Top Tip Tuesday - How to Create PERFECT In Seam Pockets
Вставка
- Опубліковано 21 жов 2024
- Hi everyone, I'm back today with a new weekly series I'm hoping you'll love. Over the coming weeks, I'm planning to show you how I perform key sewing techniques that work for me to create better results in my garments, is there anything you'd like me to demonstrate?, let me know!
To kick us off, I'm showing how I create PERFECT in seam pockets that sit flush at the side seams, no bagging out and adding extra bulk to those hips. This technique is one I've used from sewing Tessuti patterns and it's FANTASTIC, I hope you love it too xx

You are a very good teacher. Many thanks.
Brilliant 🤩
Game changer for me! Every dress or pants pattern would have you sew front pocket to front piece and back side to back piece. I’ve been sewing 50 years and never have seen this way to sew pockets! Thanks so much!
I’m glad it helps! It’s always great to see a new technique
Thank you so much Rachel. This is fantastic. I am a visual learner and following instructions doesn’t always work for me. This tutorial is so clear. I really appreciate you taking the time to do this.
This will now be my most watched You Tube video along with your invisible zip tutorial which I follow every time I insert a zip (even though I probably don't NEED to anymore, it gives me confidence I won't forget anything). Thank you so much. If you get chance, I'd love some more of your top tips because they're so useful and you're so clear at explaining everything.
Thank you so much Rachel for taking the t8me to do this fabulous tutorial for us. I am just cutting out some Bailey shorts 😊
Perfectly demonstrated Rachel 👌... thank you so much 🙏💖😘
what a great idea for a vlog. I too have hips and usually avoid side seam pockets, thank you so much for showing me a great way to do this. Happy sewing xxxx
Would love to see a video on finishing with bias bindings....bane of my life!
Thanks Rachel for the demo, I will be giving it a go. Loving the new series😍
This was a brilliant tutorial- thank you , I look forward to many more especially as I’m a novice and need lots of help 😊
I am loving your tutorials Rachel. This is a great method of making the pockets, I can’t wait to try on my next pants and shorts. Thank you!❤
Great tutorial. Everything was clear and love the technique.
Hi Rachel that's how I do my side seam pockets so beautiful and secured. When I was making scrubs during the lockdown for NHS I cannot remember the lady's name her free pattern to make scrubs for the NHS had the same construction how to make the pocket like you have demonstrated. I haven't turned back. It is a perfect way and a beautiful way to have pockets like that. Very professional. Thank you for sharing XXX
This perfect pockets blogs was just what I needed. Your demonstration of sewing in the pocket was perfect and easy to follow. Thank you Rachel 🌸
Loved the tutorial , clear , precise and most importantly it was easy to follow . I would welcome a tutorial on inserting and invisable zipper and bias binding armholes and necklines . Thanks 😊
This is how Style Arc do it too! It must be an Aussie thing xxx
I have just used your tutorial; it worked a treat on the Style Arc Bob pants I am making. You are clear and concise and very easy to follow. Thank you.
Brilliant! Thanks, Rachel! 👏🏽
Love the tutorial. From now on I’m going straight to the overlocker to seam my pockets! I don’t know why it didn’t occur to me before! 😊
This was great! Never have seen this before and I need it. Your video skills were great too! Thanks for doing this.
Thanks for that Rach!!! I've seen that technique before but couldn't get my head around it on paper. Seeing it done on film made it way easier to understand!
Brilliant, love Top Tip Tuesday 🎉
Thank you Rachel, brilliant vlog.❤
Really enjoy your vlogs and what an excellent idea sharing your knowledge. Looking forward to your future tutorials 🌼🌞
Thank you Rachel, this was super ❤
Thank you for this tutorial. I’ve used it as reference so many times
Thank you Rachel.
That was a great tutorial.
Brilliant thanks such a great tutorial, cannot wait for the next.
Loved this episode! You’re an amazing instructor. I would appreciate a tip on how to sew collars - the collars without a collar band. Thanks so much!!
