Wow another one already. It’s almost like the last one just came out. Keep up the good work!
Rotring 600 for suuure. My brother still has my dad's 30+ year old 600. Still uses it regularly. I just got two of them, silver 0.7 and black 0.5 along with a nice thick leather case. Such a pleasure to use.
Have to tell you Clutchman.. I got a bit nervous towards the end.. But was quite glad to see that the Rotring 600 still retains the Crown (: great vid man (:
I was hemming and hawing over weather I should do it in reverse order and save everyone the suspense. I decided not to deviate by reasoning that people like to be teased a little bit. ;)
I have always loved the Kuru Toga pencils. For school I have to write very quickly so it's nice to not be worrying about keeping the lead sharp since it always maintains a sharp point. I have the alpha gel Kuru Toga and the regular kuru toga. Both are 0.5.
This was an enjoyable top ten. Lots of awesome pencils!
For the rOtring 600, you can just use a standard BIC pen cap to make it pocket safe.
I’ve only used bic krystal caps, do they all fit the same
I should have read this earlier. I’ve had two of those rOtring 600s and I really loved them, and I broke both of them each within a month. What a waste of money. I may never get another rOtring pencil again :(, but if I do, I’m *DEFINITELY* getting the Rapid Pro.
@@XcelsiorFan4964 oof
NYC Transit Fanner Boy dont get rapid pro terrible besides 600. The plastic piece in the middle ruins durability
Get the 800.
I actually haven't purchased a mechanical pencil in about 6 months. My school has been doing everything on Macbook Air's, so I don't do much writing, and also I dont have much homework, for some odd reason. (Guess I'm lucky!) Another reason is my mechanical pencil case got stolen, which unfortunately had my Rotring 600 Newton Lava Variant in it. Found that in a junk drawer. So, after watching this, I'm gonna get back into my hobby that I loved so much for a long time!
Nick Mangona ouch, a 600 newton lava is like 250+ dollars.
@@samw yeah. I'm really disappointed that some thief took that. Worth alot.
Quite a pencil to lose to a thief. I am sorry to hear it.
Nice video! Always love how you give your top 10 list some Criteria so it is not 100% subjective. I was also thinking maybe your could do a high quality cheaper type of mechanical pencil Top 10. This would allow new people how are Bernard new to the hobby to see what they get without breaking the bank.
You mean this? ua-cam.com/video/p_A0JlUg1tQ/v-deo.html ;)
Graphgear 1000 should be on here..
This is what I was thinking. Graphgear 1000 has been my top pencil for a really long time.
@@robertstanton4694 dude that shit is toooooo heavy to be comfortable get the 500 instead.
@@robertstanton4694 mostly considering most graphite art takes long hours. If not days or even weeks!
@@talaverajr391 I had an 800 for a few years but switched for good once I picked up a 1000
@@robertstanton4694 don't you mind the weight? That gets really tiring I imagine after hours.
Thanks for such great information! I've been waiting for this video for a long time. I definitely need to get myself a Pentel Libretto, Platinum 171, and Spoke 4 with the sandblasted titanium. I'm beginning to see a pattern of Pentel, Platinum, Rotring and newcomer Spoke really owning medium-priced mechanical pencil market. Would love to get a Modern Fuel 2.0 as well but it'd either have to be gifted to me or absolutely necessary for my job haha.
In terms of large manufacturers, Platinum really seems to be taking the pencil market most "seriously" right now, in terms of innovation.
@@ClutchSituation If only they would do the same with their fountain pen line! They make great fountain pens as well, but aren't nearly very innovative in the field as they are with pencils.
thanks for update
Thank you for your reviews!
Can you recommend some good quality metal mechanical pencil(like rOtring) with rotatable/twist eraser like in Faber-Castell Grip Plus?
I love videos like this
OMG that Retro 51 with all the signatures is AWESOME.
