Hydroxyzine
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 лип 2020
- Hydroxyzine will be prescribed more than 7 million times this year. Originally known as Atarax and Vistaril, hydroxyzine is an antihistamine in the same family as Benadryl or diphenhydramine. Unlike the newer non-sedating antihistamines, hydroxyzine readily passes into the brain and causes sleepiness.
Hydroxyzine remains available by prescription only. It assists in treatment of a veritable menu of conditions ranging from allergies to itch and motion sickness to anxiety. Hydroxyzine provides sedation and may be useful as a non-addictive sleeping pill. It may also boost the analgesic effect of opioids.
Side effects associated with hydroxyzine appear similar to the other antihistamines. Recent concerns in Europe suggest some individuals appear susceptible to electrocardiographic abnormalities that may lead to cardiac arrhythmias. For this reason the EMA, the European equivalent of the FDA, suggests as low a dose as possible for as short a period as feasible. Those concerns do not seem to be mirrored in the United States.
Due to hydroxyzine’s likelihood of causing sedation, caution seems appropriate when engaging in any activities that require mental alertness. It might pose a danger to drive a motor vehicle or operate heavy equipment while under the effects of the drug. The half life of hydroxyzine rises from 14 hours in an adult to nearly 30 hours in senior citizens.
One of the metabolic by-products of hydroxyzine is cetirizine. This later compound is the generic of Zyrtec, a popular non-sedating antihistamine. Interestingly of all of the non-sedating antihistamines, Zyrtec seems most likely to cross into the central nervous system and promote sleepiness.

"Little bit difficult to get off benzodiazepines". That's an understatement. I never experienced anything nearly as horrible as Xanax withdrawal and it took a long long time to taper off with Valium. I wish my doctor would've given me hydroxyzine instead way back then. I can and have quit hydroxyzine cold turkey with no problems
Yep. Almost died from benzo withdrawal! Peace ✌️

I have allergies and have anxiety reactions with every antihistamines my doctor has given me. She just prescribed this today. I’m actually excited to try this. Fingers crossed that it works.
I have severe allergies and this works really good for hives....and anxiety. It makes you really slow down after about an hour and and half after you take it. Be prepared to either take a nap or try to fight it the best you can by keeping active. I've been using it off and on for years and it still has the same effect on me. I only take as needed... meaning only when I am covered in hives and can't stand the itchiness anymore. It works almost right away for allergies.
It works ! 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Did it work? I wanted benzos and ended up getting super Benadryl LOLs

I got home with my prescription and immediately took it. I sort of forgot I took it but probably within 15 minutes I remembered and thought "theres no way its already working" sure enough i looked it up and the effects can be that quick. It is a miracle drug for me personally. The downside is it makes me sleepy. I will take sleepiness over terrible overthinking and rumination any day until I can learn how to handle it without medication
Do you take it in the morning? Or before bed?
@@kurbicksan4917 It honestly just depends on life. I don't take it every day but I will if I have something big going on or anytime I'm feeling particularly anxious. Ill take it consistently if I'm doing something new until I can get comfortable without it. I deal with anxiety everyday but it just depends on how bad it is.
I take it every night because it also helps as a sleep aid. It seems as if it loses the effectiveness the more you take it so I try to limit my usage
Thank you for this information! Wishing all the best!
Thank you! You too!
Last week I was having a huge panic attack and I remembered I had these pills. I took two 10 mgs and I felt like all of the anxiety and paranoia just lifted. It's non addictive. I want to have this medication for the rest of my life to counter those horrible panic nights.
But, doesn’t it take a while for the effects to kick in?
@NOV123 nope...works within 20 minutes

Could not feel any difference at first, but slept better. Woke up strong and upbeat. Changed my life, still cant "feel" a difference when awake. Sleep amazingly!
How are you doing now, a year later?
I’ve never seen the benefit of this drug for anxiety...I wish I did. The doctors are running from benzos even for those who need it. I’m hoping drugs like this that work for some people can help us tackle anxiety regularly. This is such a debilitating disease and to know it CAN be treated, but that we haven’t found a class of medications in which the benefits outweigh the risks, is just sad. I hope we figure this out in my lifetime, but I’m not holding my breath. Regardless, thanks for the videos. I always consult your lectures before initiating a medication
GABA and L-Theanine work well without side effects or dependency
@@mattwatts33 if im not mistaken, GABA is placebo as the supplement doesnt cross the blood brain barrier. l-theanine does, though.
So I am an alcoholic who is weaning off alcohol. I can't stop completely because it causes massive anxiety issues and can be dangerous. I told the doctor I cannot have any type of narcotic, but I need something to help control the anxiety and some other symptoms. They prescribed this to me and it has worked wonders. First couple of days it caused me to be quite sleepy, but after a while it just kinda... calms me down. I am super happy they went with this medicine to help me go through what I'm doing. So far I'm down to about half the amount of alcohol I drink and I regularly just don't want to drink (thank god). The loss of concentration is real, but it isn't anything crazy. Seems that the first few days are when the symptoms are the most common.
the way I use these things for my sleep benzos would be better for my health I don't have a problem with abusing drugs if I don't want to, I just want to go to sleep at a good time peacefully...

