    So one thing I realized I need to make clear is that I am NOT going to start getting relaxers. When I said my natural hair journey is over I meant wearing my hair in its natural state i.e. curly. I’m going to be a straight hair natural & I don’t really care if I get heat damage. Hope that clears up some things! ❤️

    • @KH-xx1rg
      @KH-xx1rg 3 роки тому +121

      I’m getting to that point! I’m not gonna get a relaxer but I’ve just been into straight hair lately. I hate that if you wear your hair curly, you “can’t” straighten it bc of the potential heat damage. I’m honestly just tired. I like the length and style that I get with straight hair so I’m just going to stick with that for a while. If my curl pattern gets looser bc of damage…oh well 🤷🏽‍♀️

      Ohhh! Thanks for clearing that up! I totally understand. I started my locs because I was just bored with my hair and tired of the time it was taking also. Now I love it again! The only problem I have with relaxers is it is so harmful for the scalp. Do you girlfriend 🤗🙏🏿!

      In my honest opinion, your still NATURAL, Natural in my eyes refer to opting out of relaxers. Also my best friend who is a licensed cosmetologist said we naturals are not defining “Heat Damage” correctly. She said my hair which I pressed only twice on my own and caused a demarcation between the new growth and the part that looks quite thin since I longer pressed it anymore. I started referring to it as heat damaged, she said “No, it’s Heat Trained, not Heat Damaged”. So don’t term it as heat damage, it’s actually heat trained. And I commend you for staying Natural and going with the straight instead of curly. I totally understand and may join you.

I also hated not being able to just be ready and look cute! I also ended my journey of 5 years in September. I do still wear my hair curly now and then but no longer pressure myself to wear my curls. It was almost a guilt thing? And worse, I hated when people (who knew about my journey) would comment whenever I’d wear my hair straight, saying they prefer my natural hair. SMH, clearly the video was not fully watched or assumptions were made. This women said she was becoming a straight natural not getting a relaxer. Meaning she’s going to be wearing it straight now instead of worrying about wearing it in her natural state. And let me just say this, she can continue her healthy hair journey being a straight natural or curly natural. It’s all about hair care and a regiment that work and whatever this women decides, don’t ASSUME because it’s not still kept in its natural state, she might have to regrow it back, nope pretty sure she can maintain the healthiness. This is for just for those of you who thought she was as getting a relaxer. She also put it in the comment.

    Thanks for being honest about this. The problem is that the “natural hair community” can often times be judgmental when someone decides to not wear their natural hair texture. It’s almost like silk pressing or blow drying is a sin nowadays and if you do it you are going against the “natural hair 101 principle” and all the fear that comes with heat damage. I think we should let people choose what to do with their hair and let them do what makes them feel and look comfortable. I think we all know the pros and cons of having curly or coily hair at this point and need to stop judging others for their choices. Let’s not also forget that straightening and maintaining a silk press or blow dry also requires work not to mention rain, sweat, or water in general will be your worse enemy when trying to maintain a straight hair style.

    very relatable. I think this hits especially hard for girls with kinkier textures whose hair was never their "hobby" so to speak. A lot of these natural hair UA-camrs experienced success with their natural hair journey in part because their hair was an actual HOBBY for them. It's what they WANTED to do with their spare time. But for someone like me, doing hair was NEVER my hobby. It was never that interesting to me and it was never what I wanted to be doing with my weekends. I think that's why so many of us tend to live in back to back protective styles. I used to (still kind of do) feel bad about not really knowing how to style my hair, but it has just genuinely never been an interest of mine. You can't force an interest that isn't there. And then of course, even when I DID spend the entire day doing my hair, it still looked awful, which just reinforced the idea that it wasn't worth the time.

    I’m tired of the wash days as well, but now I’m heavily dabbling with protective styles (strictly) not into washing my hair every two weeks and what not. Plus what I notice in my natural hair journey, I’m a lazy natural!!! I’ve been at it for five years (started when I was 16, I’m now 21) I was really really heavy with styling when I was in high school (Bantu knot outs, braid outs, twist outs) but now, I’m just not into that. I started doing wash n go’s this summer and they came out BEAUTIFUL!!! But the way my type 4, low porosity, fine strand, high density hair is set up! It didn’t love the style so much even with mastering the stretch state, banding and all that 🤷🏾‍♀️. I love the style, but it didn’t love me 😭. Any who, do your thang, as long as it’s true to you, it will be good!

