Entrepreneurship in the EDC community feels like it has exploded in the past few years, and I was always frustrated that I couldn't find higher quality mechanical pencils when machined pens were so available. Your channel has brought some new makers into light that I wouldn't have known about otherwise - thank you! I would love to have a Spoke Model 4 for the customization factor, but every time I think about it, I remember that their products don't come with a clip as it's a 'desk only' model - if they offered it as an accessory, even, I would be willing to pay that premium.
Love your videos always. Watching your reviews have helped me a lot when deciding which pencil to use. Your top ten are very exciting to watch every year.
Great video with lots of amazing pencils! My favourite is my Staedtler 925 25, with the Rotring 600 and Pentel P205 close behind. (I have a Spoke 4 stainless steel and P200s in the other lead sizes coming in the mail, so excited!)
Thanks for a very entertaining video,I am getting into mechanical pencils and I have an original Quicker Clicker in blue I really liked it glad I found it.
Just stumbled on your channel after spending 7 days on jetpens trying to figure out what I wanted in mechanical pencils! I ended up getting a lot of different ones to try out. What I really appreciate about your channel/tone is a) your understanding of the consumer spectrum (from the video on mechanical pencils under $10) and b) your understanding of differing opinions. I enjoy your videos!
Thanks for posting a really good video. I've been a longtime watcher of your channel but have not commented much. I sent you some pencils back in the early days (Lamy 2000 etc) and am glad that the channel has taken off for you. Keep up the great work. Chandon

Great videos! I often reference them when deciding which pencil to buy. I also use out of production pencils and pens in my top ten lists because I like them but also because I hope that perhaps the companies will bring them back again. Do you find that some companies bring their writing utensils out of production, at least in the US, faster than others? I am thinking of how quickly Pilot ended Fure Fure Corone and Sprinter, and switched over to the 2020(?) line. Meanwhile, I still see Pentel Sharps, Quicker Clickers, and Twist Erases for sale though slightly modernized. Kind of makes me sad when my older pencils give out and there's not a readily available replacement for them. Anyways, keep up the great videos! They satisfy my daily dose of nerding out over writing implements. XD

Also i love the modern fuel mechanical pencils i try a lot of mechanical pencil and I prefer heavy pencil. Great video as always! I love that you unapologetically moved the quicker clicker up to five. It's your personal preference, and I'm here for it. Although, now I'm suggesting it, I notice the price spiked on Amazon.
Nice list! I have 10 of your 12!!! My Tactile Turn has a gritty feel when I advance the lead. Does yours as well? I wonder if that can be fixed? Anyway, love my IJ model 9 as well!

I love your reviews, quick question: imagining cost being equal, and fixing the tip wobble, would you recommend Rotring 600 or 800?
My favorite mechanical pencil is from the brand delhi from aliexpress. Only pencil i've really ever had. It has an aluminum barrel, a spiral textured grip and a thin design. Its original look wasn't too appealing to me until i scratched off the paint and broke the clip off out of highschool anxiety and left it looking silver and like it can take more of a beating than it actually can. I think i just like having a pencil that is uniquely mine and i could spot it and never get it mixed up with others. Also a 2 dollar price tag is pretty much budget limit for a third world country student.
Just want to also share my top ten mechanical pencils (of only the ones I own). I base my ratings on form, feel, and function, that's why I specify the colors and lead sizes when they make a difference: 1. Pentel orenznero - Black 2. rOtring 800 0.5 mm - Black 3. ZEBRA DelGuard Type Lx - Metallic Black / Metallic Red 4. TWSBI Precision - Black 5. rOtring 800 2.0 mm - Black 6. rOtring rapid PRO 2.0 mm - Black 7. ZEBRA Tect 2way - Matte Black / Matte Red 8. Nice vid. I'm really fond of the Rotring 600. Also just don't like the Pentel P200 because it too light for me and the pocket clip has too sharp of an edge. Recently been drifting to Koh-I_Noor 2mm clutch pencils...
Loved the video! I'm thinking about getting the Spoken 4, but I cannot decide between the two sizes. Do you have both sizes or just the 8.3? I was also going to go with the brass grip for the patina in the future.
I love the Original Pentel Quicker Clicker. It’s a go to pencil me even though it’s a 0.7mm size. And I don’t really gravitate to 0.7mm, I just love using it.
I found that the pentel sharp kerry is difficult to use for lefties. The top of the pencil gets undone when I write (because the friction causes it to turn counterclockwise)
Rally love this channel and your passion on mechanical pencils. Perhaps you could give me some light, is the body of Rotring 600 is also made from brass?
Favorite pencils so far (no particular order): +Dixon Ticonderoga Executive Silver(?) - 0.7mm +Alvin Draft-O-Matic (circa 1980s, I think) - 0.7mm +Bic (those regular cheap mechanical pencils) - 0.5mm or 0.7mm +Paper Mate Expressions - 0.7mm +Paper Mate Xtend - 0.7mm +Pentel Quicker Clicker (I currently own one with a ribbed rubber grip, possibly early 2000s) - 0.7mm +Tombow Mono Graph Shaker - 0.7mm These are only the pencils that I've physically used so far and loved. Pentel is easily my favorite brand for either pencils or pens and I use their products daily. Despite their cheapness I am still using up a 20-ish pack of Bic mechanical pencils from back in like 2005, so I use them a great deal also.
Like the intro. Still don't get the fascination with the p200 mechanism, but to each his own. Love the channel, you do a great job. If you haven't already, I recommend checking out one of the old Sanford Protouch II. It's one I think every collector should have.

