    is the purpose of the paint simply to stop the laser shining through or does it also make for more detailed lines?

    • @PawPawsWorkShop
      @PawPawsWorkShop  2 роки тому +1

      The diode laser does not see the glass. It would go straight through and do nothing to the glass. The paint provides a focal point

    • @campbellbluestone1837
      @campbellbluestone1837 2 роки тому

      In that case would a piece of black sign vinyl on the underside of the glass not be much quicker and work just as well?
      I understand that you can’t laser directly onto vinyl/pvc due to the poisonous fumes but with a glass tumbler you could also place vinyl on the inside if it’s simply to block the beam
      Save a lot of painting, drying then washing or would that not work for some reason?

      For the glass it is the cheapest tempera paint available. This is a common paint used in elementary schools for kids. For the white tile method you need a paint with titanium oxide in it. This usually is found in white paints.

    It seems to me that if you can engrave glass with your 20 watt laser at 60%, one could probably engrave glass with a 10 watt laser at 100%, perhaps a bit slower. What do you think? Your tempera paint technique is very attractive.

    As I learn my new engraver, one thing I don't often see it the power of the laser used. If I know my Atomstack A5 Pro is a 5W laser, I would expect settings would be similar for a different brand with a 5W later. I'd love to see more information like that in videos of this type. That would be helpful for us newbies trying to understand what settings we need to be using to get similar results.

    8:00 Wow ... 60% Power at a 20W laser is quite much ...
    EDIT: Ah ... I looked at the website and if you are using the "FoxAlien Reizer 20W" you just have a 5W Laser ... just as tip for coming videos. I was wondering how 60% of 20W (12W) laser just make that less impact into glass. In real you have just used 3W laser power.

They can also vary the depth to create different looks. Years ago my wife and I did this type of work. I would suggest finding a sandblaster that does the tombstones.

    • @PawPawsWorkShop

    • @jbrunson1949
      @jbrunson1949 Рік тому

      I would try using a white paint, if you intend on eating on the plates it could be bad idea,, as thhe food and such will get into the engraving, another thing that works on glass or plates, is T-O Titanium-Oxide, comes in powder form and you mix it with anything from water to paint thinners, I used plain alcohol as it helps the drying time, as anything you use it needs to be put on thick, so several coats work better.

      @@PawPawsWorkShop Yeah when you said 20w alien laser I immediately jumped over to their site to see what the actual output is. SO many chinesium lasers rate the laser by the power consumption NOT the optical output.
      Now with that being said there IS a company (I forget which) who developed and just released a diode laser that IS 30w. What they've done is ganged up a number of diodes and then combined the lasers via a prism to make a beam that has all the power of all the lasers combined. No info on when they're going into production or the cost as yet. It was this past summer when I read about it.
