I would imagine your mom is also more drawn to A7X since one of their biggest inspirations is Metallica. A lot of their songs can have a similar sound, and I'm sure your mom knows Metallica well.
They really don't, this album kinda does because its literally trying to be a new generations version of old school heavy metal, the rest of their discography is entirely different, one of the best things about avenged is the fact that none of their albums sound like another.

I've been an A7X fan since City of Evil was released and they have been my favorite band ever since so they are my natural go-to. However I recently got into Slipknot finally a few years ago and love them too! I don't get why anyone has to 'pick a side'. Just enjoy whatever band you want to. If the music makes you happy that's all that should matter.
I'm getting onboard the Trivium gang because they're always providing content for fans, personally. If you listen to Ascendancy, The Crusade, Shogun, In Waves, Vengeance Falls, and What the Dead Men Say in full, you're probably gonna love them. 😄💙

Avenged Sevenfold is EASILY my favorite out of the two! They got me into metal. Started out listening to AC/DC when I was around 6, and when I learnt more about the music a natural evolution was Avenged Sevenfold. Found some of the stuff off their self-titled and fell in love! I remember picking up Hail To The King at my local store the day it came out! Good times :)
Been one of my favourite bands since i discovered them in 2003. I love the diversity and that they touch som many sub-generes of rock and metal. I love heavy riffs, and i know there are a lot of bands that are heavier, but i love how melodic A7X can be, without having to be shredding all the time. A lot of tastefull melody lines 👏🏻
What gets me is that I can recognize every riff or solo and know immediately which song I'm listening to. Syn and Zacky never repeat themselves. Even if Matt wasn't extremely diverse as a vocalist, or as powerful as he is, the whole band understands how to write any kind of song they want and make things work. None of them sound alike. Slipknot songs can kinda blend together on most of Iowa, .5, and WANYK.
Same loved them since I found them just out of high-school. Right when city of evil came out. For me this is their weakest album mostly due to the quality of the drums. But it's still great.
The drills blasted Hail to the king as we marched out of the gates of Honor Hill. Proudest achievement of my life at that point. I kept my cross rifles in my skin all the way back to the bay.
Slipnot and Avenged might both be metal... otherwise they could not be more different. Both truly awesome bands in their own regards, I see no point in picking
The closest they come is some of the stuff from Vol. 3 and All Hope is Gone. It fits with the stuff from Waking the Fallen through Nightmare. Otherwise, the bands don't have the same feeling on other albums.
I will never understand the hate A7 gets… they’re so fkn solid and they come with it! I love Slipknot as well and have since I was in middle school, but once I heard Avenged Sevenfold in HS, I loved them. Was so happy when they dropped this song!

But then again this may be the only decent quality video out there that hasn't been nuked by youtube's auto-copyright ninjaware.

I like both styles in their own rights, but being raised on EVERYTHING from the 40s on to modern day, music needs two crucial components, soul and rhythm. That being said I prefer the Stone Sour style more than I do the Slipknot style (though I love both). My recommendation would be Mission Statement by Stone Sour, both of you would enjoy it I promise you👌

I have so much respect for Slipknot and I have always loved their music, but A7X was the first band I discovered on my own and not shown trough family or friends. They hold a special place in my heart and are responsible for the music taste I have today and the person I am.
Avenged Sevenfold is definitely not JUST radio friendly 😂 Most bands have to make some radio friendly songs to reach that bigger audience, but you will never hear songs like A Little Piece Of Heaven, God Hates Us, Clairvoyant Disease, Not Ready To Die, Desecrate Through Reverence, & so on, on the radio😂🤘🏼

To be fair, Metallica is one of Corey Taylor's biggest influences. I think it's the Iron Maiden influence that really gets Hefmom.
