  • The Brian Jonestown Massacre formed in 1990 in San Francisco, becoming one of the most influential and controverse bands of the 90's. The bands' amazing story has been told in the wonderful documentary "Dig!" that still is one of the best movies about music. Anton Newcombe invited us to his new studio in Berlin to record the classic "Anemone".

    __________________________________
Cardinal Sessions was founded in the summer of 2010. They challenge the classic music video and try to replace impersonal footage with immediate and emotional snapshots.
Bands from all over the world with their different genres present their songs reduced to the essence of the musical spectrum - only vocals and unplugged instruments. Due to the spontaneous live-aspect and the approach to record every song without any additional rehearsal, songs emerge that often sound significantly different to their album versions.
We film on locations that the musicians mostly choose by themselves: remote places, frequented streets, parks, woods, fields, bars; nothing is impossible. We have accomplished our goal if the location fits well to the background of the music we and the artists want to present. But our most important purpose is that there are no borders: we film everything that we like, no matter how popular, famous or also unknown a band might be. It is still important for us to support local talents and it will always stay part of our concept.
The Cardinal Sessions team can also be booked: for example to film short documentaries of album recordings, studio recordings or live concert moments that you want to capture.

They deserved to have this tremendously cool song, like no other. BJM always stood real! It's one of those realest bands that you love and respect them as a personas as much as you love their music. They will do whatever the fuck they want, and nobody would stop them. Cause, they're not sellouts! And those who gives 0 fucks about money and fame, creates amazing things, creativity and self-expression only possible if you're free! Take the motion track that's playing in this video, for example. There are no similar tracks like this one, that's unique as fuck! And the fact how cool this song is makes you think about the person who created it, how did he felt, during this time of period. I love music the most, because it tells you the feelings of humans that is impossible to describe, and music is the only thing it can be expressed with. You can't find another BJM and I have so much respect for Anton, especially, and that's not the first time I'm saying that. I felt like I always knew I should find something which should fully fit in my soul, and I have finally found it, goddamn it!

I think his popularity contributed heavily to that, like how airline nationals became super pricy after jack white's iconic one.

It's like Joel is the metronome for so many live performances and he has a perfect Charlie Watts approach.

Heard this a couple of days ago: BJM UK tour - Kentish Town O2 Forum - sell-out concert and very appreciative crowd singing and dancing along. Thanks for the 'selfie' Anton - it will be treasured! Song could be a troubled relationship 'anthem'.

Some comments refer to drug-like effect of this music. I've never 'done' hard drugs and now don't need to! Love you Anton. See you at this (Cardinal) venue (London) 15 Feb, '22.

They are one of the greatest bands of my generation they just had bad luck with fighting between eachother And Anton Got to love his talented crazy ass pure genius not just with these boys but other artists and beyond gifted blessed from the ones above people said he was crazy no he just knew too much that happens when one has such a great gift from god and a splash of the times back then lots of mind opening substances do mix those together you get a amazingly mad genius who knows how to make amazing songs

Such concentration on Joel playing the headless tambourine. I like to think he gets a full share like all the other musicians. Maybe it seems easy because I’m not a musician. He’s like the real life embodiment of Will Ferrell’s cowbell guy. Or like dancing guy Ben Carr from the Mighty Mighty Bosstones. You go Joel!

Couldn't agree with you more. Saw them in Manchester and Joel was centre stage. When he came on people cheered, the impression being that he was the mascot of the band but for the next 2 hours he proved exactly why he's a driving force, the sound coming of that tambourine is BJMs signature in every song, amazing and consistent, doesn't miss a beat

Sounds good...artists should record this way for the actual album and put it out
