One of the advantages of the bigger battery version is that you don't necessarily have to charge when you stop, so you you can stop where you want, rather than having to stop somewhere that has a charger, but not the type of food you might want to eat.
Another thing about the smaller battery version is it can only tow 300kg, while the big battery can tow 1000kg. Same motor, torque and actually less weight, so the smaller battery should be rated to tow more than 300kg.
THANK YOU for the visual overlay of the miles per kWh! :) In my old EV6, if I didn't want to charge my phone, I had to put it in the door hand-hole or in the cup holder where it used to flop around annoyingly.
22kw chargers are the standard for public fast charging. It is a standard that is not going anywhere. I will wait for the 22kw ac charging capability. It will be very useful while travelling.
I don't think anybody offers such detailed reviews, just simple stuff like speak to the dealer on a quite day and lean what the car can actually do, I search out your reviews and really respect your opinions.
Love those wheels, but “ is it worth the money now” was the question I came away with. The v brief comment on V2H/G implies that Kia aren’t really looking at this as a feature for development in this car. The standard heat pump in higher spec is good news. Here in the UK I feel a little underwhelmed at the value of this car. They are using a big battery as a substitute for efficiency 3.3 mile/kW isn’t that good for a car that size. I genuinely value your comments and opinion, and in its present packages at these prices I’m just not wowed enough yet.
Never used that battery , I have a 58kw enyaq , do about 40k km a year and end up charging 98% at home, it wouldn't waste my money on the bigger battery

Yeah it's mental to think this is where we are in 2024. The money you bring home does go far at all these days and car companies think 40k for something in this segment is affordable? Companies need to look at income stats and produce products that the majority can afford.

You need to incorporate into this amount the running costs also. So rather than paying less now and spread out over paying petrol / servicing, you pay it all up front. On my second EV now and they are wayyyyy cheaper to run. Charge it always from him which is good value, then serving in reality is tyres only. So 40k, yes that's expensive but think about how much you will pay over a 3 year period for an ICE vehicle for a comparable PCP
I drove the Elroq on a horrible wet day on the Škoda test track and really hammered it, totally floored it and threw it around a slalom course, not a single moment of lost traction. Not a bit. I think these are both great cars and at good prices but I'm converted to RWD on EVs now, I just think it's better.
Thanks for this, Mark. I'm currently considering going full EV after a year or so with a HEV. It's just charging infrastructure that puts me off. The EV3 looks the best EV yet for my needs - in 81 kW battery form.

I’d love an EV as the range is there now but as a company car owner the BIK reliefs are all disappearing and charging at home comes out of our own pockets whereas petrol is free via fuel card. There is no joined up thinking. For example home charging should be offset against BIK.
Love this … but also saw the Elroq yesterday in the RDS, and it’s a tough decision either way! Both have their pros and cons. Will keep the Soul a bit longer and see what deals are around the end of next year. Still loving the Soul after three years! Could do with a bigger boot and a lower boot load lip ( make it easier for the dog!). The Elroq boot sill is lower than the EV3. Approx 720mm vs. 800mm - the EV3 same then as the Soul. But Elroq doesn’t have a frunk. Have an aftermarket frunk in the Soul, and it’s just brilliant- for charge cables, air compressor, screen wash additive and a few tools and multimeter - coz I’m always getting asked to check or fix stuff. Oh, and jump pack in case of 12v battery issues! (Often starting neighbours diesel cars!) Prefer the driver controls on the Kia - though looks like the Elroq has a very good implementation of the VW infotainment. Which is why I went for the Soul rather than the ID3 - which I very nearly ordered. Anyway - great review again, Nobby. Disappointed I didn’t get to bump into you and say hello yesterday ! I want longer range batteries not because of range anxiety but because I am fed up of being charged 10 times more away from home than when charging at home.
Pity the blue isn’t coming to the UK. No heat pump unless top spec and a stupid table thingy upfront. Also don’t get the gap between luggage cover and rear seats. Think I will wait for the EV5 which hopefully will have a better ride height than the EV3 which is just too low for me.

Ain’t actually much different interior wise between the two although this is a smaller footprint car. Interior space in this is impressive. BYD is a higher car. You’ll fuel the EV3 for slightly less but the Seal U is nearly always using battery so if you charge it, it’s the same. Kia may have better residuals.