I have a ballpoint pen version that I had decided to put into regular rotation years ago, thinking that the material was indestructible. Well... within just a few years, the grip wore smooth. No longer the same texture as the rest of the body. I had also seen sometime back a photo someone posted for the fountain pen, showing the lava had worn away down to the brass. So, nice to have as a conversation piece & beauty to behold, but not really wise to put to daily use. That is, unless you wrap the grip in some tape or rubber sheath to protect it.

Consider checking out IJ Instruments. There are several grip options that you may prefer. If you want cheaper, TWISBI precision is the classic example of a Rotring 600-style pencil without the "sharp" knurled grip.
Thanks for the review. I think you should have mentioned the price of the IJI Model 9, because at $115 (plus shipping to the US) it's more than FOUR times the cost of a Rotring 600, which is utterly ridiculous - premium product or not! On another note, I live just north of Edinburgh so I'll see if I can knock some sense into these guys and bring the price down a little. ;)
The idea behind the internals is that you use a set of internals that is the industry standard, rather than trying to reinvent the wheel and just produce something inferior. If it ain't broke, why fix it?
@@ClutchSituation Yeah I have no issue with that - I own all four of the P200 pencils and they are my go-to for drafting and sketching. Maybe it's a little cheeky to call the Model 9 their product, because it's just a machined metal tube with Pentel internals. Not for me, but whatever floats your boat!
@@FanPhys EXACTLY. I've made this exact argument to him regarding the spoke pencils. He wasn't having it. I thought I made a fantastic argument (cousin Vinny would've been proud), and he destroyed it. To each his own, but I agree with you 100%.
@@ClutchSituation mine works great so far. Nothing compares when you go to .3 or .2 mm leads. I ended up smoothing the sharp edge of the Pilot Automac's sleeve so it would not be scratchy on paper with any type of tooth to it. It might be the difference between the .5 mm of the Automac and the .3 mm of the OrenznerO, but the Nero is more enjoyable to use. The .3 mm with a softer lead is fantastic for writing.
@@ClutchSituation you should give it a chance. They're fantastic. The breaking issue you experienced with the 0.3 in this video? gone. The lead doesn't need to be extended past the sleeve, and the automatic feature is flawless.
I feel like the Rotring Rapid Pro is often overlooked and forgotten about. I bet if they would have named it the Rotring 1000 or another number series it would have gotten much more attention. It's obvious an evolution of the Rotring 600 in my eyes. Great list though!
For me, no mechanical pencils i have tried, or on this list is perfect. I have tried the Rotring 800, but it did not feel premium at all. The non-retractable tip in the Rotring 600 is a deal breaker. I'm also picky on the look, the Sharp Kerry looks very nice, but I don't like having a cap, it requires more "effort" to remove it. The tactile turns has a revealing eraser, which makes it not as nice as if it was hidden in a cap. The instruments clip is ugly. So for me the best is the pentel graphgear 100, but its not perfect, so i will design and machine a pencil body and keep the mechanism of the graph gear. Wish me luck!
I do not have a top ten yet but here it goes 1.Rotring 800 2. Graphgear 1000 3.Graphgear 500 4.Pentel Orenz 5.Quicker Clicker 6. Rotring Tikky 7.Pentel Sharp
Rotring 500 Mechanical Pencil beats the 600. More comfortable and very cheap (at least in Europe, 10 Euro). I have the 500, 600, 800 and the Rapid Pro, and the one I use the most is 500. The 300, I don't like is full plastic and too light.
The more you poke, the slower it happens. ;) We need one more review. And I'm at a funeral today, so I'm not exactly in a frame of mind to make a video. You never know someone's circumstances...
You lost me at "rOtring 800 comes in at 11..." 🤷♂️🤔😒 Yeah, I know the whole tip wobble thing, but damned... one little fix and it lasts pretty much for years to come.
The more you push, the more it puts me off making one. Seriously. Every single time you post like this it just increases the time between videos. I'm doing this for me. And I hate how cruel and impatient people are in comments.
Why so rude? His writing is just fine and his love for mechanical pencils have really been great content to watch. Please learn some manners before you comment.
What a very western cent6ric list. No real Japanese or German brands like Zebra or Kaweco, just mainstream crap and neckbeard shit like Tactile Turn. Crap list imho
Of course, I have to agree with your inclusions of the Spoke pencils and the Number 9 pencils. nimrodd.net/2020/05/11/custom-pentel-p205-pencils-ii/

