This ship is maybe the sole reason that I want Star Citizen and want to to be finished. I even dreamt of such a ship once I was a kid and just was drawing those things. In my opinion, the Crucibles spectrum could be even wider with its scarab docking and undocking possibilties. There should be different Scarab Modules be available! 1.) Science / Exploration This ship could be easily a science or planet exploration ship, if the Scarab Module for example would be an outpost module, where instead of a large repair area, it would be more of an outpost design. The inner parts of the foldable roofs could be solar panels, that can collect solar energy when folded out. Some part can still be a repair area for the several exploration vehicles deployed. 2.) Commando / LCVP (Landing Craft) for Planetary Warfare This would not need much modifications from the original Scarab module, if safe landing is possible. If its in a warzone, the Crucible would need stronger shields, so it can get to the warzone without getting destroyed. If this is even to dangerous, some could go a more paratrooper method. Detach the Scarab when in orbit, and then make a HALO approach to the surface.. Fast descent, late deceleration with thrusters.. Then landing craft deployment of the vehicles and soldiers.. Some turrets on the Scarab could give some support for the soldiers.. It will be the base station.. The thrusters of this warfare scarab module, altough very simple, later can get the scarab into orbit again to dock again with the Crucible. 3.) Commando for Space Warfare - LCVP Scarab "Codename Barnacle" The Scarab is filled with modified landing pods who are shot outside the front of the ship. With high speed they are shot towards big space battlecruisers. With hundreds of those pods who are called barnacle, the weapons of the big ships are somewhat overwhelmed because they are used to a few dozen bigger objects, not hundreds of tiny ones. The collision detection of those modules sense if they approach the starship they were shot to and attach to the hull of the ship. A laser in the inner ring of the attachment module then does its works and slowly lasers trough the ship hull, once trough, the soldiers go inside. Alternatively the projects codename "Barnacle" and "Kamikaze" are used in unison and instead of a soldier there are explosives inside. Additional modified, so called "rogue repair drones" are deployed to "derepair" the enemy ships by detaching the weapon modules, shield systems and so on. 4.) Commando for Space Warfare - Scarab "Codename Quantum Kamikaze" After scouts found the big starship, the Scarab with the Quantum Kamikaze module starts its Quantum Jump towards the position. In the moment milliseconds before exiting the quantum jump, the Scarab Module is detached and the Thrusters of the Crucible go to full reverse.. The momentum propels the Kamikaze Scarab towards the battle ship and explodes in a big or many little explosions. Possibilties are endless and far more exciting that the stylish Galaxy model.
I sincerely hope this channel gets the support and viewership it deserves. This work is absolutely top notch. The Star Citizen player base is better for its existence.
I agree. This is a substantive video for a ship that is in concept only. I appreciate the thoughts you have presented and looking forward to this showing up in my hangar "soon".
Wow, you made me want a Crucible. I already have a Vulcan but now that you explained the repair gameplay loop I think this might, for personal reasons, be my ultimate ship (aircraft mechanic for 31 years, USMC/USAF). Besides, a crucible with a swarm of Furies would be quite the sight to behold.
I bought this when released at concept, late 2015. Want to know how much work, CIG has put into it, some eight years later? Zero work has been done; that's how much. When is it planned to be finished? There is no plan, or even a stated goal to even start work on it, much less finish it. Why? It relies on a repair game feature set, that will never be implemented (in it's entirety), because it's too CPU intensive and computer resource hungry. The Crucible will never be completed. If it takes this long to not even start working on it, it WILL NEVER BE FINISHED, BECAUSE IT'S JUST NOT POSSIBLE. If they knew how, I would have been flying my Crucible in 2017-8 (at worst). It's a scam guys and this reviewer said he would give an honest review; lol. So much for that crap statement! Edit: Several years after Concept release, some pathetic work was actually attempted on the Crucible, but years after that, the work was stated (by CIG) to be scrapped. So net development is zero.
@@darthschumy There are over 150 flyable ships in the game with 37 still in concept, That is over 75% of the scams you are talking about already in the game. What did CIG do to you to damage you so badly? Go play Fortnite, RUST, or Elite Dangerous, they are more your type of games. Leave us, "citizens", alone.
