These singers really poured their souls into this performance. As did Clare in the studio version. Good seeing new folks appreciating this music, as you clearly do.
Great reaction to a great performance. But for this song nothing can compare to the original studio version with Clare Torrey. Clare ad-libbed the entire performance and really poured all her soul and emotion into the song.
I really felt the emotion in this one! So it’s nuts to hear that the studio version was better! I’ll definitely check it out on my own time then. I appreciate your comment and I also appreciate that you keep coming back to my videos! 🤘❤️🔥
Slide guitar is what I've always heard it referred to as! Led Zep has a tremendous catalog, but Pink Floyd's music will become a part of your soul! My fav, PINK FLOYD!
This song is intended to describe the five stages of the dying process. Richard Wright, the keyboardist of the. During his lifetime, Richard Wright, the band's keyboardist, asked Durga Mc Broom, one of the backing singers on the Pink Floyd tour, to sing this song at his funeral. I have personal contact with Durga and she confirmed it to me. But according to unconfirmed information, she was accompanied on the piano by none other than John Lord from Deep Purple.
That is absolutely INSANE to hear you have personal contacts like this. Thank you so much for sharing so much insight and personal experience with me. I really appreciate it and I adore and love this song even more for this.❤️
I love seeing people experience Pink Floyd ❤ my dad loves them so i grew up with their music and they become a part of you. The more you listen the more they become a part of your DNA im sure of it. I saw them in hyde park 2005 @ live8 and it was one of the most amazing moments of my whole life to be able to see them infront of my eyes and listen to the music live. I have kids of my own now and my daughter is 13 and she's taken a liking to "mums music" mainly pink floyd 😊 so i am obviously very pleased and proud to pass on the love to the next generation
As you requested, here is a memory. When I went to concerts for most bands, the people leaving afterward are usually amped up and ready to go party somewhere. When people were leaving a Pink Floyd concert, they were mostly quiet. And that seemed normal. Everyone was still trying to process what they had just witnessed, and were leaving in a...mood of reverence.
I'm enjoying your reactions to Pink Floyd, and your venture into the other bands from this era, I'm sure that as you continue this journey, you will begin to understand why us Old folks who grew up when this music was newly presented, are the way we are 😉, I'm sure that your journey into this era of music is going to be long and enjoyable, you've entered the right rabbit hole my Friend and I'm looking forward to witnessing your journey, Thank You for allowing all of us to join you, God Bless.
Super sweet comment 🤘❤️🔥 so far in my journey I’m REALLY enjoying PF. They are just so fun and other worldly. I’m super blessed that their music was recommended to me, and even more blessed that I had such great people like yourself to join me❤️ thank you for commenting! 🤘
What the Pink Floyd guys do that so many other groups don't do is they have a lack of narcissism here!! They let everyone of their backup singers backup musicians have their time in the spotlight because according to the Floyd guys there every bit as important as they are for these brilliant wonderful live performances!!! And David was playing a pedal steel guitar it sits like a piano but plays like a guitar!
They really seem like such a humble group of individuals that’s for sure! And thank you for putting the instrument in here! This is the very first time I’ve ever heard of this instrument 😅
@@killbimu he plays that instrument a lot more vigorously in a song called "One of These Days" in the same concert which is mostly an instrumental and quite amazing to see!!! Keep up the great work and your enthusiasm and you'll hit 10,000 really soon!!
When the backing vocals become the front stage.... I am convinced that in 200 years, when future man looks back at culture and art, this will be right up there with the greats like Beetnhoven, Chopin, Davinci... No one does this kind of vocals like Floyd.
@KillBimu, I saw the Pulse show in Philly at Vet Stadium. They had 2 shows scheduled but they sold so quickly a 3rd was added.I took my wife who was mostly a concert virgin. I'd seen Floyd many times before so I knew what to expect. They had the stadium wired for surround sound and before the show started, instead of music playing there was a lawn mower. So we could hear it going back and forth cutting the grass. So much goes on at a Floyd show that it would take a lot to completely describe it. One coincidental highlight for that show was during the song On The Run an airliner flew low over the stadium as it was landing at the airport not far away. It's coincidental because at the end of this song plane of sorts flies from the top of the stadium down and crashes into to stage in flames. The building would vibrate at times from the sound and to complete the evening, second hand smoke of the most pleasant nature filled the air. So after the show I asked my wife what she thought. She said "I feel like I've been raped by all 5 senses in the best possible way". We gone to a lot of shows since that one and she still compares all of them to Pink Floyd in Philadelphia
Hello everyone! I am uploading my SORROW- PINK FLOYD Reaction on 23FEB! I have multiple PF reactions editing right now as well as some more Led Zeppelin! Thank you for your time and I appreciate you! ❤️🔥🤘
I have heard different names for the instrument David Gilmour was playing, but Lap Steep Guitar seems to be a common name. It is played from a sitting position, kind of like a small table or desk with guitar strings, laying flat, stretched across the table.
Yes, a lap steel guitar. There are actually two variations, both played with a slide. The other one is called a pedal steel guitar; it looks similar but actually has pedals that change the tuning.
