definitely recommended! Loads of elevation gain, long trail, and not many views until you hit near the summit of Mount Mitchell State Park and the summit of Mount Mitchell.
Great guide as always. Not sure I'll ever get out there since I am a San Diego girl. I do have kids that live in the Nashville area. I'll be interested to know what peak you will hike in Tennessee.
Another High Point is Black Elk Peak in SD. The State High point. I’m not sure if it farther East than the one you show in Colorado. It is over 7,000 ft. SD has 8 peaks over 7,000 ft that I recently bike packed to all of them. It’s called the 8 over 7. 7,244 ft high.
Thank you for this incredibly informative video. I am doing this hike in 2 days. Just finished the Boulevard Trail to Mt LeConte last month. How long did the up and back take you for Mitchell? Is there any comparison to hiking LeConte vs Mitchell? Thank you.
Last time I was at Mt. Mitchell in the 70,s , I’ll never forget! The park ranger just shot a black bear 🐻 and they were rolling it down from the observation tower. Black bears are there I’m sure still?
Which high point should I hit next?
Am I understanding correctly that you are looking for 50 high points for each state (2500 total)?
Mt. Washington (in the Whites) or Mt Katahdin :-)
Beautiful trail. Thank you for sharing. How about one in/around the Cascades next? Perhaps Mt Thielsen, Mt McLaughlin or Diamond Peak? Not the tallest by any stretch, but respectable hikes.
@michaelatherton826 Yes to both but starting this all from scratch, so stay tuned for those hikes...

I enjoy your style with a combination of voiceovers and "live" talking.

Awesome, that's great, and the camp is nice. Haven't stayed there but have been through it a few times. Thanks for the sub!
Thank you for all the info. 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Now you gotta try the 11 mile Black Mountain Crest trail up to the top of Mitchell 🤙🏻 solid content as always 🤙🏻

Thank you! I just found your channel but you’ve found a lifelong subscriber! I’m getting into hiking and I’m so excited

Thank you!
I'm doing a GC R2River in Oct. and use Mt. Mitchell trail (top to bottom to top) as one of my local trainers.
Good job
I did this hike during October and it was absolutely perfect between the foliage and the weather.

These aer going to be awsome !
One of my favorite hikes.
You can get some extra mileage by continuing on to Mt Craig and Big Tom. Three 6ers and adds about 2-3 miles.

Do the Art Loeb trail if you haven't yet. Or Cataloochee Divide.
Great video. It’s a challenging hike for me. The Black Mountain Crest Trail should be done too. It’s an amazing challenge too.
Off trail plane crash sites are present there as well. Bellanca Viking that went down & a WW2 DC10

It's a similar hike but Leconte has more views and is overall nicer. Took about 5 hours total
The highest peak east of the Mississippi is lower in elevation than where I live? That's crazy!
Pursuits treating you well?
Yup still good - ua-cam.com/video/PuHEqzxXqbQ/v-deo.html

Yea still bears, I've seen plenty over the years around here but none on this trip though. Just bugs and squirrels...
A little surprised it's not a National Park. I guess locals can accomplish a lot.
It's a state park surrounded by a national forest.
No way to ruin a mountain better than by building a road to the top. Same with Mt. Washington in NH.
About how long would it take an average hiker to make this one way up?
We hiked this to summit in about 4:10 according to my tracker app from 2016 when we were in our mid to late 50’s. I’d say we’re average hikers. 😊🤷🏻♀️
3-4 hours
Wait until he goes to Rhode Island.