I had pledged the Vulcan and a couple years back at citizencon upgraded my Vulcan to a crucible, cannot wait for this ship to come out. For sure we will see it before pyro (so 4.0)
This is by far the best ship review channel out there. The detailed 3D Models and visuals, as well as the concept redesigns are an amazing way to explain the ship building process to newer players. Thanks for what you do guys o7
Whenever I see these in concept utility designs for tugboats, repair vehicles like the crucible, mobile refinery ships, etc. it makes me swell with pride and I can hardly wait to see what the verse will become the longer it bakes. The sheer scope of some of the non-com ships and the ideas of a wholly or largely driven player economy with NPC sideliners, relying on the honesty of strangers in the void to not rip you off for fuel, or fighting the pressure they apply to you to spend just a few UEC more while you're desperate for repairs when there's not a station so readily on the horizon in the frontier systems. This is the experience I always wanted from SC- and we've all waited a long time for it, don't get me wrong. Whenever we see more of this work come to fruition the more obvious it is to me just how intensive this labour of love is for CIG, but we must never forget the patience and willing and fiery passion of the player base. A wonderful video, softly narrated and enjoyed over an ice cold drink on an otherwise muggy evening. Readily earned my sub, and look forward to more in future.
Nicely timed video - really appreciate the attention to detail! I just CCU'd to a Crucible and your video makes me all that more confident I did the right thing. Anvil is my favourite manufacturer :)
I can easily imagine an Org that operates this ship, loading it up repair bay with Marai Furys, flying out to a mission site, launching the fighters to patrol as they do their work. Potentially having a reclamer and a couple vultures to strip downed pirate vessels for materials, a caterpillar set up as a refinery/factory to make/refurbish components from salvaged ships.
One of the ships I was most happy to acquire, I had already acquired the Vulcan. I was also thinking with me going down the salvage route as well technically it could do salvage as well as it will have the tool set to remove parts from ships. You could salvage a few ships taking off weapons with the long arms and use the scarab to store any components you remove or if you are salvaging smaller vessels you could maybe scoop them up and work on them in the scarab in your own time and move the ship somewhere safe like a base or closer to a safe location. I really liked your breakdown of the Crucible and what it could look like with a new design to reflect the current Anvil design language. If it does increase in size I will be thrilled.
Outstanding. Very well thought out and executed. The definitive Crucible overview! I love that you brought in the early concept design sketches and shared your thoughts on where things are going. Beautiful visuals of the Crucible and it’s functions. Thank you for bringing this to life for me. It has been a long wait from concept announcement to now.
Beautifully done Grim, as always, this is one of my most anticipated ships and I absolutely love your rendition of how it can meet the Anvil design aesthetic as it has evolved with time. I hope some members of CIG take a look at your work as well. Thank you for all the time and effort!
Grim, your idea of using multiple scarabs to support a ground fleet is a fantastic idea. Besides racing, I can see planet based industrial operations such as farming making use of that capability as well. Well done! o7!
considering CIG already said they were axing the freelancer's fully rotating engines, which were shown in a promotional CG video. Expect them to also be axed for the crucible: and just have forward and vtol rotation. This ship has a future, we wish it could be released in production soon because nothing prevents in the current game a real repair gameplay to benefit during a Xenothreat event, we should not wait for Pyro to see it released.... And it should be released even before the Banu, at the same time as the Kraken and the Idris... Very nice presentation, clear and well documented, congratulations for this expert achievement 🤓!
This ship has no future because in it's past eight years, since release, zero actual work has been completed. Yep zero, in a staggering eight years, after taking everyone's huge payment. There's a word for that: scam! There is no plan date to start work on it either. The significance of that should tell you one simple fact: they don't know how to do it and/or it's not possible to complete. If they could actually build it, like say the small fighters they finish all the time, then not only would it have a future, it would also already have a past. We'd both be flying it already, but instead we have eight years where they've done nothing with no plans to start. How long do you need to realize you've been scammed? lol
Man if it can repair size 3 in the Scarab it would be able to basically repair all fighters using the Scarab. Which feels fitting. But that would be a big deal. I bet the repair arms can repair much faster than the drones, given what you mention about the limited amount of material that a repair drone can likely carry, and it looks to me like the repair arms are 'bigger' than the repair bits of a repair drone, but we'll see. I was always interested in this ship, but this video really made me consider its potential.
I still kind of wonder where the Crucible really fits in. I guess for dedicated larger fleets some day it could take care of larger vessel repair, but for smaller things I feel like rearm/resupply ships are going to be the go-to options.
