We are Cris and Cale - and we would like to share our personal travel experiences and perspectives. We typically have two objectives: find outdoor adventures and enjoy local, creative cuisine. We are not professional travelers. Sometimes joined by our two dogs and four children (ranging from an early teen to young adults), we strive to be relatable and have a thirst for adventure that generates weekly content.
Our activities are not extreme, but are engaging and often challenging as we immerse ourselves in nature, God’s artwork. Just about anyone can do what we do, but every once in a while we get pushed a little beyond our own comfort zone.
In addition to loving the outdoors, we also love to cook & eat. So when we travel we seek out culinary destinations that showcase ethnic foods, creative fare or just darn good regional dishes.
Subscribe and join us for food & fun we can experience together. And maybe these videos will inspire you to find your own brand of adventure.

John Rock Trail | Moderate Hike | Pisgah National Forest | Near Brevard, North Carolina
Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, near the town of Brevard, is John Rock. The hike to John Rock is a favorite among locals as it is moderate in effort but has breathtaking views of the valley below as well as the nearby Looking Glass Rock. Throw in several stream crossings, a small waterfall and tranquil meadows - and you have a hike that is sure to satisfy - in any season. The trail starts at the Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education. It takes hikers along Cat Gap Loop before reaching the 3,320 foot summit of John Rock, a mountain named for the Civilian Conservation Corps camp that was established here to improve America's parks during the Great Depression.

Calloway Peak Daniel Boone Scout Trail | Fall Hike | Grandfather Mountain State Park, North Carolina

This is one of the best fall hikes in the southeast! The foliage is breathtaking. Our destination is the highest peak of the Blue Ridge Escarpment, the infamous Calloway Peak of Grandfather Mountain. The Daniel Boone Scout Trail is the most direct route to this impressive 5,946 foot summit, a slightly less aggressive climb than the Profile Trail and less technical than the Grandfather Trail. On an early spring morning, I headed to the locally famous Tom’s Thumb Trail. It is Scottsdale’s top hike - and consistently listed as one of the top 10 hikes in the entire state. The trail has a smooth gravel surface and good signage to keep you on track. There are indeed spots with a significant incline, but the trail delivers excellent views as well as eye catching rock formations. The top f...

