1:20 To expand on this a bit, there's the concept of 'Abare', to attack while at a disadvantage, which JDCR is sort of referring to here. Say YOU have been jabbed or you blocked a slash kick and are now at a disadvantage, your options are to block, move or attack. If you choose attack, or in other words "cut the opponent's pressure", you should ensure your attack is the right one for the job. A fast, launching, crushing (causes your opponents move to whiff) move is ideal and a hop kick ticks all of those boxes. Crushing so it has a better chance of hitting by avoiding an attack, launching so it yields the most reward and fast so you have a chance of beating an attack that is too slow. For example, +1 advantage is what a blocked jab gives, and it really isn't that much. If they jab and you block, then follow up with a generic d/f+1 (13~14 frame long move), your 10 frame jab will counter hit them because it will come out first. As another example, say they block your move and you are now at say -5 disadvantage. If you know they are likely going to try and ch you with a down jab (d+1) to get advantage and begin their offense, it will be a good idea to attack out of this disadvantage with something that will crush that down jab like an orbital heel move. I could go on as abare is a really deep concept to consider, just understand that just because you're at a disadvantage it doesn't mean your turn has ended.
I'd like to add on that it isn't always a good idea to start your offense with a jab, because it can give your opponent an easy visual indicator that you're about to do something. It's not like it's bad though. Jdcr just covered all the usefulness of applying jab pressure
You're right, but that's where mind games come into play, it's never a good idea to be guessing what's coming next, you're bound to get caught with something (high, mid, low, or grab) jdcr is good with dragunov because he keeps his opponent guessing, not the other way around. And the jab does that for you.
@@mikehawk4477 it also means you can bait a reaction from your opponent and that means jab makes it easier to read your opponent's playstyle... With just jabbing!
Keep doing what you’re doing JDCR, these vids are super helpful. You are my favorite Tekken player to watch and one of the reasons I’ve stuck with Tekken. 😤🙏

Great vid JD. Nice and simple, easy to understand and a lot of info. COULD YOU PLEASE DO A SHORT VIDEO ON STEVE OFFENSE - like the Dragunov video... PLEEEASE!!!!!!
This I did (and still do) with Angel in TTT2 a lot. Poking with just her left jab. Or sometimes with (f+)1,2. Because Angel does not have fast mids, her fastest mids are 15f (df+1, df+2, df+4), it's important to get as much frames as possible so as to set up her moves. Hers was a weak way to do this, but poking with 1 (+1 on block) was a setup for 1,2 on hit (+7), which in turn was a setup for df+4, standing 3, electric or whatever moves you want. When they stop pressing buttons at that point you can comfortably do other, riskier moves such as b+2, hellsweep or basically whatever.
Use jab on minus Fram means getting high crush launched, which makes down jab better because it's recovery isn't bad either but your opponent can hop kick or low parry. Hence mix up retaliation with mids until your opponent magic four which give a duck/ss launch punish. Basically.
One jab is +8 on hit. Use that to start a frame trap. For example, f+3+4 or standing 4 will counter hit launch if they press buttons after getting hit with a one jab.
When i just heard about you having a youtube channel. No second thought for subscribing, notified by bell, like and share. We hope you have move vids to come or tutorial tips like this one
JDCR thank you so much for making videos. You are one of the best ever Tekken players and it is a blessing for us to be able to get advice from you! :D
The key to getting very good at fighting games is to keep things simple. Simple is smooth, in your mind. Meaning Clear. Simple is slow in your mind. Meaning Understandable, and leaving you room to react to more stimuli like your opponents moves. Like special forces will say, Slow Is Smooth, And Smooth Is Fast. What this means is that doing simple, straightforward things that you have practiced well, might look slow to the uninitiated. But that slowness is smooth, understandable, in full control of yourself, and doing something slow, that you do well, is actually very smooth and efficient That efficiency gets things done MUCH BETTER and faster than hurried, reckless and out of control actions. Smooth and steady will reliably win more fights than wild and reckless.
I just got done watching an Anakin video of him explaining how to keep things simple so you can focus on adapting to your opponents strengths and weaknesses. My main issue that I’ve had in T8 so far has been trying to figure out what strings to throw out in neutral. That has been getting me screwed because while I’m trying to figure out my offense I’m not paying close enough attention to what my opponent is doing. Simple safe strings is the way to go rather than throw out a ton of strings hoping something eventually lands.
Would you consider doing a similar video to this one about crouch jabs? It's another essential tool often completely overlooked by beginners. Love you bro
