@@NobbyOnCars not at all.. if your opinion is valid, i'll agree with you but if your opinion just picking on things other cars also have then i'll roast you...
I think the comparisons with brands like bmw are laughable. Bmw and Mercedes are THE brands notorious for selling their brands nowadays instead of actual quality
I'm more and more inclined to get one of these BYD's as my next car. The performance and technology is better than the European domestic brands and currently beat them on price. They need to learn the art of minimalism on the badging though. It's like a Rolex with all that text on the back. At least they don't have the cheesy 'build your dreams' any more.
For an ev suv that will look to compete with tesla y,audi q6 etc this looks like more than capable to do so. The basic version of this starts from 48 thousand in Germany which can go several thousand less with state ev funding ( ofc depending on the country)and a very similar price tag for the basic Tesla model Y. But this has more autonomy on the basic version, better battery (blade) ( lfp type battery without cobalt which is the safest type in the industry) and kinda honestly at least on the exterior it looks a lot better ( curtesy of it's designer Wolfgang egger). Though i can see this being too expensive in the US because of the tarrifs.
Sadly the US would impose 100% tariffs if Chinese EVs made it to their shores. We have a BYD Performance AWD and it was about $15k AUD under being subject to a LCT (luxury car tax) which was originally as a "tariff" for imported vehicles to protect the then domestic auto industry. Great car though those far. One small problem which resolved itself, AC control issue (had similar with our 330i G20 BMW), so doesn't bother much as long as their are temp glitches. It's fast, excellent build quality, huge back seat, reliable (mostly haha), and the value can't be beat.
If they fix the ADAS (like they have here in Australia on our Seal AWD), suspension tuning, heated and ventilated rear seats, Center screen OS so the AC controls are on screen permanently, and get Conti or similar tyres, ill buy one. Even though it'll be a 4.5S versus our 3.8S, can live with it for an SUV. Our Seal Performance AWD has been great overall. One small issue (which resolved itself. Had similar issues with our 330i G20 BMW, so no biggy), but otherwise love it. The value is unbeatable.
Might be my first EV. I hope the HUD is not only on the higest AWD model. Will have to test drive to see if the body roll Nobby mentioned is a deal breaker. I'm guessing not for normal driving.
Nobby.... over 500hp and all the spec as standard.......it is undercutting the European competition at €60k(ish). Go spec up an Enyaq Vrs to this level of spec (and it's nowhere near the performance) and get back to me 😉 Do the same with an ID5 GTX etc etc. Forget about the entry level pricing. It pains me to say it......but at about 62 or 63 this will be a bargain.
The basic version is 48 thousand on Germany. That's around the basic version of Tesla model Y but with superior specs on things like battery ( lfp battery completely cobalt free ,safest in the industry). And depending on the country you'll probably get some state funding for ev since EU cofunds EVs. For example i could get 2700 euros flat reduction for this.
Nobby, another great review, although I think the price point for this car is a bit high. Tesla will really have to up their game with the new Model Y (Juniper) to match some of these Chinese cars. The problem which you have identified is the weight of these vehicles and the compromise that manufacturers have to strike with either a somewhat soft suspension or a harder ride to take account of the weight of the batteries. Obviously BYD have chosen the softer option with consequent effect on handling, where as Tesla Model Y has a harder suspension set up. One final point, I have never understood car reviewers constantly mention "harder plastics" in the lower reaches of cars. I would have thought, having driven quite a number of different brands, that hard plastics are what you want lower down in a car where feet come into contact with floors and doors to avoid damaging or marking them. By the way, BMW use quite a lot of hard plastics in their cars also! Keep up the great reviews.
I think we long for the old days when even down below felt a bit nicer. The entry model will be still packed with toys so may not be a need to go for the Excellence unless there’s specifics needed like AWD/towing etc

Anyway… when I saw the title of the video, my head said BYD Scallion… and now I can’t unsee it 🤪😄
Looks a nice car, but that price! Here in the UK, it’s way above the £40,000 luxury tax band coming in next April and I can’t help but think we just don’t need anymore fo these big, heavy SUV’s now. Smaller/cheaper cars are going to drive adoption - this one being the same price as a Model Y is going to struggle.
geez, how the "journalists" treat this... this car's target market is not driving it fast in winding roads in the mountains, its a commuter car to get you to work/kids to school and back home and occasionally going on vacations with it, if you want the previously stated, you get a sports car which is the intended use for the car. And at 45-60k euros no one provides the combination of upstanding interior without the horrible hard plastics (hear that mercedes and audi?), very good power(400+hp) and all wheel drive (looking at you renault with your flimsy 200 hp engines and front wheel only options, ah yes and skoda and vw too) and that power is useful in overtaking and accelerating into merging traffic (actual useful day to day situations and not driving into mountain passes twisty roads), amazing top of the line software (again hear this germans?) and amazing battery technology as opposed to all the europeans (only tesla competes here cuz u know they use bloody chinese batteries). This EV will outsell all european producers combined especially when byd finishes its plant in Szeged and will not pay a dime in import duties.

I had no doubt that you have seen and ridden them all. but then you will also have to secretly admit that the Audi A6/Q6, for example, not only has hard plastic at the bottom of the door, but even on top of the door panel. then we are talking about a car in the most equipped version for €95,000. Then the BYD could easily get more credit for its interior, given its price setting in the market. Just my thoughts of course. @NobbyOnCars
Personally i dont like the look of them at all neither inside but especially outside. Priced at 60 thousand in Europe means 70 minimum in rip off Ireland and that is ridiculous. I would pick up a BMW i4 or for an additional 5 thousand a Mercedes EQC... thats just a personal preference but they are by far of superior quality as opposed to the BYD (affordable brand) cars.
The basic version of this is 48 thousand euros in Germany which goes down even more with the state ev funding. Btw it's interesting that you think mercedes is superior in evs especially considering their latest ev series completely flopped . In fact they flopped so hard mercedes abandoned their long term strategy of making only EVs till 2030...
Not just Mercedes but globally the sales of EVs has flatlined this year and it is expected to follow trend into 2025 also. Even Tesla and Rivian have experienced a sharp decline in sales. Regarding my comparison between the German and Chinese manufacturers, I was talking about build quality and finish. I think the Chinese are ahead on battery development and technology but in MY OPINION the Germans have the better product from a build quality stance. Both in materials used and layout. My point was that if the price was close enough I would always choose a Mercedes, BMW or indeed Audi. But again that is only my opinion.
My last car was Audi Q4 etron. Wasn't impressed at all. The tech was very basic and quality inside bearable. Shame. I expected a lot more. Was lucky to test drive the BYD seal in the UK back in August. Absolutely loved the interior and the drive was far superior to the Audis. These German manufacturers better buckle up. They can't keep producing poor quality products and expect to sell for premium just by adding a badge in front. I am hoping once the Q4 etron is out of lease, I will consider the byd seal.
