I must comment on the Stephens Johnson syndrome because my father had it in November 1990. He spent a full month in the burn unit of the St. Francis hospital in Wichita Kansas. The medical professionals used steer wool in a sterile hot tub to and my dad coded during this procedure. I would not refer to this as a nasty rash since it was responsible for my father’s death. I’m pleased that you explained what addiction meant and what physical dependence meant on this video. Simply to set the record straight for medical specialists that manipulate the narrative, or just for members of the public that mix them up. For example medical specialists that dislike benzo’s are likely to call physical dependence “addiction” in the case of benzo’s, yet would refer to the same thing as just “discontinuation” with SSRIs. I admit that Benzo physical dependence could carry more serious risks than SSRI physical dependence, depending what the risk factors are, but I both drugs the feeling of been unwell is still caused by the brain and body struggling to function normally once the drug is removed too quickly. I’m glad you pointed out that addiction relates more to cravings. I wouldn’t demonise any medications since they often are guilty of different pitfalls, but I agree then benzo’s aren’t likely to provide a long term solution for anxiety, and could possibly exasperate it even more. But then I’d also say that’s true with SSRIs. Most people that use them and stop too quickly re-emerge with a more serious form of depression than the one that got them on the medication. Members of the public have the right to understand that this is the consequence of physical dependence. But you explained this well here

Hi. I’ll provide you a response to your question. Both are methylphenidate. There is no structural chemistry difference at all. Concerta is just the extended release version of Ritalin (methylphenidate). Some forms of ER Ritalin have anti abuse additives , such as compounds that burn or irritate the nose if someone wants to snort it. There is not great evidence that these drugs work effectively in adults. They also come with a lot of baggage as they are schedule 2 drugs and heavily regulated. If you can avoid having to take them I would try. If you find it useful your Dr will likely try to get you to the controlled release version. Another issue is controlled release versions of many drugs actually result in sub clinical blood levels of the drug. Some people will , likely accurately, claim it doesn’t work as well as the immediate release version. Another issue to contemplate is that many Drs won’t prescribe these meds to an adult. I see a lot of people get on them because they have an open minded prescriber, only to be abruptly cut off if that prescriber retires or gets a love letter from the DEA regarding their schedule 2 scripts. So while they might make you feel like you can concentrate better there’s a lot of hang ups with depending on them. I hope this help and hope you feel better !

Cold fingers and toes is a result of not ENOUGH blood circulation in the peripheries. That could present itself as a problem. Hi, Could you please post a video on Catatonia. My daughter is on benzodiazepines since last 2 yrs and developed Akathisia. Also, they are not helping with Catatonia though doctors said that is the first line of treatment.

I know you are against benzodiazepines, but many anxiety and depression meds cause issues. I took propranolol, it was horrendous. Should we not take any medication? You make me afraid to take what I need. Thank you for the extra anxiety 🙏
I'm taking for generalized anxiety,10mg 3x day. when I was inpatient Blood Pressure/Pulse taking 3x a Day and few times was low. If it helps lower anxiety it subtle, I don't really any different. Once it helped having Akathisia real bad(excessive movement/restlessness from a Psychotropic medication. I use to take the Benzothiazine's and I felt they helped, relaxing the body and mind. ,especially for sleep. Yet most DR.s won't prescribed them due to the concern for dependency/addictive quality with long term use. I also have tried Busbar ,No, Celexa/Zoloft No, and now also take Hydroxyzine 50 mg, 2x a day with little relief.
I hated propranolol, prescribed for atrial fibrillation. The smallest dose l started on made me so weak and tired that l felt l was carrying 25 lb. weights on each foot. The cardiologist l was referred to told me to stop taking it just before my first visit, and not knowing any better, l did as he said. The withdrawals were horrendous: l felt like fainting, my heart rate went up to 180 bpm, so he by-passed the stress test - and l was a-fibbing like crazy. It did *nothing* for anxiety. Nope to propranolol for me.