I agree rotring 600 is a good pencil I also have rotring repid pro and 800
I collected some mechanical pencils I love pentel sharp Kerry I have the purple, light pink, olive green, pink, orange, gold, red, blue, black, Grey, Old black, old silver and old green and 0.5. Blue, black and 0.7
I noticed that you leave the sticker on some of your pencils, I recently bought a Graph 1000 0.7 and it had a sticker, looked ok. I removed it but did not come of without a struggle and left a residue. Are they best left on?
Bought a rotring rapid pro .07 because of your video ... I have been using it for a few months and love it it fits all my needs. It’s heavy but I like that in a pencil... it was more then I ever thought I would spend but it was worth every penny imo...spoke 4 would have been a front runner when I was looking but lack of pocket clip I just couldn’t do it ....the finish on my rotring started wearing off in the first week ... but rotring actually sent me a replacement with out hesitation
Could not find the Pentel Libretto nor the Spoke 5 on Amazon. Usually they carry everything. Can you suggest where we should look for them?
Spoke pencils can only be ordered directly from Brian Conti. spokedesign.com/ ebay, maybe, for the Libretto.
@@ClutchSituation Very helpful thanks
@clutchsituation, is it just me or are you getting less picky about needing rough knurled grips?
Great video as always. Cheers.
Yes and No. The knurling on that 600 is the reason why it is Number 1. ;P
You should include prices. Otherwise great vid :)
I've been using Pentel for years and have five. I think that Rotring so beautiful. I have no idea if we have them here in Brazil. I'll give it a shot.
I only own the Rotring 600, but I presume yes, this model is the very best.
Rotring 600 forever! 👍🏻
11:11
I am actually in possession of a rOtring 600 lava that I purchased on ebay at a great price last year. It is in 0.5mm and came with the box. Perhaps we could set up a way to have you review it? Let me know. Also picked up a Libretto because of you and it's great. Looking into getting a Spoke4 next.
Thanks for the offer. I'm not really interested in a send-to-me, send-back situation. Thanks for sharing your collecting status! You are doing well!
Ey bro what do you think about pentel graphgear 1000 or graphgear 500?
This should be in 2021 UA-cam rewind
I was thinking of buying the Rotring 800 and 800+ because I wanted to complete my collection of silver barrels since I am already owning the Rotring 600 in silver barrel and rapid pro 0.5
how was your experience with rapid pro when compared to 600 or other models by rotring?
i'm curious about where the uni kuru toga and zebra delguard fall in your list
Have you tested the OHTO Super Promecha Drafting Pencil?
The biggest surprise was the Graph 1000 for pro leaving the list, didn't see that one coming. Also, I swear I remember you having a Retro 51 Tornado "Lincoln" was that a rollerball or am I just completely mistaken? I really hope Brian comes out with an Orange Spoke 4, every time I see it I want to jump on it, but I want that matching set!
I used to have a Lincoln Tornado, but I lost it at a conference a few years ago. I was so mad at myself because it was a gift from the spouse. :(
Buen video.
Well, it's all your fault. I just ordered a Spoke 4 with titanium grip and blue body. Just what I need--another obsessive hobby to collect ! LOL
Just speaking from the perspective of someone who draws. If you are out in the field sketching stuff, then Caran d'Ache 844 and Pentel Kerry are definitely the ideal choices. If you erase a lot, then better go for a mono graph or Pentel twist-erase
I bought a Pentel P205 because so many people recommended it. Looks great, but I don't enjoy writing with it all :(
I completely agree, Rotring 600 is still the best, it' s almost 40 years old and it keeps being the number 1. I wolud like to see on the list the Pentel S55, it is also a very good mechanical pen.
The grip is uncomfortable on my fingers.
If I could suggest one thing to your criteria list? Cool factor. Sometimes I buy a pencil that is just so cool, even if I dont use it much, that I have to buy it!
I would consider that part of "Style!"