I am enjoying each of the Shipyard videos. The Crucible definitely looks like end game for its loop. I’m not huge on medical gameplay, but given the recent Endeavor video and the theme of fixing things, a video on the Apollos which fix people would be cool.
Given the 2024 Pioneer re-concept to fully use drones, I see the same thing happening to this; CIG scrapping the scarab & repair arms and just getting a myriad of drones that can repair everything type of vehicle. By doing this, the ship would not have to triple in size to accommodate an internal hangar and could keep its general original concept shape. It will deff need a way to easily and quickly receive repair materials from cargo ships, particularly for larger repair jobs.
Its scarab module does need to grow in size. The original concept does not have any room for small landing mistakes (unless there is a tractor beam for ships with damaged RCS thrusters) and with a low roof, very claustrophobic feeling indeed. Maybe I'm just too spoiled with massive Star Wars hangar bays on capital ships, but come on... We're in space. Why so are ships that houses ships and other vehicles so cramped.
Now I really understood all the mods that Crucible has and how it works. I always think it would have variants to understand that. Really nice content🙌🏿
I actually went and bought a Crucible CCU this Invictus cause I really like its gameplay and role. It's like Salvage but reversed, and it can be automated with drones. I also like the Bridge which gives almost 180 degree view from it
Live the Crucible, Ive had ine sat in my hanger for years, never considered melting. Saw this first on @DG360 & had to hop ove to watch again & give you a like. 😃👍
I really like the idea of this channel. It’s cool to see you guys do deep dives on some of my favorite chips like the Kraken in this one the crucible. Plus the website is awesome!
Damn. Seriously made me consider investing in a CCU to the Crucible from my Vulcan. I'm wary of overly-large ships but it's hard to question the utility the Crucible might bring.
I wonder if, when released, the Crucible will have some modularity to its repair bay. Similar to the Endeavor, it would be awesome if the owner could swap the repair bay for a medical wing or something similar.
You're in dreamland; lol. When dreaming, I guess dream big, because it won't change the fact you'll never see this ship completed. Eight years later and they still haven't started. They don't even have a planned start date. Of course: it doesn't hurt to wish, that it could not only be a hospital, but also capable of doing salvage, refueling, towing, mining and being a mega-carrier, attack fighter that wins on the race track. So dream big Matt, because there's no limit with delusion!
The repair game loop I can see be tied the with current salvaging loop because I can see the crucible working along side a vulture picking up material or buying material from a reclaimer. Since I love salvaging I would love to work with repair ship captains and selling my goods to them rather than a faceless entity
I didn't realize the potential of this ship until I watched some simple repair of a Polaris on wicked wookies channel, that was enough to make me start filling out a ccu chain.
The Crucible has a humpf to it that could make it if done properly a great experience, i'd like to see a more profound repair than just beaming a laser on a hull to repair it for once.
I could see the Crucible being used a lot in races as sort of a mobile pit crew. I just hope the material restocking doesn't just add a bunch of frustration from having to constantly be getting new materials to be usable.
Awesome video bud, really well put together. This is one of my favourite ships and while I love how it looks atm, I look forward very much to seeing it redone wit all the new techniques that cig have learned along the way. I really hope they decide to at least try to implement the lattice work dry dock mode where it links up with other Crucibles, iirc they possibly went back on that though. It would be amazing to see you do a breakdown on the Pioneer and maybe some stuff on base building and the rastar tool, there is a lot of scattered info out there which a lot of people missed or dont even realise exists.
I can't believe I haven't seen your content! As an aspiring ingame engineer/mechanic, this overview of what we know & what could be for the Crucible was fascinating! If I could suggest a future vessel to review, it would be the Pegasus Escort Carrier. Particularly with the introduction of the Mirai Fury, there is a renewed interest in what true carrier vessels exist. Considering how old the vessel is, I would love your perspective of where its at now, and where it could go!
I like this ship alot from the first concept. Maybe one time i one such a techical mutytool in space. I really like the idea and have many ideas to it too, to make it more interesting in many ways. Thx for the vid. :)
Do you work for CIG? If not you need to. that was one heck of a presentation of the Crucible. This ship is one that I wanted from the get go. I hope that they make it the true work horse they sold it to be. Great job and keep up the great work.