Car prices are insane for every new car these days. 35 thousand for a clio hybrid! 35 thousand for a good car, but the size of a shoebox. A polo near 30,000. It's crazy. Tiguan, in anything other than the base model, 57,000!
Firstly, if you go for anything except the base model and then add only metallic paint, you are over £40k and straight into £600 VED. Secondly, it looks like a storm troopers car, which seems to appeal to some, but looks ugly to me. That's personal choice though. The big battery makes it heavy, expensive and slow, compared to the competition. You pays your money, you takes your choice!
Top quality review. Can't wait to get back to Limerick, Galway, Peterswell and 4 types weather in one day. Why do we need fast phone chargers in cars? Just had a 5008 auto for a couple of days. Rear visibility quite poor with rear head rests up. And blind spot on drivers side. Missed the instant shove of EV and finally realised that petrol and diesel really don't make any sense. There really won't be any point in owning one in 4 or 5 years unless you accept that they have no value other than what the owner gets from it. Might rethink my decision to get a plug in hybrid. Don't want a Chinese/Indian owned car made under another badge. Fair play to the Koreans. Come on UK entrepreneur/government!! Get together & Start making batteries and a couple of simple cars in small and medium segment. Keep the Scots, Welsh, English & all Irish on the island of Ireland workers going. So many spin off jobs from car construction. We have plenty of wind, waves, strong currents under the waves, hard workers and untapped skills going to waste. Oil & Gas money goes out of our pockets.
I will be REALLY annoyed if the lower spec cars coming to Spain don't have either V2L or V2G. Because, for me, this is one of the technologies that I am most interested in for my needs. Pretty much everything that I actually NEED is involved in this car, but V2L or V2G is not negotiable. I'm not aware of anything in the EV3 which is specced lower than the forthcoming Hyundai Inster, but I can see that I'll probably end up getting the Inster over the EV3 on this one point. I have no idea WTF KIA is playing at by having V2G only available on the top spec cars (and Spain won't even be GETTING that spec!).

@@DavidSanchez-P In the basic version, Kia has installed an LFP battery with a capacity of 58.3 kWh, which is sufficient for 436 standard kilometres. If you spend 5,400 euros more, you get NMC cells with a combined capacity of 81.4 kWh, with which the EV3 can travel 605 kilometres.
The EV3 Earth is so much prettier and balanced than the GT version, which just has too much shiny black. Why not just body colour those black arches ? Are you doing an assessment of the GT line.
I live in Vatican city, so the smaller battery is good enough for me to reach everything in my country. Btw, i don't want anything wacking off my knee.

I don’t agree with all statements in this video related to the supposed superiority of Korean cars versus all others. In particular, the Škoda Kodiaq hybrid version currently has the longest range.
Seeing as so many people don’t know how to adjust them correctly, it’s probably safest having a large non-adjustable head restraint - like on the early Volvos and even Fords in the 80s. See many people with them set too low, increasing potential whiplash.
Another very good review. In my experience, I prefer a rear wheel drive EV. It's personal choice but, I am not a fan of the styling of the Kia. I prefer the Elroq. Both the Elroq and EV 3 make the Ford Explorer look expensive as they have similar range and boot size.
Kia not fitting a heat pump as standard is short sighted as they need to build consumer confidence re EV range in cold weather. Sorry Kia no heat pump then no EV3 air model for me.
As someone who needs a new car (currently still driving an 07 corsa which I've owned from 2009), I am researching EVs, but anything over €25k is just not in my budget and is a stupid amount to pay for a lump of metal! I think car manufacturers have lost the head on themselves. The price, the poor charging infrastructure in Ireland and lack of worthwhile government incentives to go green are the reason why EV sales in Ireland are low. There are 4 charge points in my nearest town, 2 owned by GoCar, both are 22kw. With the global temperature increasing by more than 1.5° we are in trouble climatically; but without incentives the public just cannot go green. I firmly believe that the Apple money should be used to support the removal of older cars off the road, putting people in newer, greener vehicles. Surely the government's of the world need to open their eyes and recognise that without financial support people cannot help the future of our planet. Its crunch time...and an election year in Ireland too. With COP29 curently meeting and the recent climate disasters (big 🚩) surely we MUST recognise massive change is needed. Until our government steps up, I'm stuck in an old car that is inefficient, and costly to run (€60 to fill, and around 400km from a tank!) I'd love to reduce, or eliminate my reliance on fossil fuels, my carbon footprint and my vehicle running costs, but this is way out of my reach, and will remain so for the foreseeable future.
@@NobbyOnCars In my country EV3 long range is same money as the long range M3. Small question there about what to choose. Also, small battery EV3 is more expensive than Byd Atto and MG4 Long Range, which arguably offer about the same experience and they are two year old models by now. I suspect the MG drives nicer than the KIA btw. Finally, the Lynk & Co 02 is coming soon with much more flair for less money, as well as many more models. Long story short, good tech on the KIA but they need a lesson pricewise and I think they're going to get it from consumers.
Absolutely no doubt that Kia are best in the market when it comes to EV.

Top GT Line in france is 45 990 € - which is around £38300 (Pounds) UK - so yeah why oh why do UK and Eire (RHD) importers charge so much more???
It’s €1,000 more expensive in Ireland compared to France so. Not exactly a huge increase.

The EV database confirms both batteries are NMC. The EV5, made in China, not Korea, has LFP

Big fan of Kia EVs but am i the only person who thinks this looks terrible.....saw one in an Applegreen a few weeks ago and its not the best at all

@@NobbyOnCars In my country EV3 long range is same money as the long range M3. Small question there about what to choose.
Also, small battery EV3 is more expensive than Byd Atto and MG4 Long Range, which arguably offer about the same experience and they are two year old models by now. I suspect the MG drives nicer than the KIA btw.
Finally, the Lynk & Co 02 is coming soon with much more flair for less money, as well as many more models. Long story short, good tech on the KIA but they need a lesson pricewise and I think they're going to get it from consumers.
