Pete, agreed, picking a spot in the distance and not taking your eye off it is the key. I used to look down at my tracks only, but now I concentrate on a knot or discoloration between fence pickets to determine my lines. I occasionally will glance down, but for the most part, my head is straight up looking off in the distance. I have 11,000 sq ft.
I've been push mowing for years now and definitely struggle with mowing straight lines in the larger lawns. Tested this yesterday and totally stepped up my game! Thanks for the great content Pete!
I worked in a golf course from 18-21 years old, that was exactly how I went about mowing greens and Fairways. Start from the shortest point, straight abs it dictates the rest of your stripes. Pete, I love your videos man, God Bless you and everyone reading.
Your yard looks great Pete. I do the opposite, I find the longest point A to B and focus on something at the other end, and that's my starting point. Maybe not for everyone, but that works for me and I have a BIG yard - laser straight.
I’ve been doing it wrong the whole time. I tried finding the longest section to start my first line rather than the shortest. Gonna have to give the shortest section a try. Thanks for sharing Pete.
On one part of my yard that has several trees I use my 22 inch walk behind. I make my stripes perfectly straight through all of the tree rings and across a ditch with a different slope on either side. You really learn to make straight lines mowing across a ditch at a diagonal. No one can figure out how I do it🤣
I've been considering a scag push mower but I haven't seen very many professionals give a review on the mower I know they have made some changes for the 2022 models. Great video May God bless you and your family and business.
I’ve got 90 hours on my scag SFC and I’m currently having the clutch replaced for the 3rd time. I’ll be selling it after this. I love every other aspect of the mower. I do mulch a lot but this shouldn’t be an issue
Kentucky Bluegrass is probably my favorite grass type in terms of just looks and feel. Too bad I live in south Louisiana and I have to settle on hybrid Bermuda. lol
try mowing on shrooms...I did it once when I was a kid with my grandpa watching me, not one straight line lol. Things are different these days, and I love your channel. Sub'd
Pete, any suggestions for a home DIY push mower for TTTF at 3.75-4”. I’ve been reading about the Timemaster but not sure if I have storage or a need for a 30” deck. I’m mowing about 8500sqft
Hey Pete kind of off subject for this video but I need some help. I had to cut a big maple tree down back in November. I had the stump ground up but now I need to plant some seed and I don’t know if I should do it now or wait till fall. Oh, and it’s in my front yard😤🤦🏾.
Thanks Pete for the tips! Does this same principal apply to reel mowing, when you don’t have tires and it’s usually mowed at low heights? Does your sunglasses also help?
Hi Pete, I do the same thing. I follow my tire tracks, but I've noticed by doing this I'm starting to get tire grooves in my lawn. I use my 30" Toro to cut my grass. Is there away to get rid of these grooves or prevent them. Thanks for any solution you might have.
Pete, you mentioned that you finish up the uncut grass by going around the edges at the end with the mower to clean up. I have a yard with sculptured natural areas and that’s what I do. The problem I have is the mower tires have killed the grass where I follow the contours every time I mow. I change up the stripe direction every cut but I need to follow the contours for the final lap. Any suggestions?
Good to know I'm doing it the best way. My first pass I line up the middle of the mower with an object off in the distance on the other end, I stare at it and walk super slow for the first pass and don't take my eyes off it, when I get to the other end I look back and it's a perfect line, then just follow tire tracks from there on out.
I normally mow with my Toro zero turn. Its a residential model so lighter weight than the commercial mowers BUT still pretty heavy especially when I am riding on it since I am 6'6" and 270lbs. I hate the ruts it can cause if I am not careful to mow on dry days and always vary my path. up/down, then left/right, then diagonal one way then the other. I also work in a 'circular' pattern where I just start at the outside and mow clockwise (next time counter clockwise)until I mow the center. I wanted to get a lighter mower and my brother in law was giving away a Toro Turfmaster commercial 30inch push mower. I love it. Agree i have to pay close attention to keep straight lines though. I'm still getting used to it. And the turfmaster has straight wheels on front. Wish it had casters like the snapper version of that mower (SW15 is the model).
*I don't know if it's because I like the seed so much, or the person, but I just placed another order this morning* 😂 *I appreciate all the content, the tips, and the consistently great product* 😎
It pulls left because the Left side % is higher due to the engine being more on the left.. if u wanna get crazy out mower on scales and add a little weight to right side to be even.. Just like you’d do w a circle track race car !!
that may be part of it, but it's predominantly what's called gyroscopic precession. it's most notable in single engine aircraft and one of the four left turning tendencies of single engine prop planes. kind of weird to think of a mower as a nose down airplane but it works
Man I want to get out and work in the yard but it’s still pretty cold and wet here in NE Ohio and I’ve been fighting an ear infection. Got a few trees I need to cut up especially.
This dude's new KBG looks better than my 7 month old KBG in a cooler climate.. and I did a full reno similar to him, using an elite variety mix of KBG. Either KBG loves the heat and greens up more in it, or I need to put down more liquids ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. That lawn looks amazing!
On flat ground I can get a straight line just by eyeing it. On a hill, that another story. As you work your way down the hill the elevation change screws up your line.
Hey Pete, I’m interested to know if you are liking that Scag 30. I’m having trouble pulling the trigger with it being so new, but need to replace my timemaster with something commercial grade. Would love to hear your feedback.
Hey Pete love the video! Could you do a review video on the Scag some time soon. I got the swivel model and found that it wasn’t the best for my business. Just wondering. Sorry if you already have. Have a blessed day brother!
Hey Pete, how can I stop dogs peeing in my front lawn by the sidewalk, they keep burning the grass in the same proximity, almost every dog in the neighborhood stops there to leak and I am getting tired of all the yellow circles in my nice green lawn
If you want perfect and I mean perfection. Download a up called measure. Hold ya phone and follow the perfect straight lines. If you have time you could do some crazy patterns as you can stop and add lines however you like.
The assembly of the lawn mower could be done without any problems ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxTPN04aT-Qdjr_KS3ql7ng8wnU3wwsCqk also recommend I just puzzled something about the red strange “key”. However, it quickly turned out that this creates a kind of contact bridge between battery packs and lawn mowers. An additional backup as a father of a 1 year old nephew is great!! :-)
3:20 Lawn Ghost
Bah ha ha ha ha ha I just saw that lol
Even the ghost is coming out to check out those lines!

