A message to all steve wilson fans / porcupine tree fans, get the 5.1 surround sound remix albums he has they are absolutely out of this world AMAZING. We are a group of audiophiles and and his albums are our gold standard demonstrating the absolute best in sound quality, production and music. The sound design aspect is always flawless.
I've been trying to get into 5.1 and such, any recommendations on how to start?
@@oreothebest absolutely, number 1 & 2 light bulb sun and in absentia from porcupine tree. Next would be the raven that refused to sing or to the bone from Steven Wilson. Also Steven done a heap of remasters of King Crimson, Yes and Gentle Giant,they are great but they sound best on vinyl in stereo because of that way the original production sounds which takes in a lot of other considerations.
Also the aforementioned recommendations are all in 24 bit 96 khz surround sound quality so if you got a decent system it really shines. Also you get a bonus documentary and a few extra tracks which are always really good.

@@oreothebest I just got a Sony BDP S590 Blu-ray player through a Denon 3808 reciever. The Sony has spidf (v.2) outputs so it can handle 24 bit 96k stereo or go to HDMI for 24/96 in surround sound. I would recommend a high quality CD/blu-ray player because the quality of the audio source originates an follows through the signal chain but the BDP s590 is cheap and still pretty good and plays SACD too. All digital no vinyl, vinyl remastering is not great these days and far too expensive.
@@aussie_philosopher8079 thanks sir. I have a Blu ray player all i need is speakers and stereo. Need money and space but i actually have a 5.1 of closure continuation which I'm excited to use one day.
If SW would release the stems, we could do similar re-mixes in different genres. I'd love to do a djent-esq version of this track.

This whole album is really great. Good music is good music. Fuck the purists who want you to make 'Fear of the Blank planet' again and again. You are, in the truest sense, a progressive musician. Mr. Wilson, never change.

Among other genres, I grew up listening to disco too, like ABBA, Boney M, Donna Summer, and Ottawan.
uhhh, ABBA was pop, not disco. And while Nile did alot ofr disco, I would place him and Chic much more towards funk. Oh and - who cares? This is an AWESOME mix
@@thefarmingartists4538 Yes, I know ABBA is mainly pop, but some of their songs, For example, "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)" are considered disco and that’s what I meant when I included them in the list.

I agree. I miss SW too. He's obviously free to do whatever he wants. I can't say TFB is a bad record, it's nice and easy to listen to but... it doesn't make me feel the same sensations. I miss the sound of piano, flute, drums, the goosebumps caused by a guitar solo, I miss SW's art of creating good music.

10 studio albums; 12 live albums; 6 compilations; 2 full-length concert vids; 3 demos; 7 EPs and 11 singles, all with bonus tracks; multiple re-issues, remixes and re-capitulations old and new. You can certainly miss Porcupine Tree, but it's not like they didn't leave us with a sizable legacy to enjoy and look back on ;)

It sounds much more better than original piece. It sounds more like Steven Wilson and Porcupine Tree from the album Up the Downstairs than Steven Wilson today. Original Up the Downstair, not remaster. BTW: I hate what you, Steven, do with remaster Up the Downstairs. Automatic percussion fits better in that album, that what you re-recorded a decade years later. Music from first version have so many air and space, not muffled like remaster. It's really sad that new fan cannot buy earlier version of that album.

It's a great remix overall. However, given that it's by Nile Rodgers, it would have been good to hear more of his signature 'chuck-a-chuck-a' guitar riffs.
Maybe he could still do that in a v2 edit? eg. by replacing the main pulsating bass-lead synth with his guitar -- in the chorus for example?
Nile's fast alternating strum patterns would perfectly complement that section.
Edit : On re-listening, Nile's riff are in there (in the chorus), however, they're getting drowned-out by lots of other things going on simultaneously. Maybe he could 'carve-out' space for his signature guitar sound initially, and then phase-in the other parts, layer-by-layer?

Very uninspired. Adding a funk guitar here and there doesnt make it a remix, for God's sake! I ve heard 10 times better remixes but then... these weren't from "Nile Rodgers".