Thank you so much for the information! Earlier this year, my heart rate just went up and wouldn’t go back down. I thought it was because of food poisoning but it began to happen every night, I literally was not able to sleep. Started taking this in 25 mg form, and I sleep quite well every night now. Any night I don’t take it, it’s that sleepless hell all over again. I normally have postnasal drip and a slightly runny nose so the antihistamine part of it just makes it even better. This stuff is great
So your heart is still beating fast
You may simply have high blood-pressure (hypertension) as I do. Mine came on after a heart-attack. Propanolol is used for this as well as anxiety. Rhere's also Atenolol. I wonder if you have HBP and anxiety; ask your doctor. Good night, sleep tight!
Kilowag Magnusson My cardiologist actually prescribed metoprolol to me. It’s sort of the same as atenolol, I think? I only take it when the heart rate in general, throughout the entire day, doesn’t seem to settle down… Ironically today is one of those days, I’m going to take some when I get home as well as the hydroxyzine. Maybe I do have high blood pressure...
Tyrone Demps only at night time, but it seems like I actually just got food poisoning last year, and the bad experience was so traumatizing that I freaked out at night time now. The pills help me to calm down
I started taking it in December in rehab, 100mg every 6hrs as needed. Gave me bad cotton mouth and very vivid scary dreams and hallucinations. Dr cut it down to 50mg to sleep. Still dream but not as bad, I still wake up and see things but it goes away after I blink a few times. One thing I learned about drugs is everybody’s different. God bless and good luck!
Hello Doctor, thank you for the very useful information, my wife’s having issues with itchy skin issues and the doctor prescribes her this medication but she is sleepy since she took it and I’m wondering how long gonna be sleepy if 25 mg.

My doctor prescribed this for me 3 x a day 25 mg for histamine storm I've experienced for 5 months now. I only take it once a day its so strong.
Wow..what a dr....I need u as my Dr.4 real....I've never heard a Dr.ralk like this...u are so interesting I could learn so much from u....thank u so much...I take 2 a day at 50mgs.for anxiety...it dont make me sleepy it helps alittle but I guess if it helps some is better then none at all.....
I really appreciate Atarax, I only take it a few times a year but it works well without being overwhelming
I’m starting today couse my anxiety. I’m already in Paxil but my panic attacks still happening. I have all my hope in this medication now that I’m seeing thins. Thanks doc!
As someone that takes hydroxyzine alone. I can say it does help. But the flip side is that I've been using it for years and like all things it slowly becomes a norm or you're just used to it so basically im saying you'll be good for awhile than once it doesn't do its job its time to move on to other meda

Hey there.... just a tip from me. I was prescribed Doxepin for depression and trouble sleeping. I was on it about 10 years. Meanwhile I thought maybe I could do without the doxepin. Doc had me taper off and was ok at first but then I got this really awful sensitivity to touch. It would start as an itch that would turn into a very painful burning itch. Even a slight touch could set it off. I tried about 2 months and had to go back on. Later another doctor changed it to hydroxyzine. It works well for me. I don't know if I had an unusual reaction coming off the doxepin but it was torture. Thanks for this good lesson.... I learned from you and it's the first time I've come across you.
This guys so good at getting to it all… that I forget what drug he’s taking about?
Doctor, you are well-versed in this knowledge, impressive. How does Hydroxyzine compare to Diphenhydramine in regards to potential irregular heartbeats? I use Atenolol following a heart-attack three years ago.
Did you ever use hydroxyzine? I have heart palpitations
Ive never learned this much about a medication in that short amoutn of time lol. It was like I was reading a book omg.
I take 25 mg for my anxiety n it calms me n helps me sleep
Thank you so much 😊
Very good. Thank you.
Absolutely great and fast acting. The only thing is you didn’t say if the side effects will go away after time. I started on the 10mg once a day but yes, 10 min after, right back to bed and slept again for 2 hours and woke up with a hangover kinda. I’m taking 5 mg three times a day. Will the sleepy thing diminish over time?
We're you able to sleep the whole night with it?
honestly i think that ritalin and prozac combo made me hate stimulants because my brain puts out so much dopamine that i dont even feel stimulants except nothing but the negative side effects
Thank you for this knowledge I love watching your videos when I am on a new drug that my doctor prescribed to me. I have panic attacks sometimes. Last month I had a bad panic attack and I was rushed to the emergency room and they prescribed me this medicine now I haven’t been taking since I been home, but I do have sleepless nights. I’m going to start taking them more often but thank you again for this knowledge.
I do take hydroxyzine at night because if I take it during the day and get sleepy, I’ll wake up depressed which is very bad
Is it still makes you sleepy ??