Why not? A hobbyist may buy many things that are seldom used, including pencils, pens, watches, pocket knives, and what about stamps, etc. The thing is to enjoy the possession and beauty of it.
I got an ad on the video! Nice!
My experience with clutch pencils are Pilot Colour Eno .7mm and Pentel twist eraser .9mm.
After 10 years of usage, both of them are still in working order with it's own funny twists.
Pilot's silicone grip became smelly after 8-9 years and had to put that grip. The pencil still writes perfectly .... Without silicone grip.
Pentel twist eraser uses metal clutch mechanism, unique for it's price. After 7 years {approximately} the twist eraser broke down and had to glued the eraser housing to a fix position, but the pencil mechanism still in pristine condition. I had to retire it due to the absence of .9mm HB in where I live. I dislike 2B....
Both were purchased in 2001.....
Wow- durability is the best testimonial.
Modern Fuel 2.0 looking good on the paper there against the others
Thanks for your top ten list. I’d like to see your top 5 mechanical pencils listed by a price range. Like say, $15 and below, $15 - $25, and $25 and higher. I absolutely love my Spoke 5, but it’s not realistic to compare it to some $5 pencils. Anyway, just MY thoughts. Thanks again for your top ten!
I did one like it last year: ua-cam.com/video/p_A0JlUg1tQ/v-deo.html
I missed something. The Pentel Sharp Kerry can advance the lead with the cap posted or with the cap off? Is that correct?
That is true.
Hi. I just purchased an orange Pentel Sharp Kerry for $19.90 from the shop Shogei Bungu Rakutenichiba on Rakuten Global Market. They have it as a limited edition. Also available in bronze, hot pink and silver.
Looks like you got the last one. Good find!
My top ten:
10) Pentel Graph 1000 CS
9) TŪL Mechanical Pencil
8) Pentel Graph Gear 500
7) Uni Kura Toga Roulette
6) Pentel Orenz (metal grip)
5) Pilot S20
4) LAMY Scribble
3) TWSBI Precision
2) Pentel Technica-X
1) Zebra M-701
Solid list!
I have Rotring 500 and Rotring 600 is x2.5 more expensive than 500. Should i buy it or buy 4-5 budget pencils? Or just another 500? I use it for writing.
I'm not the one to answer this question, other than to tell you that you know you best.
What was the reason behind dropping the hexomatic from the top 10?
There are better pencils. I like the Hex-o-matic, but I find it susceptible to lead slippage, and that really bothers me.
Hi.
Why the designers of mechanical pencils insist on putting smooth grips? Having grips like of Alvin Draft Matic.
For the spoke 4, the titanium grip is better than aluminum grip. How slippery are the grips of these pencils?(especially the titanium polished with sandblasting)
So which one is the difference between the writing experience? If i remember for the aluminum grip you gave it a good rating.
sandblasted titanium is more grippy than aluminum
@@ClutchSituation is it better than rotring 600 o graphgear 500??
For the Spoke 4 in titanium, do you prefer the sandblasted titanium grip or the shiny titanium grip?
I don’t know about him but I prefer the sandblasted one.
I prefer the sandblasted.
Have you used or plan to use the “Pentel Orenz Nero”
He explained that his broke after using it.
Are you ever planning on reviewing the orenznero?
Nope. Mine broke very soon after I got it with normal use. Lead sleeve wouldn't stay firmly extended. I can't review a non-functioning product.
amazing, but what you usually use mechanic pencil for???
Writing words in ordered collections to convey meaning!
For anything you would use any pencil for, of course. And you don't have to sharpen it.
That's so cool
what about rapid pro?
