Finally there a fancy restaurant showing pictures in menu in USA. You comment on that picture makes me believe most of the people in the states don't know what they are ordering when go there for the first time

"A dandruff problem” 😂 love it. “Small scale street fight.” Too funny. Lol! Another great review, James. The meat with excess fat looked absolutely beautiful. Great job! 🎉
I was an executive chef and have sourced meat from all over and have had Kobe in Tokyo on multiple visits. There is not a meat purveyor in the world that charges enough to justify a steak on a menu for over $1000.
The ice cream they use is Maraş Dondurma which has a slight chew to it. If you want an excellent baklava with maraş that isn't overpriced, the best choice is to either go to Bay Ridge at or go to Paterson in NJ to Antepli bakery which is an excellent bakery from Türkiye which happens to have said ice cream also. It'll be a whole lot less (around $8 or so with both) and it's outstanding. Would also highly recommend the künefe there. Outside of this, I went to the burger place a good while ago. It really wasn't bad though I understand the hate surrounding it. Apparently, the Istanbul and in general the original locations in Turkey aren't as overpriced.

I visited Nusr-Et in Istanbul in 2022, at its first restaurant located in the Etiler neighborhood. The prices were likely considered high for Istanbul, but they were quite reasonable compared to other major cities and much lower than those in NYC. The food was pretty good.
Having eaten at both Nusr-Et and his now closed burger spot I gotta say that, while indeed his restaurants are overpriced, the people who work there are some of the nicest people. Particularly at the now closed Salt Bae Burger, all the staff there were incredibly friendly. I certainly give Salt Bae credit for providing great service and creating a great team culture.

James, absolutely love your content! Filled with insightment and entertainment! Why does the aria from Carmen, by Georges Bizet play through this whole video?? Was I the only one who noticed? Was this a mistake, homage, a dramatic song to parody Salt Bae and his ilk? Thanks for trying it!
A friend of mine who I have known for years but didnt live in our area finally made the trip down to visit for a work conference. He invited myself and some friends out to dinner and took us to Nusr-et as a treat. He paid for the entire bill. It was quite the experience and the food was good. During dessert he convinced the server to hand feed me the first bite of the baklava as part of the presentation. It was great fun and something I will remember for quite sometime. If you lean into the theatrics, you can have a memorable time. Might as well try and get as much of a dinner and show as possible for those prices lol
I enjoyed the humorous tone of this video far more than I expected to lol. Now I can't get the image of a baklava involved in a small scale street fight out of my mind haha. I guess Salt Bae's restaurants are mostly for diners who want to show off to their companions, which I cannot relate to at all but to each their own. At least you got to meet the guy... I mean with the price of that meal, you basically paid for his personal appearance! 😅
As always I appreciated the thoughtful, comprehensive, and fair review. I like to clown on Salt Bae and his restaurants a lot for the ridiculous antics of the man and his absurd prices that are obviously an appeal to the super rich to frequent his restaurants mostly for social capital. That $25 slice of baklava that was 3mm wide was just a slap in the face. That kind of naked greed is an element of fine dining that I hate unequivocally, but I do think it's commendable of them to offer a reasonably priced lunch special, and it's always good to see a restaurant that places a high priority on quality customer service. If they can shift their attention to delivering value for money and away from catering to "whales" with gimmicky 10,000% markup steaks and a charismatic celebrity CEO sprinkling rock salt on your head and all over your shirt sleeves at the table, then I think the company could have some legs.
There’s an interesting restaurant in Norway called THE IRIS. Funny I think you did a review on a restaurant with the same name. When I watched a video about it it seemed right up your alley. It now has a Michelin star. I love the philosophy and practices of the chef.
Honestly I find greed nauseating, the owner clearly doesn’t want to get it, and definitely a narcissist. But hey, we will see if it continues or if it goes like the other two did. The steak looked tasty, but nothing special, not worth mentioning the rest, but glad the service was attentive. Thank you James, another review that was honest and on point.👍❤
And you seem to forget that for higher end restaurants, the most important element is the service, then the ambiance, the third only is the food. Listen to Gordon Ramsay and Marco Pierre White and they told that in some docus about their restaurant(s).
@@khoi83 The “Food” is what will bring you customers or kill your business, you can have a hole in the wall, if the food is great, they will come! I’ve known restaurateurs personally, and that is what they learned. So I don’t know if you misinterpreted what Gordon said, or he was having an off moment, because he knows if the food isn’t the number one priority, you will not remain open. Cheers
Thanks James! Loved the dandruff problem comment. In spite of the fact that Nusr-Et is struggling globally because of its prices, I have seen very few reviews damning its quality and service. This is the real reason it continues to exist. Price aside, it is not a bad dining experience. The question forl Nusr-Et to survive is to find a better accommodation to the customers. Will he do that, I doubt it.
Thank you for watching! Yeah, the service was excellent and the restaurant is a good looking place, but with such high prices, it's understandable that people would go elsewhere.
Love your videos! I would really suggest you check out the House of Prime Rib in San Francisco. It's a perfect encapsulation of what this city was in its heyday. Non-pretentious too, it's the anti #SaltBae. Another option here: Tommy's Joint. Either way, it's time to make a trip to the west coast. :-)
Thanks for the recommendations! Yeah, the House of Prime Rib is a spot that I've always wanted to try. I've definitely got to get over to the city sometime.
If I want a show, I'll go to the local Hibachi joint. It appears Salt Bae's empire might be coming to an end - and rightfully so. At least you tried it, and I know that's what you do bringing this to us. Great video and I appreciate the "heads up" on this establishment as well as many others in your videos. Huge fan!

