    Do you know the ph of your soil? Avocados are sensitive to a ph of 7 or higher as it compromises their ability to take up iron & zinc. So maybe a raised bed with a very deep layer of compost would work if you want to plant them out of their pot. You can do a soil ph check very cheaply with kits from the garden centre or farm store. x

      Yeah, I saw that video but can’t remember if they had a bit of a struggle with all the slats going in the right places. Looks like a very long project...

      Haha oh ya! Good point! I didn't even think to look. I could have also just hammered at the drill bit from the other side... but I got there int he end!

    I'm frightened you're going to remove the stone so many other stones are counting on.

    • @PortugalfromScratch
      @PortugalfromScratch  Місяць тому +4

      If I do, I'll figure it out. 😁 But I can see which stones depend on which and the entire thing is already supported from the other side of the wall, so it's maybe not as scary as it might seem.

    You’re making great strides! The window is nice and big. What a view! Will you repurpose the rocks into the shed build? Hello to Sinade. Always enjoy the clips of your adventures away from the house.

    Finca Life has latest video including a solar water heater. Wouldn’t that be nice? I suspect your dad could handle the installation. You deserve any easy hot shower after all your work.

    he rule of thumb is the roots go as far out as the copa de arbol, top of the tree. So look at the avocado trees, calculate how large their tops are and that will give you an idea as to how away from the hut they should be planted. Again in a storm they can topple over, another reason why not to plant them close to your hut

    • @PortugalfromScratch
      @PortugalfromScratch  Місяць тому

      Thanks! I won't be planting them near a building, they'll be down on a bottom terrace. I'll just be keeping them cozy there in the pots over winter. 🙂

    hi Kirsty. When I worked for a home builder in the Southern California desert. They always planted the trees in winter. Or sure if it was just in the desert you do that or not

      I think with sensitive trees like mangos and avocados I'd rather give them the summer to get strong in the ground and if I water them a lot 'm hoping for the best. But ya, that's the usual thing and maybe I'll do that... let's see.