So for me the best is the pentel graphgear 100, but its not perfect, so i will design and machine a pencil body and keep the mechanism of the graph gear. Wish me luck!
If you found success please share. I want to take a look
The case was the one on the photo of your pencil collection part 1 from November 2017

New intro? I like it but I like the past intro better.
Alright I will give p200 series a chance
when i see mechanical pencils its makes me happy dont know why?
I do not have a top ten yet but here it goes
1.Rotring 800
2. Graphgear 1000
3.Graphgear 500
4.Pentel Orenz
5.Quicker Clicker
6. Rotring Tikky
7.Pentel Sharp
Rotring 500 Mechanical Pencil beats the 600. More comfortable and very cheap (at least in Europe, 10 Euro). I have the 500, 600, 800 and the Rapid Pro, and the one I use the most is 500. The 300, I don't like is full plastic and too light.
4:02 Lmao
I was waiting for him to say "I'll trade you my mechanical pencil for that red stapler!" 😉😄
June is halfway over, when is the 2021 top ten list dropping? :)
The more you poke, the slower it happens. ;) We need one more review. And I'm at a funeral today, so I'm not exactly in a frame of mind to make a video. You never know someone's circumstances...
@@ClutchSituation I'm sorry to hear about your loss. I know it will come when it's ready :)
delguard ftw
You really should just call it "Top Nine Mechanical Pencils + Honorable Mentions"
👍👍👍👍👍👍
펜텔그래프기어 1000이 없다니요........................................
You lost me at "rOtring 800 comes in at 11..." 🤷♂️🤔😒
Yeah, I know the whole tip wobble thing, but damned... one little fix and it lasts pretty much for years to come.
what happened to the old earrape intro?
Please do not joke in that manner.
Spicy! What would make You excited For your day, everyday? Stay Fresh =O
Please, some new video. :)
Waiting...
The more you push, the more it puts me off making one. Seriously. Every single time you post like this it just increases the time between videos. I'm doing this for me. And I hate how cruel and impatient people are in comments.
@@ClutchSituation
Thank you for the answer.
I really like you r videos, im sorry for coment.
I’m Mechanical pencil freak
Nice video, funny to see a pencil lover who cannot write.
What a helpful and positive comment! You win the internet today with your niceness!
@@ClutchSituation lol but it's true
But it isn't nice. I got news for you: You play nice, or you don't get comment privileges.
Why so rude? His writing is just fine and his love for mechanical pencils have really been great content to watch. Please learn some manners before you comment.
Fifth! >:3
Jesus.. you ramble so much, i am listening on 1.5x speed and it is still quite insufferable at the mines
Sounds like this Channel isn't for you. :) Nobody is forcing you to watch.
What a very western cent6ric list. No real Japanese or German brands like Zebra or Kaweco, just mainstream crap and neckbeard shit like Tactile Turn. Crap list imho
