DISCLOSURE: I got the Orange with a discount from the local distributor
Peavey just sitting there during the clean demo like “its all fun and games now, wait until we cut the gain on”
Lol!
Lol...Best Comment Award...
100%
So true 😂
Aaaand Peavey earned the 2nd place after the Orange. 👍
I’ll always love rectifiers... but that Rockerverb sounds killer!!
Absolutely!!! ☯️
Me too...still have one but I am seriously considering a Rockerverb! They sound fantastic
First may I say the talent this guy has is outrageous. His riffs are just so creative. Great player. In this demo I really loved the Rockerverb overall. Best cleans to my ears and it shined brighter until the heavy clips then I have to give the edge to the Peavey there, but the Orange held its own.
I came for the JVM and fell in love for the Rockerverb. Awesome!
The rockerverb just sings even though I still prefer the JVm for my style.
Man, that Rockerverb clean tone was stunning. A clean channel so good you'd never know it was on a high gain amp.
Marshall JVM or Orange Rockerverb for me. Both were great.
Every-time the Marshall left me feeling like it was missing something compared to the Orange Rockerverb mk111!
So, definitely the Orange for me! Clarity with the perfect amount of saturation! ☯️
Orange kills em all for cleans, and stands toe to toe with them for high gain. Orange ftw baby. That Peavey with the active pickups doe...
I love the aggressive in your face mid range of a Marshall.
The Marshall gave the best stank face
I have the JVM and love it, but that Orange Rockerverb impressed me a lot, especially the clean sound. On the other hand, the Mesa somehow disappointed me
same boat here, but i think the peavey really fell short
Mesa amps live in the sweet spot are unlike anything else. Absolute beasts. The dynamics/feel of the sound are something you just can't capture with a mic. I own one and I had a Peavey 6505+. I didn't care for the Peavey.
@@mattltech same
Agree. The distortion sounds too fuzzy for lack of better words for me on this demo.
@@ruanddu I am kinda digging that Orange though. Never owned one, but might.
This is such a great shootout! You definitely have a knack for these amp comparisons, don't ever stop!
What an excellent video. No bullshit. Just straight up tones. Subbed.
Damn, as always another amazing video. Thanks for putting so much work into filming, writing, reamping, recording, editing, mixing. Your riffs and the awesome A/B comparisons are so helpful.
Dude, that's exactly the video I was waiting for! I really love to hear all four amps through the same IR, so I could really hear the difference. Your content is simply great, so I hope you keep on going :)
Thank you!
That Rockerverb dude!!!! I’m impress!!! What a great video, as usual.
What a great shoutout!!! I had the JVM for several years now and I never needed something else since:)
These videos just consistently prove that like 90% of amp tone is actually the cab/IR lol.
Not agree. Orange is interesting, Marshall, not enough good, Mesa incredible and 6505 synthethic of all.
Lord I agree with you 100%.
It's true. Kohlekeller studios proved that beyond any shadow of a doubt.
These videos just consistently prove that no one is right or wrong and amp tone is all about personal preference.
100% agree. the IR environment creates the audio equivalent of regression to the mean, i.e., emphasizes similarities more than differences. Need real cabs for this to truly reflect the amps. That said, Great video!!
I think the 'surprise' was how well certain amps performed above (my) expectation but fear that is the result of the regression to mean process described above. For me, biggest surprise was how well the 50 watt Orange performed. Simply excellent over all 4 scenarios. Next biggest surprise was 410H 'chug' in scenario 4.
As expected, Dual Rec's presence / 'in yer face thing' nailed the first 3 scenarios even with the IR normalization.
Not expected was Rec in scenario #4. (Does that dual Rec switch to solid state in Ch #3?) Think Ch 4 on the Roadster would have been the more honest comparison. Those Boogies are real beasts.
I love my JVM410h so much!!!!
dude, I want a Rockerverb now. holy smokes
I get that!
They're all fantastic to be honest. But the mids of the Orange have an extra fatness and warmth that makes it the winner in my ears.
I LOVE the JVM and a 6505 is one of the most fun amps to play, ever - the Mesa is chunky but needs a boost to get tightness and erase the fizz - but I have to admit the Rockerverb blows them out of the water.
The way the Orange goes from dirty to crunch to lead with a single gain knob is testament of good design.
