"That distinct sound" is the sound we Orange fans love. I used to have gobs of pedals trying to make other amps *sound* like a gainy Orange. Now, I don't use any drive, crunch, fuzz pedals. I have some time based pedals for the cleaner tones. Chorus, Flanger, etc.
Orange makes some of the best solid states (Orange Crush) out there. I've been extremely pleased with my SparkAmp. I'm interested in the H&K Black Spirit, and the Engle Ironball 25.
The symbols on the panel were partly done for the European market, which is where the amps first caught in. Having symbols in lieu of text meant they didn't have to translate everything for every country. Once you learn 'em, they make a lot of sense. I switched to Orange a few years ago. No looking back.
I have an 🍊, and I use it about as clean as it gets, and like you said, very serviceable. I also love the edge of breakup blues tones it gets. Good stuff 👌
I have a orange micro terror, and it's definitely has a distorted tone that no other brand has, and for a tiny hybrid tube/solid state practice amp....it's bloody loud! And handles pedal really well.
@Far Stox Have you tried the micro dark? The EQ is wayyyy more versatile, and the built in fx loop means pedals or even 4 cabling makes this version a huge improvement. Hope that helps. Cheers!
Hell yeah brother. That distortion tone riff was tight and just sick! Many Mastodon albums were recorded with an Orange amp. That should be all you need to know
they didn't use oranges for any of the classic albums we all know from Remission up to CTS. it's a relatively recent development that Brent started touring with their amp heads and not just using them if they were offered as backline. Although Brent has used their cabinets for a good while.
@@valuedhumanoid6574 i did forget about the studio doccumetary. you are right about that but the majority of that album was tracked with their Marshall JMPs and I believe a Diezel.
For the longest time I thought I wanted a Mesa tone but the more started to play and i really feel in love with Orange. It's perfect for my style of playing Doom/Stoner/Desert metal vibe 🏜
I just picked up an RT 35 solid state practise amp; after using a Fender modelling amp, and i am extremely pleased with its sounds and sonic personality.
Good review bro and good choice of guitars for it. You played exactly what I wanted to hear through both channels. I’ll have to check the 2nd hand market down here for one.
I had the Rockerverb 50 in the 2X12 combo in the early 2000's. Much heavier than the head alone. It looked lonely so I bought the oversized Orange 2X12 cab as well. Looked great at home in the study (4X12 in total) but I dreaded the thought of ever having to take it anywhere due to the weight. I recall really liking both the clean and dirty channels. Eventually I traded the rig for something different. Years later (about a year ago) I was looking at small compact amps and found the Orange Rocker 15. Only volume on the clean channel but 3 band EQ on the drive side. No Reverb but these days I use pedalboards to sculpt my sound and the amp has an effects loop. It's very portable for little garage jams with friends. Combined with a couple of other portable amps that I have it really works well in Wet/Dry or Wet/Dry/Wet amp setups. I had missed the old Rockerverb 50 so this has satisfied my Orange craving and saved my aging back.
The Rockerverb 50 MK2 has a beautiful clean crisp tone on the clean channel and the usual mild to filthy tones on the dirt channel, a great all-around combo amp with 2x Celestion V30's.
So funny...as the video began and you mentioned items that you would never buy, I asked myself what guitar I would never consider buying and the first one that came to mind was a Jazzmaster!
If you buy new each amp comes with a pamphlet about what the hieroglyphs mean. Don’t let your excuse for not buying something be because you can’t read.
That is a beast...I never knew that about that amp...thanks for this one...I've tried out Orange before a long time back, but don't remember being impressed...maybe not all Oranges are the same. or I justdidn't know how to tweak it right (prob the latter is really the case)...that model is most awesome! Thanks for covering this one.
I have the MK3 version of this amp (the one with the built in attenuator). Just a massive kick ass beast - I use a clean boost into the amp and an EQ, that’s it. No need for drive pedals at all. The MK3 version has a better clean sound IMO than the MK2 in this demo but, other than that, it’s just a simple brute that is all tone!!!