I'm just now starting
That’s a huge lawn! Legend has it he’s still mowing.
I worked in a golf course from 18-21 years old, that was exactly how I went about mowing greens and Fairways. Start from the shortest point, straight abs it dictates the rest of your stripes. Pete, I love your videos man, God Bless you and everyone reading.
Damn, look at that checkerboard across the street 4:32 😲
Always loved your TTTF Pete but your KBG is from another planet 🪐🔥🔥🔥👍💚🦸
Your yard looks great Pete. I do the opposite, I find the longest point A to B and focus on something at the other end, and that's my starting point. Maybe not for everyone, but that works for me and I have a BIG yard - laser straight.
Ole Pete! It’s that tine of year again!
First Aussie 😁. Great job Pete , keeping us on the straight and narrow. 😎
Lol, keep thinking of golden tidbits… mowing therapy does clear the mind and help me focus too!!
That turf is stunning.
I love when I get notified you dropped a video
That light pole is a super handy marker to fix your eyes to for the long stripe. Great content as always brother!
That bluegrass is looking like a new penny this season pete, great job.
I’ve been doing it wrong the whole time. I tried finding the longest section to start my first line rather than the shortest. Gonna have to give the shortest section a try. Thanks for sharing Pete.
Mate your lawn is crazy nice! I’m in the uk and always love watching you videos. Brilliant mate.
I just put down the TTTF i bought from you last fall in an area that died from last year's drought. I'm hopeful

Looks good pete your lines look really good
Love this video Pete!!! I thought I was the only one that struggled with mowing straight lines. 😆
Good tips Pete! Applies to all kinds of mowers! I will be using these tips going forward “because Pete said so!” Thanks!!
My grass is the bomb thanks Pete.💪
Hello everyone good vidéo gci turf
Great video. I watch all your videos. This is EXTRA AWESOME. God Bless!
I've been considering a scag push mower but I haven't seen very many professionals give a review on the mower I know they have made some changes for the 2022 models. Great video May God bless you and your family and business.
I have been doing it wrong the whole time, thank you Pete
Good job Pete iv always struggled with straight line when mowing
Good evening everybody.
I’ve got 90 hours on my scag SFC and I’m currently having the clutch replaced for the 3rd time. I’ll be selling it after this. I love every other aspect of the mower. I do mulch a lot but this shouldn’t be an issue
Pete, thank you for the tip. I was struggling with this
EXCELLENT video! Can I do the lines with my "manual" lawn push reel mover on my small lawn?
Pete, great tip as always.
That KBG is on 🔥🔥🔥
yes sir it is on FIRE right now!
Looks great, I did my yard last fall with blue heat here in rhode Island and it's waking up now and it's 😍
I guess great minds think alike because I started recording this same video during my last mow. You beat me to it on this one 🤣. Spot on info👌🏾🌱.
Kentucky Bluegrass is probably my favorite grass type in terms of just looks and feel. Too bad I live in south Louisiana and I have to settle on hybrid Bermuda. lol
Straight lines are also be achieved when you have a flat yard. With all the bumps on most yards I do, it’s harder, believe me😂😂
Thanks Pete.. good job
Wow. Nice Tip. Love it.
Pete, put down GCI cool blue last Fall and it looks great! Thanks again.
Hey Pete. I live in Florida and looking to use blackjack Bermuda. Does grass height affect striping?
Great video!! I love my Scag FC30, does great for my side care lawn business!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I haven't been able to #GetMyLinesRight all season!
Always appreciate you Pete!!
I appreciate you friend

