My 505 is in the mail, and I'm halfway through this video. I am blown away that this needed boss's help to be able to do. This is like the default foot control scheme for every loop pedal in existence. In what other way would anyone even use a foot controller? My mind is truly boggled. And no other video mentions holding it down to undo, so thanks for easing my mind that that's possible. Was worried I just blew 600 bucks when if it can't work like my digitech jamman stereo, I'll be sick with buyer's remorse.
Great video... it helped my get this easy method of control (thanks!)... BTW, on the "Assign" 1-16 you can just turn the know that you use to select and achieve the same thing as scrolling to the left. I discovered this by accident.
Hey there John.. thanks for explaining this functionality. my new Boss is written differently per page, but the point is made. It probably has something to do with the bios update..
Thank you! I works but! Do i really have to do this with every patch?? Not working on others damn. Good that instead pressing "track" you can also push stop and play simultaneously and it will set track as current
If you make these settings in one memory slot then save to a new slot they will carry over. If you already have a slot set up that you want to add this to, you'll have to do it for each slot. I just have a template slot with these settings that I start with, then save to new slots.
Hi there... Am having a serious issue where even though I follow all the steps through, I have to press the foot pedal twice to start recording and to stop it. It behaves eratically. I have gone back to the shop and tried 3 other pedals and always the same issue. I can't seem to find a way to press once to make the pedal work... Have any idea why this would be?
All I can think is that you may be using a latching switch rather than a momentary switch. One toggles with each press, while the other just sends a signal while pressed. Try a cheap yamaha piano sustain pedal switch. Here's an article about the different switch types: hosatech.com/products/analog-audio/footswitches/fsc-500/#:~:text=A%20latching%20footswitch%20is%20designed,multitrack%20recorder%20punch%20in%2Fout.
Different makes have different polarities too. This is the one I use: www.tapestrymusic.com/p-937-yamaha-fc5-foot-switch.aspx?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAs6-sBhBmEiwA1Nl8s78FOM3y_Spkw9D8aUB4ghqE_n0iKvf70CHjX4wKOZZR-a_687tn3BoCdqsQAvD_BwE
Thanks very much for the tips ! Really helpful, I would add that if you want to keep these settings for the current memory, you need to save it with "write", otherwise you will have to start over. Wondering if there's a way to make it as default settings applied to all Memories, it takes some time twisting these knobs every time you start on a new memory...
It does not apply globally. I just have a starter template with these (and other) settings saved in Memory slot 1 that I never overwrite, then I just write/duplicate these settings to additional memory slots as I'm working on songs.
great video, thank you so much! I followed your steps and it worked, but it only stores the settings on the current loop. How can I safe these settings for the whole system?

Good point, though it's hard to think of anything else the Mkii falls short on. You can program the knobs under the screen to adjust the input level as a workaround.
The build quality feels a tiny by cheaper. There's an issue with tracks still making sound with the fader all the way down. My track 4 fader does this.
@@JohnBeegPapaGardener thank you for your reply. I've been bitten by loop stations and fancy trying one out. I play handpan, didgeridoo and jaw harp and a tiny bit of piano although I don't have my own piano. I think these looping stations have a lot of creative possibilities. I also saw the rc202 as a good entry level option. Not sure what to get. Ideally I'd like to try them first in a shop or sth with someone who can guide me through the basics. I can always also just RTM but that's more tedious.
Hi John . Great tutorial . I bought a Korg PS-3 pedal switch and it doesn’t work. It doesn’t records the loops. The light on play /stop button flickers green then switches off. Do you reckon I should buy a Boss fs6 pedal to get it to work ? Cheers ! George
I just realised that if i give only 1 function to the pedal in those settings like Start/ Stop it works. If i try to assign 3 functions to the pedal it’s not working.
@@georgecosmin5310 Did that solve your problem? You really don't need anything fancy. The FS6 is nice because you get two buttons per input, but it's not necessary. Mine is a $20 yamaha sustain pedal.
Great vid!!!!,I followed your every instruction my pedal works as it should However after I record my first track then push track 2 and hit pedal it overdubs first track same with 3,4,5......always overdubs track 1......any advice?

Man thanks…what a pain in the ass tho…I followed you and got all my tracks assigned to my fs-6 foot switch…then I turned the machine off and lost all the programming!! Do you literally have to do this every time you want to do this??!
You need to spin it a very long time, I had to watch John's vid a couple times to finally realize they are just way down on the list, but they are there, Hat's off to John on this!
Is anyone losing all of the settings when you turnoff/unplug the 505? I just set it all up was working great and then I turned it off and it’s all gone! What a royal pain in the ass if you have to do all that every time you turn it off!
Hey great stuff, I linked to this vid with my FS-6 how to but did not get into the current track setups, big help, but their is a bunch of twisting the knobs to get to the parameters you used, thanks: ua-cam.com/video/O12MvKHMNXA/v-deo.html

That's how I felt about the MK1. Serious oversight!
@JohnBeegPapaGardener what do you mean? The mk1 couldn't do it at all?

Well that was solid advice. Please more videos like this👌😝
Thank you so much! This is literally the reason why I bought this!
Thank you so much! This saved me hours of reading the manual and a broken brain
Dude you’re a legend. This has been driving me nuts and solves a huge problem. Thank you!
Happy to help. This should have been the first thing on their minds when they first made the mark I.
Same for me. Thanks so much for the hair pulling reduction! Funny too :-)
I might just keep this rc505. Was serious about going just foot set up like rc600 or rc5! Thx man!!
Thanks for this tutorial, you save me. If you come to italy my house is your house ❤❤
Amazing. I'm happy to help.
Useful video, thanks
I would have never figured this out by using the manual ;)
This should be an on/off feature, not needing to 'burn" 5 assign slots, but thank you very much for this solution !
I followed these steps and used a Proline PSS10 Universal Sustain Pedal (keyboard pedal) and it worked. The pedal cost me $15 at Guitar Center.
That's real value!

Brilliant. This should be the default. Thanks.
Super, super helpful. Good work calling it out, getting 'er found out, and telling us hungry souls. Alexa how much cheaper is an F6 than an FCB1010
Never mind the F6, a generic piano sustain pedal will do the trick!
You saved my life
I like how you used a holder for sheet music to hold the looper
Thank you. It's strapped to the keyboard stand to resist the hard tapping.
Thanks, man! This is great!
Thank-you for this info... man this has been frustrating me up to now!
Thank you! This should be automatically in place without having to waste assign slots but oh well, thanks for solving this ! Big help!

Great help! Can you achieve this also with an FS-6?
Yes, plus you get a whole extra footswitch. I used to have this setup with current track play/rec on one button and all stop/start on the other one
@@JohnBeegPapaGardener perfect, thank you!
Awesome but what can i use for a pedal to switch, must it be a momentary switch ?
I think any momentary switch will do.