There's no problem with mud or cutting through either. Any other amp here is compromised save for the Orange. It does it all without any downsides.
Agreed, all great amps.
Both the Marshall JVM and the Orange Rockerverb were the best imo. Loved the midrange punch of the Marshall and the Orange aced it in both the clean and dirty tones.
Marshall's a great for pushing midrange which at the end of the day is what projects best for guitar to hit the audience. I find they are easy to mix within a metal band.
i hated the marshall. i like the orange midrange better. i liked the mesa the most though
@@cloroxbleach118 see i hated the mesa the most it was too harsh and too much gain, i liked the warmth and smoothness of the marshall the most, the peavey and the orange were very similar to each other i liked them both too, just goes to show, different strokes for different folks!
I really appreciate your reviews. You go through all kinds of sounds where most people wouldn't especially when comparing amps. Much appreciated!!!!
I like how you explained everything beforehand. It gives me a better idea of what I'm hearing. Either way, you always makes great videos.
Your comparison videos are always awesome. That clean riffage was really beautiful also. Thumbs way up! As a diehard Mesa user, I was impressed by all the other non-Mesa amps for sure.
Great video! The way you did the back to back comparisons were top notch. Subscribed!
I love my Rockerverb 100 MK3. Such a versatile amp.
The attenuator is gold
after checking this channel out more thoroughly over the past few months, I want that Orange head.
I don't regret paying nearly 2200 for mine, it's tone is just incredible.
I never realized the Rockerverb had such a chimey and enjoyable clean tone. I thought the Marshall was thin sounding on all settings. I can't stand playing through a Recto. I have owned multiple Recto heads and hated every one. The 5150 would be my go to for high gain. Although I actually prefer the more upper mid-range voiced 5150 II.
Again, you do the best amp comparison vids out there. Excellent work.
I felt The JVM held its own really well against the Mesa and the Peavey at high gain
It does. I dont even need a boost petal for it to push the gain.
Amazing comparison video. Perfect layout and showcase riffs. I am partial to a perfectly dialed in rectifier but the orange actually blew me away.. to my ears it has similar characteristics but less fizzy, sounded awesome clean and overdriven.
JVM with the baritone has so much mid range grind i love it.
I can't be the only one that thought the Rockerverb & JVM410H were the heaviest and rawest sounding. British amps stay on top.
What I learned from this video:
Rockerverb and JVM are still the greatest guitar amplifiers ever created (with JVM taking the biscuit for me personally).
Dual Rectifier still fucking sucks w/out boost or OD.
6505 is still the champion of "that modern metal tone" (although I still much prefer the JVM overall for high gain) AND has a surprisingly not-shit clean sound!
Awesome stuff 😁
Hi mate…Ive been a long time subscriber and viewer of your channel yet this is my first comment on any of your videos. I just wanted to say how much I appreciate all of the hard work you put into your videos. You obviously take great pride and attention to detail doing your comparisons. Truly I have repeatedly watched many of your videos but none more than this one. All I can say is thanks for sharing your amazing talent, enthusiasm and time with us out there in UA-cam land…cheers from Australia
Thanks, that means a lot!
Awesome riffs! I’ve always been a Mesa fan but I have to admit the Orange won this round overall, with the peavey (being a one trick pony) winning in the high gain stakes. You really need to get yourself a multi-watt though, I’ve had both and the multi-watt is less mushy and a bit more bold. Definitely an improvement.
I LOVE my dual for how it sounds but I also have a mini Recto, that does the multi-watt sound. Awesome amps!
Wow this was amazing. I have to say I think you did a great job making all of the amps sound terrific. Were any of the heavy rock/metal bits boosted with anything?
The orange articulates all the notes even on the heavy gain sections. I believe it to be the best all around and the most pleasing tonally. Second is the Marshall.
Thank you! Very detailed comparison. I used the whole range of sounds from clean to very heavy. It's good that you still have many amplifiers that can be compared a similar way)))
Just got the rockerverb mkiii 50 2x12 combo, best amp I've ever played the attenuator is great 25w mode is plenty for most gigs. Throw your pedals away.Extremely well built amp 💪
The Rockerverb has been one of my dream amps ever since I found a kemper profile of it (which has become my go to lead tone). But I'm surprised by just how much I preferred it in every category except for metal. These are all killer amps and yet the Rockerverb blows them out of the water for the most part imo.
