Currently scanning/radar allows players awareness of targets within 30km. With the advent of probes we could easily send the probe far away to see a 50-100KM sphere. An array of them would obviously expand that. Aquila, Carrack and BMM will have advanced sensor suites enabling even greater sensor ranges perhaps 1000s of KM. With all that in mind, how would you find a 340m Orion in the Aaron Halo that spans millions of KM? --- The Orion can in fact mine nearly on its own with a Terrapin, Aquila or Carrack spotter nearby. If the ship can pull asteroids to it, you would simply pre-align the ship to a QT point, leave QD spooled an mine away. As soon as your spotter sees anything approach, your gone to a random point in space.
Well I believe the devs have said that when this ship is in operation it will be easy to spot from great distances with huge light blooms similar to the operation of the pioneer. As for detecting the ship there are plenty of options hornet tracker for example. A well timed strike with a mantis and other ships could be effective. But until its here and we have more toys we can only wait and see how it all plays out. Either way will be fun to find out.
@@PIN-o7 Light blooms or other visuals may be visible to 100km or so, The massive EM/IR sig probably visible to 100s of km which still leaves it hidden in the vastness of space. I suspect even then, to find anything mining in an asteroid belt you will also need good intel such as known high value hot spots, transit corridors, or a spy in the org owning the ship. I seriously doubt any one ship will find a lone miner all by it self without a lot of luck and good intel.

Almost every ship bigger than a fighter won't be soloable, really. There will be NPC's but I've come to accept that with teamplay being implemented, all those ships are going to be much much better equipped with human players. And are likely going to be quite the hassle to operate on your own.

Early on, when they first announced it, they had the concept pack for sale along w/mining asteroid base for $350 or so. I bought mine shortly after announcment and they closed off the sale. I'm DYING to use this thing and have been planning my fleet and clan around it. They stated from day 1 of it's concept it'll never be able to land PlanetSide, but we'll see. I have a warden and Andromeda to accompany it and a friend has a repair ship and another has a misc freelancer dur max to transport cargo, a third has a full harvester/transport. We're planning on providing in space repair and fuel services just like the fuel rats on elite dangerous, but also have others to go find some of the derelict bangel carriers and other ships the devs said they'd have out there. While everyone has to pay an arm and leg to salvage/repair them, ours will be free.....ish (operating costs). Still need more ppl though.
i'm in a very small org atm with my american buddies..however in the future i intend to create and open a larger org. When that will be i can't say as of yet .
Personally feel like the raft is most likely cargo ship to keep it in the field due to the number of containers shown and it's economical operation. Tractor beam 3 off a full seperator, replace with 3 empties with no 3rd ship to help. Of course that's assuming they're using the same size cargo containers.
Ion own this game yet but when i do I'd imagine having 2 of this ships together with one Hull E guarded by 2 javelins and a fleet of fighters just in case all combat ready coz you will definitely be hauling around 20 million at one go divided between a crew of around 10 to 15 people for the whole fleet thats really nice profit
2 Orions would be 8 to 14 crew, 2 Javelins would be 24 to 160 crew. That's not 10 to 15 people. That's more like 32 people at a minimum. And likely running at low efficiency. The profits would be divided among 64, more likely. Which is one of the reasons I don't think that this ship will necessitate that much crew to be involved, to operate successfully. Hmm maybe. Interesting. I do like that you said 2 Orions. Because for 1 that would clearly be overkill. But 2 Orion's finding a large enough ore field... Maybe it could work.
Regarding it's size, what is like to a HULL-E, smaller (doubtful), same, 25%, 50%, x2, plus? ;-) I presume we'll be able to transfer material from one ship, ie: MOLE, Prospector to the Orion for refining, thus creating a mining fleet (with a Starferer for fuel and an Escort or two+ for cover)?
Have we heard anything about the release date of this ship? I have one, with unlimited lifetime insurance, but I've been sitting on it for years at this point. The wait is agonizing.
The only news I've seen is that teams working on it have re assigned to another areas, however I can't remember where I saw it on there website. I think it was the most recent roadmap update.
Definitely an org ship needing at least 3 to 4 hammerheads to escort around. It is a cash cow. I have size 2's on my mole so this monster has to have size 3"s. To get size 2's on the mole you have to upgrade it. Defaults are 1's. I suspect the drones are for transferring loads to haulers to move cargo from this ship. I hope others that have these are large orgs, just to operate them.
The question with this ship will be how to loot it and scrap it. For the Privateers in game this is the Great White Whale. This ship will be the birth of many fleet battles. It will have to be able to carry enough refined resources to finance a fleet for protection. A fighter escort isn't going to save this monster. I am looking at it having to be out for days to fill it. So refueling, hospitals, couple of ships with Hanger capabilities and so on will be needed. Use this ship with a small Crew at your own Peril
I wonder. I could see that. I could also see it be filled in an hour time, and be usable for 1 to 2 hour long operations to make a good profit. And this is not to downplay the Orion, but because of the realities of dealing with actual players. If it's going to be a semipermanent setup with lots of infrastructure required around it... I don't think that would work in practice, because of the amount of people required to stay online for something like that and the amount of pay involved. Having thought about this for a long time now, I'm starting to feel like things that require a near permanent stable infrastructure setup, will more likely revolve around (larger) player bases. Pure speculation on my part.

@@PIN-o7 First, please, understand It is a combat turret. size 5 are the starfarer's main turret size, it's about the original size of the orion, with the rise in size, it's potential new predators, it's ability to evade being reduced, also it is more likely a wandering ship out for a long time like the reclaimer( something about 8 or 9 turret total) it is not a combat ship, the BMM have size 8 weaponry and a good coverage, it is not a combat ship, why not giving the orion some defences ? the Stegosaurus was not a predator, but it was deadly. This ship can be bad at combat because how it handles, no hangar, but good at defending itself, does that not makes sense ? because it have external cargo too. It need defend.
@@PIN-o7 It is true the raft or the mole have laughable weaponry, that's kinda like argo, that doesn't seem to apply to all industrial ships, the reclaimer, the hull series, have pretty decent weapons and coverage for their size, also some combat ships like the liberator displays weak weaponry and coverage. RSI always display some good weaponry on their ships so far. At some point, mass has to count for something. It would be ridiculous this ship to be taken down by a light fighter. An arrow should be able to shoot it for a week and not penetrate its shields.
It's going to, armour and master modes are yet to be implemented.
Twinkle twinkle little star...
I have a lti one and a prospector so will start off in my prospector to get a start off uec then get a mole to train npc then take out inc on the npc and put them in the orion but will then buy my own cargo ship and sell it myself and replenish food and drinks and what ever they need that way the orion is always in the belt and out of harms way and a safe npc is a happy npc I would also take a none direct root to sell and supply.
Smart
The price of like 10x the 890 jump
It's not even half...
no vtol for it's size, no atmos. size 5 are bad, no hit the small target and no damages on the bigger targets.
ITS NOT A COMBAT SHIP
Most of the Connies are not combat ships, still they pack a serious punch for their size, the galaxy is also far from combat operations, it hold 3x the biggest orion's defensive turret.
I will fly all alone cause I have no friends
This ship will cost 100 mill plus
