- Anti-Mormon Cult, Apologia Studios, also known as the "Durbanite Cult" led by Jeff Durbin, is constantly harassing, and bragging about harassing, members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latte-Day Saints, who, amongst other things, are precipitously going to hell, according to his ostensibly Calvinist religious views. But where did he get these views? He claims to be quoting the "bible" whenever he harasses members of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, but he is never holding up a Bible when he does. Instead, he is holding up this little green pamphlet, that he refuses to cite, and never mentions. Well.... through some exhaustive research, and some collaboration with the CIA, we have found this little green apologia studios Durbanite Anti-Mormon Cult Bible.... we have located this tantalizing tome! And... we are gonna debunk it, in the funnest, happiest, most humurous way possible. Jeez.... we love our jobs.

I remember when and how I got my copy in early 1980s I reacted exactly same with my companion read whole thing but was so silly and being a writer I spotted spoil much yellow journalism and the old technique of not finishing the paragraph or sentences which mislead people and so forth the book was good in misleading but to a member of the Church Of Jesus Christ you can spot all the false stuff they say abt the Church in it.

For anyone wondering, the book is called Where Does It Say That? and if you type it exactly like that into a google search, it will be the very first result, published by the Institute for Religious Research. I'd also highly, highly recommend the Church History Matters podcast - their most recent series is all about the vital mental moves that intelligent people make when encountering new information that seems to contradict or challenge what they believe. I'd check that out first, but yeah, the book is super easy to find when you know what it's called.

The point of Satan’s Preacher was to distill in endowed members a need to stand up for the truth and contend against false doctrine. Brigham Young wrote that part with a bit of levity, showing that satire was part of the endowment. And it taught us to have a fighting spirit and not just “be nice”.

Jeff Durbin is the Korihor of our time. I love when he pulls out the King Follet dicourse and states that this is the most famous quote of Joseph Smith....Honestly, I've never even heard of this until I heard it from Jeff and I believe most members havent heard of it either. I could be wrong.
Shawn McCraney, and Jeff Durbin, actually brought me into the Restoration.
Jeff says it's the most quoted sermon by LDS authorities at GC, not his most famous quote. And yes, most Mormons have never heard of it because the LDS church hides it from easy viewing.
The King Follet address is not considered canon for a few reasons. It was recorded by different witnesses in different notation styles. So, it can’t be guaranteed what Joseph said was verbatim. It was also known that Joseph had enemies within the church as the address was given not long before his assassination.
I’ve read it. Nothing in it is blasphemous in my opinion. It’s actually interesting because he says some things that align with Eastern concepts. Like, one that stuck with me is that our spirits are as old as God’s spirit. That we had always existed, we weren’t created. I’m not sure of the implications of that but that aligns with the idea of I am that I am.

Have you seen the awesome "Day of Defence" book? Printed in the 70's I think, I studied it on my mission in California San Diego in '83-84, which was also the time when the "God Makers" frenzy was going through all the evangelical and baptists churches at the time. It was a golden age of missionary work; on tabulating my weekly mission reports to the mission office I taught no less than 40 discussions a week and saw over 40 people read the book of Mormon and accept the Gospel during my mission tenure. On my mission I had a nice catholic family invite us in and pull out a book called “questions to ask Mormons”. I was so excited I asked to see the book and basically giggled over it like a crazy person the next ten minutes as I debunked or answered a bunch of the questions. You guys totally are reminding me of that experience. I kinda get a kick out of these things. How scary are we that they need to arm people with entire books about us when we don’t care one bit about what they believe or teach. 😂

It is likely that the source for this document is the Tanner's (Gerald and Sandra) Mormonism: Shadow or Reality?, which was published in 1963 with subsequent editions. The topical list in front of this Green book overlaps with many chapters of Tanner's book. In addition, the Tanners used the exact same pagination, e.g. 7-4 is chapter 7 page 4. A lot of their book was mimeographed and they had reprinted pages out of Journal of Discourses. Also, I think the Tanners did a lot of manual marking and underlying of specific quotes just like you described and showed. Some of the Green book pages that Cardin showed on camera reminded me of stuff that the Tanners did. So this could be excerpts from the Tanners.