I disagree withe the metal. I think it sounded different to be sure. And that is actually a great thing. I disliked the Marshall the most for pretty much all because of the upper mid voicing. Peavey is dial to taste.
@@tobins6800 I like it for some types of metal! Just didn't prefer the metal tones for this particular shootout
@@tobins6800 what you described about Marshall is correct and is the principal reason is the best amp since in a band situation it gets heard.
Best comparison on UA-cam I've ever seen! Great!🔥🔥🤘🤘
Rockerverb for me. Starting to think I should’ve bought one of those instead of a triple rectifier
Very well put together video! This confirms my recent decision to by an Orange amp. It sounds amazing.
Thanks for all the work putting this together
In this demo the Rockerverb and the 6505 sound the best to my ears. The mesa sounds like a can of bees
Dual Recs sound like that. It is so yesterday's sound with the scooped mids. Horrible for leads.
@@andermarg It's so yesterday's way of saying "it's so yesterday's."
@@LightCyrus it's so yesterday's thing to be gay
@@gustanoid lol
Wow man, those rockerverb cleans sound so balanced on their own and are perfect in a mix.
I had no idea!
Thanks for the great video!
That was freaking epic!! Hell yes dude!! All of them had unique quality’s but for me I would say upon till the final baritone mix I would have said orange or Marshall but then at the end all of them are needed
Always the right ingredients in your vids. Thankyou! 🤘
Nothing to say except this was awesome. You have the best and more professional comparatives between amplifiers. Also I liked a lot that you used as different IR's as the same IR to show the tone variations.
Maybe I'd like you make the same kind of videos, with the same order and quality, but now with amps sims. Currently, many people every time are using VST's instead of real amps to produce music in home studios, which is my case, because is a lot cheaper than the analog gear.
Cheers from Chile.
I’m normally all about the gain and the grind but hot damn that clean intro is beautiful. Cheers!
What an awesome , well done shootout ! Not to offend anyone , but the mesa sounds so much like a Boss Metal Zone pedal . Maybe not a bad thing ? Maybe thats the tone it was built for ? Orange and Marshall , then Peavey for me . All great amps , each with their own with awesome tones . The maestro here knows how to get the best out of each . Epic vid , bro .
I really enjoy your riffs in all your videos!
Wow, thanks for this video, I like every amp, depending on the riff played. To me, the rockerverb and 6505 seem to be the two most versatile and full sounding most of the time . I was hoping the rectifier to shine a bit more.
Really outstanding video! Thanks for this! 🙏
Excellent video, especially the A/B comparisons with and without impulse. Next time please let us hear the exact same riff for each amp for the quick change comparisons. Thanks a lot.
22:25 what a riff 😗❤❤❤
Monster riff
What a great comparison... I never paid much attention to Orange until now!
As always, a professional job well done!👨🎓👨⚕️
These new comparison songs are genius!! Sound nice and good for comparison. Funny I thought I will love Dual Recitifier more, but the JVM410H sounds great in your examples.
Great video, I'd love to hear all 4 amps through the same cab IR for a more accurate comparison in the future! Anyway, I'd pick ( and already did) mesa dr any day of the week, it just sounds huge and unique, so balanced it's ridiculous.
The Orange had the most “I can’t be denied” thing. Great driven clean sound and shimmery. The JVM is just sick with nastiness and slur. The Recto thumps. The Peavey snarled, and its gain structure is filthy. Whatever amp is the greasiest is the one I choose, and that’s the Marshall.
It was a pleasure to watch this. Killer riffs.. Orange sounds very open and balanced, especially cleans tones. Marshall has more mid range and more bite compared to orange. Dual rectifier has scoped mids and peavey sounds darker overall. Thanks for making these videos.
Very good comparison mate!!
I'm in love with the rockerverb clean tone!
this video is worth millions of views, great playing and tones.
Great video! Love how easy to you made the differences to spot. I have a modded rockerverb mk2 that I love, but all three of the others sounded killer. I liked the Marshall a lot for the bluesy rock bit, but the Dual Rec and the Peavey killed the high gain clips. Makes me want an American voiced amp lol.
That Mkiii is stunning clean. I'm sure th drive sounds have their uses...
but man, the cleans.
Excellent job, thanks you ! I"m impressed by the Rockerverb.
One cannot just beat the Orange or Marshall at clean tones... they are just magical.
