    I can imagine how challenging this series is, but I have to say that it's one of my favorite on UA-cam. Giving every country somewhat equal weight really allows me to see the world in a new perspective. It's amazing how many interesting things are going on in this country that never make the American news.
    Thanks JJ!

      For sure. It's especially helpful to this liberal struggling through the Trump years. As bad as he might be I'm so thankful that we have such robust democratic institutions that can keep him and others in check. We love to bitch about gridlock but I'm thankful our checks and balances keep us from going totally off the rails.
      Reminds me of listening to Jonah Goldberg talk about his new book. Trying to imagine a better country is important but we also need to take time to appreciate how much worse things could be if our forefathers had made different choices and/or been dealt different circumstances.

    As a Chilean, you pretty much nailed what's been happening here, I for one I'm sick of this back and forth between Bachelet and Piñera, it had never happened in the history of the country and I feel it makes us seem like a banana republic. At least Bachelet said she won't run for another run for another term, so next time we'll finally have a different person in office.

      Atleast you are not Italy. Here we hold the record of 66 legislation in 72 years. So the average legislation only lasts a little more than 1 year.
      This was fine when the members of the various political parties all had very similar ideas and objectives and most of the time all legislations followed a similar plan, but now its a mess since it's a constant back and forth between different ideologies and ideas of how to run a nation. In 10 years we went from having liberals into power to having socialist democrats into power to having a shit load of technical legislations to go back to social democrats and now have a strange mix of ideologies with an extreme-right wing party into power together with a party without a clear ideology which seems to be leaning towards the left.

    Hey, JJ, I've got a pronunciation tip (I wish I could have thought of something silly like you did for the flags, but alas, I could not). The ñ, like in the Chilean president's name, is pronounced like the n in annual, or Enya. So a name like Muñoz would be pronounced like 'moon-yos', if you ever come across the ñ again. Hope this helps!

    • @rparl
      @rparl 6 років тому

      And it originated when writing material was scarse. It represents a double "n". At one time other letters had that as well; only the ñ remains, although the "ll" also has a separate phonem. Years ago, I would read a comic book series Lloyd Llewellen, probably named to have all those double Ls.

      As an american i can say that when everybody here realizes what is actually going to happen in 2026 theyre going to be pretty upset. 2026 is america's 250th birthday and there are alot of people in the heartland and the rocky mountain region who are going to think its "disrespectful" that a forgien game is being played on american soil and the final is most likely going to be played around the 4th of july. There is also the issue of stadium building, renovation and a bunch of people getting drunk at all hours of the day and night for 6 weeks straight. We tried getting the winter olympics here in 1976 for the bicentennial but the people of denver colorado rejected it in a refrendum. The only reason why the 1994 world cup came here is because we played them in football stadiums that didnt need renovations and bypassed the need for refrendums.

    • @RandomStuffTutorials
      @RandomStuffTutorials 6 років тому +1

      As a foreigner, we guys are pretty pissed off that you guys got the bid (no offense) because we like calling it football and in the 2026 world cup, it will be referred to as 'soccer'. You might very well know that the USA is not exactly well-known for respecting football (our kind).

    As a Croatian I'd say that you probably should have spoken about our prime minister Andrej Plenković since kolinda as a president holds no real power and is more of a figurehead like the Queen in the UK but elected ( which now that i think about it is a pretty weird sistem ). Our prime minister is also a conservative who managed to form a goverment after the last one held a snap election (which was becouse of a deadlock thanks to a Third party that couldn't make up it's mind ). He is the most Popular politician in the country despite constantly low approval ratings ( last time I saw it was like 35%-ish) becouse of the opposition's ineptitude. We got into a scandal when our biggest company got into big trouble and the government took over ( despite it being unconstitutional ) later the CEO fled the country and we allowed it back into the market. It's better now but it hurt our already weak economy

      JJ I think felt that he has to describe the country called Ivory Coast, as it has always been called in English since the days of the French Empire, 'Cote d'Ivoire'. The country's ruler has for some reason decreed that the English version of the name is not to be used, even though it is a recognised geographical name in English. Some pressure from President Macron and the 'Francophonie' secretariat, perhaps. Perhaps the US State Department will ignore this and continue to use the English-language name. Germany does not tell the English-speaking world that they must from now on call the country 'Deutschland'......