I am a mechanical pencil freak i have 20 pencil almost of them are not longer in production
I have rotring tikky l was made in 1973 in waste germany it is very special piece
Well I don't do drawings so I use mechanical pencils only to write. Although a lot of people hate kuru toga wobbling an spongy sensation, for me the mechanism is perfect though. I can't write with common mechanical pencils anymore, because I just hate the feeling of writing with a soft graphite. So it really depends on each one's opinion.
spoke is out of stok sold out..>?? is there any way anyone can help me find one.. they looksick
Spoke pencils are only available from Spoke Design. Brian tends to do limited runs. He is releasing .3mm Spoke 5's tomorrow and maybe he'll restock the 4 soon?
@@ClutchSituation thank you Señor Clutch, just in another treed of ideas .. I'm amazed that UA-cam lets you talk to someone like you so fast so direct and so personal .. just a thought.. thank you for the fast response. just one more question I'm learning to draw already on the level guest 2 what lead holder do you recommend from Brian or any other brand.
Use my Rotring 600 everyday :) best pencil for maths!
I use my kerry sharp for maths
Pentel S475 is also very similar to the P200
Only one I like here from the list , is Pentel P200 Sharp.
you are the only person whose handwriting is identical to mine. I rarely comment on anything but the second I opened the video I noticed it. I showed it to my gf and it is weirding her out! Id love to share a picture so I could blow your mind as well.
They all look too heavy for me. I'm looking for a .9 mechanical pencil that is lighter than my index finger, the lighter the better. I wish they made the ohto sharp pencil aps-350es a .9 instead of .5. The search continues for me.
How du take care of the tip that is on the 600
Keep it in a case.
Can you do a video on your pencil case or what you carry everyday thank you for responding but is there any 3rd party covers for the top because my graphgear 1000 tip bent and my 500 so I am trying to find a way to keep it from bending I keep my 500 on a case all the time
I am sure you have heard this a lot but I would love for you to review the Orenz Nero, It’s worth the $ in my opinion
Mine broke within 5 minutes of normal use. I can't review a product that breaks immediately.
Yikes! What a disaster.
@@ClutchSituation i think that's because of the kind of lead the pencil have to hold, which should be 0.3 and 0.2, and that's because it's suited to be used to write in Japanese
Have you tried the Tutto3?
I have not. Do you recommend it as a quality product?
I'm writing a review for you.
A little surprised that the LAMY 2000 isn't on this list. I feel that it's gotta be at least in the top 15!
Thickness bothers me.
Pentel Sharp is too thin for me to use comfortably. I wish they made it with a greater circumference. .
the spoke 4 comes in 9.2mm grip diameter size and it uses the pentel sharp mechanism
Yes, thanks. I have one on order. Do you own a Spoke 4?
@@peterpuleo2904 Unfortunately not, I've been eyeing one for the last couple months though. I've probably read every article and every reddit post there is about this pencil. I'm just having a hard time justifying the price as a uni student with no income.
I know the feeling. When I was a student I could not really justify buying any kind of expensive writing instrument, so I bought very "budget" pens and pencils. Now that I can pay for better items, such as the Spoke 4, I have much less need for it on a daily basis, because I am no longer in school. Life has its own, ironic time line. When you no longer need the Spoke, you will have plenty of money to buy it.
ROTRING 600 ever. And what about ROTRING 500?
I should review it.
I actually like this list. I believe it is a good list.By the way,did your handwriting improve? it looks much neater!
You skipped over the Pentel 1000 it’s a good one it’s my everyday writing tool
He doesn't like the Pentel 1000 much because of the "weird" grip and the center of balance
Do an new update!!!
what i thought i was alone!
Im surprised he didnt put the Zebra Delguard on the list
800+ is my choice ! :)
Not even a mention of Kuru Toga or Zebra DelGuard? I’m new to this but they seem very good.
What would you say are the flaws in the Pentel sharp Kerry?
Thanks!
There aren't many flaws to the Sharp Kerry. Maybe only eraser size.
Cool thanks.
Uni kuru toga?
Pentel graphgear?
Nope. Grip and weighting.
@@ClutchSituation i mean the pencil rights well and feels of high quality, from your list i see that you like stuff that is light ....