It seems that you a very small group. The majority of comments seem to tell otherwise on how helpful it is. Hopefully you'll find the right meds for you.
when i took it, it did nothing, although the hydroxyzine it did work but i take seroquel and gabapentin if i take a hydro i basically induce a od and sleep for the next 8hrs, i now have a backup supply of klonopin it’s not even really addictive not because it makes you feel good like hydro, but it makes you feel perfect, like nothing can affect you it lets me think straight if i’m like, bambambambambambam and then it turns into an overload (panic attack) so then i have to take klonopin but now i’m hoping the gabapentin will start kicking in and i’ll be better, crazy how a medication for seizures and fibromyalgia can work so good for someone with an overactive brain
That may be true for some people, but not everyone can tolerate ashwaghanda. 5HTP will work similar to the antidepressants and can have similar side effects.
I don’t take propanol, but I do take a third generation beta blocker Bystolic after my double bypass surgery. It’s really expensive brand name but now it’s available as a generic.Bystolic doesn’t have any of the sedative effects whatsoever.i don’t think this beta blocker is what Dr.Heather Ashton would include in her stay away beta blockers?
It made me depressed. I already have a low heart rate. I haven’t worked out in 2 days cuz I feel low. My nurse practitioner just throws pills at me……….😢Ugh.
It does help with migraines and social anxiety but I tough I was going to die after just one week of taking 40mg once a day. Chest pains shortened of breath and cold feet. It was so scary I tough I was going to faint. Never again.
Different mechanism of action and Buspirone is not for rescue anxiety. Buspirone is meant for long term use and effects are noted in 4 to 6 weeks. So if you're looking for quick relief, then propranolol. Long-term management, Buspirone.
The size effect for busbar is so insignificant that it’s to be considered worthless. Any response is likely placebo. Off the top of my head it’s 0.18 or so… really shouldn’t be used now that we know this ..
Approx. 6 yrs on 160 mg Propranolol to help with severe essential hand tremors and anxiety. It does help. Thank you for such detailed information. None of the many, many doctors I've been to have advised me on this. I was told 80 mg twice daily was the maximum dose. I have fibromyalgia (25yrs dx) and they give me lidocaine patches which I look the the Marshmallow man when I put them on where it hurts. Which is everywhere 😂. I didn't know about the contraindications. In addition to cymbalta to help with the fibromyalgia, and xanax for agoraphobia.
11:31 that's when I know someone does not understand anxiety. Yeah let me just tell my panic attack to wait until I can be with a doctor so that I can use my skills to decrease my fear anxiety attack. This is very very very upsetting to hear. Pill help! Can we maybe go without them? Not until everyone has free access to mental health doctors
What is the usual dose for migraine? My doctor recently gave it to me for migraine and tachycardia prescribed 10 mg twice a day just started a few days ago. Seems to be helping. I would assume that 20 mg dose is pretty low and would have less side effects.
Interesting, my psychiatrist and my Pharm D put me on this to counter tremors and spontaneous tossing of handheld items, like coffee. Tremors due to prolonged use of diazepam as part of bipolar cocktail. Can't take clonidine as causes me psychosis, but the propranolol does seem to help my tremors.

I was recently put on propranolol for anxiety and palpitations. I am a soon to be medically retired service member who didnt start having palpitations until after I had covid. Now I find it hard to enguage in Cardio activities without triggering longer than normal palpitations. Once my palpitations begin it triggers my now much more aggressive anxiety. Do you think this will work for me or have any insight to how I can become active again?
by the way what do you think about other types of beta blockers, like metoprolol and atenolol? not everyone can take propranolol because of medication interactions or other reasons more specific betablockers might be a bit less effective but could have less side effects maybe since its targeting just that one pathway
I've used metoprolol for years for anxiety/racing heart. Idk. It takes too long to kick in for a panic attack, but it helps to slow my heart down once it kicks in, or in preparation for situations I know I'll be anxious.