I got the Rocker 32. The clean, single vol chanel sounds sooooo sweet. The best natural guitar tone. Really brings to light each guitars sound. The distortion is everything else that is awesome.
They do come in black as well, which is a bit less in your face. But honestly, I love teh fact that it isn't like everything else. The hieroglyphics are goofy tho. Love the sound of the Rockerverb, but also love that they managed to get as close to it as they did w/the Super Crush 100. When I have a bigger place (no room to keep my gear setup w/the kids and such) definitely getting something new. Have an Orange bass amp that also sounds great
I think the Goat Dude is actually holding a flute….😉😁 I’ve got an Orange Crush 12, love it, sounds great, and looks totally Psychedelic with my Surf Green Tele!
Bass clef, treble clef, spring verb and speaker for volume.. Not really much to expect a musician to figure out. LOVE my or100, but man is it a beast to carry. Thanks for the vid! Orange's premium line of amps are stellar. I had a couple of their solid state and made in china amps. Not too shabby, but the overbuilt Engl models are top shelf.
The RVs are pretty dark amps within the Orange Catalog. Models like the AD30 and CS50 achieve much different cleans with more chime, and the crunch character is also different. Once you start exploring the different models, you will find that Orange has a variety of tones to offer.
Hi Darrell, it's all about power, raw power . I have 2 in the studio including a Terror head. I love them. Put them through the Orange 4x12 and it is awesome . It is Jimmy's main favorite. Thank you Darrell
The goat dude is a satyr holding a pan pipe. Though I love the description of "the towel" and the barrel with lettuce. 🙂 I love Orange amps though they can take a while to dial in, especially semi-hollow bodies.
I had absolutely the same mental image of Orange as you had until I came across a video of B.B. King playing one. Damn, that was a very tasty sound! I guess that it all comes down to knowing how to get your best sound out of your gear.
One of my dream amps for sure. Might need to settle for the Super Crush 100, but that's honestly not much of a concession - The SC 100 sounds incredible. I really love the character of Oranges, and I love the versatility.
Sharp move the super crush is jfet which is probably as close to tube sound with solid state as you can get. No bright cap on the volume so great for pedals also it’s designed by the same guy that designed the rockerverb with the intention of making it sound like a rockerverb and he is fussy AF on tone so you know it’s gonna sound good. Have fun now.
I never liked Orange Amps myself until I demoed one at my local Guitar Center. I really wanted to play, but all the amps I frequent (Peavey, BOSS, Line 6, Blackstar, MESA) were being used by other people. The only 2 amps that were available were the Marshall and the Orange; both I've never personally tried. Thought I would like the Marshall, so I tried that one first and didn't much care for it. But when I tried the Orange, MAN, I was blown away. Not by any means my favorite amp, but definitely was not expecting it to sound so great 👍🏽
great info as usual D Man. with the in your face Orange..lol..Just bought a Fender Squier Affinity..Reall y surprised with it..Love it..Will mod it some later but right out of the box with a change of strings and set up it is a player....
I've always thought of this as a grail amp. I have the OR15 which is more than enough for my space. But these amps are just incredible. I think If I ever needed a 2x12 again, I would put this head on it.
I’ve had orange amps for several years now and each one has the orange tone. My go to combo is my rocker32 and then I have a rockerverb half stack, a ad30 sitting on a verticals 2x12, pedal baby, terror amps etc. I love them all and it’s become an addiction. The one thing I like stage wise is people look directly at your amp it’s intriguing to those who haven’t seen one and I’ve had other bands at festivals and bike rallies walk up and wanna play the amps. I’m a blues, and hard rock guy. These amps just shine. Mix one of these with a fender amp in stereo set up and it will blow your mind.
