    I have a Raptor Hustler Zero Turn 50" I used carriage bolts and fastened a 2x2 angle to the rear of the deck. Surprisingly the square hole are already there. I then fastened a 36" nylon broom to the angle with lag screws. You only need a 36" broom to fit between the width of the tires. Then the tires flatten that part of the grass. First adjust the holes on the angle, to the deck so the broom extends about 2 1/2" below the deck. This allows me to brush the grass regardless of the height adjustment. I've had it on for over 3 years works great and never a problem. I'm a nut and it's perfect, perfect, perfect. It's hidden, clean install, you can't even see it. Prior to that I tried everything imaginable, they either wore out and broke or never worked at all.

    I just made this exact roller. From the economy, prices have changed drastically. For the short pipe it cost me $17, the end caps cost $1.67 each, the pepples cost me $3, the eye bolts cost me $2 each, the harness clamps cost me $2 each, the glue cost me $4, the lock tight nuts cost me 24 cents each, and the lock tight washers cost me 16 cents each. These items were purchased here in Missouri. Still alot cheaper than buying a factory made roller, but this is no longer $15 to make but it still is worth making.

    Always wondered how my Toro was able to leave nice stripes. I would cut the grass in a pattern just because of OCD and make sure the coverage was complete. But it would leave these nice stripes, it has a plastic skirt that loops into a cylinder at the point it touches the grass. And it's super still, like the skirt you have on your mower, but with a thick round bottom. Like a small PVC pipe, I always thought it was just to keep rocks from being shot at your shins. But it did a nice job of striping. I think adding this to one of those grass clipping push rakes would be nice, remove excess grass while stripping the grass.

    A basic petrol cylinder mower in the UK is about £300. A professional model obviously costs much more, but the domestic versions are fine for most people. Our rotary mowers are available with either rear wheels or a rear roller. I prefer rollers as they stripe, but they also make cutting over the edge of the lawn easier, as the mower simply balances while overhanging the edge.

    Protip. Put a third eye bolt in the middle and tie a rope to the middle eyelet eye bolt.
    That way when you reverse you just pull the rope up.
    Also if you dont have lock nuts. Use two bolts and a spring washer in the middle. And id use a washer on the inside of that pvc tube to spread the force out a little.

    Great way to get into striping! I have a TORO with their roller striper that I bought several years ago--seems like it was 100.00 or more back then so it hasn't gone up much. If peeps have time to blow and don't care about more steps then you can do the "big cut" look by going the same direction twice--then go the reverse direction twice. On my mower that gives a 42 inch look per stripe. But...you have to do a lot of doubling back to go the same direction twice. The results look amazing though for just a small 22" TORO mower that ends up looking like you used a larger zero turn rider. On my TORO roller I've always just filled it with water and then dump it out in the winter. Have fun!!

So my PVC hangs off the back in between the two wheels with about 1/4 inch space on the sides, and lays about 2 inches back from the debris flap. Anyway, my lines look awesome, thanks for the tips!

    Nice video! I see that the PVC you used was made at Charlotte Pipe Foundry. I worked at WH Rogers sheet metal and iron works in Charlotte, and our company spent almost every weekend there doing some kind of maintenance work. A very hot place to work and they made all kinds of pipe. Definitely not a easy job, but it seemed to be a great company, and so was WH Rogers also. Again, awesome video my friend. Mount Holly NC :)

    I went with very similar up. The only difference is I wanted the PVC to roll so I drilled 1/2” holes in end caps, ran rod through it, slipped eye bolts over end of rod, added a pipe cap to keep eyebolt steady and connected (2) 1” wide pieces of flat steel to each eyebolt. This meets to a point (V shape) and attaches to my zero turn.

    I did this years ago, but used PVC end caps and drilled holes in the center of the end caps. You can buy a threaded steel rod that goes all the way through to the other side and bolt it on the end caps. This way it rolls rather than drags.
    Keep in mind that lawn stripers really only work best on fescue and bermuda grasses. In my opinion, it's not worth the trouble trying to do in on St, Augustine, or similar type grasses.

    Thanks, I planted my Zoysia really late in 2019 so last year was my first real growing season, and with my Zoysia is just starting its second season and starting the peak growth cycle, and I want to try making one like you did and add stripes to my lawn. One great thing about Zoysia is it grows so freaking thick and dense! I've seen these builds before, but I just saw yours and it was easy and simple. As a minor upgrade idea, you could have added a 3rd eye bolt in the center with a section of rope and a third carabiner on the top handle. Tie a rope from the eye bolt to the middle handle support with enough slack so when you pull the rope to the carabiner on the top handle, it pulls the striper up off the grass and holds it up until you release it. This is just a rough idea. I've not tested it to see if the excess rope would be a risk to catching the blade. If it is I'm sure it would be easy to use a bungie cord or something to keep it up and out of the way. Liked and subscribed too!