There are a lot of factors to consider. But propranolol is not like a benzo. Most people can tolerate cutting the dose by 25 to 50% every 2 to 4 weeks. However, you must always taper any medication under the direction of your doctor so they can factor in your individual variables.
80 mg of propranolol 1.5 hours before a presentation = impossible to have a panic attack. You will still feel anxious but your body will not betray you.

I already take its sister drug -metoprolol (another beta-blocker) and it's tough to stand the cold. How can I contact you, Dr? I am in India since 2011. The currency difference between the dollar and the Indian rupee is crazy now. Thank you.
Hi, Could you please post a video on Catatonia. My daughter is on benzodiazepines since last 2 yrs and developed Akathisia. Also, they are not helping with Catatonia though doctors said that is the first line of treatment.
I hat 20years tremor which was situational and REALLY limiting my Life. Now i got it since a few days and I am really thankful! Ah, extreme swetting was also bis Problem.
Wow, thanks for the information. You're amazing!
You're welcome 😊 Thanks for watching.
I know you are against benzodiazepines, but many anxiety and depression meds cause issues. I took propranolol, it was horrendous. Should we not take any medication? You make me afraid to take what I need. Thank you for the extra anxiety 🙏
Propranolol has been a life saver for me sorry to hear it didnt help you
What did it do for you?
Thank you for this excellent presentation!
when i took it, it did nothing, although the hydroxyzine it did work but i take seroquel and gabapentin if i take a hydro i basically induce a od and sleep for the next 8hrs, i now have a backup supply of klonopin it’s not even really addictive not because it makes you feel good like hydro, but it makes you feel perfect, like nothing can affect you it lets me think straight if i’m like, bambambambambambam and then it turns into an overload (panic attack) so then i have to take klonopin but now i’m hoping the gabapentin will start kicking in and i’ll be better, crazy how a medication for seizures and fibromyalgia can work so good for someone with an overactive brain
U are a brilliant lady💕
I take half a tablet for my anxiety and it has stopped my panic attacks
Dear mam, excellent medicine for anxiety and tremors in hand and feet.
Only for the simptoms of anxiety, but better works Ashwagandha or 5-HTP, with no side effects
I heard it can be used for benzo like clonazepam withdrawal...can you let me know more about that ?
Mam please make a video about agomelatine combination with escitalopram my doctor prescribed it
It made me depressed. I already have a low heart rate. I haven’t worked out in 2 days cuz I feel low. My nurse practitioner just throws pills at me……….😢Ugh.
can we get a hydrox video would like to know more about why hydro worked for me but propranolol didn’t even treat my akathisia
Yes, hydroxyzine video is coming out next week. 🙌
Thank you so much, very helpful information.
Prop...is good for me... great channel...
Subbed!
It does help with migraines and social anxiety but I tough I was going to die after just one week of taking 40mg once a day. Chest pains shortened of breath and cold feet. It was so scary I tough I was going to faint. Never again.
Is it safe to take 10 or 20mg as needed for anxiety if you are already taking hypertension medication (Candesartan and Amlodipine)?
No
I've taken it with amlodipine for years. Zero side effects for me.
Would you advise against taking it for anxiety before a dental procedure due to the lidocaine interaction?
Is this as bad as Guanfacine ER?????? I had no idea of these long term effects.
Thank you! Is it better than Buspar? Thank you
Different mechanism of action and Buspirone is not for rescue anxiety. Buspirone is meant for long term use and effects are noted in 4 to 6 weeks. So if you're looking for quick relief, then propranolol. Long-term management, Buspirone.
@@LevelheadedMindmany thanks
The size effect for busbar is so insignificant that it’s to be considered worthless. Any response is likely placebo. Off the top of my head it’s 0.18 or so… really shouldn’t be used now that we know this ..