When people try to make assertions about anything, I point out the errors of using something based on someone saying what someone else said. I do this a lot on Quora. It rarely takes long before I can point to it happening in real-time. Someone might say, "I prefer my chocolate rich in Cacao, that is why I favor Dark Chocolate. In moments, someone is saying that the person said they hate milk chocolate. Then another person is raging on the first person for saying that they hate milk chocolate. Then, another is saying that it is a Fact, that the first person proved that Africans prefer Dark Chocolate ... and hate Columbians. What the? Point me to the sources. And they can't, the just repeat their assertions as if it becomes valid by repeating it more. Same thing is going on here with those using the green book. Just keep saying it and relying on people to not actually research and validate.

I remember on my mission getting debunking material and the names they garnered like "The J-Dub 2 step" which was a bunch of references of claims vs truths with citations and explanations. If the missionaries got ahold of this, I'm sure there'd be such a reference sheet for them soon after.

I’ve been preparing for a mission, one of the things I wanted to do in order to prepare was to find a source that has all the arguments used against us. How would I be able to get one of these? I checked online and I couldn’t find anything. It would be pretty useful to prep with.
My advice... run as fast as you can. Don't waste your time and money in a false church led by men that are wrong at least 50% of the time.

@@DaremoDaremo from personal experience I can tell you it's devastating learning that the church is false. Money is not the only factor (or the most important) of my advice but you can do much better in the world (either by helping others or using that money and time on your own family).
That sectarian thinking that there is only one true church keeps you from using critical thinking skills to easily see all the flaws and false doctrine the church has been deceiving us with. If you read into my comment that I'm greedy and only think about money or I want to sin then I'm sorry that you see through that glass. Not all that leave think that way, some of us feel betrayed because we were true believers with strong testimonies. Learning that our entire foundation was a lie is something that I don't wish on anyone, but it's a personal decision to investigate the truth claims of this church.

My favorite little tidbit I recently came across is that Calvin has some sermons that seem to preach theosis as the ultimate end of Christian justification (though there are scholars out there who go to lengths to say that no, he wasn’t actually lining up with the Eastern catholic/orthodox (and LDS) doctrine of theosis/divinization, but merely justification through grace and nothing more).
Soooooo, following Apologia Studio’s logic, if Calvin was out there preaching that humans can become as God is, then obviously all of his other teachings must also be false, and Mr. Durban should just go ahead and denounce all of Presbyterianism and other TULIP traditions, even though presbyterians and the majority of the western Christian world neither teach nor believe that doctrine to be true today.

Total depravity of man (horrible, sinful creatures, who can’t ever be free of that original sin, unless called by God to be covered by Christ’s atonement)
Unconditional election (God chooses who is saved/predestination/you have no choice in the matter)
Limited atonement (only those God chooses are covered by the atonement)
Irresistable grace (if you’ve been chosen, you will be powerless to resist His grace/void of will to choose, since He chose you)
Perseverance of the saints (if you’ve been called, you can’t lose your salvation, no matter what)
There may be differences of interpretations between different denominations, and I’m doing the broadest of paraphrasing, but that’s the gist of it.

I had this book on my mission in Louisville. The cover wasn’t green at the time but it’s the same book. Kentucky Louisville Mission 86-88. It had a quote in it that referenced “Mormon Doctrine” with a specific page number about black people being fence sitters in the War in Heaven. Fake reference.

I just for the first time read an entire volume of the BY in the JD (Volume 11 all BY talks, the man almost never misses 😂!). Man I miss those days where we spoke bluntly and directly and weren’t the door-mats like we’re being trained to be by current leadership (and I love them all lol). I’m excited to read them all, I’m so bored right now with most things in the church, I love the bombastic nature of the early saints.
I believe it's time for change, but in the good way. I'm bored off my @$$ listening to the same ol speeches, same ol doctrine, over and over........ yeah we get it. When I give a talk, I don't follow or read a script, it's straight from the heart and how I feel and what I think....... period. And some Don't like it but they have the problem, not me. We need those days back..... they are too soft.