Had this album on 8-track when I was a teenager. Played it until it came apart (which wasn't that unusual for those cheap 8-tracks) ...Thanks man for checking in with these masterpieces. 👌
I sincerely hope you continue to enjoy Pink Floyd, as you’ve discovered there are a lot of people watching your reactions, the only sad bit about being Pink Floyd fan is you can only hear them for the first time once.
I’m so blessed to have grown a community that loves their music and is willing to share it with me AND point me on where to head to next. I really appreciate this comment and thank you so much for your time today❤️ god bless!
Saw this experience 5 times. Earl's Court was 14 days in a row sold out. FAA clearance for outdoor shows ( Lasers). After but many more P.F. give Dave's solo work some love. Dave last "Live at Pompeii" ( the only person to play there twice since 79 AD.) " In any Tongue ***" "sorrow & comfortably numb" with over 125 million views, "Live at Gdansk" take a breath" "On an Island" *** "P.F. songs " Great Day for Freedom" " Echoes" ********* last time performed.
it took # singers to do this gig, on the original soundtrack it only NEEDED 1. Clare Torrey was a studio backing singer, she did the recording in 3 takes, the first one she used words and they asked her to do it without words. second one she didnt like and asked them not to use ANY of it.,third take is what was released with one retake of one part. she then left the studio and didnt know they had used it till she saw her name on the credits on the album cover. But the original recording is THE version you want to hear.clare manages to do what david does, draw your emotions out and put them right in front of you, with NO filters. David does it with his guitar, Clare does it with her VOICE!!!
Yes, definitely agree with other comments saying the studio version is superior if only for Clare Torrey. Exactly what she was asked to do is still up for opinion, but I maintain Clare singing through the emotions of grief and loss are on point.
They played 14 nights at Earl's Court to finish the tour, it was originally going to be 7 nights but tickets sold out so quickly that they decided to do another 7 nights. I was lucky enough to be there on the 20th Oct the night they recorded the Pulse live DVD(although they filmed all the shows and they used footage from multiple different nights in the various edits of the final film that were released). Three stages leap frogged around North America and Europe, each 180 feet (55 m) long and featuring a 130-foot (40 m) arch resembling the Hollywood Bowl venue. All in all, the tour required 700 tons of steel carried by 53 articulated trucks, a crew of 161 people and an initial investment of US$4 million plus US$25 million of running costs just to stage. This tour played to 5.5 million people in 68 cities; each concert gathered an average audience of 45,000.
As several people have said, DG plays a steel guitar for this song. The original version used a Fender 1000 dual-neck pedal steel guitar; in this performance he reportedly used a Fender Deluxe lap steel guitar. If you really want to hear him slay the Fender 1000, try Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Part 6.
This is my first time hearing about this instrument! And I super look forward to seeing him use it again! Thank you for this comment and spending time with me today❤️🤘
I'm sure some of these comments have mentioned it, but you absolutely need to check out the story of how Clare Tory contributed to that song. It's kind of trippy.
The blonde girl is Samantha (Sam) Browne, she usually sings blues aand was discovered by Gilmour back in the 80s. She has a hit single "Stop". The second is Durga McBroom. She sang with both Gilmour and Waters on their solo albums. The studio version sang (quite improvised) by Clare Torry is way better than any live performance of this song.
You’re missing out without having headphones (not pods). I like watching your reactions. I love the Pulse album, it’s my favorite live album. One of my favorite solos is from Rush, the song is Working Man and it’s live in Cleveland. Rush is on Zeppelin and Pink Floyd level for me. IMO these bands are better live.
Today’s music is loaded with backtracks. A lot of concerts are “look at me how great I am”. And even someone like LedZep never used session players to cover the add tracks for Jimmy. PF concert music sounds better than recorded most of the time and these guys Played together for 10 to 20 yrs. Just regular folks performing at the top of their craft dressed like they going to mow a lawn. And we get the benefit.
You're doing well young friend! I'm more than twice your age and I'm glad your generation is listening to the old stuff. Your absolutely right about people today who want to post video's taken with a mobile phone, it's dumb. You go to a concert and you remember it and cherish it. It should keep you engaged and you shouldn't be distracted at trying to capture something that you're already there for the sole purpose of experiencing it. You will not get better footage than official concert footage anyway, plus your mobile's microphone isn't designed to capture sound from a live venue. You don't have the equipment to capture it, you're never going to capture the aura of being there on a mobile. Now that you've heard the live version from Pulse at Earl's Court, you should check out the album version recorded over 2 recording sessions by Clare Torrey. She was paid as a studio session singer which means she didn't make nearly enough money or credit for when the album came out. But then again, nobody knew that Dark Side of the Moon would sell so well and continue to sell so well. It's a work of art that is timeless.
Thank you for this comment! And it must be awesome to see people my age get into this part of your life. Pink Floyd has truly made some timeless music and I’m blessed to experience them like this! So far they are my favorite group from this point in time. I’ve only discovered them and Led Zeppelin! I have yet to listen to the Beatles!
So brilliant live, and yet the original recorded version by Clare Torre is still regarded as the best and greatest. This is Clare Torrey"s song. She should be given first listen to. Clare's 2 and 1/2 take version is much better. Not all songs need to be live
Bollocks. If you're a touring band, you have to be able to cut it live. Claire wasnt. She was a studio session singer. This is a live cut 20 years after the event.