DIAZEPAM 2MG IS LIFE SAVING FOR MY ANXIETY
Thank you. I get dry cough and it really made me sleepy at 40 mg twice a day
Iv been prescribed all three of those and none of them worked even slightly.
Great video. If you can do a video on Clonazepam for anxiety.
What do you think of Valsartan, another blood pressure med, for anxiety and depression?
11:31 that's when I know someone does not understand anxiety. Yeah let me just tell my panic attack to wait until I can be with a doctor so that I can use my skills to decrease my fear anxiety attack. This is very very very upsetting to hear. Pill help! Can we maybe go without them? Not until everyone has free access to mental health doctors
I think the real danger with Benzo’s is is that synaptic mechanisms that allow them to act on gaba stops functioning with over use.
It doesn’t do anything for me when i take 20mg for social anxiety, and i have a huge problem with muscle tension, maybe i need to increase my does?
They need to up the dosage. It says 40mg or more would actually take care of anxiety related symptoms.
Will propranolol help to calm down the nervous system and decrease sympathetic tone?
I have high hopes for my new prescription of propranolol I tried hydroxyzine but it made me too tired to function.
As if it's not my life. Fight or flight vs benzodiazepine? Benzodiazepines are a life saver, and this war on patients is getting old!
I got propanolol today from a pharmacy without doctor's prescription, i have very bad social anxiety and I'll have to prepare presentations for university soon and i have been more anxious ever since.
Do you think i should take them? I need some advice.
Edit: i still haven't taken it.
Absolutely! Very mild so you don’t "feel" the effects, but you will be much better at presenting while using it. I advise taking it 1 hour before you are due to present.
Did you take it? how did the presentation go?
Im on Effexor XR 225mg and Mirtazipine 15mg (at night)
My panic attacks are under control but i still have physical symtoms of anxiety.
Started Effexor February 2023 on 75mg. 225mg since 2 weeks ago.
What could be added for anxiety symptoms? (not benzos)
Thanks for all the great videos. God bless.
Sounds like propranolol....
Gabapentin or seroquel
Vitamin D 3 B1, magnesium glycinate
Can I ask what physical symptoms you have? I have a variety of ones that have completely ruined my life.
Symptoms: vertigo, hot flushes and cold sweaty hands
2nd days take propanolol so far so good
Can you take a low dose of propanolol for acute anxiety if you’re already taking a low dose of atenolol daily for slightly high blood pressure?
No
What's your thoughts on Bupropion?
Buspar is great for Anxiety.
can I take propranolol to control my excessive sweating especially when I am anxious?.
How does this compare to Atenolol? I find atenolol more effective without the respiratory side effects of propanolol
Propramolol works best for me
I was recently put on propranolol for anxiety and palpitations. I am a soon to be medically retired service member who didnt start having palpitations until after I had covid. Now I find it hard to enguage in Cardio activities without triggering longer than normal palpitations. Once my palpitations begin it triggers my now much more aggressive anxiety. Do you think this will work for me or have any insight to how I can become active again?
by the way what do you think about other types of beta blockers, like metoprolol and atenolol? not everyone can take propranolol because of medication interactions or other reasons
more specific betablockers might be a bit less effective but could have less side effects maybe since its targeting just that one pathway
I've never used other beta blockers for anxiety so I can't say.
I've used metoprolol for years for anxiety/racing heart. Idk. It takes too long to kick in for a panic attack, but it helps to slow my heart down once it kicks in, or in preparation for situations I know I'll be anxious.
Can propranolol make you feel depressed? can propranolol lead to reduced effectiveness of escitalopram?
thank you it was so helpful❤
Is this okay to use with Marijuana use? and PMDD
Hydroxyzine Knox me right out, and I have residual sleepiness the next day and that causes me to get depressed
what if normotensive pt start taking propranolol 40 mg daily ? , on withdrawal pt might develop htn ?