I've used this method three times since this video. x
Thank you! I am looking forward to trying this technique today.
Excellent tuition Rachel. It is just as neat inside as well as out. You make it look so easy. Thank you. Like previous comment, bias binding would be most helpful. I also have only been sewing since lockdown. 👍😀
Thank you so much! Great job. Buttonholes are the thing that scare me. I'd also like tips on finishing knit necklines. Also, matching different types of fabrics and patterns.
I love this idea for a series.Brilliant tutorial, easily understood and perfectly demonstrated. I would love to know how you attach woven non stick interfacing, zips, both invisible and metal and buttonholes on both woven. and stretch fabric.Thank you.
Great idea. Love Top Tip Tuesday really useful video 😊
Thanks for sharing. Always love your great ideas.
Invaluable knowledge as always !! Thankyou for sharing. I used to love Ruans lunchtime tutorials so I'll be tuned in every Tuesday for more of your top tips. Could you show how to do bust adjustments to a pattern please ?. 😊
Thanks Rachel what a fab idea and resource! Pocket tutorial is brilliant and I will definitely sewing my in seam pockets this way in future👏. My biggest dread are collar stands 🤦♀️😁.
Thank you Rachel
Definitely going to try this method next garment x
Thanks for the clear and useful tutorial!
That was brilliant. Thank you from NZ xxx
GreAt pocket construction tip! Would love to see how to go around zipper pull when installing a zipper. Have sewn for years and this bit still trips me up, thank you!
Love your ideas Rachel, I would love help with plackets, button holes, collars and stand. Measuring and fitting……go….🤪🤓🤩
Great tutorial. Thanks Rachel 👍
Ooh that was so good thanks Rachel ❤
Thank you for sharing! What a clever method, I have tessuti patterns on my wish list but I’ve never actually made any. I’ll definitely give this a try 😊
Totally awesome. this is one i often get wrong and have to unpick --thank you for this information! i'd love to see how you do facings and bindings....so many suggestions -- I will continue to watch. You are fantastic!
Great tutorial, Rachel. I'm just about to start the Avenir jumpsuit. I saw your sewl sisters vlog, where you mentioned this tutorial. This looks great, and I'm going to try this on my Avenir.
Thanks, you explain it really well. ❤😊
So helpful, as I'm not an inexperienced sewer, and left the pockets off the only two dresses I've made.
Would also love to see neck bindings, and collars that sit nicely. 🙂
Genius! I rarely include the inseam pockets in my makes because they invariably turned out wonky, floppy, and generally unflattering. I just tried this technique on a pair of batik viscose (what could go wrong?) beach pants and OMG -- it was a revelation. Thank you so much. Keep the great tips coming!
Absolutely brilliant !!!!!!!!
Great tutorial!! You are a natural.
Love this Rachel - super helpful
Great tutorial, thank you. You explained it really well.
Hi Rachel I love your way of teaching. That was a brilliant style of tutorial and very professional. I’m a beginner and have seem so many amateur tutorials but that was pure gold. I think this series is going to be a smash hit. I struggle with applying bias binding so would like to suggest that as a tutorial. Lots of love Shelley
Thank you Shelley I will add it to the list xx
Oh yes please especially bias binding finish to a woven neckline 👏👏
Brilliant Rachel!!
Great concept for videos! I’d like to see how you do French seams on sleeves.
Excellent idea Rachel, thoroughly enjoyed this episode, looking forward to future Tuesday tips videos. Thanks for taking the time to teach fellow stitchers xx
Absolutely brilliant. Thank you x
Rachel, thank you for sharing this pocket tutorial. It was so helpful! You are an excellent sewing teacher!
I would love to see a demonstration on how to properly and efficiently apply interfacing. What are the steps? The correct order? I've never been properly taught and just plow through ungracefully!
