    Hey Slot...So I used to mod pretty big back in the day, can find me all over Xbox-scene, etc etc. Modded controllers with extra buttons, chips, tsop, softmods, you name it. I have a Halo Edition xbox with Executer3 chip, with the front panel, big hard drive loaded. Like 10 years ago, my kid let a Popsicle melt on it, and it wouldn't start up after that. It sat for almost 11 years and I broke it out last week. I had another xbox with the same board (1.4) so i swapped chip over and it worked fine. But my HDD was locked to the broken one (dual bios start for xbox live).
    Just used your video to make the cable and pull the eeprom off the old board and flash to the new board and booted up flawlessly with all my old games. So thank you for that!

    Nice guide. great to see someone still using the old hardware hack methods. We invented this way to dig about in the xbox eeprom in 2004 over on llamma's site.. so we could unlock the drives, or to lock replacements.. and the plans still exist on afterdawn.. keep on hacking :D
    regards

    To save parts and money you could use a full serial cable with both female ends just cut one end off and use a multi meter or a light to find the pins for each wire and that should work to.

    I made my own today following this tutorial. Took me a little over an hour because I didn't have an adequate soldering iron. It felt like it was bought from a toy shop :( ... A good soldering iron is half the job. I used to solder alot at my old job, but those were high-end soldering irons and could have made this job a lot easier.

      so now the re and yellow are going to a double header but i am stuck at the black wire that was in the core with white but we are putting by the sounds of it another black wire that gose to a alligatoer clip and double header to one prong ??????

    • @Butistabomb
      @Butistabomb 9 років тому

      Slot1Gamer Thank you. Just to clarify:
      1. Make a Eeprom reader
      2. Get the unlock code for the HDD in the 1.6 (because it has valuable stuff on it..)
      3. Soft mod and TSOP the 1.1
      4. Plug on the 1.6 HDD and enjoy?

    • @Slot1Gamer
      @Slot1Gamer  9 років тому +2

      Butistabomb
      You could do this:
      1:Make EEPROM reader
      2: Dump 1.6 AND 1.1 EEPROM's (make a backup of both too!)
      3: Use Live Tool to copy the HDD Key from the 1.6 EEPROM file to the 1.1 EEPROM file
      4: Save the new 1.1 EEPROM (with 1.6 key) as a new file
      5: Flash new modified EEPROM to 1.1 Xbox :D
      It should work but if it doesn't just reflash the 1.1 backup to the 1.1 mobo and use the 1.6 hdd key to unlock the disk using a PC and XBHDM, then copy the content off using Xplorer360.
      Hope that helps

      Yes, you can assemble the components on a breadboard, but you might find it hard to get the leads on the RS232 cable into the breadboard holes, particularly if they're stranded.I've done about 5 Xboxs from a circuit on a breadboard assembled about 5 years ago, but might finally assemble the parts like the video, or onto a stripboard.

    got a Error 7 xbox recently, i would like to fix it. from my understanding this cable can work for me to get eeprom, then take such dump and use a program like xbhdm to make new drive for it.. is it possible to use this same cable to flash custom bios with out having to solder the unlock points on mother board , and forgo softmodding ?

    • @oemcomputersarecrap3008
      @oemcomputersarecrap3008 6 років тому

      hello. the error 7 you seem to be getting is related to the ide cable made sure everything is seated and plugged in properly. No it is impossible to use the same cable to flash a custom bios. To do a tsop mod you need to first have a softmodded original xbox then solder the unlock points which disables the write protection then you can boot to a hexen disk to flash a bios. search up a tutorial for more details. When soldering it is also important not to use cheap plugin solder irons as they don't have temperature control which is pretty important if you want to do a proper job. It is very easy to do a tsop mod. But if your original xbox harddrive is dead then you need your hdd key,obtainable though using a xbox eeprom reader as shown in the video,then build a new hard drive with xboxhdm you will need the xbox partitions though. use google to find them.

    Can you tell me could you do this if you have an old serial cable already can you cut the male end off and solder the resisters and diode on the other end of the cable? can you give me the resister and diode names again so I can google them to try and find best price.
    I purchased a cable off ebay a guy from UK was selling them, but its been 6 weeks and still dont have it, so I guess Ill try and make one...

      Slot1Gamer Im in the US, Baltimore Maryland 21201 zip code. the one on ebay would have cost like 12.25 UK so I guess about 18 or so USD...or can you post the exact items needed to make one, i was looking on ebay and noticed the resisters have different OHM and Watts wasn't sure what one to get..

      4.7k Ohm Carbon Film Resistors - 1/4 Watt - 5% - 4K7 - would those work? and 1N4733 5.1V Zener Diode ? thanks..

      punishrs Hello, the wattage is just how much current they can handle. 1/4W is fine (what I used).
      OHM is the resistance value, 3.9k ohm is what I used in this tutorial. That 1N4733 diode is the correct one.
      Hope that helps

      punishrs Also the resistors I used where 3K9ohm 1/2 Watt 1% Metal Film Resistors
      The wattage isn't very important 1/4w is fine..
