      BTW, Jason.
      I’ve worked in audio and video post for over 30 years, mostly music and film production and a bit of TV and DVD authoring. While I wouldn’t class myself as an editor, as I’ve generally worked overseeing productions, I do a lot of editing - slowly :)
      I started on Premier in the early 90s, a bit of Avid in the late 90s (didn’t like it) but mostly Edius for almost the last 20 years. This has all been on Windows and during that time there have been smatterings of FCP when working with people on Mac.
      I made a slow permanent transition from Windows to Mac during the last 18 months, it took a while because I knew Edius very well and it was hard to migrate while making my UA-cam videos. Plus, it is Windows only which also made the move to Mac and another NLE quite difficult for me.
      Anyway, enough of that boring life story :)
      It’s been almost 6 months now since I cut the cord and I’ve only switched on my Windows machines for mostly file transferring and specific codec transcodes and re-wraps as I’ve become more used to my Mac and Resolve Studio. Your videos have been a MASSIVE help to me for finding quick answers to a lot of Resolve technical routines as I’ve been forcing myself to forget my Edius muscle memory.
      I also think you’ve got a great presentation style and personality and you get your points over perfectly and succinctly. On that point, I should take some tips from you for my own channel as I don’t know when to shut up :) Plus, you’ve got a great accent 👍
      Thank you so much for your insight and help.
      Cheers,
      Dave.

    Returned to this video again. thanks. I do have a question. If I have audio clip A (with two people saying something) that I play while recording a video and I do, say 3 takes. Now I have a video clip where the audio clip A is slightly heard a few times. I can't sync that easily- need to visually drag the audio clip A to each occurrence of it in my video- manually adjusting it with waveform. I wish there was a way to get auto help for a section- because sometimes the waveform in the video is very tiny and it is very hard to sync. It seems like there should be a way to do this because the software should be able to look at the waveform for you and light up a section from video and a short audio clip.

    • @JasonYadlovski
      @JasonYadlovski  2 роки тому +1

      You can probably make a cut in the clip so the section you want to sync is separated from the whole clip. Do the same with the audio clip, then select both clips, right click and choose sync by waveform. That should do it.

The production audio that i have synced to my A camera via the Media tab shows the 6 tracks of audio but in my group A & B cam when I lay that into the timeline it is only showing one track of audio when I lay it into the timeline. This is normally how I use groups when I'm working in avid so wasn't too worried at first because in avid if I match back to the audio I can then match back again and it reveals the original audio with all the tracks. When I right-click on the group clip it doesn't show an option for clip attributes. Is there a way to have the Group I've already made show or hide those additional audio tracks or is that something I have to remake the group to fix?

Sometimes I've needed to go back to using the original Camera audio but can't because every time the Video clip now has the Audio clip baked into it. The only work around I have found is to make a duplicate copy of the Video clip BEFORE the sync process so that I have a copy of it with Camera audio only.

      As long as you have some scratch audio, you should be able to have resolve match up your good audio with your scratch audio. You might just need to use multiple clips of the good audio in different tracks to match the parts you want.

If you’re not sure how to read link/unlink, just select it right click go down to link clips all the way at the bottom, and that should unlink them first and then re-link them again. @@JasonYadlovski Meanwhile i've done (only a little bit) investigation. There IS an limiting case what DR can handle for syncing. I tried a roughly 35min clip by an Panasonic HC-X1 (ref audio@48k) and a Zoom F8 (shotgun@96k). Then i downsampled the F8 recording to 48k. It perfectly suited as described. Now... what if one of these devices crystal would run away by a small amount of detuning? I simulated that by stretching or squeeizing the F8's part.
      Ever i made two versions, one of speeding up (shortening the wav), one by slowing down (stretchening). I took versions by 0.05%, then 0.02% and at last 0.005%. So... stretching roughly 35mins by 0.005% means additional 107ms in length. So delay between 50 and 150ms typically sounds like schoolyard echo. This can happen quiet often with devices' independent crystals over half an hour.
      Using the rude version changed by 0.05% (roughly one second difference) and 0.02% (~430msecs) Resolve refused to sync against. Whenever i tried so DR reported: "No match was found when attempting to align these clips."
      Then, with the 0.005% version it could catch up. I was astonished to see that DR equilibrates the audio in the middle. I clapped in the video. In the leading part (for the streched audio) the HC-X1' track lagged behind, at the end of the clip the F8' track lagged behind. So in the middle part of the clip the sound is nailed.
      I didn't had time to proof exactly where the limit is. But there is a limit we have to care for. Personally i think thats not a big deal if we know our equipment and its behavour good enough. I don't have a tentacle sync-e set, otherwise i would check how far the limit could be pushed then, by syncing against the audible timecode (either by DR or the tentacles timecode tool).