Gold leaf isn't even that expensive. The amount you get on the steak isn't worth more than $20 yet they charge far more for the privilege.
The reason people do things like eat gold is to generate social status which they then convert into other more practical things like Reputation, Sex/romance and bussiness opportunities in more money.

If they can shift their attention to delivering value for money and away from catering to "whales" with gimmicky 10,000% markup steaks and a charismatic celebrity CEO sprinkling rock salt on your head and all over your shirt sleeves at the table, then I think the company could have some legs.
Well said!
Wow that didn't seem worth the price. It was cool that you got a pic with Salt Bae.
Yeah, it was definitely overpriced.
There’s an interesting restaurant in Norway called THE IRIS. Funny I think you did a review on a restaurant with the same name. When I watched a video about it it seemed right up your alley. It now has a Michelin star. I love the philosophy and practices of the chef.
That's a restaurant that I would love to go to in the future.
WOW another amazing review thank you
Thank you!
Nice one dude. I'm never eating there but I have certainly wondered what it's like.
Thanks for watching!
I think he had his time in the sun and now people are looking past the glitz to the substance. Well done for not laughing at the baklava presentation!
Haha! Yeah, it was pretty ridiculous.
It was awful, expensive and offensive…but I just had to give it a try! 😂😂😂
Thank you so much!
Yes and no. He never forced anyone to eat at his restaurant (s).
And you seem to forget that for higher end restaurants, the most important element is the service, then the ambiance, the third only is the food.
Listen to Gordon Ramsay and Marco Pierre White and they told that in some docus about their restaurant(s).
@@khoi83 Never said that, curious where you came up with that comment?
Yeah, the service was excellent and the restaurant is a good looking place, but with such high prices, it's understandable that people would go elsewhere.
very entertaining video as usual thank you james and shout out to your wallet for taking the hit
Haha! Thank you!
OMG I can't believe you went here!!! LMAO!!
Looking forward to the EMP review for sure!!!
Yeah, I like to mix it up with my videos!
Apart from the gold stuff it seems pretty reasonable given that it is essentially dinner and a show.
A fair review...you took one for the team on this one.
Thank you!
You should have sprinkled Maldon Salt off your arm.
Haha! I managed to get the salt on my steak and that's what I care most about.
Another really good one to try is Tad's, just off Union Square. Old school vibe with old school prices.
I agree 100%. I ran a top steakhouse for years. I'm not paying just because. Nope!
Indeed!
Lots of laughs in this one (as you would expect with Salt Bae). Wait, where's the Longhorn video???
There's no Longhorn video. I sometimes film myself at other restaurants if I feel like I will reference the place in the future.
$25 for baklava is insulting
Let me just scoop the potatoes here so i can scoop them again.
Mind blown*
I do that because it's not only easier to reach, the potatoes absorb the delicious meat juices as well.
For over $50 for 3 shrimp they’d have to be Tiger Prawns for me to be willing to pay that price.
I know what you mean.
It better be organic tiger prawns, and even then, I would need 10 on the plate for the $50 price tag
Huge fan!
Thank you so much!
This video sent me down the Salt Bae rabbit hole lol. I had never heard of him before.
He's quite the character. Thanks for watching!