It’s why I love listening to old Benson, Hinckley, Packer, old Holland, old Maxwell, all Oaks, Bednar talks because they don’t mince words. When the church divides (and I hope it does) I’ll follow the apostles and prophets who speak directly and with boldness, not the ones who speak too softly out of fear of offending the weak little doctrine of the devil loving wokeness poisoned men and women in the church.

"Whether Adam is the personage that we should consider our heavenly Father, or not, is considerable of a mystery to a good many. I do not care for one moment how that is; it is no matter whether we are to consider Him our God, or whether His Father, or His Grandfather, for in either case we are of one species-of one family-and Jesus Christ is also of our species."
I don't care if Adam was our spiritual father or not, the principles are all the same.

In the late 80s early 90s there were many evangelicals when I was in Pensacola FL that would bring up journal of discourses as a gotcha to the young missionaries. Now most of them didn’t know how to handle the objections because most of them haven’t read history of the church and/or journal of discourses. It was a jerk move on those evangelicals part.
How is it a "jerk move" to point out actual teachings of early church leaders? Many of those general authorities knew Joseph smith personally, I think it would be important to know what they said to see how the Doctrine has been changed over the years.

@@latterdaysaint adam god doctrine was taught at the veil. Was that not doctrine at some point? How about the lectures on faith that state God is a spirit? Taken out of the D&C without common consent by the general authorities. JOD talks about JS visions that are very different from JS History. You may want to dismiss those writings because they are not "authenticated" and are inconvenient today but it doesn't change the fact that early church leaders that actually knew Joseph Smith had a very different understanding of the gospel than we do today.
Journal of Discourses is not doctrinal, due to the many many edits made by the main transcriber Grotge D Watt's inaccuracy and editing of talks between the transcription and publication of the Journals.
Of you are truly interested (and honest -which I doubt from your previous comments) in how the Journals came about and why some of the I formation in them can't be trusted I suggest you look into the work done by Church History Library historian LaJean Carruth on the J.o.d and Pittman shorthand.

I never understood why they take issue with multiple first vision accounts. JS provided different details for different audiences. Do evangelicals take similar issue with differing accounts of the gospels in the New Testament? Depending on who’s writing, certain details are included or omitted. That doesn’t make them any less true.

On the contradictions in witness statements both in the Bible and church history -contradictions are actually usually proof that people are telling the truth. If witnesses have rehearsed a lie there will be little to know contradictions. But that fact that we as individuals all experience things uniquely means we will never report the same event in the exact same way.

George Watts is the person responsible for the Salt Lake Tribune. George Watts was not only the editor of the Journal of Discourses, but the copyright owner/publisher. Watts kept all the profits from the sale of the JOD, and was later excommunicated.
It was originally printed by Lion Press in England. It was not published by Deseret Press until the 1950s at which time it had past into the public domain.

We don’t really know what BY was saying on these topics and if it’s accurately recorded, but the church has disavowed the teachings of Adam god and blood atonement. No big deal. BY can make mistakes and still hold keys and be a prophet.

Cardon, I want a copy? How much? Plus, Jeff Durbin loves to take things out of context in the Bible but the book of Mormon puts into context the anti movement and the message of the Bible. For instance, how many of us use 2 nephi chapter 29 when debating Jeff Durbin?

I would like to suggest that you start with pages 1-5, (and continue with the rest of the book in sections.) post them as a PDF file being used for commentary that we could print and follow along as you disseminate the contents. Eventually we would all have their collection of the churches copywrite material and information that we can have and use with understanding how we can be deceived. It would not break any copywrite as they already broke copywrite using copies within the pages of this "Green Bible" (love the name you gave it. JW.) This would be "educational and demonstrate," validating the use of said material for instruction using examples from their published material. You can't destroy a building if the iron wrecking ball has been turned into a puff of cotton!