Hey I’m right there with you. All the rich kids played this amp when I was playing shows in highschool. I was always so jealous, even though my gear was perfectly fine. Eventually I actually heard it outside of a band setting and hated it. It took years for me to play one and realize the person who was playing it just had bad taste and set it up weird. Though personally I’d prefer their custom shop amp.
the guy with the horns in the label is Greek God Pan and the towel is a flut like organ he used to play as he was the God of fun in a way..other than that watching your channel is always entertaining and having fun.
Don't forget the Orange solid state amps. I have a Crush 35 RT hooked to a Boss ME-80 and I love it to death. Way better than my Marshall or Crate amps.
Got a Fender Mustang LT25 for a basic practice amp not expecting much for $115 but it blew me away, the volume capability, the presets, the connectivity features, it's such a great deal.
I had never thought I would like the Fender Bassbreaker 30r, being somebody who doesn't use a lot of gain, but now I'm fortunate enough to own this amp and I'm still surprised by its versatility to this day
I have to agree with you about the concept of I would "never" and "will never" purchase an amp with only cryptic symbols I have to try to decipher what they mean instead of clear labels!!! I'm Old (as in being on this great planet for almost 3/4 of a century) and my music style and what I play has zero use for distortion and I am fully aware that is totally against what all the young whippersnappers love as far as reviews. I am sorry to say this amp is still not for me, mainly because everything in this review seems to be about what's great about the distortion, and I'm more into clean and reverb with "Zero" distortion. I think I'll stay with my Roland Jazz Chorus JC-120!!!! Thank you for your review.
Orange amps have an amazing sounding clean channel especially when you add in some reverb and a little bit of delay🤤🤤 it’s a unique sound you will lust after
Sears Silvertone Twin Twelve (mid-'60's) tube amp with great smooth character and sustain. Sold it to a budding young guitarist needing an amp and also to afford a new '68 Fender Twin Reverb. The Fender has served me very well, but I miss the Silvertone. To hear an identical tone, listen to the lead on the song "Mechanical World" by Spirit.
I’m a big fan of Orange Amps. I just ordered the Orange Super Crush 100 in black. I have a small 20RT and a 35RT. I also own a Marshall Origin 20 as well as a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. The 35 watt Orange is my favorite of the lot. I have high hopes for the Super.
I have been an only Orange guy since 2006, I now have a Rockerverb 50 MKiii combo. Sounds incredible but with my flight case it is easily 125 pounds, brutal. Enjoy your Orange, you will never look back!
Surprised. With your style of playing it always seemed a match. Orange offers a "rumble" underlying or in front. Only downside is that you cannot get rid of that. I do think that Jimi would have migrated to these. No "pedal" board just to get to what this amp does best. All Orange amps maintain this sound; regardless of size.
I'm a bassist. I've been using the Orange Bass Terror for years. It's been beaten to hell over the years during gigs and has never let me down. That was enough to win me over. It sounds fantastic and could probably knock down a mountain if at need it to. I have the OR 15 for recording guitars. I get awesome cleans, throw a Klon clone in front and you have a perfect blues amp. Also have the Micro Terror for jamming. Can't go wrong.
Marshall, Mesa, Orange; these are the Gain Gods, and each sounds distinct from the other! Sorry, but an EVH doesn't sound a whole lot different from the Sunn that inspired it -- there IS a difference, but arguably, less of a difference than between the three I mention. Go right ahead and hate. Deal...
I love mine. I was surprised how versatile it is. I find the flavor of overdrive is really different from my other amps, and I really love it for that (and the cleans with a little bite).
LMAO. I avoided Orange amps like the plague due to their looks. I finally tried one and have never looked back. Orange amps are so unique in their sound and have such a good character to the distortion. There is a reason Orange has a cult following.
For me, Orange has always been the first choice if there has been a tech or roadie to carry it for me. Otherwise it tends to stay at home. The clean channel that isn't all that clean is absolutely wonderful for John Lee Hooker style blues! I just add a bit of delay and reverb and that's it.
Don't expect you to know this Darrell, but the goat dude is the Greek God Pan. According to wiki he's the God of rustic music and impromptus, amongst other things.