The winner on this comparison was the excellent playing/recording. I'd take any of these amps, but to my surprise, the Rockerverb proved to be the most versatile and sounded best in a mix.
I was mainly watching for the Marshall but now instead I want that Rockerverb!
That Dual Rec had surprisingly nice and useable cleans!
The rockerverb is my favorite but I was really surprised by how great the Peavey sounded on the bluesy crunch setting!
Me too, was expecting it to sound worse with those settings
Main takeaways from this - the Rockerverb is an incredibly versatile amp, and the 6505 loves EMG's.
I agree, also I think Rockerverb has the nicest clean tone out of all of them. Personally I love the 6505 because it has a sharp bright bite tone to it. However unlike the Rockerverb, that is the only thing 6505 can do sadly.
I liked the orange best for the clean and lower gains, 6505 for the heavy drop tune stuff, and I'm a 5150 iii guy
Nice demo. I love my Orange 50 MKIII, I have changed all the China tubes to rare vintage 1949 -50 -60 tubes 🤘
Guitar nerds here on UA-cam know about Orange, but I'm always surprised at how many guitar players I meet out in the real world don't really get them. I bought a Mesa 4x12 cab from a guy the other day and we talked about gear for a minute, I told him I sold my 5150 to get a great deal on an Orange Rockerverb Mk 3 and he thought I was crazy, he was under the impression that Orange amps can't really do metal. Crazy, but hey, more for me. You should try to get your hands on a Hughes and Kettner Triamp..
Great video. Did you changed something in your setup? For the first time ever all the amps sounded vastly different.
I own 2 of the three and have played all three. They're all excellent. I have modded the JVM I own, but, I have to say..the green clean on that amp is just so fantastic. So much so I really don't even use the other modes, just clean green and OD2 orange. It fits me perfectly, cleans up nicely, and sounds amazing against even my Friedman and other boutique amps, even if it has all these other features I'll never use.
AMAZING! Just amazing...so proud of JVM! I have one and it sounds great! Did u use any noise on it? Hugs from Brasil!
Thumps up for the Rockerverb. Thanks for the video, good job
They all performed well for the crunch test. Preferred the orange and mesa for clean tones. And the orange absolutely killed in the high gain test; that focused bottom end is so damn nice.
The order of the clean sounds goes from best to worst. Darker sounding high gain amps are where it’s at for having both a great clean & distortion channel.
It seemed as if the 5150 had the High Gain input being used. That actually adds another leg of the preamp tube for distortion. The Normal Gain is probably better for getting ultimately clean on the 5150. That being said, its not my go to clean amp. :)
Ugh that marshall sounds amazing overall. I think i like the clean tone of the orange more but damn the clean on that is sick too. Gotta get me one
excellent job as usual!
If I can play Death metal : I choice Mesa Dual;
If I can play Hard rock 70's: I choice Rockreverb from Orange;
If I can play heavy metal tigth like Iced earth or Symphony X, I choice Peavy.
But, if I can play everyone and Motohead, I choice JVM....heheheh
The chug of rectifier is incredible
For the past couple of days I've been falling in love with JVM.
Great way to compare amps. Rockerverb and the Rectifier sound great clean: the Marshall brittle, the Peavy cheap and flat.
Trying to choose, so much appreciate the video.
All sound awesome. I like them all for different reasons.
Very good demo man!
6505 is just such a gain monster. Very nice.
perfect Comparison ,well done man WELLLLLLLL DOOOONE 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Loving the tone on the mesa. The low end flub and high end fizz earns a lot of haters, which is an added bonus. The others sound more aggressive and tight, but are also fatiguing to the ear. The smooth, scooped mesa tone is great for slow low ch00ggz.
Your clean playing and chord structure are similar to Yvette Young. Love it !!!!
Awesome video! The orange sounded the least compressed to me and the marshall sounded the most compressed. I think that's why for a low to mid output passive pickup guitar I'd go marshall or mesa, with active pickups the orange and peavey really shined. The orange and marshall also really benefited from their onboard reverb during the clean sections
my favorites are 410h and Rockerverb. Great comparison. Why can you play so awesome licks???
Orange for the win IMO.
Just kills it in every category.
Great shootout.
I really love the cleans on the orange, and the Marshall really surprise me on high gain, peavey and Mesa great as always on hg.
The baritone riffing is amazing
