  • This window hole on my off grid barn conversion in Central Portugal is a project that's haunted my dreams for years now... but I feel like I've finally conquered my fears and managed to get it done! Well, mostly done... the hard parts are finished and I couldn't be happier!
Sinead makes an appearance to help me with some work and then I help her attempt to save the life of a neglected tree...it's a fun video and I hope you like it!

id over winter the avocado in the polly..next watering should be when the pot is nice and light but not bone dry.that wont need watering for a month at least..remember over watering makes plants sick and dormant and they wont search for roots.

You are getting very good with the grinder. I have only used my grinder for cutting tiles. Good idea for fitting the top piece. The window hole looks great.

Kirsty you truly are amazing!! I believe you saved thousands of dollars by doing the job yourself. I don’t think any professional would have done as good job as you since you are a perfectionist!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Congratulations 🎈🎉🍾 It’s looking amazing!!

That stone work looks fab. What type of lime are you using on the pointing? Here the windows all open inwards with shutter doors on the inside, partly because we have security reja's on the outside, but it also means there's plenty of space for the insect netting. We have set our windows halfway in the wall as the originals were, that gives a sill inside and out, handy for plants

Window is beautiful! Can't wait for it to be finished! Your home will be warm and light this winter. About the avocado. It looks like a fungal issue, that has possibly pests moved in taking advantage of a stressed plant. I would spray the avocado with insecticidal soap and fungicide. I would also raise the pot off the ground so it can drain really well. I recently have taken on the rehabilitation of a family members lime tree. It was looking similar. I sprayed the fungicide and insecticidal soap once then again in ten days. I also repotted and raised it up off the ground to the drainage is over ample. Six weeks later and it is looking great. I have hope for success!

Woah! Kirsty! Ab.So.Lu.Tely Amazeballs!!!! Kudos to you for sticking it through! Although, I guess that once the hole's there you have to do something. 😅 The front of your cottage is looking wonderful. Once things are finished it's going to look beautiful, comfortable and homey. Very well done. You sound wonderful, confident and soooo coool. BTW, I wonder if Canada has those wee horses? What a handy form of manure. I have a past life of handling a little regular horse-sized doo and it was far less attractive. You always do a beautiful job with whatever you touch. (The knobs were brilliant.) Have a great week and bask in the glory! Angela

Kirsty, your new window frame, looks beautiful, and an outstanding, achievement by you, the special extra design work on the top stone works perfectly, brilliantly well, to secure the frame.
Lady Advocado plant will flourish, with all the special love mixes she has been given and the perfect, site location to live, during the winter season near your stonhouse, to protect her, will give her every opportunity
    to grow and flourish.

Hi Kirsty. The window is looking so good! It seems like such a beautiful big window sill that you could put stuff no if the window opened outward instead of inward. Just tossing it out there. I know it will be perfect however you install the window 😊👍

Beautiful!!! Clever stonework with the "key" on each side 👍 How long does a battery last when you're stone-grinding? We have a Makita grinder, but it is corded -- it would be convenient to have a battery powered one, though.

Avacados are semi-deciduous and your has Black Streak. It may not have gotten enough water. If it does not have cankers it should be okay but will need some TLC. The stone surround on the window is looking fabulous. You really should be proud of yourself in making the window where there was none. What an improvement for the Tiny Barn House conversion!

A ton of work nobody will notice in the end, but it looks really great. You might know the live of living channel, they have build shutters and windowsills, maybe there is some inspiration for you.
    Regarding work safety:
I do not think that your glasses are delivering appropriate eye protection when grinding stones, so you might consider getting ones that are closed at the edges. More importantly a plastic garden chair is no ladder especially when handling heavy stones. So it was great to see you replacing that by the scaffolding.

  • @polgarauk5606

Wow Kirsty it really does look wonderful, the stones are perfect and the notches were an inspired idea well done. Really hope the window man can get you sorted quickly 😊
You are very inspiring to people you overcome the things that make you nervous and you do it so well. The router and the window.
Sending good vibes too success that she will survive and flourish.
Take care and enjoy some non stone work for a bit you have well and truly earned it 😁🤗

Here in the old houses you see that often.