So I am a ‘bone collector’. I sold some of my human skulls to buy the rockerverb mk3 and Orange cab. I was on the fence on selling irreplaceable pieces of my collection to get this gear. Long story short, I’m not disappointed. This orange set that I have is amazing and versatile. Buy it. You won’t regret your purchase.
The Dark Terror is an all tube amp that retails in the $6-700 range which sounds absolutely glorious. If you want one that is even less money, I recently picked up the Micro Dark and I LOVE it!!! It has RIDICULOUSLY amazing tones and it makes me giggle like a school girl every time my band tells me to turn it down. I highly recommend one! I now leave my 50 watt Marshall Plexi at home, and gig with a head that is the size of a jar of peanut butter. God bless the folks at Orange. Hope that helps. Cheers!
Enjoyed the video. I have the mk1 and love the clean channel, just put something like an EP booster in front and it sounds amazing. And as you say with the gain stages, you can't really get a bad sound. I think Orange EQ's really well. I used to play a Silverface Twin and a Marshall Jubilee and I think this Orange is up there with them. Though that twin was epic.
I like the tone but didn’t want to work a puzzle during a gig trying to figure out what the controls meant. If the amps had simple labeling I would have bought one years ago. When I’m playing I want everything as simple as possible so I don’t have to think too much…
H&K TM36 Special Edition is one that surprised me. Tone controls are unique in that they perform best with subtle movements away from 12 o'clock. Great pedal platform or dirty to distortion tone machine on its own. Speaker soak and DI built in along with many features including midi capable control.
My first Orange was the First Tiny Terror Still have it. I bought the Rocker 15 Terror and it does everything. FX Loop, Bedroom Switch 1 watt and .5 Watts. Both take pedals really well. Like you said in the end it does that one thing really well. They have to compete with DrZ Zwreck, Marshall JCM 2204, Engl FireBall 25. They are used all the time. Oh and one more thing. Another great vid. CW
Let me know if you have ever been surprised by an amp or guitar you thought you'd hate! Enjoy

Awesome video Darrell as always, love hearing you play.
Orange makes some of the best solid states (Orange Crush) out there. I've been extremely pleased with my SparkAmp. I'm interested in the H&K Black Spirit, and the Engle Ironball 25.
Weird to see somehow hating the rockerverb when its literally my dream amp, throwing pennies in jars to someday own one used.
Maybe Darrell will sell it to you at a discount....
I think Orange went out of business for awhile, glad they are back.
@@TinkerToneworks I just remember seeing Orange in the studio video of Crack the Skye.
@@valuedhumanoid6574 i did forget about the studio doccumetary. you are right about that but the majority of that album was tracked with their Marshall JMPs and I believe a Diezel.
That's hieroglyph, Darell. Wait till you find your speaker to match with that Rockerverb. You'll love Orange more.
For the longest time I thought I wanted a Mesa tone but the more started to play and i really feel in love with Orange. It's perfect for my style of playing Doom/Stoner/Desert metal vibe 🏜
I'm a doom guy as well. But with my OR15, if I want gold blues tone, just clean it up and throw a Klon clone in front and there ya go.
I've never owned one, but used that amp at rehearsal studios and it's amazing. Orange makes nothing bad!
I just picked up an RT 35 solid state practise amp; after using a Fender modelling amp, and i am extremely pleased with its sounds and sonic personality.
The Goat dude on the emblem is holding some Pan pipes Darrell you numpty! Not wiping his hands on a towel hahaha! (Really?)
I don't think I've ever seen an Orange demo'd before. Man, I love it.
Have an Orange bass amp that also sounds great
Hey boss! Great video! FYI: The goat dude is the Greek god of the wild and the "towel" he is holding is his flute (pan flute).
I think the Goat Dude is actually holding a flute….😉😁 I’ve got an Orange Crush 12, love it, sounds great, and looks totally Psychedelic with my Surf Green Tele!
You don't think he is wiping his hands on a pleated towel? A flute you say? A goat person with a flute? Hmmm... Maybe.