Not necessarily, most likely rebound of what their BP was prior to medication.
I'm scared to take it cause I'm sensitive to meds they want me to take it for hypertension and anxiety 10 mg twice a day im so sensitive to meds someone help plus cause my heart to beat to low I have been on Xanax for 35 years heard you can have hallucinations from it please help
I took propranolol and loved it, but my heart rate dropped too low so I had to stop taking it.
I just got prescribed Clonidine, wish me luck! Going to watch your clonidine video now.
I also take hydroxizine
@@GTIZmoKiDD my doc gave me 10mg tablets and I cut them in half. It only made me bradycardic when I was sleeping but it was honestly AMAZING for panic attacks
@@GTIZmoKiDDI take 2 20 mg a day im just fine it works great for me
@@GTIZmoKiDD did you take the 20mg and howd work for you?
It's okay to eat it before Conducting seminar ?
Can you use while tapering off a benzi?
Anyone please answer this question!! I have the same doubts
This stuff made my heart race so bad. It gave me anxiety!
I reduces heart rate
Im 100 percent sure it did not
😮
Diffrence in Clonidine and Propranolol??
Can you do a video on prazosin please?
How would you taper off propranolol??
Please don't tell me to talk to my doctor I'm asking you how would you taper down this medication 5% of the time 1 mg at a time
There are a lot of factors to consider. But propranolol is not like a benzo. Most people can tolerate cutting the dose by 25 to 50% every 2 to 4 weeks. However, you must always taper any medication under the direction of your doctor so they can factor in your individual variables.
@@LevelheadedMind thank you
I like the clicking that people are complaining about it helps me focus 😅😂
Prazosin for PTSD ?
80 mg of propranolol 1.5 hours before a presentation = impossible to have a panic attack. You will still feel anxious but your body will not betray you.
I got PTSD from your sound effects in your video
Better than benzo, benzos is destroying my life.
Is Propranolol like Hydroxyzine?
ı barely tell the dıfference wıth thıs . but ıt doesnt make me drowsy , lıke dıazepam
Does it help with anxiety? I already take another beta-blocker for my hypertension.
@@ranjittyagi9354 reduces heart rate , at large doses, for me
but to really reduce anxıety , ı recommend 20mg propranolol, 20mg dıazepam, and some alchohol..before bed
Got my follow.
Next video doesn't need sound effects 😢 please
Is this the same as metoprolol?
No, propranolol impacts the entire body, where as metoprolol targets the heart.
@@msssss9115 so maybe that one is better for anxiety?
Dont take this if you are an active person who likes to exercise. I couldn’t even go up a set of stairs without feeling like i was about to faint. Very scary
Klonopin is way better for me. I take it as needed….tiny dose
JUST realized that it should be pronounced “proPRANolol” , not “proPANolol”…right?! My mind is blown because I’ve always said it the second way, apparently she does too!
can it help with specific phobias?
My doctor prescribed me this and refused to give me anything else unless I tried this. But I don't want to bc it slows down yr heart rate and affects the blood vessels. I want something that will relax my nervous system like benzos or alcohol does
Did you discuss this concern with your doc?
@@azuremoon-4 yeah but she said it's "not even a heart medication anymore". That was pointless saying that bc it was a heart medication at one point. But anyway I decided to just try it today actually bc a lot of people say it works for them and Im kinda desperate now and have a busy week with meeting loads of people so I have to take something. I just hope it works
@@laremabella Mhm I hope it works and please don't forget to write your review to me too!

I have healthy blood pressure and heart so for me I feel it's not worth it and I don't want to try a higher dose. I'm gonna ask doctor for something else. Maybe it will work for u?

The side effects... no thank you!
Yeah but you won’t have any anxiety about it. 😂
You're welcome!
Then try benzodiazepines. Little to no side effects.
I’m a side effect queen and I don’t feel almost any side effect. I just feel calm. I’m presently surprised.
