I loved your approach to get a new power supply rather the old one which definitely takes tedious amount of time. Still learn a lot of from this video despite the fact that repair time was very less. But still thank you. 😊

Hello, I have great news, I found the problem with my Atari Pinball board and now it is working great. It turned out to be chip C6 (model 9301PC), which is part of the address decoding circuit. I would like to thank you for helping me and for answering my other comments. One funny thing is that, a long time ago, I tried to fix an OG Xbox like this with a bad power supply. It would whine when it was plugged in and not show any signs of life. I didn't see any bulging caps or burned parts so I ended giving up on it. I'm sure glad I didn't give up on fixing my Atari pinball board. Thanks for giving me the motivation to keep trying by telling me the different things I should check next.

I've seen quite a few 9301s go bad on the Atari pcb, I'm glad to hear that you were able to fix yours.

There are so many interesting things you can do with this Xbox today. I would recommend replacing that wheezing hard drive. I'm guessing the clock capacitor was replaced? Not sure if thermal paste was replaced under the heatsinks. You could also add an HDMI mod as well. Lots of additional video content with all of that :).

I have worked on a lot of switch mode supplies; they were famous for cascade failure's, "usually 6 components or more" and often required a schematic to resolve several issues.

Hi Arti. Great to see you back. Completely agree with you on this one - component level repair of the PSU would be a fool's errand. Module level replacement is a much more sensible solution. The cost in term of time and stress would just not be worth it. In fact, when you identified the burned section of the board I immediately said to the screen "Go to Ebay and get a replacement"! So not much of interest here but you have a working machine and can quickly move on to a more fun project 👍

Nice to see you again! - My suggestion is get an external replacement. Or an unsure Ebay find is always possible. Great repairs as usual.

Nice but I think I would have taken that Zenner off and tested it before spending the money but at least its not in a landfill !...cheers.

I had no way of telling what the reverse breakdown voltage was supposed to be, since there were no markings anywhere.

The cooling fan seems to be a bit noisy? I clean fans and heatsinks in a solution of warm water, dishwashing soap, and a small amount of straight ammonia liquid. Scrubbing isn't mandatory; only if grime is stubborn. Otherwise, it just falls off in about 20 min. Rinsed, then blow dried - then the fan motor is disassembled and re-lubricated. 9 out of 10 times, this is the cure.
Fans get noisy easily because they get out of balance with even small amounts of buildup.
Perhaps you will go thru the failed supply and turn it into a spare?

That's actually normal noise for an OG Xbox

Nice repair that most anybody can replicate after seeing your video. For context, what is an original bud modded Xbox worth. I have no idea if it's $50 or $1000 but presumably more than $28?

A modded console with a 120 Gig drive is worth about $120, more to someone who was lots of games on their HD.
