      I honestly didn't even think that was related. There are treatments some people get. I went into a sort of remission when I was a teenager though(it doesn't undo it but it just means it doesn't progress more-its not in remission now. Having kids took it out of it but then we knew that was a possibility before I was even pregnant so...).
      Didn't even relate these two things.
      Fun fact though. The rod they do on some people is fucking horrific. I get that for some people it totally works but a friend of mine had it done when he was still a kid and as a young adult sometimes he'd end up laying on the ground dealing with the spasms. Because the rod forces his spine to be straight but the body is resisting and that causes crap.
      I'm not sure if a rod would have honestly been better for me. I've had spasms too but I don't have a rod to exasterbate the issue either so...
      It's not even a little bit the same thing. Not everyone can get the rod and generally you have to be young and have it be considered bad enough for the risk to even be a thing. But technically you could say ways to straighten the spine or force it that way do exist. They are also incredibly dangerous and cannot be done if the spine progresses too far as well. It's all very complicated. I'm not sure if I am too old now but I do imagine that if a doctor deemed it necessary or a good sort of possible treatment for me at my age that it would be a more difficult process at thirty than it would have been when I was still supposed to be growing. I think chances of rejection of the rod are also higher when your older where a child's body is overall more likely to adapt? Not sure. Not a doctor. Just have scholiosis and pay attention when doctors speak and then research a bit too? But seriously. I could be wrong. I don't actually know and some is honest speculation but the rod is a thing. Not really how you imagine though. It's something your spine is actively doing. It's not really passive like hair.

    I’m so glad you found Rachel and Jun! Her hair is pretty majestic and I think completely her natural colour. I got my hair straightened with the Japanese method and the first salon did not do it properly and left me with wavy hair. The second salon did a great job but just as you said, my hair grew out and I had to straighten the curly roots which meant touching the straight hair with the straightener and damaging it faster. I couldn’t just go for a swim or go skiing without worrying about my hair. It was way too high maintenance for my lifestyle. And I have fine hair so it was so pin straight and flat without any body which I didn’t like.

      S K I did my whole head originally for 150USD. Then moved to an expensive city and now do the roots touchup for just under 200USD (many places include the haircut). That’s on the cheaper end for a large city outside of Asia. I’ve done it at both Japanese and Korean salons. Wasn’t difficult to find, but during the consultation it’s good to ask how long they’ve been doing the treatment. Best to find someone experienced.

    • @Mar-gy2tm
      @Mar-gy2tm 4 роки тому +17

      @C.O. I haven't noticed any damage and my hair has not lost any luster. However, the perm does make your hair less able to hold moisture so to avoid damage over time I started some new habits: Deep condition once a week, use conditioner when I wash and a hair oil after. I also use a wooden wide-tooth comb instead of a brush; there's not much to style when you have pin straight hair and combs in general are more gentle.

    I actually got my hair chemically straightened in Japan 9 months ago and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. My hair is dyed blonde but the hairdresser used a pretty new straightening cream and Olaplex and the breakage was really minimal. Before that, I would frequently straighten my hair or put it in a bun because I didn’t like the way it looked loose (think Hagrid). Since getting it permanently straightened, I always wear it open, which makes me feel more beautiful than having it in a bun and is healthier for my hair, and only straighten my roots very occasionally. My hair is longer and healthier looking than previously, my ends stay straight longer after getting cut (ie fewer split ends) and I don’t have to go through the process of straightening. On top of that I feel more beautiful. Fellow Hagrid-hair ladies - find a good hairdresser and go for it!

    • @QueenBlond
      @QueenBlond 4 роки тому +1

      222_ Chan 222_ Chan My hair is naturally also poofy and curly so that’s not a problem. The process may damage your hair a little: it involves chemicals that change the structure of your hair so it’s to be reckoned with. However, updated treatments combined with Olaplex (or an alternative) make it far less damaging than it might have been just a few years ago. The damage and hair loss was really minimal for me. Also, if you regularly straighten your hair anyway than this might be a less damaging solution overall. Regarding split ends: I’d recommend cutting them before undergoing treatment. Do some research and find a good salon. Any professional hairdresser will not even do the treatment on you if they think it will cause too much damage.