The "goat dude wiping his hands with a towel" is actually a faun, and that's not a towel rather a pan flute. :)
Always nice to a variety of amps, Orange, Marshall, Vox, Fender, and the rest.
The clean channel is the best part. I feel like the dirty channel is just to be able to mimic that at a lower volume.
Orange rockerverb is my all time favorite amp. The gain is fantastic and it has my favorite clean tone.
@@sid35gb oh yes I'm very familiar, that's why I don't see it as a compromise. Orange has been killing it in the solid state game.
Not by any means my favorite amp, but definitely was not expecting it to sound so great 👍🏽
I love the Orange Rockerverb, but this is an old Mark I. The New Mark III has an amazing dedicated clean channel. :)
great info as usual D Man. with the in your face Orange..lol..Just bought a Fender Squier Affinity..Reall y surprised with it..Love it..Will mod it some later but right out of the box with a change of strings and set up it is a player....
I have the Orange Rockaverb 3 and I have to say ... it is so amazing that even my brother likes it.
I love your channel and observations buddy, but “Goat dude with a towel’? Pretty sure that’s Pan, with a pan flute…
But of course maybe you were being fictitious- if so my bad.
Indeed!
Man the strat you played is beautiful!!
Can’t go wrong with orange!!
Man, the clarity of gain in that SLIDE change at 3:43-:44 was OUTTA SIGHT!
K...looking at Orange now.
Rocckerverb amp rules. Great review.
I love my Orange. My other amps get exchanged over the years, but the Orange ain't going anywhere. Classic distortion and you don't need a TS :)
I had never thought I would like the Fender Bassbreaker 30r, being somebody who doesn't use a lot of gain, but now I'm fortunate enough to own this amp and I'm still surprised by its versatility to this day
When I first saw the thumbnail I thought for sure it was gonna be the new Super Crush 100.
Jeepers! How hard is it to slap labels on the knobs? I get it, but I'd just label them myself.
Orange amps have an amazing sounding clean channel especially when you add in some reverb and a little bit of delay🤤🤤 it’s a unique sound you will lust after
Chuck Berry played Orange Amps. That’s so last century…
@@daniellarson3068 they literally do now because people like you kept complaining about it
and in all fairness this is the MK 1 rockerverb and the MK 3 iteration has a much nicer clean tone than anything that precedes it.
Orange tube amplifiers are classic ! I love mine and they also come in black the Jim Root series is custom black !
I own 2 orange amps the crush pro 120 combo and the crush 60 pro combo and I love them both Orange makes great solid state and tube amps!
I’m glad I’m not the only mad person who owns both those amps. I’ve got an OR15 and a micro dark as well
@@sid35gb Awsome! I love my orange amps and I am planning on getting the micro dark as well. you can't go wrong with an orange amp!
I had a RVerb 50 and traded it for a Dual Dark. Orange makes great amps!
Deal...
Orange, was initially put off but awesome amps, great quality and sound
Sounds incredible, and very versatile. Just looked up the price...OUCH!
When I’m playing I want everything as simple as possible so I don’t have to think too much…
Perfectly said..when i play i want to concentrate on playing..not deciphering a damn puzzle
H&K TM36 Special Edition is one that surprised me. Tone controls are unique in that they perform best with subtle movements away from 12 o'clock. Great pedal platform or dirty to distortion tone machine on its own. Speaker soak and DI built in along with many features including midi capable control.
The horned dude wiping his hands with a towel is actually a satyr (probably Marsyas) with a multiple-piped flute :) Greek Mythology...
That goat guy is pan with a flute
My first Orange was the First Tiny Terror Still have it. I bought the Rocker 15 Terror and it does everything. FX Loop, Bedroom Switch 1 watt and .5 Watts. Both take pedals really
well. Like you said in the end it does that one thing really well. They have to compete with
DrZ Zwreck, Marshall JCM 2204, Engl FireBall 25. They are used all the time. Oh and one
more thing. Another great vid.
