BTW. I'm glad you used material where it's obvious shown whats the right side and the wrong side. I've seen pictures and videos where the wrong side looks like the right side
This is amazing. Thank you SO MUCH! I fell in love with French seams but was tearing my hair out trying to put pockets in them. This is exactly what I needed. Seriously, thank you immensely for taking the time to share this knowledge with us.
I cannot get my head around how to do this. Every time I need to, I come back to your video to follow carefully along. You explain it really very clearly. Thank you!
I wish I could like a video more than once. I have been using side pockets since I started sewing. I have only learned in the past year about French seams and have had to watch this video every time I make a new dress. Thank you for all the help Kitten.❤
I must've watched this over 40 times but today I finally made my first pair of clothing! And pj pants with pockets and French seams at that. Thank you for the explanation, I couldn't have done it without this video!
This is absolutely superb, excellent instructions. Having just attempted to do this with a self drafted pair of shorts and having an argument with my fabric and seam ripper for 2 hours I absorbed every second of this, saying "Ahhhhh" !! I have subscribed. You are so clear with your directions I will be checking your channel for future advice! Thanks
I was breaking my brain trying to figure out how to do this. Thank you so much for this tutorial, it is so clear! I can confidently add pockets to the dress I'm making now :)
I add pockets to everything I sew and return to this video time after time to follow the steps to make sure I do it well. Thank you so much for such an excellent tutorial.
Thank you for this video! The last time I attempted this I had followed a picture tutorial and had a difficult time trying to get my skirt done. Your video was so much more helpful!!!
Thank you so much from sunny south Africa for such an amazing tutorial. It's the best I've watched and I followed the instructions exactly to yours and ended up with a beautiful result.
You're brilliant! I always get confused with pockets more so if it is a french seam. Your explanation was so clear and I could sew the pockets easily. Thank you thank you thank you!
I can’t thank you enough for this great video! I was losing my mind trying to figure this out on my own. Your instruction and images are very clear and it’s also nice that you have such a pleasant voice 😃 thank you again
Thanks so much for this! I've lost count of how many tutorials I have watched for this that I could not understand. Yours makes sense to me. Now I can go finish my dress!
I just made a dress with french seams throughout... except for the skirt because I have pockets...I overlocked...but from now on, I'll french seam them. I adjust my own patterns to include french seams....I don't like the look of serging or overlocking... but I had no idea how to make pockets. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much! I just couldn't figure how to do this myself, now I can do it with confidence. I especially enjoy your honesty about your own mistakes. The purple pointer is also handy, much better than a pointy finger as in most videos.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU SO MUCH for these excellent instructions! I was hung up on the clipping part (before the final press) and guessed that That was not the thing to do. I like the short video too. I am on a limited data plan and the short videos with excellent instructions, like yours, make life easier. Beautiful fabric, by the way!
This is amazing! So clear! I don’t have a serger and am not a fan of zigzag stitching to finish seams, and I’ve fallen in love with French seams anyways to finish. I’m new to sewing though, and I’ve been trying to figure out how to finish pants with pockets with flat-felled french seams. After watching a plethora of tutorials, I think I’ve got it, thanks to you! Gonna try it tomorrow-fingers crossed!
By far the best video on how to do this. I was struggling so much watching two other videos, and actually gave up because I couldn't get the corners looking nice, but then I found this one and got it perfect! Just make sure the side seam edge of your pocket bag has enough seam allowance, mine was a self-drafted pocket bag that came partially from another pattern, and the curve of the pocket piece needed to be farther from the side seam edge. It made it look messier and was harder to sew.
Ahh this is wonderful! I'm new to sewing (well, not sewing in general, but sewing clothes) and I want to French seam the skirt I'm making AND add pockets, I didn't know I could have both till I saw this video. Thank you!
Wow ! u r soooo clever at sewing 😍 Tks for showing these little tricky parts which usually we less clever sewists tend to leave out or r afraid to attempt. Thank you 🙏
Fantastic video. I have been struggling to find a tutorial that explained clearly. Using material where we could clearly tell which was the right and wrong side (as well as you pointing out) was very helpful. I often struggle to keep up with following a video on sewing tutorials. But this was really helpful and worked a treat. Thank you very much.
I just found this as I was wanting pockets in a really long, heavy skirt. Think I will hand stich the thickest bits next time, but oh my word, this is the greatest thing I've stumbled across all year. Thank you so much!!!!
SO, after using this tutorial three times now, I have decided that on the last steps, the closing up final seams, it is easier to clearly mark your straight seam sewing line to the opening of the pocket. Marked my sewing line as I was getting WAYY off in the bulk of the section. Did those long side seams, back-tacked at the top/bottoms of each straight line, so I didn't have to turn or pivot through any of it. THEN went back and just did around the pocket as its own step. WAY smoother! Thank you again, this is still my detailed go to!!
Nice, short, and straight to the point. I was working on a muslin mockup and put my pockets on wrong. This video was super helpful so that I don't make the same mistake with my nice fabric.
WOW! This is exactly what I needed to see. I have some skirts I was making for a friend and thought about adding pockets but could not visualize how to do this while keeping the french seems. Oh THANK YOU for doing this! Pockets here I come!
Am having to watch this more than once, lovely and clear video, pointer helps too, and thank goodness no distracting muzac., Looking forward to getting my pocket into an existing french seamed dress by the end of today, and now see I have to unpick more of the side seams than I already have. Would never have understood all this without your video, thanks very much. The only bit I'm really confused about, is why the extra inch of sewing each end, after I thought you'd finished? Update a few hours later, have now finished one pocket which has turned out pretty successful, and decided to leave the dress with just one pocket as found it harder putting it into a dress that already exists, and I think my success was partly luck, so am not wanting to risk spoiling the other side!
Thank you so much for this tutorial! It was very helpful. I’m working on a dress with a lining and have been trying to figure out how to sew the pockets, especially since all my seams are French seams. Now I know what to do and am very grateful for your explanation!
Thank you! Been trying to figure out how to insert a French seam pocket into an already French seamed dress, my brain was hurting, lol. This video has really helped to understand the technique! X
I still come back to this video every time I do pockets in a french seamed skirt! I've found it helpful to add a line of under stitching to keep the pocket bag and seam allowances in place - at the 3:40 time stamp.
Ah, sweet! I love French seams and I love the idea of putting pockets in my skirts, but I've only tried a couple times and it didn't turn out at all well but clearly I was doing it all wrong! Thanks very much, I will definitely be trying this out on everything now.
Hi Sian! Hope you're keeping well 😃. I just sewed some French seam pockets using this tutorial, and they are fabulous (even if I say so myself 😆). Thank you very much for doing it, you're a genius (but we all know that!!). Lynne 🤩😍