I remember I use to really be a product junkie now it’s the minimum. Although I won’t put a relaxer in my hair I really just been having fun with protective styling. I had the same exact feelings about my natural hair...TIED forreal. So... I tried a Brazillian Blowout - and I had a full strength treatment done so my hair is basically straight (you can customize to keep curl texture if you want) and I love it, best decision I've made for my hair in years. Less than one hour wash days start to finish (incl styling) and humidity is a non-issue. I know folks take issue with the chemicals but i do not and hey - it was this or go from lower-mid-back length to a relaxed pixie cut - that's where my head was at. And I will be getting it done again when it fades (lasts 4-6 months). Anyway... you're beautiful, your hair is beautiful- curly or straight - and your personality is fab so always do you and stay true!! 😘

    I fully understand. I feel that way about my daughter's hair so I have chosen to silk press it for the winter. Natural hair really is a lifestyle. It's a healthier choice for many. Natural hair has become a trend or trendy for many. It can be very tasking and that's why I choose to keep my Natural hair short while my daughter likes a sleek look. We will switch it up from season to season. My natural hair loves the humid summers but doesn't respond well in the colder months. It's seasonal for me.

    I feel you! I sometimes wanna quit too buuuuut natural hair doesn't have to be that way. Lately I have been washing and styling in the shower. Takes me 15 Minutes...then I diffuse for another 15 and then I am done! That way I wash my hair more often and it is way easier to detangle. I have 4a/b hair and accepting frizz has really saved me a lot of headache. We naturals often just do too much when there is really no need.

    After two years of being natural with my 3c curls I have also thought that doesn’t work the effort for me, I straightened my hair all my life and was always very healthy, but now I take so much care of my hair, I use the best and more expensive products, I do everything that should be done to retain moisture and to keep it healthy, BUT my hair was never so damaged as now, I have all kind of split ends all over my hair that I never saw before in my life plus the knots. Girl I feel you it definitely is exhausting some times. I’ve been natural about 7 years and during the year 2-4 I was in love with it, I felt like it suited me I watched allll the video etc. now for me to watch a natural hair video I either have to be in a mood and looking something up or else I ain’t doin it. My hair is around my mid to lower back and I straightened it to do like a girly pony tail w/ a long bang I lovvveed that hair style! I straighten it twice back to back and I guess when I press my hair out I go CRAZY in my roots b/c randomly throughout my head an inch of my roots were straight or significantly loosened. I didn’t really mind at first until it started grow out and you could see the ~~-~~~ patten in my head. Thankfully when it’s all out and down you can’t really tell. It’s been a year since and I have about 7 inches of “new growth” and can’t help but feel pressure to big chop b/c my hair Isn’t perfect like it was before. I think the natural hair community can get toxic b/c why should I fell like I have to cut off 12 + inches of primary healthy long hair?? I’m not doing it

    I textlaxed my hair this past Friday and I LOVE IT 🥰
    After 7 years, I too had grown tired of being Natural. The detangling was too time consuming on wash days AND whenever I leave the house! I miss wearing straight hair and wearing the roller wrap hairstyle (YES….I’m old school & I used to rock that hairstyle in high school, lol). The wrap hairstyle is what GREW MY HAIR & I also had body in my hair. I couldn’t get that silky & body while being natural. It’s like after using the heat from the hairdryer, I had to use TRIPLE HEAT from the flat iron or hot comb, AND then use the curling iron…which would then cause me to worry about HEAT DAMAGE! 😩😩 Let’s not even mention the amount of money that was spent on hair products (YES…I became a product junkie)! 🤦🏽‍♀️
    At the end of the day, I just think everyone should do what works for them! If Natural hair works for you, then continue with your journey. If relaxed hair works for you, then stick with it…..just remember to TAKE CARE OF IT & KEEP IT HEALTHY!!

    Yes girl! I support fully! I have type 4 hair and I just became a heat natural. I will be blow drying my hair ( no straightening for me). I’ve been natural and caring for my hair since I was 13 and I’m 22 now. I had tons of set backs many of times and I’ve been stuck at the same shoulder length. Some natural hair practices haven’t worked for me and it took me a long time to figure out. Heat is my friend especially now that I know how to use it properly. I want to be low maintenance as possible because I have a lot going on (college, working 2 jobs, pet,etc. I do not have 6+ hours to spend on my hair nor do I have the 3 days to let air it dry. It’s ridiculous for my life. I no longer deal with intense single strand knots or continually painful tangling in the roots of my hair. Air drying and stretching in braids just wasn’t enough. Styling is super quick now and I can do the things that are most important to me. I can’t keep up with natural hair gurus and everyone should always do what works best for them.
