- This week we are laser engraving marble coasters with quirky space icons on the Speedy 400 flexx laser. We first put masking tape over the coasters, engrave, and then spray-paint the images. A great idea for any bar and living rooms.

As a tip, if you used the laser engraver to cut a round from a piece of cardboard with a hole in the center you could easily find the center. It's sort of like how people use the laser cutter to cut jigs for other laser projects.
You dont need to bother finding the center. You drop some scrap cardboard in the machine and cut holes for the coasters. This way you can engrave them all at once with no fuss. Also when you paint them you should put the coaster vertical because spray cans dont like spraying downwards for long.

These videos from our "Lasers in the Classroom" playlist are meant to give ideas for students and schools on what they can do with these laser machines, not necessarily for mass producing these items. But you are totally right if you are looking to do production work!

I do the same. I have cut out 4 circles the same size of the coasters, in mdf. Then as long as my mdf jig is straight all my coasters will be fine.

For those of you that want to use this center of coaster method for smaller projects instead of making a jig for multiple coaster placament, a centering square will come in handy and you can use it to find the center of all size circles so you can easily do tons of projects like this and there pretty cheap.

We are looking at buying this machine for our stone company, on the speedy 400 do you use the co2 laser or fiber laser on the white marble?
So I just learned how to use a laser engraver here at work. Its mainly used for metal, sometimes plastic but no ones used it for marble. That being said, i would like to engrave a small headstone for my wife’s cat and I’m unsure of the best settings for the laser. Ie frequency, scan speed, dot delay or if multiple passes are recommended. TIA

Hi Salma, any of our laser engraving machines can do this and you can control the engraving depth on things like marble - lower the speed. The depth is about 0.001" on these.

Nope, if you engrave without masking it will turn white.

Hi, we have a 60W CO2 laser machine . What influence is line distance for you? For us it makes a lot of difference.

@@TrotecLaserCanada When I hatch the vector file, I can choose a lot of options. One of them is line distance. Most of the time i use 0.01 and 0.02. Do you know the best line distance for engrraving for marble?
Another option is the laser direction: horizontal, vertical, or round. (We are engraving marble jars). Do you have any experience with the best settings?
why do you need to put tape on the marble before laser engraving?
Thanks Fresc222, yes exactly - in the video we spray-painted the inside with a grey colour. If you don't want to have colour then you don't need to put the tape, the engraving will then just be white.

You would need a fiber laser to actually engrave metal. 3D engraving would not be possible on metal, usually on wood and acrylic

yes you can engrave crystal with our laser. You just want one? Or selling them out?

@@countdowntolife8867 in that case you would need to go to one of OUR customers as a laser service job. You can google "Laser engraving service" and find a local shop, or google "Makerspace" or "FabLab" to find a local one in your area where you can go and do it yourself. We hope that helps!