Pentel orenz Nero debería estar en la lista
You use 0.9mm lead btw? Also do you draw with mechanical pencils? I do. But aside from drawing, i also writing stuff down with my mechanical pencils.
After 35 years it hasn't been invented a pencil better than Rotring 600...
Mi top 10
Dibujo y escritura con grip moleteado, a quien interese
1. Pentel gg1000
2. Rotring 600
3. Uni kuru toga Roulette
4. Platinum pro use
5. Zebra Delguard Lx
6. Pentel gg500
7. Staedtler 925
8. Alvin Draft matic
9. Ohto súper promecha
10. Tombow mono graph Zero
Todos por debajo de los 80 mil pesos colombianos, a excepción del Rotring 600.
El zebra no viene moleteado pero tiene un mecanismo Anti rotura de minas
why is 600 better than 800?
Tip Wobble.
I genuinely don't understand the appeal of the Kuru Toga. I personally prefer writing with a slanted tip.
WHERE IS PENTEL ORENZ NERO ?
Sitting broke in my junk pencil pile after only a few uses.
best pencil lead?
I like Pentel Ain Stein, but Pilot Campus is good. I like Staedtler lead.
Pentel P200? Why does the pencil itself say P205? I don't have a lot of experience with mechanical pencils...
P205 is just to designate the .5mm lead size, vs. the P207 which would be .7mm
@@admiraljosh Thank you!
p200 is a series. all of them are robust and almost the same
pentel orenzNERO automatic lead dispense :?
Nope. Broke immediately.
NO NOT RO TRING, THE PIPE BROKE AND IT ONLY SHOOTS OUT LEAD WHEN THE PIPE IS BROKEN!
This man took 5 min to get to the video
that intro is way too loud!
Try turning your volume down.
Ok boomer
rotring rapid pro is better
than the rotring 600
Not pocket safe. It is overrated.
Graphgear 1000 saved my life, helped me quit drugs, brought jebus into my life. Graphgear, Graphhhh gear, GRAAAAAAAA-hallelujaH! 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
You done?
@@ClutchSituation we done
Finger tips bother me lowkey
Do you know why people bite their nails? It isn't because they have "bad habits." Do some research.
You talk too much about things not relevant. Judging them so they can match your wardrobe? I appreciate the subject but damn dude unnecessarily way to long.
LOL Thanks man! These mean-spirited tips from people with zero audience themselves really helps me to improve! 10/10. Bravo. I think I might save this one for a "most ridiculous comments" video in the future. Everybody will get a kick out of how obtuse you are.
@@ClutchSituation you even comment too much. You like to hear yourself talk or what? Matching your pencil to your outfit? Who cares about that? I came to watch your video because I like mechanical pencils not listening to ramble on and on about when you got it where you got it who got it for you. Keep it up. Good job.
Mean spirited? That was being nice. Take the constructive criticism and do what you must but trust me I chose not to be mean spirited. Don't get your coordinated underwear in a bunch over mechanical pencils. As I stated I appreciated the subject matter and you're obviously well informed and know your shit. All is to break it down further. Don't listen to a word I say, I dont care. I have over 14 years advertising, marketing, designing and creating commercials for TV, radio and newspaper. Don't so defensive and save the drama.
Sadly....there aren't ten mechanical pencils better then the rest. What is all this writing, drawing you all are doing? I mean...I understand you all want to match the colors to your daily wardrobes...but other than that....
Everyone has different tastes. I guarantee you that there are things that you like that many other people don't. So, what is to be gained by criticizing people for having tastes different than yours?
He says while watching a mechanical pencil reviewing channel...
You are a sensitive one clutch. You put yourself out there doing youtube videos. You cant please everyone. Dont get so defensive when you dont. You're not curing cancer I know I'm not curing cancer. I love mechanical pencils. So do you. 25 min for a top 10 is long you can cut some it and it would be a better video. Good luck