      @Troy-Echo 3 роки тому

      @@lakehouselawncare1755 Thanks...although my Zoysia didn't do a great job striping. It's so dense that it pushes the blades back up. It does stripe, but even with using a 4" PVC pipe and gravel, the extra weight didn't allow the Zoysia to hold a stripe very long - maybe a day or two. If I was someone that mowed every day or every other day it would take, but I don't have the time for that. Thanks again for the video!

    • @88krazie

      Never cared for how Zoysia grass feels under your feet, it is however one of the easiest to maintain, if you like that sort of grass.

    • @Troy-Echo
      @Troy-Echo Рік тому

      @@88krazie There are multiple types of Zoysia. Some are thin bladed and a bit pokey on the feet. I have Zenith Zoysia which is a medium bladed Zoysia, and I find it quiet comfortable to walk on barefoot. I also mow my lawn at 1.5 inches most of the time versus down to 3/4 inch, so that may make it a bit softer. A few of the neighborhood kids that play in my front Zoysia lawn commented they loved playing in my lawn more than any other because it was so soft and felt good to play in and roll around in. Zoysia takes about the same amount of work as most other grasses. I mow about the same frequency as others with nice lawns in my neighborhood. I can go heavier on the root pruning herbicides like Prodiamine or Dithiopyr, and I need to apply fertilizers and such as often as others, although I do not need to put down as much nitrogen as many other types. Weed control is a little easier as once the lawn is dormant, anything not dormant is a weed and it sticks out like a sore thumb. I live in the transition zone and my neighbor keeps a great fescue lawn. I'm not sure why people like fescue so much. Sure, it has a very deep root system so it can go longer without water, but you plant one seed, you get one plant, and over time that plant gets old and gets diseased or dies and leaves a void which makes it easier for weeds to pop up. You can fight this with a pre-emergent, but when you do this, you cannot overseed to fill in these holes, and if you do need to overseed, you also have weeds growing in at the same time as the new seed. He doesn't put down any KBG to spread and fill in the voids. He mows it with a striping kit, and to most that don't know much about lawn care, the strips look really nice. If you pay attention between mowings, you'll see a fair amount of weed pressure. There' are several spots that are brown where the Fescue has died out and left voids. I put down some Midnight KBG in the first few days of April and do nothing but water it. I used a SunJoe dethatcher which with the dethatching attachment is just an electric power rake, which after mowing down ton 1 inch, I raked and pulled up as much debris as possible. I left the weed root system to maintain the soil structure so the dogs won't make it a muddy mess, and hoped a fair amount of the KBG would establish, which is has. It's buried in a ton of weeds, but it's in place to spread. I'll spray herbicide in late summer to see if the KBG will fill in. If so, I'll put down prodiamine to prevent new weeds over the winter and see how the Midnight KBG goes. I have two dogs that run and play in the back yard, so I'm testing which is easier to maintain with dogs playing, and which is easier to mow. I hate how cool season grasses clump up and stick to the mower deck. My Zoysia doesn't clump like that, and when i have a clean deck starting to mow my Zoysia, it stays clean. Unless the cool season lawn/weeds in the back yard are dry from lack of rain for several hot days, the mower deck is caked with glued on wet grass/chlorophyll, and it dumps grass in bulk here and there as the build up gets too thick. Unless I'm really impressed with the KBG, I'll just take Zoysia plugs and let them spread and take over the back lawn year by year. I don't like other types of grass as much because it feels like you're walking on little clumps of bunching grass. Which is why the kids loved playing in my lawn.

    I just put a much stiffer length of rubber where the rear skirt is. The part that drags behind the mower between the rear wheels. I found a piece of rubber in my garage so mine was free, but there are many things that would work to drag along the grass enough to bend it over. Play with the parameters and you'll have a very effective striper.

    I used to run Locke reel mowers in the 1970s through the 1990s. Built in Bridgeport CT and they cut and rolled the lawn into the Original lawn stripes. The drive to the ground was two rollers with a differential in the middle and a dolly wheel in the back between the handlebars. They dominated commercial mowing in southern New England (maybe elsewhere) until the walk behind rotary commercial mowers became popular.

When people are losing, they don't aim to increase their average, but that can only change if you have a personal trade guide and signal provider like that of Kennet Gibbs which has made me almost 8.7 on a 2 btc Trade capital over the last 2 months.
