pentel p209 for me is amazing. on the thicker side of things but but the ability to press for thick and light lines without breaking the graphite is really helpfull in designs.
I'm so glad I found your channel! I just received my Rotring 800 0.7mm (I plan to use 2B leads) and I love it! I'm just starting as a mechanical engineering/applied maths PhD student and I write a lot of equations! I also bought a P203 for the few technical drawings I make. I've been using for the past 6 years several Stabilo Technic mechanical pencils in 0.3 and 0.7mm for basically everything I wrote except for my exams (fountain pen). I thought it was a very good mechanical pencil: sturdy and with a metal grip. But the textured plastic body always turns to goop over time... I wish I discovered the true world of mechanical pencils sooner!
@@yunshanluo3497 I've always written with a fountain pen since I was a kid. I like the fact that it is very smooth because during engineering exams I usually wrote 8-12 pages. With a ballpoint pen I get wrist pain or something before that and I'm not really faster. EDIT: And we had to use ink for exams: no pencil :(

Fantastic video as always. Thanks to you, I’ve been introduced to both Roting and well as Spoke Pens. One of these days I’ll invest in a Tactile Turn Pen too! You rock Michael thanks as always.
I’d love to try a Rotring but by the time you convert the purchase price to Canadian dollars and include the ridiculous shipping cost you’re up around the $80-100 ca. I can’t afford to justify that much for one pencil right now. You’re lucky to find a couple of Bic’s or PaperMates around where I live so you have to go online and ship for any variety. :(
Interesting video. I still think the Pentel P205 is one of the best. The Uni Shalaku is a very practical pencil, and the Tombow Mono Graph to some extent. My top 5 (out of the 10 I have) 1. Faber-Castell TK Fine 9717, 0.7 B 2. Pentel P205, 0.5 HB 3. Rotring Tikky , 0.5 HB 4. Uni Kuru Toga standard 0.5 HB 5. Tombow Mono Graph, 0.5 HB 6. Rotring Tikky 2, 0.7 B -your friend from India.
Oh damn the Orenz Nero is on the list. I was gonna buy one but was skeptical after a few bad reviews but your list is usually pretty accurate to what I like. I will get myself a Orenz Nero and a Kerry Sharp.
Love the list vids. The OrenzNero is really fantastic. I would put it higher on my list. I've even picked up backups in case it is discontinued. Also, the S30 is spectacular and I'm glad it made the list. I, too, have collected all the colors, although, I really prefer black.
Personally, I think you should have a "Top 9" with the 10th slot being a "Honorable Mentions" list of arbitrary length This way, you can keep all those pencils that would've been at least 10th place worthy and stick them in the "Honorable Mentions" list with no 'List Length Limit' for "Honorable Mentions".
I'm stuck between nero and s30. Which one is better and which one has better aspects. Automatic feeding system which one is better. I would be glad if you tell me the advantages and disadvantages.
Got the graphgear 1000 pencils, and the Rotring rapid pro pen pencil which I love very much but I will be getting the modern fuel 2.0 pen pencil set in 1 day. But I liked your opinion on the pencil any way
Actually I have used the orenz nero and the halfway through the year the pencil mechinism stops working and my two copies of the nero have failed at the same time. The lead sleeve is very finicky and catches lead in between the lead sleeve .
I’d love to try a Rotring but after converting it to Canadian funds and adding the ridiculous cost to ship anything anymore I’d be up close to a hundred dollars for just one pencil. NOT going to happen. It blows being a Canadian these days.
Dude, I wish you were doing these as an artist or architecht or a draftsman. You just rank these based on your writing experience. I've never seen you talk about those aspects of these pencils as they are designed for those purposes.
@@ClutchSituation True, someone really should. These pencils need a differetnperspective to be reviewed. I dont know what ge does but he seem to be familiar at least.
Don't think many artists use mechanical pencils and draftsmen by hand isn't really a thing anymore, all CAD. I can say that for engineering school mech pencils are still ideal but almost none of the ones on this list are good for that. For me in electrical engineering, my top picks are the Zebra M-402 (sadly discontinued), Tombow Mono Graph Shaker, and Staedlter Integrity 9505. The latter two have very good backup erasers that could see you through a full exam, the Zebra and 9505 have extremely durable tips that can be tossed in a bag or jacket pocket without worry. Can't be too heavy, especially top-heavy, if you're going to work for 8-14 hours a day with your pencil and 3 hour lectures.

I HATE plastic anything.
Why do you write with a fountain pen? Isn’t it hard to write fast with it?

4- Pentel Tradio
5- Pilot S20
been using a pentel kerry for the past year, and I look forward to exploring more options. thanks for the video!
Wow, I watched a couple of days ago your old list uploaded in 2015, maybe later. Awesome to see the new list.....btw the algorithm brought me here

I have some Scripto mech pencil from the 1970's think they were some of the first mechanical pencils made. I like them the best.

Noo it’s really bad only lasts for a year
Actually I bought two copies and after a while the mechinism fails and the pencil stop working
just in time for back to school. ty

It's all just artificial categorization.... ;)
@@ClutchSituation I know ^_-.
But Top 9 sounds better than Top 15
Very interesting list, thank you ! what metal is your IJ 9 made of ?
Rotring 600 is my number one and the only pencil i loved ever since i got my hands on it
I'm stuck between nero and s30. Which one is better and which one has better aspects. Automatic feeding system which one is better. I would be glad if you tell me the advantages and disadvantages.

I’ve been looking for the spoke 4 titanium pencil forever I have yet to find this lol.
I've already tested several mechanical pencils, but the best one, in my opinion, is still the Rotring 600 0.5.
I managed to snag the red variant of the s30. Great pencil!
My Pentel Orenz Nero crapped out after a couple months. The lead just slides back in. Yes I've done the repairs
Top Ten. 2-3 honorable mentions. Problem solved. Everybody duh zit! ;)
Actually I have used the orenz nero and the halfway through the year the pencil mechinism stops working and my two copies of the nero have failed at the same time. The lead sleeve is very finicky and catches lead in between the lead sleeve .
I love this channel
You are on a slippery slope my friend! Next year it will be top 20!!!!!! 🤣
I love your video
Tombow Zero / Mono Graph / and Mono Graph One worth a look
It could be interesting to know what mechanical pencils have the best erasers…
All erasers on mechanical pencils are garbage.
Could I ask you something?
If they made the ohto sharp pencil aps-350es a .9 instead of .5 it would easily take my favorite. For my the lighter the pencil body the better
I’d love to try a Rotring but after converting it to Canadian funds and adding the ridiculous cost to ship anything anymore I’d be up close to a hundred dollars for just one pencil. NOT going to happen. It blows being a Canadian these days.
I find the 600 too top-heavy but the 500 feels about right. It's like C$27 on amazon with free shipping. Cheers from the capital.
600 and newton are different lines from rotring. there is no "600 newton".
What was the grip style on the model 9?
I see you don't reply to comments but I'd really like to know.

Pentel kerry
My Einstein retro 51 pencil+pen
Lamy 2000?
I wish 0.4mm was more popular. And I would kill to have a Kerry in 0.4mm or 0.3mm!
Agreed -- 0.4mm is just enough finer than 0.5 but enough stronger than 0.3... I only have one pencil in it, though.
Pentel quicker clicker is such a crap... It breakes easily. I would never add to my list.