This is my third skirt in a row following this tutorial. I've commented before but I have to thank you again!! This is such a great tutorial :)
I must've watched this over 40 times but today I finally made my first pair of clothing! And pj pants with pockets and French seams at that. Thank you for the explanation, I couldn't have done it without this video!
Great Video. It helps to reduce the stitch length to 1.0 , 1 inch on either side of the corner. This strengthens the corner
This is absolutely superb, excellent instructions. Having just attempted to do this with a self drafted pair of shorts and having an argument with my fabric and seam ripper for 2 hours I absorbed every second of this, saying "Ahhhhh" !! Well done. Thank you.
I was breaking my brain trying to figure out how to do this. Thank you so much for this tutorial, it is so clear! I can confidently add pockets to the dress I'm making now :)
IKR!!! I felt like I needed an engineering degree!!
I add pockets to everything I sew and return to this video time after time to follow the steps to make sure I do it well. Thank you so much for such an excellent tutorial.
Very helpful. Thank you for posting this video 😊
Game changer. This tutorial saved me from a lot of grief!!
Very helpful! Thanks so much for the detailed instructions!
Excellent demonstration and explanation! Thank you!
Thank you for this video! The last time I attempted this I had followed a picture tutorial and had a difficult time trying to get my skirt done. Your video was so much more helpful!!!

Siân this is a brilliant tutorial. I've just achieved the best pocket I've ever made. Thankyou 🌻
Thank you so much! I just couldn't figure how to do this myself, now I can do it with confidence. I especially enjoy your honesty about your own mistakes. The purple pointer is also handy, much better than a pointy finger as in most videos.
Thank you bunches!!
Wonderful video, and lovely clear instructions! Thank you🌸
This was great. Please consider doing a demonstration on making a french seam on a godet set into a seam. Your's is the best explanation I've seen.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU SO MUCH for these excellent instructions! I was hung up on the clipping part (before the final press) and guessed that That was not the thing to do. This was so helpful! Thank you for the lesson, I now have a better understanding of the process
Excellent Video. It made this difficult technique so clear. Thank You!
Wonderful thank you. I haven't got a overlocker and this saves me buying me one and I think it looks better in my opinion
The overlocker or serger also makes really scratchy seems. The French seams are so elegant, and comfortable.
Very, very helpful. Thank you very much 🤗
Thank you for make it so clear
Thank you, a great clear and concise video.
THANK YOU!!! I've done LOTS of french seams but never knew how to do the pockets.
Thank you! I could almost visualize it. This was the perfect confirmation, and thanks for the heads up on the tricky steps!
Exactly the video I was looking for! Going to not be lazy and insert these in my current dress project ❤
These were such clear instructions, mine worked out beautifully, thank you so much! 😊

Thank you for taking the time to reply Siân. Yes it’s very helpful especially the order in which to do it. Oh how I love the internet!
Thank you so much so detailed and clear

Loved this tutorial. I am right at this point in a sundress I am making. I will try this method
Love your explanation of how to do this step and have already successfully applied it. I’m sure I’ll come back to it’s in the future.
thank you, so beautifully explained🌞
Exactly what I was looking for! Thank you!
I shall be doing this with the pattern you gave me!! The utter JOY of someone else doing the boring bit 😊

Thank you! I've been thinking about how to do this all day. Silly me for thinking instead of just googling first.
Wonderful! Thank you.
Brilliant! I'll be coming back to these tutorials for sure. Thank you so much 😁👍 x
Brilliant video thank you x