Brilliant tutorial!!! Excellent idea for TTT's ... I love things like this that are so easy to follow and understand, thank you for doing it so well ... Even I understood it but would struggle reading it on a pattern. Collars and bust adjustments, zips .... how about how to measure and fit sleeves to a sleevess dress or shirt pattern???? Thanks again Rachel, fab tutorial!!
Sleeveless, not sleevess 😂
You made it so clear! I always mess up on pockets, with all the pieces and steps! I would love to see a tutorial on slits, different kinds of slits. Like at the top of a blouse with a button loop, and at the bottom side seam of a blouse with a curved hem.
Excellent, love it! Some things that were game changers for me in my sewing journey (and may be helpful to others), was learning how to substitute facings for bias binding; learning how to lower darts; learning how to use guiding stitching to eliminate the frustrations of a rolled hem. Looking forward to future tutorials. To this day, I still haven’t done an invisible zipper, or sewn in stretch fabric - although that’s coming up very soon after I finish my first denim skirt (my oh my what a learning curve too😂).
Love this. I would love to see French seems on sleeves
Thank you Rachel. very helpful
Ive just made the Bailee shorts this week and was blown away by the pockets! Such a great technique. Fantastic tutorial Rachel, thank you. How about the Burrito method as a tutorial idea and inserting an invisible zip - i keep avoiding patterns with invisible zips as the thought scares me 😂
Very clear tutorial and neat pocket. I often leave them out because I don’t like the way they ruin the line of the garment. However I might start doing the now😆
Great easy to watch step by step instructions. Thank you Rachel. Would you be able to do one on how to use bias tape around the neck and zips ?
This is great thanks Rachel, my pockets never quite sit right, I've just tried this on my latest make & it sits perfectly ❤
Fantastic idea for a series of vlogs Rachel! I would like to see a video on how to create a perfect point on a v-neck top or dress, mine always pucker somewhere at the ‘point’, also any tips on how to stitch to that exact ‘point’ as my sewing foot hides the mark I have made when I get near it 😢.
You must have read my mind as that’s on the list!
Love the top tip Tuesday idea. Looking forward to future episodes. I would love tips on making a collar with a collar stand have avoided them for ever 😮
Thank You for such a great video. I have always had problems with my inseam pockets but I hope that this will solve the problem.
That was excellent, thank you 😊
Thank you Rachel, that demo was really helpful. Neck facings are my nemesis.
Brilliant share Thank You 🙏❤️💚💜💙
Brilliant idea! Could you cover off when and how you would use binding, rather than a facing on a garment neckline etc.
Great tutorial Rachel thank u
excellent tutorial Rachel so clear.☺I would love to see how you do a v neck, mine never are quite rite.
I love the idea for this new series because you can never have too many techniques available to you. Also really liking this pocket version and will definitely give it a try.❤
Brilliant. Thanks.😃
Yes, oh yes . Genius indeed. Clearly and beautifully shot and explained Rachel. Thank you for taking the time to do it, this will be a “go to” for me from now on. 😊x
Fantastic! Thank you! Tip for sewing binding on T Shirt. Would be great.

Thank you. I’ve never seen that technique before - brilliant. Looking forward to your next tutorial. Cheers.
Love this. They’re my fave pockets too! Every time I make a Tessuti pattern I’m like WOW 😂
👌
❤ thank you for sharing ❤
Very nice video! I would like to see how you put in both a regular and invisible zipper! Thanks 👗🧵🪡🥰
Great idea, and really clear tutorial, thank you. Would love to find out more about collar stands, the pattern piece always seems too long when I make them!
Very useful video, thank you
Really like your new series. This pocket method is wonderful and your instructions easy to follow. How about an episode on neck binding with viscose fabric?
Thankyou going to be so useful.
Fantastic!
Love this Rachel thank you I will definitely try it ,
I do struggle with callers and the callers stand .
love this idea for a new series - waistband techniques for me please Rachel - they always turn out a mess !
Beautiful
Brilliant technique - thx so much for sharing Rachel!

Absolutely brilliant Rachel. So carefully explained and demonstrated. You make it seem so doable. 😊