Amazing video again! I just secured my Crucible at ILW today! I kinda hope it's growing in size a bit so we can handle more types of ships in the scarab later. It's a very cool and promising concept and I can't wait to start using it in the verse. We'll probably get the Vulcan before the Crusible simply because it's easier to make, but I have that too so that's okay. As for a future video, I would love to see a video on the CNOU Pioneer, the ultimate ship for large orgs in my opinion!
With the "final technical hurdle" for ship modules being overcome during Hull-C production and drones hopefully getting added then it's looking good for the Crucible in about three more years. Be great to have this for Pyro (and the Liberator) but my poor heart can only take so much.
Crucible seems like a very difficult ship to want to be involved in. I find fighters will certainly need repair but I am more interested how it can repair capital ships. Intrigued.
Very well done video and thank you very much for this information since I pledge for the ship and have it in my hanger in my account and I am looking forward to using it someday in the verse.
As a support player, this is definitely one of the ships I want to get down the line. I can't wait for it to be available ingame! ♡ And great job on the renders and detailed description!
I am curious to see if some of the reconcepting for the crucible brings in some form of crafting now that we know a little more about that system. Either way, im happy i have a ccu to one. It will likely be very helpful in many ways.
got me drooling again ;-P . What are the blockers for releasing the crucible? Docking is in, salvage (and therefore almost repair), components (pipes, rearming..)...? Maybe we will see the crucible in the Citizencon 2024.

Glad to have you part of the Starjump Community!

I like this ship alot from the first concept.
Maybe one time i one such a techical mutytool in space.
I really like the idea and have many ideas to it too, to make it more interesting in many ways.
Thx for the vid. :)
Super excited for the Crucible, that observation deck is so neat
Imagine parking this beast in an asteroid field for covert repairs.
Finally, something that makes me want to focus on engineering.
o7 starjump crew, thank you for the modules and hard work you all put in
Do you work for CIG? If not you need to. that was one heck of a presentation of the Crucible. This ship is one that I wanted from the get go. I hope that they make it the true work horse they sold it to be. Great job and keep up the great work.
haha i dont work for CIG, but i do love the game and have high hopes for its future
Anvil Crucible: the ultimate support ship for fleets.
Can you imagine repairing a Javelin with this?
the game play loop of this ship is attractive to a lot of players
The Crucible is what every org needs in their arsenal
When the Crucible comes out it'll probably be my favorite ship
Thank you for another awesome video, I really enjoy these discussions.
I cant wait for my yearly Invictus spending spree
Great work bud! Just found your channel. exactly the content i'm looking for! Can't wait to get my hands on one of these
Glad to have you part of the Community! -GRim
I recently just finished my cc chain to this ship, I can't wait to see it start showing up in active development
This is one of the ships that I'm quite tempted by. And an Atlas to move around the ship would be nice.
With the "final technical hurdle" for ship modules being overcome during Hull-C production and drones hopefully getting added then it's looking good for the Crucible in about three more years.
Be great to have this for Pyro (and the Liberator) but my poor heart can only take so much.
I hope a size 3 hanger for the crucible, allows for more options for repair.
Anvil never disappoints with industrial ships
one of my favorite ship! i just can't wait to have it in game. Thanks for the video O7
Crucible seems like a very difficult ship to want to be involved in. I find fighters will certainly need repair but I am more interested how it can repair capital ships. Intrigued.
Top notch content as always! Excited for Invictus this year!
I've got my ccu secured!! Thanks for all you do!
The Crucible is a true game-changer for fleet repair!
Saw this a while back. Invictus Invictus
Thanks a lot. This video confirmed that the Crucible is a must in my fleet.
For some reason without the hanger part it reminds me of a. Giant Japanese spider crab with his long skinny arms to pick up stuff
The Crucible is one of those ships i always think about getting, but usually gets replaced by something like the Reclaimer
You know what's cooler than the Guardian? The Retribution :3
I am curious to see if some of the reconcepting for the crucible brings in some form of crafting now that we know a little more about that system. Either way, im happy i have a ccu to one. It will likely be very helpful in many ways.
I'm loving this video series. Keep up the great work.
I would love the amazing Invictus poster for the Polaris!
got me drooling again ;-P . What are the blockers for releasing the crucible? Docking is in, salvage (and therefore almost repair), components (pipes, rearming..)...? Maybe we will see the crucible in the Citizencon 2024.
If they made this thing big enough to hold a prospector, my heart would be satisfied.