Short Asheville Day Hikes | Top 5 Best Trails | North Carolina | Easy to Moderate | Summits & Falls
Thank you for this video. I am on a journey to find myself and what truly makes me happy. I have found that hiking and just being out in nature is what brings me happiness within myself. I look forward to hiking all 5 of these trails and it’s exciting to see what I have to look forward too.
I remember in the south growing up, one would refer to the tea as "iced tea"..the only time it was differently referred was to request unsweet.
My friend and I just attempted this hike last weekend. There was steady snow the entire way leading up to over 9 1/2 inches worth up near the top. We ended up sliding down a majority of the descent and while i would like to attempt to do this hike again. I will not be doing it in winter conditions again as it made an already strenuous hike so much more difficult and risky.
So beautiful, America with many beautiful scenes, worth visiting and experiencing.
Most people making videos are not experts, and we should give them credit for their time and efforts and for at least passing on info and for showing the area.
I did this yesterday, 1/23/25. I went up shining creek and down old but. I don’t know what sadist decided to build a trail there but I better not find him! Descending it is probably harder than climbing it.
No knife edge from Baxter peak to Pamola, from Chimney Pond? Can’t question the five though.
I think I’ll be fine going up, however the descent is a diff story
Been a while since I did this. I'm so out of shape. Going next week with my son. Hope I make it. Thanks for the video.
Please dont make a video about best hikes if you havent been to Baxter State Park, Maine or the Adirondacks of NY. Because both are better than anything on this list.
🦋❤️
Thanks for showcasing our hometown! ❤ 🌄🏞🛶🍲 😊 Chip & Joe's has the BEST cake in the valley, they sell out quickly!
Great video. I’m planning a day hike soon.
Food terminal try it
Hey, I’m a native North Carolina raised man, you got it wrong. Eastern is vinegar based, and western is mayonnaise based. If your going to talk about Barbecue get it right. You can’t just put a few places in a list . There are a lot of good places.
The rectangular "table" noted at 8:14 is the remnants of the foundation of the fire tower that was once on top of Table Rock. I don't remember when it was removed, some time in the 1980's I think. I remember it as late as the last of the 1970's but I don't think it was in use much after that. It's difficult to say just which trail in Linville Gorge is the steepest, they all feel straight up as some point in the hike. Spence Ridge, Pine Gap, Cabin and Pinchin are all trails into or out of the Gorge and you cross an escarpment on them. The hike up Wolf Pit Trail to the top of Shortoff Mtn has a few steep areas but the "backside" trail from the river up to Shortoff is unrelenting from start to finish. In my opinion, the view from Shortoff is the best in the Gorge. You look North and see the Chimneys, Table Rock and Hawksbill, look South and East down on Lake James. In the winter on the cliffs, the snow goes up instead of down from the winds blowing against the cliffs. It's unnerving in the dark when you shine your flashlight off the cliff and see nothing but the snow going vertically.
Woody ridge is almost 3000-foot gain and is 3+ miles. It was #1 hardest I have done in NC. I think your video describes it as 1/2-mile 1010 feet. Are you just talking about part for the trail?
These are all pretty much the most touristy (hence pricey) restaurants in Savannah. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but they're not necessarily where the locals eat.
yeah these trails are amazing
fun fact: its not 3000 feet of elevation gain since you are starting at 2400 and going upto 6200. (its more like 3800) also thats an insanely high quality video.
The dog and I did woody ridge as the first trail we did together talk about getting our butt kicked.
I did Old Rag when I was 64 --tough hike
Local Roots has gone out of business.
I was born and raised in Las Cruces, I’ve eaten ate just about every restaurant in the video and some new ones that I have not, so when I go home to visit the family I will definitely stop for a bite at the new restaurants. That was a fun video to watch it brought back so many great memories of FOOD, FAMILY, and the FARM. I feel so blessed to call LAS CRUCES…..HOME!!
Hey from the South Carolina Coast. We live about 1 hour north of Chucktown. We go down about once a month. We always stay at the Charleston Place. First, Husk and Fig are amazing. Our go too's are SNOB, High Cotton, Halls Chop House, Grill 225, Hanks Seafood, Palmetto Grill. We always do Sunday Brunch at Poogans Porch. We absolutely love Chucktown, so much to do, so much to eat and drink. Great vid guys
The best views aren't always from the highest spot , towereing over everything else . The views don't get any better than Scout Lookout and Canyon Overlook . No need to hike all the way to Observation Point when the best part of that trail is closed down . Know your own limits and do Angels Landing if you have the ability , if not , don't worry about it , lot's to see in Zion .
The Chimneys is such a cool place. Table Rock gets all the attention but The Chimneys is SO fun to explore.
I've had my eye on going there. I'm wondering what month of the year were you guys there?
We are blessed to live 10 min from the swift run gap entrance of SNP. My son and i have been hiking all up and down SNP and we are saving Old Rag for this month because of the winter scenery. I am so glad i came across your video. We now will have a better idea of the gear to bring with us as well. I recommend Bearfence Mountain rock scramble as well. Its quite the scramble as well. Btw, love your videos!
Green chile...roasted. The smell of it wafting from the roasters outside the grocery stores. Heaven.
Stameys always surprises me when it’s on these lists. It’s totally overrated.
Beautiful vistas
Muchas gracias for that balious info. amigo, on our next trip to Guatemala and Mexico, we will visit Tulum and enjoy all that delicious food, muchas gracias again.
There were 32 Bridges and Trestles between Whitetop and Damascus. The floods from Hurricane Helene destroyed 31 of them. It will be years before that part of the trail will be back in service. If ever.
Excellent restaurant reviews
I've done grandfather from both the profile trail and the daniel boone fork parking trailhead along the BRP and thought the latter was much harder. Woody Ridge trail was spot on and I would actually put the Colbert Ridge trail above a number of these choices.
I am going there next weekend.... Wish me luck
Good luck! I heard Moon River is perm closed, so maybe yoylll be safe from that one! Others are fair game!
No Thank You
Bridges just caught on fire last week. Luckily just the smoking area got ruined so will be back going soon. I’m from Shelby and ate at both bridges bbqs (the both learned from same pit master but aren’t related oddly enough) my whole life. I just thought that was normal bbq then see it pop up on national lists. I’m like “really y’all think it’s special?”
I used to really enjoy Basics but the last several times I have eaten here, the food has made me really sick. Today, I had some flounder and my stomach has been upset. I am not so sure that their food handling practices are the best.
This trail looks sick
This trail is in montreat wilderness area not Pisgah national forest. I have hiked all the trails in Montreat so many times I have lost count .l live right off flat creek which runs through Montreat. The trails here are so beautiful. Walkers Knob is a awesome view. Enjoy your stay in beautiful Black Mt. Be safe and spread the love ❤
We stayed at the Planter;s Inn on Reynold's Square and that place is definitely Haunted, but in a Friendly Southern Hospitality way. Not Scary, just Bizarre. I was downstairs at the little Soiree going on and decided I neeed something upstairs and when I put the Key Ticket into the Door I heard this Woman's voice say "Who is it?" and I knew there was no one in the room, I walked down the Hall and the next room was like 20 Feet away, Just a really strange feeling. But I am strange myself so...
Awesome video! Gotta ask..What did you think about the Specialized Roll bikes? What did you like or not like about them? Were they comfortable to ride for the full 30 + miles? I was considering getting a bike want wanted to know what your experience was.
I used to be a waiter at the spotted dog , 20 years ago. If you live in that town, and knew the locals.. There were some great parties we have in the mountains. Also, when you work in the restaurants in that town. If you go someplace else there you get a local discount and they hook you up. the whiptail has the best burgers. The bitten spur has the best shrimp tacos. This is 20 years ago.
Crag gloves, SMALL back packs. Would have made it a lot easier. Great job and video! Thx
And to think you completely missed Baldinos Giant Jersey Subs???
Im calling the police
For Beehive loop how long is it? Cause Google says 1 mile but you guys have backpacks on so I’m confused
