Smetana, without a doubt ♥ Smetana never heard his completed symphony, he went deaf in the five years it took to compose this brilliant set of poems. Deaf and composing something SO beautiful... You can hear the babbling fragile mountain streams at the beginning, the wide slow-moving river, the wild waterfalls, the life along the banks, the shrill, roaring cacophony of Prague's industrial area, and then that ending where the Moldau winds its way and slowly dissolves into the Danube until absolute silence, absolutely brilliant! Who likes to hear the whole symphony: ua-cam.com/video/w6jlhLUgER0/v-deo.html A very nice video from the "Moldau" part here: ua-cam.com/video/l6kqu2mk-Kw/v-deo.html
Always such a pleasure and inspirational to watch your videos, thanks very much for that (still want to replicate your mini bandsaw as soon I have time!)
Oh dear,… the work is art,… the music “makes it art in heaven”,… great work!!!! Beautiful!…… and many thanks for sharing the magnificent work with astonishing beautiful music!!! Thank you!
Michel, you've set yourself quite the challenge but this initial stage is off to a great start, Well done!! Very much looking forward to see what solutions you've come up with.
Hi Colin, Yes I have some ideas, and possibly some unconventional solutions here and there, but a lot of the details need to be figured out as we go along. I already like this project. (And I hope it stays that way..) 🙂
And another interesting project. I liked your comparison charts looking at mini mills and working envelopes. I am curious to see which design and methods you are going to use. Thx for these kind of YT videos. Stefan
Yes, but that is very inconvenient for me. The head of the FF500 can be swiveled, but after you have done that it takes an hour or more to set it exactly square again. The problem is that when you tighten the locking bolt, the head swivels a bit, making a precise alignment a pain in the butt. After I had done that nasty job four times or so, I really had enough of it. That is why the last time (4 years ago or so) I did set the head extremely precisely square, locked it rock solid and never touched that bolt again. So switching milling heads is out of the question for me.
Consider the Makita Sash 4403. This is the best micro mill I've ever used and the spindle can be changed according to your needs. If you can find one its a gem but if not maybe the design could be useful.
Thanks for your reply. If I'm not mistaken, that Makita is a router, especially for aluminum. With a fixed speed of 30k rpm, it is unsuitable for processing steel. Furthermore, it lacks so many features I have on my wish list that I consider it unusable for my purpose.
@@Michel-Uphoff The router can be replaced by a spindle of your choice, mine is equipped by a cnc spindle and controlled by a vfd, the platform is ridged and accurate according to my experience with it machining many steel parts. Good luck with your design looking forward to it. Thanks.
Also I'd like to add that if you need help with something - depending on the material, features, tolerances and if theres an availability of a free cnc mill that isnt overloaded with work at my job - I wouldnt mind making a part for you. Free of charge of course! And I really do mean it - feel free to ask 🤗
Thank you! I will keep this in mind. Sometimes a part can hardly be made in the conventional way and if that's the case I will send you a message. If you could give me your e-mail address (by e-mail of course) that would be nice.
With that bow in your column is it still square to the base. Or did you re-skim the bottom end square after in the same setup as finish milling the dovetail?
As mentioned, however I didn't show it in the video, I made the ends square with a T-slot mill. I did this after finishing the dovetails. When it comes to the end assembly (in a number of weeks, months..) I will recheck all alignment and squareness per component and trim where necessary.
It's looking like the design im going with for my never ending mini-grinder project. perhaps i should lengthen it even more and do a high speed milling attachment :D
Oh sir... now you have my full attention! Did the dovetail cutting in this video significantly wear down the cutter? Do you need a new one? Or it still lasts?
I’m looking forward for the next episode
Will take two weeks or so..
I am not sure what I enjoyed more - your video or Smetana’s Moldau 😀. Great work 👍

I loved your bandsaw build series, this is even better yet, Love it, and thanks for sharing
I’m very excited to see more of this project! I can’t wait!
Michel, you always make the best stuff. A micro-mill has been on my list for years. Can’t wait to see what you plan to use for the motor.

Hi Donald,
If you have some patience.. There will be drawings 🙂
As always nice projects, do you use a DRO.

Wow. I like this stuff, looking forward to your coming videos.❤thanks for making this
I have the perfect application for this ! Looking forward to what you do
Looking forward to this series! We shared this video on our homemade tool forum last week 😎
The Moldau, awesome song.
Yes! A new series! =)
Thank you.
Did you consider adding a high speed spindle to the side of the milling head on the machine you have?

Thanks for the video. What dimension the cutter dovetail you used. Is very beatifull that endmill. Good job.
Diameter 25 mm, 4 teeth (brazed on carbide), shaft 12mm, angle 60 degrees. Later I also used a slightly smaller one (HSS).

👍👍
subbed 😀
Oh sir... now you have my full attention! Did the dovetail cutting in this video significantly wear down the cutter? Do you need a new one? Or it still lasts?
Its still very sharp 🙂 (brazed on tungsten carbide)
@@Michel-Uphoff good to know! Thanks and happy building!
I have a project, dims are roughly 50mmx28mmx26mm, 6061. Do you think a mini mill would be best for it? On a budget.
That depends on the material and the type of machining. Size could be appropriate for small to very small mills.
Dag Michel, misschien een idee om de geleidingen te maken met lineaire geleidingen ? Of wordt het dan te groot?
Ik vrees van wel. En het is nogal kostbaar.
Can you please enable captioning on your videos?

@@Michel-Uphoff that is strange, the CC button is disabled.