yes for reel mowing and not sure on the sunglasses...LOL
Around here overhead power/utility line shadows can drive you nuts in the summer😆😆
LOL this is the truth!
So this is how they do the baseball fields . Lol.. Looks good 👍Show us the diamond next.. I’ve tried it, only on carpet. Not perfected yet
I sure will!
Hi Pete, I do the same thing. I follow my tire tracks, but I've noticed by doing this I'm starting to get tire grooves in my lawn. I use my 30" Toro to cut my grass. Is there away to get rid of these grooves or prevent them. Thanks for any solution you might have.
I switch dirrections often to keep the tracks from sticking
I’ve used a string line before like you do with your edges. It works great as well.
Pete, you mentioned that you finish up the uncut grass by going around the edges at the end with the mower to clean up. I have a yard with sculptured natural areas and that’s what I do. The problem I have is the mower tires have killed the grass where I follow the contours every time I mow. What if you offset a few inches to side each time when you do the perimeter . And string trim the actual edge
Good to know I'm doing it the best way. Pete are you running your irrigation yet?
Hey Pete! Do you think the Blue Heat stands a chance in Northern Louisiana (About 35 miles south of Arkansa state line)?
Ask me again in 6 months and I’ll tell you
Pete another good video. What name did you select for the field?
That video is coming soon
How do you like that scag Pete? I use a timemaster now would I see a difference if I used a scag? Thanks Pete👍🏼
I have never personally used a timemaster so I can not compare them honestly
@@GCITurf ok was curious since the scag is so new👍🏼
*I don't know if it's because I like the seed so much, or the person, but I just placed another order this morning* 😂 *I appreciate all the content, the tips, and the consistently great product* 😎
I appreciate you sir!
Great video
Well apparently Pete doesn't hate that scag, still has it.
true this
Mr Pete how low are you mowing? Does the scag 30 mow pretty low?
1.5” that’s as low as the scag will go.
It pulls left because the Left side % is higher due to the engine being more on the left.. if u wanna get crazy out mower on scales and add a little weight to right side to be even.. Just like you’d do w a circle track race car !!

Thank you friend!
I think it’s the varieties in Blue Heat that make it look like this
On flat ground I can get a straight line just by eyeing it. On a hill, that another story. As you work your way down the hill the elevation change screws up your line.
Man how does that scag cut? Is it better than the toro and exmark?
Pete, I'm curious.. In your opinion, what is the main diff between KBG Blue Heat & KBG Midnight ? Thank You Sir.
Midnight is a single variety of kbg.
Blue Heat has 3 varieties of kbg midnight being one of them.
Hey Pete, I’m interested to know if you are liking that Scag 30. I’m having trouble pulling the trigger with it being so new, but need to replace my timemaster with something commercial grade. Would love to hear your feedback.
I’ll try and do a full review very soon
Hey Pete, when you use sand and compost to level, what ratio do you use? 50/50? 60/40? 70/30?
Also what size sand do you use?
50/50. Golf course bunker sand
Pete, whats that big black thing hanging on the back of the mower, a new style striping device? =p
Do you change mowing patterns each mow?
Every 2nd or 3rd mow I change it up
My lines are always jacked up
Hey Pete is that scag worth the money?
I'm sure it helps having a level lawn
Hey Pete love the video! Could you do a review video on the Scag some time soon. I got the swivel model and found that it wasn’t the best for my business. Just wondering. Sorry if you already have. Have a blessed day brother!
I will
Hey Pete, how can I stop dogs peeing in my front lawn by the sidewalk, they keep burning the grass in the same proximity, almost every dog in the neighborhood stops there to leak and I am getting tired of all the yellow circles in my nice green lawn
Pete I am from KY and this doesn't look like KY Bluegrass?
Its 100% KBG you can read about it here - gciturfacademy.com/collections/gci-grass-seed/products/gci-turf-blue-heat-grass-seed
ther ya go... @@GCITurf

There is a little dark mark on the left side of this video.. hope it’s just a dirty lens.
probably so. i will check that out. Thanks!
Look great just wondering how many foot steps you took after you got done mowing that huge lawn?😂
several LOL
How short is that cut?
1.5”
First!
Ooohhh wee

I must have missed this Video some how...🤦