    I have 80s kinky hair naturally. Not wavy, not curly, just somewhere in between. I had the Japanese straightener done (in San Diego) because I was going to be in (very humid) Hong Kong for 3 months & was worried about having styling tools that were compatible with their plugs. At the time I had been getting Henna coloring by Aveda for a few years.
    The treatment took 6 hours and cost me $400. Zero damage despite not having virgin hair.
    THE BEST DECISION EVER!!! I could blow dry my hair with a vent brush and it would be straight and good to go. I could also still set my hair in rollers and it would hold the curl. No issues even in extreme humidity. It was insanely convenient! I actually loved when my roots started coming in, at about 3 months, because I had a little more volume at the top. I never had an awkward grow in period. I'm shocked that Brad's not a fan but I sure as heck am! Highly recommend!

    I got my hair permanently straightened for around 5 years (the roots touch-ups were terrible btw) and only recently have I realized I shouldnt damage my natural curly hair and spend a lot of money to look like everyone else
    Yes it was convenient to wake up and look bomb without dealing with the curliness but tbh I love my hair now.

      Tbh it takes us so long to take care of it because we didn’t grow up learning how. It’s that we have to learn a whole new curly/wavy methodology when we decide to go natural, because straight hair is for some reason the “norm” and things like dry brushing, regular use of silicones are just part of life for us. I spent so much of my 23 years straightening it, and the more of us that do that, the less well known curly methods will be for others like us. I’m so glad I stopped damaging my hair while I’m still young! Good luck to you!

    This is a very common treatment here in the Philippines, humidity is all time high in here all year round and frizz is always the enemy for many of us. Most Filipinos have wavy hair and it's harder to manage in this weather especially when you have thick hair. Also, Asian countries is not curly/wavy hair product or salon friendly, you can rarely find a salon that specializes in curly hair in the Philippines or products that is specifically for curly/wavy type, it costs atleast 3x as much to have it shipped from the US. It's more of a cultural thing too, pin straight black hair is something deemed as a standard of beauty in most Asian countries.

    My mother is a hairdresser who trained in permanent hair straightening and rebonding about 20 years ago, there are different Japanese brands and knockoff brands that can obviously have different effects on hair, and especially if not done by a trained professional can result in hair being severely damaged. BUT as long as someone qualified is treating your hair and using legit and professional brands, such as Paimore, the perm will turn out fine and in some cases even improve the quality of the hair! Just feel like Brad might be slightly ill informed, probably based on his own experience so definitely not trying to slate or question his knowledge, but just letting people know you shouldn’t be afraid of getting it done if you’re considering consulting with a hairdresser (who will determine whether or not your hair is suitable for the chemical) and with a proper rebonding business!

      @@iheartanime1011 no he's right. It DOES damage your hair. But just that heat, putting hair up all the time, bleaching and dying does the exact same thing. People still do it anyway. And it's just hair, it grows back too so do whatever you want.

    • @larageremia6235
      @larageremia6235 5 років тому +3

      As I said before, and I’m only saying this because I’ve grown up with someone who does this treatment as a full time job, it is a strong chemical that can leave the hair damaged. For fine, bleached hair or hair full of silicone this is the case. But since this treatment chemically changes the ph balance of the hair, for strong, coarse, untreated hair it can do absolute wonders in terms of texture, glossiness and moisture. It also makes your hair feel weightless and it dries in half the time. But yeah as you said, people bleach, colour, use heat and products that equally ruin the hair and a lot of people don’t mind having their hair a little drier than normal if it means not having to straighten it every single day. Just wish Brad would maybe see the results of people who really love the perm, just disappoints me a tiny bit because I know literally hundreds of people who do

    Coming from someone who did the keratin hair treatment this is my honest opinion! I used to straighten my hair every other two or three days but during the summer, it was like once a day or every other day only if I can keep it not so greasy and dirty 😢 Once I did keratin my hair started looking so beautiful, not dead burn and damage. My hair grew out so much!!! I went from straightening my hair multiple times a month to only once every six months. Yes the temperature is high 450° is crazy for your hair, but it’s only one time every six months compared to constantly straightening on low temp taking forever, wasting money on heat protectant treatments that don’t really do much I still get split ends and damaged Hair, I’d say it’s worth the salon visit. Straightening my hair more than once a week was more maintenance than this treatment. Likeeee ima keep doing keratin straightening treatment till I can’t anymore. And with working a full time job running a business and about to start school again it saves so much time 😊 so yes definitely worth it in my opinion!