In the 80s and 90s doctors prescribed this with pain pills to make the opioids stronger. I hated how it made me feel for about 3 days. I appeared intoxicated for all that time but it just felt like I couldn't wake up ! It was not pleasant at all and didn't help my pain ! I will never take this ever again--------
Thanks doc 🦋
Thank you
Hydroxyzine took my anxiety from a solid 10 down to a 3.
That's awesome!! I got it prescribed today, do you get drowsy? My anxiety is huge, also I get panic attacks.
It causes drowsy,take at bedtime

I love hearing this man talk! ❤❤❤❤
Woke up from a long sleep. He yawned, stretched, and at last opened his eyes completely. For two minutes, however, he lay in his bed without moving, as though he were not yet quite certain whether he were awake or still asleep, whether all that was going on around him were real and actual, or the continuation of his confused dreams.
How about for an epileptic patient with vaporate 200mg.
Well seizure in control but suffering severe anxiety with muscle stiffness?
This guy is amazing
As someone who suffers from restless leg syndrome, Hydroxyzine probably will set the legs off. It sets mine off whenever I take it which is why I cut each pill in half and take only half a dose.
Diphenhydramine used to dry me out like a desert
I take this Rx for Notalgia Parasthesia which is itching of the back in the shoulder area and for allergy attacks from artificial dyes like blue # 9 and yellow # 3.
Can you do one on Chlorpheniramine?

I’ve been on a handful of anxiety meds in my life and hydroxyzine does the absolute least for me. Zoloft made me throw up, buspar made me twitchy, lexapro made me aggressive and twitchy, and hydroxyzine no matter what dosage I fall asleep in about half an hour and that isn’t an answer for anxiety that just makes me not want to take it.
Agreed. This is a sleeping pill for me… I wasn’t anxious because I was asleep. Not the answer.
Yeah I have a small child and need to be able to function. Also have recent cardiac issues and I’ve heard it can cause arrhythmias so not sure why my doc thought this was the one 4 me
Oh that's good for me then cause I got it prescribed before bedtime to help with insomnia! I'm taking Prozac for my anxiety and panic disorder and it's been good!
Never mind this shit sucked.... Lol! I told my psych it didn't do anything and he prescribed me Trazadone.... Muuuuch better.
Take it right before bed and hydroxyzine works amazing! Obviously you need to sleep. If you can’t/refuse to fall asleep, then you have psychiatric issues that go beyond anxiety, bro.
Was just prescribed 50mg a day for sleep aid, and the results are in, I took 1/4 of a pill soon as I got them, didn't notice much and then I took the rest few hours later, was knocked out for a sold 10 hrs and woke up feeling pretty good. My opinion is cut these into what you're comfortable with, so you may have to take one to know what you can tolerate or how much sleep you want, but yes they will put you in la la land.
switched to Ambien, lot better choice though if you can.
Thx 4 sharing.
I have turettes syndrome and started taking this at age of 37 nothing worked before this one makes me sleep fast.

I Love this Man..God Bless You Sir...
My doc prescribed me 50mg tabs for anxiety/insomnia, but after a couple doses, I think I might need a lower dose, maybe 25mg. I take it at night before bed and it is effective, but I still feel very groggy for the first 2-3 hours in the morning and I can't have that. I need to wake up feeling energized so I can work out and get on with my day, but the last thing I want to do is work out when I wake up on this stuff. It saps my motivation.
Does it help with intrusive thoughts?
Can these help me with Alcohol withdraw? I’m not quitting cold turkey, but I’m week 2 of tapering and I have anxiety for about 3-4 hrs a day since cutting back

You need to take 50 pounds off, more than anything else.
This medicaiton helps a lot for people prescribed opiate pain medication, or people on MAT programs. It helps with itching, and anxiety brought on by the medication. It calms me down like a benzo but makes me a little sleepy sometimes. But its a much better every day medication then any benzo because there so hard to get off.
It helps a little for anxiety but it's no substitute for Benzos for relief. It won't stop a panic attack if you have one.

Which one is better for sleep also considering sideefects. Atarax benadryl or doxylamin?
Hydroxyzine is FAR more sedating than either benadryl or doxylamine. Second for sedation would be doxylamine then benadryl.
Sounds perfect for me. I cant sleep because im afraid of dying in my sleep.