      HI! I have that issue sometimes and I just make a cut, then bump the audio a few frames before continuing. If you already have all your cuts, I would use the Dynamic Trim Mode (3rd icon from the left on the toolbar just above the timeline), select the clip, then you can hover the mouse on the clip until you see the icon look like this: () and you can 'slip' the audio inside the clip boundaries or hover the mouse over the clip and use the comma and period keys to move the audio frame by frame. You'd have to do this for each clip.
      Another option is to use the match frame tool and just match frame to the beginning of the video part of the clip, then grab just the audio and bring that down into the timeline.
      Hope the options help!

    What do you do if the video clip and the audio file are not the same length? As in, when I manually sync the beginning, the back isn't synced. When I sync the audio at the end, the beginning isn't synced. I know it has to do something with frame rate or sample rate, but I can't find a fix.

    • @JasonYadlovski
      @JasonYadlovski  3 роки тому

      Hi! What I do is just make a cut every once and a while, then realign the audio and keep editing until you need to make a cut and bump the audio again. Could be different frame rates between the video and the timeline (i.e. 23.976 vs 24 fps)

    • @austinshoupe3003
      @austinshoupe3003 3 роки тому +1

      @@JasonYadlovski definitely suspect the frame rates aren't the same, but I'm not finding a way to tell davinci the correct frame rate. I figure that would be the easier approach if it were possible.

    From experience, the 2 video sync method that relies on waveform doesn't work well or at all if you're recording something with wildly varying sounds with multiple cameras (say a concert video, filmed in a wide are with cameras dotted on different spots for different angles). Im not sure if theres a way to make it work since the video's audio varied too much on each camera for Davinci to accurately sync them.

    • @JasonYadlovski
      @JasonYadlovski  3 роки тому

      Hi! That makes total sense, it seems to work best when you have a good sync point and your audio is fairly clean. I could see it being a problem at something like a concert or something with varied Audio. In that case maybe you need to use time code to sync if possible.

    Wot could be the reason my voice over audio file is not playing in edut page in resolve 17 ? I create voice over lectures

      Timecode is if you have all of your video synced to the same time. For example all footage/cameras start at 0:00 and every time the recording is stopped and started, they all have the same timecode on the footage. Does that make sense? Thanks for watching!

    Hey, just starting on Davinci. In premiere I would sync my audio and video with clip markers. Syncing by waveform never works for me. Is there a similar functionality in davinci? I've imported my project from Premiere with all my clip markers in place, but now I need to sync them up. Could someone help?

      There are a few other methods to sync the clips. They should be in that same menu when you try to sync. I'm not at my computer now, but I think you can use in/out points, timecode, waveforms and I think there's another that i'm not thinking of....🤔

    Will this also work to synch several edited, modified and short clips to the original audio timeline-and all at one go, do you happen to know?
    Just to amplify (unintended humour), you have an audio track which you split it into several smaller and improved audio clips but which now have spaces between each small segment (perhaps because you are cleaning up background interruptions, etc). Can each of the smaller clips now be synched to the original (and hopefully at one go)?
    This would be a help during editing particularly to remove out-takes. Another great video, J. Thanks.

    • @JasonYadlovski
      @JasonYadlovski  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Les! Resolve only lets you sync 2 clips at a time so far, but it seems to be pretty smart about it. By that I mean it moves all of the synced items and clips don't become 'unsynced' by syncing new clips. For me anyway, it all seems to stay intact. So while it's a pain you can't select a bunch of clips and sync them all at once, you can do it will all of them, 2 clips at a time. Hope that helps answer your question! Thanks for watching!

      Hi! To manually align clips, you've got a few options. 1 - just drop both clips in the timeline, drag them to to get them lined up fairly close, then use the period and comma keys with the clip selected to move the clip frame by frame until the audio matches. 2 - try this tip in the media page: ua-cam.com/video/o_YsfqEkaKQ/v-deo.html
